Mailman virtual domain issue in 10.5.2

Hi,
We have upgraded to a 10.5.2 server and its working pretty smooth except for Mailman.
Mailman works fine when mails are sent to [email protected] but not when they are sent to [email protected].
And our mailman users were all used to sending to [email protected].
When I send to [email protected] I get the following:
This is the mail system at host mail.mydomain.com.
I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not

After doing more reading I realized I do not need virtual mail users. I just need mydomain.com as a local host alias along with mail.mydomain.com, what is the best way to do that in 10.5.2 ?

  • Mailman virtual domains configuration - Anyone has been successfull?

    Hello,
Is there any one out there that has manage to configure Mailman to work with virtual domains in a Mac OS X Server 10.3.9 enviroment??
    Anyone??
I've tryied every setup and read everything in the web about postfix and mailman and I just cant get it to work.
If there is anyone out there that could show me his configuration I would mostly greatfull.

If I keep the aliases and the virtual-mailman hashes
in the postfix configuration I can have lists running
for local and virtual domains, right?
And we can have lists with the same name? And even
with the same name of the users in WG?
Once again, you can have the same name, be it for a user, be it for a list only ONCE per domain. A list and a user address are the same thing to postfix (they only difference is that a list adress is aliased to a mailman script). So they cannot exist twice in the same domain, but they can coexist in seperate VIRTUAL domains. Not in local host aliases.
In order to this works I must have in SA, Mail,
Advanced Settings, the virtual domain listed in the
    local host alias?
Absolutely NOT! Virtual domains and local host aliases must be kept separate.

  • Setup mailinglist for virtual domain with postfix, mailman and Server Admin

    Hello everybody!
we have set up a working mailman/postfix configuration for mailing list purposes only on a Tiger Server. What we wanted to do now is to enable another mailinglist for a virtual domain which is hosted (the website) on another Tiger Server in our domain. But everything we tried up to now did lead to a solution. When I send an email to [email protected], the MX of our domain hands the email over to the mailing list server, who seems not to be aware of his obligation to handle that mail. The mailing list server then forwards the mail again to the original MX and so on... It seems like we missed something simple to do in the postfix config.
    Things we tried:
    * hints from http://www.freebsddiary.org/mailman-virtual-domains.php -- no effect
    * hints from http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa;jsessionid=aOuiMaZMLAq_Mfqf9S?messageID =1566428 -- no mailing list working anymore
Any hints would be dearly appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Florian Schneider

I solved the problem myself after getting a better understanding of the postfix documentation on postfix.org.
    In detail, I added
    to /etc/postfix/virtual:
    [email protected] [email protected]
    to /etc/postfix/main.cf:
    virtualaliasdomains = virtualdomain.com
    virtualaliasmaps = hash:/etc/postfix/virtual
    then I did
    sudo postmap /etc/postfix/virtual
    sudo postfix reload
    and everything worked fine.

The problem was the separated System Reserved Partition. After I removed using this instructions:

  • Another Mailman and virtual domains problem... mailbox does not exist

    Hi,
this is yet another thread about virtual domain mailinglist with mailman.
    To sum up:
    - OpenDirectory account "[email protected]" -> mail delivered
    - Deleting this account and creating a mailing-list "test11", opening the admin interface to change the host "server.domain.com" (which is the primary host of the machine, so each mailinglist is created with this host) and replacing it with "virtualdomain.com"
    - sending an email to "[email protected]" -> following error:
    Jan 18 14:12:23 server postfix/qmgr[74872]: 698E5BF735: from=<[email protected]>, size=691, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
    Jan 18 14:12:23 server postfix/pipe[74882]: 698E5BF735: to=<[email protected]>, orig_to=<[email protected]>, relay=cyrus, delay=0.28, delays=0.14/0.01/0/0.13, dsn=5.6.0, status=bounced (data format error. Command output: test11: Mailbox does not exist )
    - adding back the OD account "[email protected]" -> mail delivered to inbox (not to mailing-list recipients)
    - now if i delete the mailinglist in Server Admin then send an email to "[email protected]" -> following error (seems obvious):
Jan 18 13:18:49 server postfix/lmtp[74275]: A9B7CBF45F: to=<[email protected]>, relay=server.domain.com[/var/imap/socket/lmtp], delay=0.16, delays=0.13/0/0/0.03, dsn=5.1.1, status=bounced (host server.domain.com[/var/imap/socket/lmtp] said: 550-Mailbox unknown. Either there is no mailbox associated with this 550-name or you do not have authorization to see it. 550 5.1.1 User unknown (in reply to RCPT TO command))
IOW, it looks like somehow the mailinglist aliases are being lost somewhere.
Postfix forgets to delivers the incomming mails to Mailman, doesn't it? According to lots of forum searchs it could be forced by using one of those two commands:
    sudo /usr/sbin/postalias
    sudo /usr/sbin/postmap
Unfortunately I dont know how they work precisely and can't find X.5 accurate information so I hope you can guide me through this step.
Also I don't know how to track the incomming mails at the moment they are dispatched to either an OD account (so it's delivered or generates the 550 error) or a Mailman list (so it's looking for aliases and so on).
    Any help will be appreciated.

  • Mailman + Postfix + Virtual Domains

I'm going nuts trying to get this thing working... I spent the best part of yesterday getting Postfix and Courier working with Virtual Domains and a PostgreSQL backend. That's all working fine.
Now I've spent about the last 5 - 6 hours trying to get Mailman working -- obviously without any luck.
Can someone point me in the right direction? I tried installing from source, and following the 'official' installation manual, but that doesn't cover Virtual Domains very well (obviously not well enough to get it working at least).
*Then* I realized that their's a package in EXTRA for Mailman, so I wiped the source install I did, and installed the package, but I'm still stuck.
I think the main part of my problem, is the manual says that I should have a 'data/virtual-mailman' in the mailman installation directory, but I don't, and can't find any information on how it is created!
At the end of the day, I just need a single damn mail list on one of my virtual domains for a dozen people -- if anyone has an easier solution than this, please suggest!

Let me be sure I understand your situation.  You currently have postfix setup with virtual domains and mysql.  You are successfully able to send/receive emails from your virtual accounts, correct?
    Correct.

Correct. My domain in question is ryla9810.org which has one alias that forwards to my gmail account (phil@), and I need one mail list with a dozen members (team@). The forward works, but the maillist is causing me grief

  • Virtual Domain Controllers in 2012 Failover Cluster. Time Skew

    Hi All,
Not sure if this is the correct space for this topic, however i'll give it a go anyway.
We have a 2 Hosts (HP DL385) Windows Server 2012 Failover Cluster.
Storage is provided by a 12 Bay NAS with iSCSI connections (This is catering for CSV's and Quorum)
We are running 2 Virtual domain controllers (2008R2)
The issue we experience is that if the cluster goes down, and when it comes back online the time on the domain controllers (one or the other or both) skews by any where up to 3 days which causes havoc for our office until we can resync clocks with the PDCe.
Time Synchronisation Integration Service is disabled on both Domain Contollers
A few days back we need to reboot the storage on the cluster, and the tasks performed were as follows:
-Power off all virtual machines (Graceful Shutdown)
-Put all CSV's into maintenance mode
    -Offline Disk Witness to Quorum
-Rebooted Storage (Waited until it came back online)
    -Online Quorum Storage (Successful)
-Bring CSV's out of maintenance mode (Successful & Browsable)
-Power on all Virtual Machines (Successful)
This is where the time Skewed and caused headaches. The time for some reason went to 2 days 11hrs in the past on 1 domain controller.
With this DNS lookups failed to work, Cluster services failed, Cluster Aware Updating Failed, RDP to VM's (and Virtual Hosts) by DNS Name failed (Date time error)
There doesn't seem to be anything in the EventLog except for date/time stamp on events being 2 days in the past.
Now this is why i'm not sure if the issue is cause by fail over clustering, or is an issue with the domain controllers.
Any advice regarding this or if anyone has seen this behaviour before any info would be great
    Thanks
    Rob

    Hi Rob,
Does both this two DCs on your cluster VM and there have not others DCs? Microsoft recommends that files for virtualized domain controllers be placed on non-CSV
disks, Non-CSV disks can be brought online without authentication. Because non-CSV disks can be brought online more easily.
For virtual machines that are configured as domain controllers, it is recommended that you disable time synchronization between the host system and guest operating
system acting as a domain controller. This enables your guest domain controller to synchronize time from the domain hierarchy, please confirm your PDC time is always correct.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your response.
From the error description, you need to manually remove the ECP with IIS manager in both the Default Web Site and the Exchange Back End firstly. And then continue the upgrade to check the result.
Hope this can be helpful to you.

  • Weblogic-next, virtual domains and SSL

    Hi
Current versions of WL (6.1 and below) do not support distinct
Certificates for each virtual domain. This means that we cannot
support multiple secure sites (HTTP-S based) using the virtual domain feature
in WL. And this affects us as we are an ASP, and our customers need distinct domain
    names.
Another issue is that the security realm (RDBMS, File, whatever)
is shared amongst the virtual domains, so the authentication
database is essentially common for all our customers.
Will these problems be fixed in the upcoming major release of
WebLogic ? I'd greatly appreciate it someone within WL can
send me an answer - group post/private. (I'm also trying the sales/support channels).

    smcnulty,
You are referring to Cyrus ACLs which apply to IMAP and not SMTP. As I said IMAP logins work just fine, it was SMTP that didn't accept the user. User creation with WGM works well, no problems here. Your tips may surely be of help to someone having IMAP/POP issues.
    pterobyte:
Alex saved the day (again). You were certainly right that postfix didn't even know about the configurations I made in /etc/postfix/virtual. Everything is working fine now and I am only waiting for my DNS transfer to finally carry over. I only need to setup a backup MX, nothing more to do.
    Thanks

  • Prime Infrastructure - Email Alerts by Virtual Domain

We are currently providing wireless to various buildings and districts via flexconnect controllers and use Prime as a monitoring device each separate group is able to access individually to view their maps and APs. I have received a request for email alerts when APs are down from one district, but I see no way to group the email alerts that Prime sends out. It seems to be you can vary by type (APs vs switches) but not by virtual domains or groups of devices. Is there any way to pull this off directly from Prime?
I could potentially have all email alerts sent to one inbox and then forward based on rules to include the AP syntax for each district, but that would be quite messy, especially if only one of the many districts wants the alerts.
Thanks for any idea you can provide.

Just an update for anyone who may stumble on this issue and have the same problem. In version 1.4 of Prime Infrastructure if you change your virtual domain in the top right and then go to alerts and choose email options you have a completely new list you can set up. Doing this you can do a root folder for a company or district you are providing for and setup email alerts for only that teir and bellow of access. This way they only see alerts from APs and devices they have access too. Meanwhile you can leave the root teir to email yourself and then separate them out via inbox rules as desired.
This may be possible on older versions of Prime, but I did not notice the email alerts being an option while under the other domains until 1.4.

  • Set up virtual domain without Server Admin?

    Hello all--
I need to set up mail service for a second domain on our Xserve. Don't want to use Server Admin, because by now I've tweaked postfix, cyrus, amavisd, spamassassin, etc so much that I'm afraid using Server Admin to make any config changes will break things. So can anyone point me to a thread or another website with instructions/tutorials on how to configure virtual host/virtual domains/local host aliases, etc without the use of Server Admin? Many thanks--

If you want to keep the same structure for your virtual domains and continue using WGM then there is little you need to do.
Create the users in WGM as virtual users (will need a shortname [email protected])
Edit /etc/postfix/virtual_domains and add the domain followed by a space andd "allow"
    Issue sudo postmap /etc/postfix/virtual_domains
    Issue sudo postfix reload
    That's it.
If you want to use actual postfix style virtual domains then www.postfix.org is a good starting point.

  • IChat Server dropping virtual domain.

    Hello everyone,
I have a fresh 10.6.2 server install with newly configured OD and DNS.
The server hostname is server.mydomain.com and has a verified ptr record.
    I also have a CNAME of ichat.mydomain.com to server.mydomain.com
In iChat server I have added the ichat.mydomain.com to the list and it all works for a while but then after a reboot it removes itself and users can not longer connect. If I add it back again it will run as if it never was removed.
    Anyone?
    Many thanks,
    David Lee

I wanted to post an update here with my findings so far. Over the last 24 hours my iChat virtual host domains haven't been deleted and it may be related to the following.
Like many others, I had been getting the dreaded AppleYukon2 chip reset "bug" (AppleYukon2: 00000001,00000000 sk98nif - deadmanCheck - nothing received, resetting chip) showing up in my kernel.log. It appears this AppleYukon2 issue is related to network inactivity, albeit triggered by only a couple minutes of inactivity.
As a test to eliminate network inactivity, and therefore the AppleYukon2 chip resetting issue, I started pinging the router on my network every minute. I did this with "ping -i 60 router_name" from Terminal. This has been successful in stopping the AppleYukon2 chip reset.
You can read more about the AppleYukon2 issue here and here.
Now on to its relation to the iChat dropping virtual hosts from the list. I noticed many times when the AppleYukon2 issue was popping up, that in my system.log I would see jabberd detecting a network change and reloading its configuration files.
    Apr 2 08:56:31 srv1 configd[31]: network configuration changed.
Apr 2 08:56:31 srv1 /usr/sbin/serialnumberd[98360]: Responding to network change notification.
Apr 2 08:56:36 srv1 servermgrd[73]: servermgr_mail: Network change request does not identify the old address. No action taken.
    Apr 2 08:57:35 srv1 servermgrd[73]: servermgr_jabber: External configuration change detected, re-loading: sm.xml
    Apr 2 08:57:35 srv1 servermgrd[73]: servermgr_jabber: External configuration change detected, re-loading: c2s.xml
    Apr 2 08:57:35 srv1 servermgrd[73]: servermgr_jabber: External configuration change detected, re-loading: muc-jcr.xml
It seems during these times, but not always, iChat would drop the virtual domains from the list. Also (and I'm going from memory here) it seems that it dropped domains while I was in the middle of using the server and network. But I can't be positive on that.
My server hasn't removed the domains since sometime yesterday before I started pinging my router, whereas before it would remove things multiple times per day. Hopefully this (lame) workaround will turn out to be a temp fix.
Can anyone else test this to see if it helps their situation?

  • How to let mmp_smtp support  virtual domain authentication by user/pass

    ok,let's discuss with data.
i want to migrate another domain "soft.com" to my current Messaging Server,
i have created the new host domain : soft.com ,and the user "testmail" belongs to that domain.
the following show the process of my login.

    helo soft.com
    250 mail2

    250 2.5.0 Address Ok.
    quit
221 2.3.0 Bye received. Goodbye.becase i start the ssl connection for user to send and receive mail ,so i have to use mmp as smtp/pop/imap proxy. i don't want the user of domian "soft.com" need modify any of their mail client after the migration ,that means, the user of domain "soft.com" can login use "testmail",but not "[email protected]".
    i don't know whether i have described my question clearly,thanks for endure my lame english~ ! :)

  • 10.5.2 Virtual Domains - 2 user questions

(NOTE: Generic host and domain names used in this mail, real ones are used for the actual machine)
Clean 10.5.1 install, immediately hit software update multiple times till 10.5.2 and any other offered updates were installed.
Went into WGM and created the accounts for my virtual domain users (I will not be doing any mail accounts on the main server which is called localhost.local) using the same setup as the 10.5.1 tutorial referenced many times on this site. I made no by-hand file changes other than making the bounces soft instead of hard, as I think that virtual domains are supposed to work now with 10.5.2.
Went into Server Admin, added Mail as a service and configured it with my virtual domain in the Advanced/Hosting tab and turned on debug output for SMTP and POP.
Pointed my firewall at the new mail server so that DNS would be correct
Tried sending a mail from my test user to my test user from a mail client on my LAN.
    YAY! It works!
Ok, so with the WGM version of virtual domains, where do I put the dreaded catch-all user for the one domain that required it?
Do I just make a virtual user account with the second shortname being @mydomain1.com?
And, for forward-only mail addresses do I make a virtual user account with the "mail" tab set to forward?
Or, do I still use the tutorial method for those features where I edit files directly?
Thanks, and (fingers crossed) last question for a while.

    one domain that required it?

To be honest, I never tried, but I seriously doubt this will work (worth trying though). I'd put it in /etc/postfix/virtual (can coexist fine with WGM, but you'll need to add the reference to it to main.cf
And, for forward-only mail addresses do I make a virtual user account with the "mail" tab set to forward?
As above, worth trying. Doubt it'll work through WGM.
Generally speaking and from my experience and assuming there are no bugs, Server Admin and WGM allow for basic setups. Anything slightly advanced is better done through the command line. Sad but true.

  • Can I make a subfolder a Virtual Domain?

    Greetings all,
Still on Tiger Server. I've created virtual domains before like this:
    Default: /Library/WebServer/Documents
    Virtual1: /Library/WebServer/Virtual1
But I want to know if I can do this:
    Default: /Library/WebServer/Documents
    Virtual1: /Library/WebServer/Documents/subfolder1
    Virtual2: /Library/WebServer/Documents/subfolder2
I have the Virtual domains entered in DNS, but they ALL just go to the default site right now, even though I defined the virtual domains (using Server Admin) as their own domains pointing to the subfolder path.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Sure you can do what you want - just be aware that http://default.com/subfolder1/ will be the same content as http://virtual1.com/ since they both point to /Library/WebServer/Documents/subfolder1.
That said, you probably have a wildcard (*) set in the Aliases section of the default site. This tells apache to match this virtual host to all hostnames so the others never get referenced. Remove the *.
