Make my computer run faster
I hope I can get some help here; Recently I purchased Fios in a hope that my computer would run faster after Fios instalation, but no difference at all, then I asked the technician at verizon, they forwarded me to another verizon department to register for a service which will help about the computer run better, and that is $14 a month.
Is there any other easy way or trick that makes your computer run faster, or what actually causes the computer to slow down? My friend told me that if you don't delete the long emails will slow it as well, is it true?
Any experienced input will be appreciated
There are a number of things that may help, but none of them are likely to help a great deal unless your computer is infected with one or more viruses/malware.
1). If any of your HDD's partitions FAT (as opposed to NTFS) format, defragmenting the disk may be helpful. In general NTFS partitions don't need to be defragmented.
2). Get rid of the temporary files. It is not uncommon for PC's to end up with literally gigabytes of temporary files. They are left over from software updates, installs, and Internet Explorer SNAFU's. (Do this BEFORE you Defragment the disk).
Most temporary files either live in directories called temp, have names that start with ~ and/or end with .tmp
3). Clean up the registry. While Windows will usually still run with a truly amazing number of registry errors, it usually runs better with a lot fewer of them. Software you see such as 'speed up my pc' advertised on Television are in fact registry 'cleaners'. The registry in windows is kind of the like telephone operator before the days of dial telephones. There are a number of commercial products that do this, but in general you are going to have to buy one.
4). Unless you are running Vista or Windows 7, try Verizon's high speed internet optimizer to tweak some of the internet settings for better performance.
5). Uninstall any software that you aren't using.
6). Use a good anti-virus/anti-malware/spyware program, and scan your HDD's on a regular basis for viruses and other malware.
Cleaning up your emails is very low on my list of things that are likely to be helpful.

In addition i am thinking about to make participation with win7 does it affect the speed of my computer negative? Thank you.
If you have only 4GBs of RAM, this article may help you - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3238726
You may need to upgrade the RAM or make changes to the apps you use.. Since your Hard Drive is nicely underutilized and is probably behaving well, that should not be the problem.

Does using secure disk erase make computer run faster?
Does using the secure disk erase help mac book pro to run faster?
No. That option should only be used for sensitive files; the Disk Utility's command for it is meant for secure deletion of files which were insecurely deleted or when the entire drive needs to be securely wiped.

How can i make my imac run faster?
I have an 8 year old iMac. I am running OS X.
Hardware Overview:
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Boot ROM Version: IM51.0090.B09
I am a graphic designer so I need to run InDesign, Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop usually simultaneously. I also have Microsoft Office installed.
It is now running very slow and is sluggish. I've not tried anything yet to solve my problem,
Any tips what I can do to speed it up, would appreciate any helpl!I have an 8 year old iMac.
IMHO, here is no magic bullet to make a very old computer run applications like the ones you describe fast.
Compare the specs on your machine with a 27" iMac (current line):
27-inch: 3.2GHz
Specifications
3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5
Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
8GB (two 4GB) memory
1TB hard drive1
NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M with 1GB video memory
I don't spend other people's money, but if it were my money I would seriously consider a new computer.

How to make my iMac run faster
Hi there,
I have a 2011 iMac which is hardly used. I have upgraded the ram to 12 GB when I purchased it. However, it takes ages for the computer to run, especially during start-up.
Any thoughts on how to make it run faster?
Cheers,
GaryMake sure you installed the correct RAM. Installing the wrong type will cause the system to become unstable and slow.

How can I make my program run faster ? (changing colour indicators quicker)
Hi everyone, I have a program with 100 indicator colour backgrounds that change according to 100 temperatures. A case structure (with 100 cases) sets the background colours one after the other and runs in a while loop with no timing (as fast as possible). The temperatures are loaded up from an array that is initialized at the beginning of the program. The idea is to have an overall view of the change of temperatures (just by looking at the change of colours). Everything works fine except that it doesn’t run fast enough... The change of colours is not smooth at all ... you can really see the increments. It works fine with 20 temperatures for instance. 1) Would anybody have a solution to improve this? I was wondering if Labview perhaps actualises all of the values each time one changes (just like with the excel cells: an option that you can desactivate and make things run quicker when you use a macro) which would make a big loss of time....
There is no data saving this is just a post treatment program. So My my program isn't doing anything else.
2) I have attached a screen print of a problem a faced when making up the VI I attached. Why can’t I wire directly to the Index Array that is in the For Loop in my VI… I had to go throw a shift register to make up the example. When going back to my original program I couldn’t use the index array a second time (screen shot). Thanks a lot for any help, Regards, User

Ways to make a Realignment run faster in DP in background job
Hello:
We have to Realign some characteristics sometimes and it takes a really long time (over 40 seconds per record). Sometimes we might have a couple thousand records to Realign and its a drain on the system and time consuming for the user. Are there any parameters that can be tweaked to make this run more efficiently and faster in the background? My BI person has compressed and indexed the database, but it only saved a couple seconds per record.
Should I ask the Basis team to help out? I'm not sure if this is their area of expertise or not.
Thanks!
AndreaPawan:
Thanks for suggesting this Note. We can definitely reduce the amount of data in the Realignment. We have 6 years of data in the cube, but only show 3 years online in APO. I think we will purge some old data and see if it runs faster. Also, our Basis team is looking at LiveCache parameters to see if any can be tweaked to increase the runtime of the job.
Best Regards,

My MAC is starting to run slow and I was wondering what are some ways (besides rebuild it) to make it faster? I don't have many files and programs but it is slow. I am an advanced user but I am not that good with the Linux commands etc. So if anything is command line would you please type them out.
Thanks for any help.Thank but I think it is a little more than that. I dont have many things running. I have most closed and it is still very slow. This Laptop is only a year old. i only have two apps open but it is still slow.
Thanks -

Tips and Tricks to make STP 2 run faster?
I'm working with STP 2 for the first time and it runs very slow despite my new computer. I don't remember having this problem in Pro Tools with a much slower computer. I'm wondering what I can do to improve the performance...
When a multitrack projects is exported from FCP to STP, is the video shown as a proxy size? I'm editing at full resolution 1080 in FCP w/ no problems, and I'm wondering if that's my problem in STP... or if the video in STP automatically has a reduced proxy resolution?
I have about 26 tracks right now w/ various effects... do I need to condense the number of tracks to speed things up or is there anything else I can do to improve performance?Thank you for your insight. I did everything you said, except double my 4GB of RAM to 8GB, which I'm sure would help if I had the money right now. And my media is on a separate internal drive rather than an external drive and I'm restarting and quitting FCP first. I have a couple of follow up questions...
Is there a way to clear or reduce STP cache files as you go w/o restarting?
Also, I'm wondering if anyone has an answer for my other question: when a multitrack project is exported from FCP to STP, is the video shown as a proxy size? I'm editing at full resolution 1080 in FCP w/ no problems, and I'm wondering if that's my problem in STP... or if the video in STP automatically has a reduced proxy resolution?
For no apparent reason, some of my audio tracks do not play back. They don't seem to be turned off, but maybe there's something else. When I move the audio files to another track they work fine. Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Thanks for your help! -
How to make GUI application run fast and use less memory?
Hi, there,
My GUI application have:
Menu, toolbar, filechooser, JTable, and log panel.(There is not much file io operation)
When I run it in my machine, it is so slow, and if I run several times, close it after each run, it will run out of my memory. I am using PII266MMX, 256RAM. (When I run another software, such as flashfxp, GUI of which is more complicated than mine, however it is far faster than mine, but I don't think it is written in JAVA), Is JAVA's GUI desktop application not fast?
Regardless hardware factors, what should I pay attention to writing an efficient GUI application?
Can anybody give some advice?
Thanks a lot, thanks .....Thank you, Denis.
I can run several times of this applicaiton in another machine: PIII866, 256M RAM (windows 2000). I didn't encounter the memory problem, I can open serveral windows of it with that machine.
Why I met this problem in this old machine, I alway get memory not enough problem.(this old machine comes with Win98). Both of machines have same memory(256M).
Could you please give me some hint?
Thanks,
Sitai
