I bought my 15inch core i7 Macbook pro about 8 months ago from US... in the last 20-25 days a problem showed up... The screen of my laptop just goes black but the keyboard light stays on..after i turn it off pressing the power button there is also a small "Click" Sound.. when i start again there is this message that my Mac has been shut down unexpectedly... and there is this huge list of threads but one of the key words that catch my eyes are.. Macbook pro shutdown issue when I push the power button it immediately goes into sleep mode

    Hello Marrio22,
Thank you for the question.  With OS X Mavericks, the power button has new functionality:
OS X Mavericks updates the power button behavior on Mac computers.
Using the Power Button to Sleep & Wake
Tap the power button in Mavericks to put your Mac to sleep or to wake it up:
Tap the power button once to put your Mac to sleep.
Tap the power button again to wake your Mac.
Press the power button for less than a half a second to sleep or wake your Mac. This duration is similar to pressing the Space bar or Return key to wake your Mac. The power button works this way across all Macs using OS X Mavericks, including both notebook and desktop computers.
    Accessing the Shut Down Dialog
Press and hold the power button for 1.5 seconds, to bring up additional options:
Forcing the Mac to Turn Off
Hold down the power button for 5 seconds to force the computer to turn off. Important: You may lose unsaved documents if you force the computer to turn off this way. Use this method of turning off your Mac only if it has become unresponsive for an extended period of time. Normally you should shut down the computer by selecting Shut Down from the Apple menu, or from the shut down dialog pictured above.

    Hello,
I have a problem with my MacBook Pro because it shutdowns and restarts unexpectedly?. Also, suddenly it goes frozen and a beep starts, Do you know what mught be occurring?.  Thanks.

    Hello Eduardo
It sounds like an issue with the RAM on your MacBook Pro. The idea is to see if you can reseat the RAM and if you cannot, then you would need to talk to an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for additional support.

  • Macbook Pro shutdown on wake from sleep

    Hi there,
I recently upgraded my Macbook Pro (4,1) to Lion, and it worked fine for a couple of weeks but it has now started shutting down (straight to black screen) every time I wake it from sleep, whether sleeping closed or open.
I have tried an SMC reset and a PRAM reset and it doesn't help. I have wiped my disk and reinstalled Lion fresh, and still have the same problem. Interestingly, with the fresh install I have to enter my password every time I wake the computer, and it shuts down once I've put my password in.
I guess the problem might stop if I downgrade to Snow Leopard again but I want to make it work. Well out of warranty so I don't know if they'll even look at it at the Apple Store.
    Thanks in advance.

  • 17" 2009 mid macbook pro shutdown after upgrade to OSX10.9

    Hi,
I have a 17" mid 2009 MacBook Pro (MacBook Pro 5,2). I was running with Snow Leopard OSX10.6 with no problem. However, since Adobe and many software require later version OSX. I upgrade to OSX10.9 last week. Once I finish upgrade. I can't run my macbook with the higher performance setting (Nvidia 9600 graphic card) under battery power. It will shutdown immdeatly. Sent the machine to Apple Store. Same issue happen under OSX10.7 and 10.8. They ask me to replace the logic board. However, they can't not answer why this issue wasn't happening in OSX10.6.
I'm wondering if anyone else have the same issue?
Is this really a hardware fail?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello,
I have been working on solving a power issue on the same MacBook Pro model (mid-2009 17", 5,2).
The machine would not start when running from the battery, and would require 2 or 3 attemps before properly booting when running from AC power.
Since it is not my personal machine, the first thing we did was put the original HDD in an external USB case for its original owner.  After that, I installed a brand new copy of OS X 10.9.1 on a spare HDD I had lying around.  The original owner also claims that the machine would not boot anymore even while running on AC power, although I have not entirely been able to reproduce that issue (as stated, after 2-3 attemps the machine will boot and run for hours).
After a few tests (SMC reset, memory modules replacement, etc), I seem to have been able to make the machin crash systematically if I both :
    1. Run from battery and
    2. Use the (discrete) GeForce 9600 instead of the (integrated) GeForce 9400.
So it's basically the same problem as the one you're having !
Also OS X reports the battery as having about 670 power cycle on its belt, and as requiring service.
I am now wondering if there is an issue with some capacitance/condensator not properly soldered anymore, and not able to whitstand larger power requirement from the 9600 and/or from the boot process, while running from the battery.  I'm seriously considering a reflowing of the logics board solder, but it's quite a delicate process.  Also the report of simialr/identical issues on support forums, where customers have replaced either their battery or logics board but have seen no improvement, makes me dubious about this.  There's a very small PCB that basically handles the MagSafe power connector, and I'm wondering if a defect there might be the root cause fo these issues, so maybe I'll have a close look at this one before trying anything else.
Please, do keep me informed though this channle of you find anything worthwhile.
    Regards,
    Jeroem B.

  • 2012 Macbook pro restarts unexpectedly

My 2012 Macbook Pro with Retina restarts unexpectedly. It might go a day or two without doing it, but then it might continually restart 5 times in an hour.  My computer screen will suddenly go black. The computer sounds like it's still running, but it wouldn't respond.  I have to hold the power button down till the computer totally shuts down, then it takes awhile to get it turn back on and it always says "your computer restarted because it has encounter a problem" or something to that effect.  and then the screen usually turns black again and i have to repeat the restart process until I can log back on.  Then I get the error report message copied below.  I would take it to an Apple store, but the closest one is 4 hours away and I don't get to the city very much.  Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

MacBook Pro Repair Extension Program for Video Issues

  • Just downloaded new IOS 8.2 on MacBook Pro shutdown ready to restart & it won't reboot up HELP PLEASE...???

Hi Ive just downloaded the new IOS 8.2 on my MacBook Pro, it tells you to shutdown now, to finish installing - which Ive done. Went to boot it up again and all it dose is show me the apple sign and lots of black letters numbers and the odd word something about the 64bit is missing - Im doing my Criminology Honours Degree & doing a PowerPoint lecture - or should I say was!!!! And now my macbook won't turn on.... HELP PLEASE??????

use a torx screwdriver and open the back casing, from there you can proceed to get your hard drive out. then you can retrieve the data using a universal hard drive to usb adapter (you can find them cheap on amazon).
and if you are desperate to get it to turn on you can use the power on pads: from there we can see what is going on. (this is NOT a technique for every day use)

  • MacBook Pro restarts unexpectedly after removing mini displayport-DVI adapter

    Hi all,
I did a clean install of Mavericks a little while back. Since then I have been noticing an issue with my Mid-2009 17" MacBook auto-restarting, and have reduced it when I remove my mini displayport-DVI adapter.
I usually work with my macbook closed, connected to a Dell 24" external monitor connected via DVI. When removing the adapter the macbook quite often goes to the grey screen telling me that the machine must force restart. It is becoming really frustrating.
Anyone know about this issue or found a workaround?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ben

    Hi emeidos,
If you are having intermittent forced restarts with yoru MacBook Pro, you may find the following article helpful:

  • MacBook Pro Shutdowns

I get random shutdowns on the MB Pro (March model). Can't reliably relate it to any activity. I see that Apple has posted a 'fix' for the MB but not the Pro. Am I the only person to have this problem on the Pro? Any resolution but to retrun the book to Apple and wait several weeks?

I would call Apple then. I was hoping for you that it might be a battery issue. Now it seems to be a power supply issue.

  • MacBook Pro shutdown time

Recently I've noticed the shutdown time has increased from "very quick" (under 5 seconds) to "slower" (around 30 seconds). How can I return to "very quick"?

Close all windows, quit all apps. Lion's default behavior is to restore the desktop upon return, hence the more stuff on it, the longer it will take to store the current state.

  • My MacBook Pro shutdown after it said my USB was draining to much power and now won't turn on please help

Hi my MacBook will not turn on after it said my USB was draining to much power, and it shut down and now won't turn back on please help

USB power management is part of the SMC (system management controller).  Try to reset SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Then get a self-powered USB external hub.  It takes power from a wall socket and saves the MBP power system.  Starting at $20 at BestBuy and similar stores.

  • Pressure on bottom cover makes Macbook Pro shutdown

Have a problem I have never had before. I have a 17" 2010 MBP, never had a problem like this with any of my 4 former laptops.
Very slight pressure on the middle of the bottom where the ram compartment is, makes the computer freeze and I have to shutdown hard. After that it makes the "3 beeps at startup" to indicate bad ram.
Well, I tested the ram and it's fine, so I know that it's the pressure touching something it's not supposed to. The pins that hold the cover from touching the logic board etc. doesn't seem to do the job very well.
I have never seen this problem before, is there a fix, or do I have to change the bottom cover?
Right now I can't move my MBP when it's turned on, that will in 99 % of the cases apply just a bit amount of pressure to the bottom case, enough to make it freeze and shutdwon.
Not very portable right now ;-<

It sounds like either a connector is loose, something is shorting when you put pressure there, or maybe a bad solder connection. You should take it in to the Genius Bar for a free eval. If you're under Applecare the repair is free too.

  • Why won't my 2011 13" macbook pro shutdown/restart properly?

I have only used half of the HDD's capacity. I have had this computer for a year and over the last few months I noticed it "hangs" a lot more. Applications especially itunes and Word often require "force quit" and it hangs on a grey screen when I attempt to shut it down or restart it. I have also noticed the battery life is MUCH shorter even after recalibrating the battery. I have 4 GB's of RAM, as well. I have run virus scanners and my computer always has a clean bill of health. Last week, I had mail hanging in my "sent box" for several days before it finally sent.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    -Danny

Mysteriously, the problem went away after a few hours.

  • IPhoto causes my macbook to shutdown unexpectedly. How do I fix this problem?

When I open iPhoto, it may or may not fully open up and then my computer just shuts down. This only happens with iPhoto. I am stumped. I have SO many pictures saved and this makes me nervous. It has been happening for a couple months now...Help!

If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), try resetting
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds.
How's that dude? Copied from this website.
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
Those are Apple's words up there dude. Check it out man ...
It might not work, but it is recommended in the Apple troubleshooting article ... Dude!
And don't call me dude - please. Have some manners and some respect.
