How can i  programmatically search, hightlight text and make annotations in PDF using JQuery?

JQuery is part of the OS and Acrobat/Reader is very isolated from the contact with the OS. If you were to write a plug-in in and add it to your copy of Acrobat/Reader you could then use that plug-in to access the OS shell.

  • How to write special characters in PDF using iText

How to write special characters encoded with UTF-8 in PDF using iText.
    Regards,
    Pandharinath.

I don't know what your problem is but that's almost certainly the wrong question to ask about it. Java (including iText) uses only Unicode characters. (You may consider some of them to be "special" if you like but Unicode doesn't.) And when it does that, they aren't encoded in UTF-8 or any other encoding.
So can you describe your problem? That question doesn't make sense.

If you have Pages you can create customs pages for your book as TD suggested. If you have Pages from iWork 09 or 11 this app will add 80 or so additional frames to those offered:  Frames and Strokes Installer. Don't use it on the latest Pages version, however.
This tutorial shows how to create a custom page with the theme's background: iP11 - Creating a Custom Page, with the Theme's Background for an iPhoto Book.  Once the page is complete to get it into iPhoto as a jpeg file follow these steps:
Here's how to get any file into iPhoto as a jpeg file:
1 - open the file in any application that will open it.
2 - type Command+P to start the print process.
3  - click on the PDF button and select "Save PDF to iPhoto".
NOTE:  If you don't have any of those options go to Toad's Cellar and download these two files:
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Save PDF to iPhoto 300 DPI.workflow.zip
Unzip the files and place in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder and reboot.
4 - select either of the files above (300 dip is used for photos to be included in a book that will be ordered).
5 - in the window that comes up enter an album name or select an existing album and hit the Continue button.
That will create a 200 or 300 dpi jpeg file of the item being printed and import it into iPhoto. For books to be printed choose 300 dpi.

  • Can't convert .doc to .pdf using Acrobat 9.4.3.

    Guys,
Last night for some reason Acrobat 9 suddenly stopped converting any MS Word .docs to .pdfs.  It gives me the following message:
Acrobat could not open 'XYZ.doc' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then print the document to Adobe PDF or use the Acrobat toolbar found in Microsoft Office applications.
I swear it was working earlier. So I checked for an update and it gave me 9.4.3 so I updated and it didn't fix the problem.  I also tried several different files and got the same message.
    I'm using OS 10.6.7 Acrobat 9.4.3 and MS Word 11.3.5 (2004).
    Thanks,
    Solan

What version of Word do you Have?
Word 2004 if you had Acrobat as well the PDFmaker menu bar was installed by Acrobat you could convert a .doc Document to PDF.  It required the use of VBA and and a Macro which created the PDFMaker menu.  I was Secretary and Treasurer of an association for 30 years and I converted many a 2004 Word Document to PDF using PDFMaker.
You still had the same problems with word converted to PDF as today. If there are any section Breaks or Page breaks the pdfs were broken up into pieces you have to put back together.
I still have some .Doc files from early 2006 and with Office 2011, I opened one, and just saved it as a Pdf no trouble. I didn't convert it and didn't save it as a Docx.
I simply went to Save as and chose  PDF.
And I also went to Print menu> PDF> adobe quality PDF.  and was able to make a PDF.
Also I just went to print menu > PDF and just chose PDF which makes an Apple version of PDF.
I don't know where anyone got the idea you can't make a PDF from a Doc File.  Maybe in a future version That doesn't read doc. but for now

  • How to make only part of a PDF document editable?

I'm looking to see if there is a way to make only part of a PDF document editable. My problem is, I have pieces of collateral that some of our channel partners need to be able to add their logo to and then edit the contact information on them, but we don't want them to be able to change any of the main copy on these documents. The only thing I've been able to come up with as a solution is to create outlines of the text that I don't want editable, but I need the copy to be able to be read by computer systems for disability purposes. Does anyone have any ideas on something I could do for this? Or has anyone dealt with anything like this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi vward26,
You can use Acrobat to make only part of a PDF document editable.

How do I replace numbers with text in tax return pdf using Adobe Acrobat X Pro? The tax return was created using CCH software. Thanks for your review.

Thanks Bill for your quick reply. CCH software is one of the major

  • How can I hyperlink from FM to an external document and make the links work in PDF-XChange Viewer?

A couple of months ago some of you kindly taught me how to insert links to an external document in FrameMaker. The syntax that made all the difference, was the following:
    message openfile "H:/folder name/to/your/file.ext"
I converted my FrameMaker file to PDF format using Acrobat Distiller, and everything worked like a charm when the users opened the resulting PDF document in Acrobat Reader.
Much to my frustration, someone has now decided that the organisation should use PDF-XChange Viewer instead of Acrobat Reader, and my links don't work anymore... Nothing happens when you click on them. (This only applies to links to external documents. Links to e.g. websites work nicely.)
Has anybody got any idea what I could do to make the links work in PDF-Xchange Viewer as well? Or am I trying to do the impossible now?
    Best regards

  • Converting Back to Original PDF Using Post Script File

Is there any way to convert back to an original PDF using a post srcipt file that was created from that original PDF?  Allow me to fully explain my situation:
I converted multiple pdf's that I created into a post script file.  I then utilized Adobe Distiller to convert them into a pdf that could be used for better printing and better usability by the end user.  Unfortunately, when Distiller did this conversion, it replaced my original pdf with the new one.  By the time I realized what was happening, all files had been replaced.
I still have the post script file that was created from the original PDF file; is there any way possible using this post script file that it can be somehow converted back to the original PDF file?  There are some edits that I need to do on the original PDF.  The pdf that Distiller creates doesn't allow for anymore edits.  My goal is to be able to make my edits without having to re-create 37 pages of documents.
The software versions I'm using are as follows: Adobe Acrobat X Version 10.1.4, Adobe Distiller Version 10.1.438.
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!

    Hello, thank you for responding.
Yes the url links start with http:
For example when I type in
    http://canberracontemporaryartspace.wordpress.com/2013/07/06/staying-out-of-trouble/
in the word document and click on it, the link works; but when I save it as a pdf it says "not found"
And then when I type in
    http://www.camberwellspecialists.com.au/what-is-skin-cancer.html
in the word document and click on it, the link works; but when I save it as a pdf it says "page not found"

Public Sub proc_convert_to_PDF(srcFilename As String, destFilename As String)

    1) to be able to set the font face of the destination file ( destFilename)
    2) to be able to set the font size of the destination file ( destFilename)
Am using Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Type Library
    Kindly Help.
    Thanks in advance

We didn't say it doesn't work. We said it isn't supported.
There are a number of other ways to make a PDF. The one which would
give the most control is if your application directly printed to GDI,
controlling the font directly. This could print to Adobe PDF.
You could look for an application that gives control of font for
    printing.
You could use a text-to-PostScript system and distill the result. You
    could even look for a non-Adobe text-to-PDF.
Working in the unsupported and dangerous world you chose, the font
size for text conversion is set (and this is very bad design from
Adobe) in the settings for Create PDF > From Web Page. There is no API
    to this.

  • How can you change individual words in a PDF using javascript?

    Hi,
I am trying to do some simple text replacement in a PDF file using Acrobat. Specifically, I want to do some simple transliteration of words or partial transliteration. For instance, I would like to change a word like "red" to "ρed". This is to help me get used to the Greek alphabet step by step.
Anyway, I downloaded Acrobat and there is no feature to do a single letter search and replace -- only word replacement. I have a Computer Science degree and decided to investigate the javascript capabilities to see if I can make those a simple letter replacement script. However, I have gotten to the point where I can cycle through every word in the PDF (using functions like getPageNthWord), and I can make a replacement on the string returned using something like: val.replace(/r/, "ρ"). However, I don't know how to replace the word in the PDF file....such as with a hypothetical function setPageNthWord (which does not exit). I have found the online documentation very thin on this, and I am scratching my head. Perhaps, it is something to do with the PDF format that I do not understand. So, is there a way to simply change text of a PDF file, like I am asking? All I am looking for is simple script to change a letter to another across a PDF.
    thanks if you can help
    Justin

JS can't edit the text in a PDF file directly. There are workarounds, like
using a redaction with overlay text or simply placing a new field or
annotation on top of the old text with the new one, but they are all far
from perfect and won't cause a "reflow" of the document, so if the two
texts are not of the same length the result will look odd. Also there's the
issue of which font to use (font family, color, size, etc.), which JS can't
know so you'll have to tell it.

  • Hypertext links are not always preserved from Word to PDF, using Aperçu or Adobe, depending on OS 10 or Lion. Why? This generally works perfectly in Windows. Why are Apple and Adobe unable to correctly handle links when converting from Word to PDF?

Hypertext links are not always preserved from Word to PDF, using Aperçu or Adobe, depending on OS 10 or Lion. Why? This generally works perfectly in Windows. Why are Apple and Adobe unable to correctly handle links when converting from Word to PDF?
Depending on the system version, and Office Word version:
    - a pure URL link starting with http or even www sometimes works in PDF, either produced by Aperçu or Adobe, sometimes does not work;
    - other kind of links where the text under display is not a URL, never work!
I like everything with Apple computers and software, except PDF generation. Output files are usually bigger in size, and no better quality, than under Windows. Furthermore, it is weird that something as common as hyperlinks does not work correctly!
I related this question with Mac OS X Snow Leopard, but the problem is still there with Mac OS Lion.
This problem seems to have been around for years, without any proper solution from Apple and/or Adobe! To me, this is very embarrassing!

    Greetings NoNameGiven,
If I understand the problem correctly (I’m not sure I do) you would prefer ‘iii’ to be read as “eye eye eye” rather than “three”? The alt text property is the only way that I know of to make this happen. Hope this helps.

  • Create pdf using 16 bit windows application

    Hi
Just installed a new PC with Vista Ultimate and the Web Premium CS3 suite.
In my printers control panel I have listed Adobe pdf as an available
    printer.
This works fine except for one program that uses the 16 bit wow exec. When I tell it to print to the default windows printer it works OK but when I
change the default to adobepdf- it appears nothing happens. There are no
    error messages.
If I install "primopdf" the free version and set that as my default printer
the 16 bit program creates a pdf file normally.
Is this an acrobat problem or one relating to my accounts package? if the
latter then why does primo pdf work ok
    Any ideas anyone?
    thanks
    Ian

well make sure you have Service Pack 1 installed and make acrobat is at 8.1.2. Then remove the pdf printer and do a repair of acrobat. Make sure that third party pdf printer is uninstalled before any of this cause that is going to cause you problmes.

I am having autocad not respond when I am making a pdf using autocad 2002 and adobe acrobat XI
We have adobe acrobat 8 on another system that seems to work fine,  what elsedo we need to do to get this trial version to work properly.
We are able to get everything set up , sized, etc,  but when the actual process starts it is stating  "autocad not responding and it  just spins and never makes the actual final pdf.
Any help on this would be appreciated

It's probably a compatibility problem with the updated PDF libraries vs. you hopelessly old ACAD that can't be resolved. In any case, I'd consider it one of those things of trying to attack the problem on the wrong end. All major CAD programs have native PDF export these days and even ACAD has had since v2006 at least...
