Mail deferring and sitting in queue
We have a xserve G5 running 10.4.11 with all latest updates. Today I updated spamassassin and amavisd-new per osx.topicdesk.com. Now mail won't deliver in either direction and is adding up fast in the queue. Also, SA won't turn respond to turning off virus and spam filtering anymore. I turn them off to see if it helps mail delivery and save and the checkmarks turn right back on. I have rebooted the server and still the same. Here is piece of the log:

I'm really an electrical engineer but inherited IT responsibilities since I am computer savvy. So far the users haven't noticed their email isn't working.
Hi Sparkyetc ... I can't speak for him, but I don't think David was "offended." I think he was giving you a "zin-like" introduction to some special challenges you are faced with based on your expressed frustration with the new, adopted job.
If you go back three years on this forum, you'll see posts by me that were astoundingly clueless, guys like Pterobyte, UptimeJeff, David_x, davidh, and others were great tutors. In my humble opinion, there really isn't a good introductory book on the topic of administering internet services on the Apple Server. So, there are some special challenges you face. I think the reason that I started my initial post to you with "don't panic," is that I believe that directive was one of the first things Pterobyte said to me when I overwrote my amavisd.conf file with the default and killed amavisd on my server (the second thing he told me was to always make backups before mucking around with your server). Later, I leaned the third administrator's axiom, never muck around with your server after four or more bourbons.
One thing is generally true, when you see an error message, you can usually search here or use Google to find a solution. For example, the "lint" error you got (it's not an important message, so I didn't address it), can be eliminated by visiting this page <http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/SpamAssassinon_Mac_OS_XServer> and scrolling to the "Lint (the nasty stuff that grows between your toes)" section of the page.
Finally, you might consider taking a look at topicdesk.com's "Mail server checkup." I think it is a bargain and will ensure that your basic internet services configuration is adhering to best practices.

Exchange 2010 server (Mail,HUB and CAS) installation in new site.
We are planned to install Exchange 2010 servers(MAIL,HUB and CAS) server in new Active director site in existing exchange organization.
Kindly share best practice link for exchange server installation in new site. The best practice for installing into a new Active Directory site is the same as installing into a new organization, except you don't need to prepare the organization or domains (unless you are also installing into a new domain that hasn't been prepared).
Install the CAS then hub, then mailbox roles, or install a multi-role server, then define your CAS Array name and IP address, and set your CAS behind a load balancer (if needed). Add your external certificate to both the CAS and the load balancer (and the
hub if you use TLS for mail transfer), and you should be golden. Also, if you intend to proxy your CAS connections, here's a link that may help:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb310763.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
For completeness, here's a thread on the msexchange.org forums that specifically mentions adding Exchange into a second site:

I've just purchased an ipad2 and have synced it with Outlook to get all contacts, etc. I've set up the mail account and it is working just fine. The sync doesn't pull over legacy emails from Outlook and my Outlook has been set up to remove them from the webmail server therefore they aren't available from webmail anymore. Is there anyway to pull them over to the iPad?
But is there a way (simple or not-so-simple) to find
out EVERY SINGLE FILE that's referenced on a
timeline? (I have lots of stuff imported into the
project that I know isn't used on any timeline, but
I'm afraid of moving or deleting things for fear of
never finding it again.)
I'd love to get some sort of "printout" (a list or
something) of every single file.
There is, go to browser and cntrl click on any one of the columns,
and select - show/source. A new column named "source" will pop up and will show where everything "lives". Click on the header at the top and it will justify the column as well. You'll notice this won't show anything for your seq.'s. of course, but will show stills/audio/motion files...
Once you have the new column, you can drag it next to the "name" column and get a grab of it and print it if you like, or whatever.
If you want to do this for just 1 seq., then can create a new bin and double click it to open it. Cntrl-A (select all) in your main seq. and just drag all into the new bin. You will see only what's in that seq. with the "source" column right next to it.
From what I've read, you seem to get the MM thing and it's obviously what you'll need to do to archive as the guys said. But what your missing is a file path system to where everything resides.
Hope this helps and that I've read you properly,
Peace

Mail Services and Backup MX/mail services
I have a question regarding backup mail services and acceptance of incoming messages.
As of last week, I am new to the world of Mail Services in OS X Server 10.4. Last week, our current email server died and I was forced to take an Xserve G4 that had OS X Server 10.4.10 (unlimited) and setup mail services in order to receive and send mail. I went to a website called osx.topicdesk.com and followed their instructions for front-line spam defense and clamAV updating (and switching to clamd) which all appears to be working OK.
Because our old email server was having some hardware issues for the past several months that I had been working on, I had the feeling that failure might happen. So what I did a few months ago was sign up for Google Apps and their mail service. I added their MX records under my primary mail server so that in the case of a failure of my server, all mail would be passed to Gmail and everyone could get to their mail immediately (as any prolonged downtime won't work since this is a daily newspaper). This did work, for when my old server died, all the mail went immediately to the appropriate Google Apps mail accounts. After about a day of setup on the Xserve, I got the mail services running OK. I gave it all the same IP info as the previous server so that the mail would just start working without having to edit DNS records and such.
The problem I am having seems to be this: While I get most mail, some of my mail is still getting sent to the Google Apps accounts. For example, I have one user, Jane Doe, at [email protected] who gets most of their mail from connecting to the OS X Server, but about 2 - 3 emails a day get passed over to the Google Apps server. I have run DNSStuff.com tests on the mail connections, and I always get a good fast response out of the OS X server. My thinking was that mail would only be passed over to backup mail servers if the first server listed in the MX records was unavailable or offline. In all of my testing, my server has responded every time. The server is connecting via a gigabit network connection (good response), is a dual G4 1.33Ghz, 60GB hard drive with 2GB of RAM. This server doesn't do anything else except run Mail services (and web services for squirrelmail), it doesn't even have file sharing turned on.
My old email server was a Pentium II 400mhz with 348MB of RAM, and it caught all mail, so I know that the Xserve should be able to handle the load without being busy. Is there any reason that my Xserve would be rejecting mail and they would be siphoned off to the Google accounts?
Is this even a possible scenario to fix the problem: Setup a backup MX "queue" account somewhere with one of the BackupMX online services that will catch these stray emails and then send it back to the primary server? But then can be turned off quickly to allow mail to go to the Google Apps accounts if my server went down. In other words, the DNS record would show my primary as 1, the backup mx service as 2, the google servers as 3, 4, 5 and so on. Can Backup MX services be turned off quickly like that so that if my server is down and I need email to be accessed immediately then just "turn off" the service (without modifying the DNS since that will take too long to propogate) so that mail bounces over to Google immediately?
I guess my first troubleshooting attempt should be to figure out why my OS X Server is not accepting all mail.
Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.
GWhen I first started with the company about 2 years ago, they had a really old Linux box (about 10 years old) that was used to host email. It was horrible. It would run OK, but if it ever went down or had a hiccup, it was an all-day project trying to deal with it. Unfortunately, the company did not want to spend any money on a new server or software of course. The answer I got was "well, it's just email". Sure, but if email EVER goes down for more than 15 seconds, all of the employees go into seizures and scream that the place will have to shut down. I work for a daily newspaper, so everything is running 24/7.
Knowing that one day that box was going to just die, I looked into some backup MX services. As pterobyte had mentioned is that with a secondary MX, the problem is that no one can get their mail at all until the primary server comes back up. I knew if that server ever went down, I had nothing to take its place, so I would have to order something or get a server from another location to use. Being unfamiliar with OS X Mail Services, I knew it would take me awhile to try to setup all the users and such. All the while at the newspaper, they would be screaming bloody murder that they needed email working for news, ads coming in, etc. And when I say if it goes down for 10 minutes they start getting into fetal positions in the floor screaming, I'm not far off exaggerating. I figured I was going to need something in place for them to check email while I worked on the primary.
Back in September/October 2007, I discovered that Google hosted free mail services call Google Apps. With Google, I could setup "matching" accounts and would still be able to use my domain name. You just had to use Google's servers as the higher numbered MX records. Luckily, I set up in time for back in November, the Linux box finally died. When it did, all email successfully went to their counterparts on the Google's servers. I had everyone go to the special Google Apps login site and they were able to check their email fine. I ended up having to take a box from another site and then I had another copy of OS X Server 10.4, so I loaded it and successfully setup email (with lots of help from pterobyte's tutorials). They were on Google's systems for about 2 days.
After the disaster, I went around and setup IMAP accounts on everyone's Thunderbird clients so that if our email server went down, they just simply check that mailbox. The nice thing with the Google IMAP is that they automatically see if emails are hitting that inbox from within their client. Right now, it still remains that the 2 original companies that hit the Google accounts still do. The city government email and email from a sister newspaper. Everything else gets directed to the primary server. Although sometimes that doesn't even work, as tonight I am having to work on a problem involving the Clamd app acting up - taking up nearly 100% of the CPU which in turn caused all the mail to be hung up in the queue. So since the mail server didn't "reject" the mail and grabbed it, their gmail "backup" didn't get anything in it. It was taking me forever to figure out what was going on, so I almost just told them to unplug the network cable from the email server so that everything definitely would be forwarded to gmail.
My wish is that I had a secondary mail server in house to not even worry about it - or better yet, I wished I could just outsource the email administration itself to someone else (like webmail.us which is now MailSafe). That way for the most part, they wouldn't lose email. But of course, the company doesn't want to spend the money or invest. Just gripe when the older equipment we have won't support what they want to do with it.
But the story above explains why I did what I did with the Google's servers. I do appreciate everyone's help and input on this particular problem. I am going to look around at the DNS and talk to at least our sister newspaper to see if I can see how they have their DNS setup.
Thanks!

EML files sitting in queue folder on SharePoint 2010 server
Okay, so the incoming email is actually making it to the SharePoint 2010 server. I actually sent 4 emails from my outlook to the sharepoint site library email. the emails are inside of the queue folder on the sharepoint server. Why would
this be? and tje emails all satrt off with NTFS_...Hello,
Same here as well. all mails were going to sitting in queue folder prefixed with NTFS_.
Then I did a telnet {FQDN} 25
helo {server FQDN}
mail from:{your email address}
rcpt to:{email address of email enabled library}
give 250 success code if everything looks great.
In my case it gave me
501 5.5.4
then checked the SMTP Server Domain , was different then changed to correct one it worked fine.

Hi!
We are experiencing trouble when printing to our Xerox WorkCenter 7120 (over wireless network). Printing from Mail App and Notes makes the app crash without printing the mail or the note. Is there any solution for this? Attaching the crash report below. Thank for helping.

After upgrading my iPhone 4S to iOS6, my Find My Friends app no longer links to my Contacts and does not show contact names. It only shows e-mail addresses and does not link up to the corresponding email address in my Contacts. How can I fix this?
I am also having problems with a site I am building. No matter what websafe font I use it displays as New Times Roman in FireFox. The correct fonts show in both IE9 and Chrome.
In addition, text shifts in FireFox. I have to position other text objects farther and farther apart as I go down the page or they start to overlap. Nav buttons and other images also have to be positioned in the wrong place for them to be in the correct place when the page is opened in FireFox. FireFox should display pages correctly by default. I can't expect th average user to have to tweek his/her settings to display my site.
I have been recommending FireFox on my website as the best browser. I might have to change that and abandon FireFox myself. -
Web host, mail server and FTP.
Dear all:
I have some questions and will try to make my post a short one (although the questions aren't exactly simple). I have the need to set up my own web server, e-mail server and FTP server. It is my understanding (and I remember setting another computer I had 2 or 3 years ago this way) that OS X can be used for this without the need to have OS X server installed. I don't need (at least not for the for the immediate future) to have a server for my own local network. Basically all I need is a single computer where (1) I can host multiple web sites, (2) I can host my own e-mail that will correspond in number to the number of web sites (domain names) being hosted and (3) I can set-up as a FTP server so that my clients can log on and download files.
I have used VirtualHostX for virtual hosting as well as PureFTD Manager with good results in the past. I've also found both to be easy to use, with a good and intuitive GUI which is essential for someone with as little knowledge as I have of networking. My question now as to do with e-mail and how to set-up Mac OS X to work as an e-mail server.
Are there any applications you would suggest that would be simple to use, have a simple and intuitive user interface and also provide mailing list services along with e-mail services that you would recommend ? I've looked at a few but most of the ones I have found seem to require command line input and this is something I am not comfortable with. I need an application with a simple interface and allows things to be set-up in a straight forward manner (and preferably free instead of paid).
What would be your recommendations for this project ? Any recommendations, advice and suggestions you can offer will be very appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
JosephPerhaps you should give people more time to answer.
1. You do not need a DNS on your server, ask the ISP to set up the MX record as they set up the A record.
2. Not really enough information in your setup to say either way, but as it takes seconds to do and you have everything else needed - set it up anyway.
3. Domain name: mydomain.com, Host name depends what you call it. If you don't have a name why not mail.mydomain.com and make you mx record point to that name. Perhaps that is what your A record is already. -
After joining a company to receive products, my icloud mail changed and I can't change it back
I joined 'itworks'.com and went on the site to edit our information for purchasing product etc. my email in icloud changed. it now says 'itworks' in the "To;" section of receiving mail. very confused. I went into the mail preferences and could not find out where this is to change it? HELP!
I went into the profile and 'corrected' my email address (icloud account) and then shortly after, all my icloud mail became the 'itworks' in the From and To of my sent emails......I then went back to the profile and switched my email account to an 'alias' in 'outlook' account. It still didn't change my icloud.....
so then I quit (exited) my mail on the computer and reopened it. It has now finally got back to normal again.
Thank you for your help. -

Question about Mail app and domain name please help
Hi,
I wasn't sure where to post this question so figured this would be the best area. I have a website which uses bluehost as it's web hoster. My email is set up through them, such as [email protected]
In my Mail app, I have the POP thing set up so when ever someone emails me it goes right to the Mail app. It works great for my personal computer, but when I go to work and go on other computers is where the problem is.
When I am on a random computer at work, I have to sign onto my webhosting site and then use squirrel mail. It is quite a hastle and is not the best. I would love to use gmail, but still keep my domain name I have.
One co-worker mentioned just forwarding all my [email protected] emails to my new gmail email. There are issue's with doing this because if I'm at work and email someone with gmail it will use that email address. Also, I want to be able to read all my sent messages from any computer including the sent messages that were within my Mail app. Is this possible?
Besides forwarding is there a better solution? It is sort of hard to explain. Basically I want my [email protected] address to be run through gmail, be able to access on any computer, have it be the only address in my mail app, and most importantly have the sent messages from mail app to be able to be read on all computers.
I think gmail lets you make a domain name email, without gmail being included at the end. But I already have the email address made...am I able to just swap it? And keep all my mail inbox info?
What's the best sollution for my problem?
ThanksYou would need to login to your web mail account to reply so that the email came from "[email protected]"
I try to get a gmail address that is close to the domain name like - [email protected] - so that I don't have to bother opening web mail as it is a pain.
I forward to Gmail and then Mac Mail because their spam blocker is the best.
A lot of web mail addresses bounce mail because the capacity is limited and the owners don't go into their control panel to launch their web mail and clear out the old stuff. Lawyers, in particular, are famous for this. For this reason I don't set web mail to keep a copy of the forwarded mail. If my web mail gets full of spam and they start bouncing then its not my problem! -
How to archive a message in mail app and delete in imap gmail
I've been searching the forums before asking this but have failed to find the answer.
I'd like to, if possible, use the archive function in my mail app on iMac to archive and store messages locally. At the same time I'd like to delete those messages from the Gmail servers so that my archived messages only sit on my iMac.
I've tried but Gmail creates an [IMAP]/Archive folder with the messages that I've archived on my mac.
Is this possible?
Thanks in advanceThankyou
Yes, I tried that already and it successfully stores the email locally, "On my Mac", however, the email remains within Gmail's All mail folder and is therefore not removed from Google's servers.
Is it possible to achieve this without having to go into Gmail and separately deleting the mail from All mail?
Would like to avoid the duplication if possible.

I am an Apple Mail user and my university just switched to an Exchange Server 2003 for student e-mail. The university is only supporting Entourage, but I have configured Mail to work with Exchange without any major problem. This week, I have noticed that I have a problem where Mail.app will say that I have four new e-mails in my Exchange in-box. When I click on my Exchange in-box, no new e-mail appears. After experiencing this problem for about a week, I finally logged onto our Exchange web access site for the university. I discovered that I did indeed have four new e-mails in my in-box, but these e-mails were not showing up in Mail.app. Interestingly, all of the e-mails were undeliverable e-mails that had popped back because I had the wrong address. I am wondering why these e-mails would show up in on web access, but not show up in Mail.app.
I have spoken with our university tech. support numerous times and they have been unable to figure out the problem. It seems this may be a Mail.app isse as opposed to an Exchange problem.
Thanks,
Joe BiedlingmaierI use Exchange at work and have 5 Macs working with it w/o problems. The trick is to correctly specify SMPT and Outlook Web Access Server.
Do the following:
When you create a new mail account, choose IMAP or Exchange (if it shows on the list)
for Email Address specify your exchange email address
continue
for Incoming Mail Server: use name of the server without any prefixes such as mail. (The example shown under the box is wrong. It took me forever to figure it out)
for username and password use the same one you use when log in into exchange webmail
continue
for outgoing email server use the name of the server, again without smtp.
you may need to use authentification in order to send mail. In that case use the same user and password as when you log into your exchange
I was doing it as I was writing this to make sure it workes. It does.

Hi there. Perhaps it will sound kind of weird, but I don´t remember how many discs came with the FCS2. Were there 8 or 9? Because I rescently opened my box for reinstallation and found only 8. The one I believe is missing is a Training Tutorial DVD.
