Hi everybody,
I am working on a c++ program that fail at runtime with the following error:
malloc: * error for object .....: pointer being freed was not allocated * set a breakpoint in mallocerrorbreak to debug
the program I a m working on has the particularity to load dinamically many dynamic libraries.
this error happen on the dlopen(...) of one of them.
I have activated many env variable to have more information (DYLDPRINT*)
But I still dont have the information. I know which library is causing the trouble but I dont know why. especially I think the order the librarie are loaded are in cause because if I load only the library in a simple program, no problem.
My question is: what kind of tools or tips can I have to debug this kind of error runtime?? I understand that I am making a free on something not allocated, but how can I know the name of the object?

yes i tried... I put a symbolic breakpoint and put mallocerrorbreak. after run, it break at the right place, but of course this is only sources in asm that doesnt help me.
My program and libraries are built in debug. but the error happen in function dlopen and malloc that are system library, so not build in debug... so breaking in mallocerrorbreak not help me a lot to understand what is wrong durin the dlopen and why I get this error...

Launch the Console application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search, and look under "User Diagnostic Reports" for crash logs related to "login." Select the most recent one and post the contents -- the text, please, not a screenshot.

Crashing on save "pointer being freed was not allocated"

Since installing Snow Leopard, I have been having problems with all applications when saving, opening or browsing for files. Photoshop crashes 90% of the time when I save for web, Firefox crashes when I browse for a file to upload via a dialog box, etc.
When I open Photoshop, I get a bunch of these messages in console:

I've tried reinstalling Snow Leopard twice, including a completely fresh install, and still get the same issue.

Often it happens when I try to open or save file, i.e. after pressing the button in some File Dialog.
PRAM/SMC reset, repair disk permissions and repair disk don't help.
Hardware test said that all is well.
now i rolled back to Leopard 10.5.8 - there are no problems at all.

Photoshop crashing left and right ("pointer being freed was not allocated")

I see a lot of posts about crashes on here but not a lot of useful replies. I'm hoping my try will yield something different.
I've been using PS for well over a decade and for the past few weeks suddenly Photoshop CS6 Extended is crashing at the drop of a hat. There isn't a single trigger. Sometimes it's opening a PSD. Most of the time it's when trying to save a PSD. Occasionally it's when trying to "Replace Contents" on a layer. Here and there it's when moving content on a layer. The one consistent thing is there is always a trigger. It's not just crashing when nothing is going on.
I have tried:
deleting "Adobe Photoshop CS6 Prefs.psp"
creating a new user (still crashes under them)
fixing disk permissions
verifying the memory is "OK"
I have not tried:
Reinstalling PS CS6 Extended
A clean reinstall of OSX
Gutting a chicken and reading the entrails

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

"Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found" while trying to access another PC running Windows 7 Ultimate I searched and read dozens of similiar posts to try to resolve this issue with no success.
The situation is, I have a router in home with 4 PC's connected. My central PC is running Windows 7 Ultimate. The others are Windows 7 Ultimate again, and 2 running XP Pro. No special Firewalls, just have Windows Firewall enabled on all PC's, and am running KasperskyInternetSecurity2010 on all. (Have disabled these on all PC's and tried to view/connect and it didnt make a difference, same error)
Fact one: not attempting a Homegroup connection at all, just simply wishing to connect in a basic network environment where I can drag and drop files between all PC's in my Home Network or in my house , however its considered. But on the Windows 7 I am unable to view either of the XP's only the other Win7, and when I try to access that one is when I get the "Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found".
Furthermore, while troubleshooting the problem I opened a Command Prompt in all computers, then an "ipconfig" to view each ip address. Then began to ping each machine to determin connectivity. Which resulted in partial success. My main Win7 machine (which i am on now) was able to ping successfully to all machines. But all other machines were unable to ping to me (main Win7). with a 100% loss.
So at least I determined this is most likely a helpful fact in resolving this. Going into "services.msc" I made sure that all the obvious services are started and running:
DCHP Client, Homegroup Listener, Homegroup Provider, Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper, NetTcp Port SHaring Service, Network Connections, Network List Service, Network Location Awareness, TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
All strarted and running in Automactic mode.
Not sure what other information I can give at this point, to help assist in fixing this problem. Please dont hesitate to ask for me for more info if needed. Ready and willing to try anything to get this working, except for reinstalling the OS. All my programs work great and do not wish to go through the drama ao reinstalling all my programs and activating them and redoing all my Adobe settings and CAD settings.

1.    Go to “Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections”.
2.    Right-Click on the connection and choose Properties.
3.    Click “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Version 4” in the list.
4.    Click Properties, and then click Advanced.
5.    On the Advanced TCP/IP settings windows, go to “WINS” tab.
6.    Under NetBIOS setting, click “Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP”, and then click OK.

Error Code 0x80070035 - The network path was not found, Windows Server 2008 SP2

I have bee receiving following "error code 0x80070035 - The network path was not found" when trying to open file shares in both directions using Windows Server 2008 Standard SP2 at both ends. The issue is identical to the KB article KB958285, however the hotfix is only valid up to but not including SP2. One of the servers in question has moved several times between 2 subnets seperated by a VPN. I have tried changing settings in and around the local NIC/DNS Suffix and in the network connection sharing centre, but with no luck. Firewalls are turned off at both sites, and pings and AD queries are successful (one server is a DC). DNS is also working correctly at both sites. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

I thought I would add in another scenario, since this link came to the top of my list in the search engine.
We are running 2008 R2 with SP1 (it happened without SP1 as well)
We could not map using UNC (IP, FQDN, or netbios name). We could ping access the other servers via other utils like event viewer and services.msc but just could not map.
In our case it turned out to be a VMWARE issue but we still had to make a regedit change first
You have to go to regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\Order\
And add LanmanWorkstation to Providerorder
I found on a Citrix board that citrix has an issue with this as well
If you're running VM here is an additional step you should do as well
When you upgrade VMware Tools installed with HGFS from ESX 3.x to ESX 4.x, the HGFS driver may not get uninstalled properly. In this case, the virtual machine's network Provider Order tab in Network Connections
> Advanced > Advanced Settings displays incorrect information and the virtual machine may lose network connectivity.
To avoid this issue, uninstall VMware Tools 3.x before installing VMware Tools 4.x.
To workaround this issue, if you have already upgraded VMware Tools:
Click Start >
Run, type regedit, and click OK. The Registry Editor window opens.
Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\Order\.
Delete the reference to
hgfs.
Reboot the virtual machine.
We found that if you strip out the HGFS, you do not have to reboot for the provider order tab to come back
I hope that this saves people a lot of time. I spent days researching this.

Compilation error - FPGA NI PXI-7951R board - ERROR: Xst: 2472 - Top module Puma15Top was not found.

I'm trying to compile a "user CLIP socket" for the NI PXI board - 7951R which has a Virtex-5 LX30 FPGA from Xilinx, but I got the bellow message from NI Compiler, this message is in error report Xilinx.log.
It says that module Puma15Top was not found.
But this module is a NI property and is automatically compiled by NI Compiler.
The compiler automatically generates these files (Puma15Top...) that are passed to the compiler of Xilinx. The Puma15Top files are in the path, i.e: C: \ NIFPGA \ compilation \ Told_F_I_CC5DC260 \ source_files.
This folder name is automatically generated by labview (Told_F_I_CC5DC260) for each different project or compilation.
So I have no way to configure in CLIP files where it'll be Puma15Top, once the path is automatically generated during compilation by Labview.
Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem? Or have you experienced some like this?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

We have had itunes on this pc for 2 years and recently it wouldn't open and another error message kept popping up saying it couldn't open because MSVCR80.dll was missing. I have unistalled the apple programs and tried reinstalling several times but to no avail. Hopefully my music library is not gone. Any Ideas out there?

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.

I have downloaded, uninstalled and redowloaded Itunes about 50 times and I continue to get the error that my apple application support was not found and that I should uninstall and reinstall Itunes. I can not get to my music and this is starting to really make me mad. Can anyone (other than some bogus virus filled program) give me a hint as to how I can fix this so I can play my music?

The good thing about mac-centric resellers such as OWC, is they have people on staff that can answer questions without you buying things first. They also have how-to information, and instructions are included in many of their products. I saw a link to watch a DIY video in one of their pages; an example of a RAID (with its own power supply) is shown on their drives page. Also a few in there, with no power supplies, for less money.

Some ideas on the RAID backup methods appear in google search, some of the pages are ideas and concepts; and the better ones also warn about using RAID for the only backup plan.
Oh, OWC has live chat. Haven't tried it, nor have I bought anything from them. I have what appears to be two products from them, but have not used either. One is in a box as-new, but has only USB2.0 ports & my Macs needed FW400/800. It has been said their RAM is a good way to upgrade, too. But I can't confirm!
A 'RAID-ready' unit for backup may be more versatile for just that, but I have not checked into these details. I use single HDDs in powered enclosures, and usually manually make backup clones to FW drives, of bootable OS X systems. Some of the OWC raid-ready use eSATA ports so that may not be viable for a computer without them.
The unused in-box external drive I have is like the base model in the link above. However mine is USB2.0 (maybe) and won't boot my older Macs due to hardware variance; and my preference would be for FireWire options, these models do offer that. But the one I have does not. Dual 500GB HDDs, and they could be used in tandem as a RAID. That would be a choice set up in software. I'm not sure and not interested enough to read up just now.
My backup method is not automatic, or a moving backup plan, if I don't get a move-on and make full system clones. I do make copies of photos and documents the manual way, to USB external drives; and occasionally backup to DVD or CD media. And USB flash, that helps to move files between computers without need to use file sharing via wi-fi. {Like Why fly? Walking is better exercise unless one is a bird. Squawk!}

Depending on the ports in your Mac, you may be able to use other cables to attach between a backup or externally enclosed hard disk drive with multiple partition and bootable clone in one of them. Not sure about the Thunderbolt, and where that is the main port, adapters are required to access other devices, as allowed.
Anyway, I am going on and on, yet not really saying anything.
My ideas would not be all that interesting to follow as a backup
plan when matching available newer hardware to task, but you
can get some into better ideas if you are not in a rush. Get a
good setup and then look into more an betterer stuff.

I unplugged a USB data device without ejecting it properly via 'Finder'. Now whenever I plug in the device I received an error message stating that the 'disk was not ejected properly

It has not repaired.
The data I am trying to import is photos & even when I change to a different SD card I receive the same message.

You can repair the SD card using Disk Utility.
I suggest you copy the photos from your SD card, if you haven't done so already, before using Disk Utility to repair your SD card.
