Make my Program read/write to a local file

Hello,
I'm new to java but I have a workable program. I am trying to make the program read/write to a file. Right now all of my information is stored temp. so when my program crashes all of the info is lost. So if I could have it read/write to a local file then the information wouldn't get lost. Can someone please help me with this?
Thanks

  • What is the best software programs that I can use to read, write and modify data / files on external HD (NTFS format i.e.  Windows) ?

    Hi guys,
    I’m new to Mac and have a MacBook Pro Lion OS (10.6.8 I think !!!) with Parallels 7 (Windows 7) installed. Can someone please tell me what is the best software program that I can use to read, write and modify data / files on external HD (NTFS format) from the Mac OS ? I heard of Paragon and Tuxera NTFS. Are they free ? Are they good ? Are there any other software programs out there ? I heard that some people have issues with Paragon.
    Thanks.

    Your best bet would be to take the drive to the oldest/compatible with that drive Windows PC and grab the files off, right click and format it exFAT (XP users can download exFAT from Microsoft) and then put the files back on.
    Mac's can read and write all Windows files formats except write to NTFS (and in some cases not read) so if you can change the format of the drive to exFAT (all data has to be remove first) then you will have a drive that doesn't require paid third party NTFS software (a license fee goes to Microsoft) for updates.
    Also it's one less hassle to deal with too.

  • Can TestStand open, read, write and close binary files?

    From a TestStand sequence, I need to open, read, write and close binary files. Does TestStand support this capability?

    Christine -
    In the past I have used the C/C++ Adapter to call directly into the CVI RTE functions. The CVI functions I have used are OpenFile, WriteFile and CloseFile. The functions are exported from the DLL as CVI_OpenFile, CVI_WriteFile, and CVI_CloseFile. I just had to make sure that on termination of the sequence, that the integer handle was properly released by calling the close function.
    If you are using LabVIEW, you could call directly into the low level VIs to do a similar set of operations.

  • [Solved] PKGBUILD for a Wine driven program - read&write permissions

    Hello everybody,
    I have stumbled upon a tricky problem when following these guidelines: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wi … bin_script My problem is: The program needs to read a big folder which should stay in /opt and ist linked to ~/. Copying instead of linking is not an option due to big file size. However, the big folder has a small subfolder which should have write access for the user. Any hints on how to manage this?
    Thanks for any hints,

    edit: Problem solved by creating the big directory in ~/, then linking all subdirectories with read access only and copying all subdirectories with read&write access.

    In system preferences on both macbook's , you need to go to file sharing and making sure it's on for both ,click on options and enable smb for windows. follow instructions. I am assuming that the external drive has windows formate on it.

    Hello everybody,
    I have a question about reading , writing and save something into a file (etc text file)
    For example: I want to create a file of football in which there are many key words as: "football", "touch down", "quarterback", "ball", "linebacker", "coach", "player"...
    Now i want to open to read, write one more word "head" ( synonym with "coach") and store it for using next time. How could i do that?
    Could anybody help me about that?

  • Read & Write all folders and files

    How do I allow another account user read & write privileges to all my files and folders? I have set the other user as an administrator however each file and folder that i've copied into their documents folder still need to be changed individually (through the Get Info window) in order to save changes or add new files to them. This is very time consuming, so is there an easier way?

  • Problem loading swf which reads data in a local file

    Hi,
    Using flex with a online project, I have to load a swf file, which reads data in a xml file (it works fine if I open it with flash player)
    I do a very simple test :
    <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
                    layout="absolute"
                    minWidth="955" minHeight="600"
                    >
        <mx:SWFLoader id="swfloader" source="data/player.swf"/>
    </mx:Application>
    The result is that player.swf can't read the xml file (error : Error #2044: ioError non pris en charge : text=Error #2032: Erreur de flux. URL: enonce.xml).
    I do the same test with an AIR project, and it works fine !!!!
    It works also if I put the xml file directly at the same level as my compiled application (in bin-debug for instance).
    I think that it's a path problem, but I don't know how to set it.
    Is there any way to solve the problem ???
    Thanks a lot !
    Olivier

    Hi,
    Thanks for your answer, but I am not sure to understand it.
    What code I have to adjust :
    - the code of the swf I load ? It's a problem because I don't have access to the source code : my customer provides me only a swf file (with the xml file), and I have a lot of others swf files that work the same way, I can't ask him to modify everything.
    - the code of my application ? I don't really see how to use LoaderUtil.createAbsoluteURL, because when I debug, I see in the SWFLoader code that when this method is called, the returned url is good !
    Thanks for your help.

  • ADF Mobile: Read-write access to local DB using SQLite

    I am developing an android mobile app using ADF Mobile. To create the .db file i am choosing the location as
                String Dir = AdfmfJavaUtilities.getDirectoryPathRoot(AdfmfJavaUtilities.ApplicationDirectory);
                String connStr = "jdbc:sqlite:" + Dir + "/CONTRACTS.db";
    The problem is that when i want to access this db from another app, it gives read-only permission. I am unable to perform any write operations.
    Can someone suggest how to change these permissions OR give an alternate path to save the .db file(perhaps, a directory)....that could be common to both the apps?
    -Thanks in advance

    Hi.
    There is no straightforward way to accomplish this even with a standard iOS or Android application. Some hacks exist for each platform, but could result in weaker security in some cases. My recommendation would be to have separate databases for each application, and to implement server-side synchronization mechanisms for data that must be shared between the two. That said, you didn't say much about your use case. Care to provide a bit more detail?

  • What's the best way to read/write data from a file (preferably a *.txt file)?

    As in the title.  l have revived a couple of old VIs to read and write three numbers and a 1D array of clusters to/from a *.txt file.  The functionality is not very user friendly, and it would also be useful if one could open the text files (manually - not through LabVIEW) and still be able to see/understand what was there.
    I was wondering if anyone would be able to come up with a more efficient and/or user friendly method (compatible with lv6.1)

    My primary goal is to have something that works and is easy and comprehensive to operate.  Generating a human-readable file is just a bonus but would be nice if it could be achieved.
    I enclose pictures of the initial file dialog (for both loading and saving the data - referred to as Spec(s) from hence forth), and of the front panel screen seen when  a) loading a spec and  b) saving a spec.  In the file dialog, you have to already know the exact string to input else you'll just be told the file doesn't exist (applies for both loading and saving).  When saving a spec, you cannot see any files previously saved, nor even any previous specs saved within the file.  This means that one can unwittingly overwrite specs without realising it.
    I'm not sure if I've explained this very well, but the current functionality means that far too much can go wrong.  Additionally, if you forget the file name, you'll have no way of knowing what it should be (the data files are stored on a 'locked' part of our network accessible only by Admin or through the LabVIEW executable

  • How do a make a file permanent read/write?

    I have a file shared on the server and when someone accesses it it changes the ownership to them and makes the file read-only to everyone else (that person uses XP). I want to make it permanent read/write. What is the command to do this in terminal?

    If the file is in a share point managed by the server you will need to use 'Server Admin.app' to set up the ACL's.

  • Windows Server 2012 - Hyper-V - iSCSI SAN - All Hyper-V Guests stops responding and extensive disk read/write

    We have a problem with one of our deployments of Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V with a 2 node cluster connected to a iSCSI SAN.
    Our setup:
    Hosts - Both run Windows Server 2012 Standard and are clustered.
    HP ProLiant G7, 24 GB RAM, 2 teamed NIC dedicated to Virtual Machines and Management, 2 teamed NIC dedicated to iSCSI storage. - This is the primary host and normaly all VMs run on this host.
    HP ProLiant G5, 20 GB RAM, 1 NIC dedicated to Virtual Machines and Management, 2 teamed NIC dedicated to iSCSI storage. - This is the secondary host that and is intended to be used in case of failure of the primary host.
    We have no antivirus on the hosts and the scheduled ShadowCopy (previous version of files) is switched of.
    iSCSI SAN:
    QNAP NAS TS-869 Pro, 8 INTEL SSDSA2CW160G3 160 GB i a RAID 5 with a Host Spare. 2 Teamed NIC.
    Switch:
    DLINK DGS-1210-16 - Both the network cards of the Hosts that are dedicated to the Storage and the Storage itself are connected to the same switch and nothing else is connected to this switch.
    Virtual Machines:
    3 Windows Server 2012 Standard - 1 DC, 1 FileServer, 1 Application Server.
    1 Windows Server 2008 Standard Exchange Server.
    All VMs are using dynamic disks (as recommended by Microsoft).
    Updates
    We have applied the most resent updates to the Hosts, WMs and iSCSI SAN about 3 weeks ago with no change in our problem and we continually update the setup.
    Normal operation
    Normally this setup works just fine and we see no real difference in speed in startup, file copy and processing speed in LoB applications of this setup compared to a single host with 2 10000 RPM Disks. Normal network speed is 10-200 Mbit, but occasionally
    we see speeds up to 400 Mbit/s of combined read/write for instance during file repair
    Our Problem
    Our problem is that for some reason all of the VMs stops responding or responds very slowly and you can for instance not send CTRL-ALT-DEL to a VM in the Hyper-V console, or for instance start task manager when already logged in.
    Symptoms (i.e. this happens, or does not happen, at the same time)
    I we look at resource monitor on the host then we see that there is often an extensive read from a VHDX of one of the VMs (40-60 Mbyte/s) and a combined write speed to many files in \HarddiskVolume5\System Volume Information\{<someguid and no file extension>}.
    See iamge below.
    The combined network speed to the iSCSI SAN is about 500-600 Mbit/s.
    When this happens it is usually during and after a VSS ShadowCopy backup, but has also happens during hours where no backup should be running (i.e. during daytime when the backup has finished hours ago according to the log files). There is however
    not that extensive writes to the backup file that is created on an external hard drive and this does not seem to happen during all backups (we have manually checked a few times, but it is hard to say since this error does not seem leave any traces in event
    viewer).
    We cannot find any indication that the VMs themself detect any problem and we see no increase of errors (for example storage related errors) in the eventlog inside the VMs.
    The QNAP uses about 50% processing Power on all cores.
    We see no dropped packets on the switch.
    (I have split the image to save horizontal space).
    Unable to recreate the problem / find definitive trigger
    We have not succeeded in recreating the problem manually by, for instance, running chkdsk or defrag in VM and Hosts, copy and remove large files to VMs, running CPU and Disk intensive operations inside a VM (for instance scan and repair a database file).
    Questions
    Why does all VMs stop responding and why is there such intensive Read/Writes to the iSCSI SAN?
    Could it be anything in our setup that cannot handle all the read/write requests? For instance the iSCSI SAN, the hosts, etc?
    What can we do about this? Should we use MultiPath IO instead of NIC teaming to the SAN, limit bandwith to the SAN, etc?

    Hi,
    > All VMs are using dynamic disks (as recommended by Microsoft).
    If this is a testing environment, it’s okay, but if this a production environment, it’s not recommended. Fixed VHDs are recommended for production instead of dynamically expanding or differencing VHDs.
    Hyper-V: Dynamic virtual hard disks are not recommended for virtual machines that run server workloads in a production environment
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee941151(v=WS.10).aspx
    > This is the primary host and normaly all VMs run on this host.
    According to your posting, we know that you have Cluster Shared Volumes in the Hyper-V cluster, but why not distribute your VMs into two Hyper-V hosts.
    Use Cluster Shared Volumes in a Windows Server 2012 Failover Cluster

    > 2 teamed NIC dedicated to iSCSI storage.
    Use Microsoft MultiPath IO (MPIO) to manage multiple paths to iSCSI storage. Microsoft does not support teaming on network adapters that are used to connect to iSCSI-based storage devices. (At least it’s not supported until Windows Server 2008 R2. Although
    Windows Server 2012 has built-in network teaming feature, I don’t article which declare that Windows Server 2012 network teaming support iSCSI connection)
    Understanding Requirements for Failover Clusters

    > I have seen using MPIO suggests using different subnets, is this a requirement for using MPIO
    > or is this just a way to make sure that you do not run out of IP adressess?
    What I found is: if it is possible, isolate the iSCSI and data networks that reside on the same switch infrastructure through the use of VLANs and separate subnets. Redundant network paths from the server to the storage system via MPIO will maximize availability
    and performance. Of course you can set these two NICs in separate subnets, but I don’t think it is necessary.
    > Why should it be better to not have dedicated wireing for iSCSI and Management?
    It is recommended that the iSCSI SAN network be separated (logically or physically) from the data network workloads. This ‘best practice’ network configuration optimizes performance and reliability.
    Check that and modify cluster configuration, monitor it and give us feedback for further troubleshooting.

  • Is it possible to read/write to text file without deleting it?

    I know how to read from a text file and how to write to a text file. The problem that i have is i need to use a text file to store data for my application to read and also for my application to write. I would like it if i could write two programs really, one reads, the other is used to update the text file. This file is a list of verbs. I thought about using databases but i couldn't get them to work. I downloaded MySQL server 5.0 and installed it. I then downloaded the driver from http://www.mysql.com/products/driver and ran the auto installer. it said everything worked out perfectly but when i try these lines:
    Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
    I get a SQLException that says no suitible driver
    Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    ( I thought this driver came with the JDK but i guess not, i just read about it in a java book)
    I get a ClassNotFoundException
    that just says sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver
    So yeah, SQL is pretty much not working. I need a solution to my problem, either by using text files, or a different type of database. I heard you could use excel to create a database but i have no idea how and i hear microsoft access could also do this, however i don't have microsoft access and i don't intend on paying for it. So, here are my questions:
    1st, is there a tutorial on using excel databases in java programs
    (if not)
    2nd is there a way to read/write/update a text file without deleting it?
    (if not)
    3rd is there a way to get SQL working, i have windows vista this could be the problem
    (if not)
    4th what could i do to store information on the hd for reading and modifying later?
    thanks, lateralus

    A database might be overkill just for a list of words.
    Thoughts:
    <ul>
    <li>What is the extent of your "file updating"? If you are just appending to the file, opening it in append mode will keep the file from being clobbered.</li>
    <li>Otherwise, why not create new files instead of editting them? The file names could include a version number or timestamp, allowing the reader to select the newest one.
    </li>
    </ul>

  • Additional read-write schema in logical standby

    Hi,
    We have successfully configured logical standby for a production database on oracle 11.1.0.7. Now we have the following requirements:
    1) Add a new/ additional schema to logical standby database which can support read write (dml/ddl)operations.
    2) Turn off the sync for one particular table in the standby (prod) schema and make it read write.
    Appreciate any guidelines in this regard.
    Thanks,

    Thank you.
    I was able to make a table read-write based on following extract from oracle documentation.
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE STOP LOGICAL STANDBY APPLY;
    Database altered.
    SQL> EXECUTE DBMS_LOGSTDBY.SKIP('SCHEMA_DDL','MYSCHEMA','MYTABLES%');
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> EXECUTE DBMS_LOGSTDBY.SKIP('DML','MYSCHEMA','MYTABLES%');
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE START LOGICAL STANDBY APPLY;
    Database altered.
    The example then queries the DBA_LOGSTDBY_PARAMETERS view to verify the logical standby database is updated. Verification can take a while so you might need to repeat the query until no rows are returned, as shown in the following example:
    SQL> SELECT VALUE FROM DBA_LOGSTDBY_PARAMETERS WHERE NAME = 'GUARD_STANDBY';
    VALUE
    Ready
    select guard_status from v$database;
    Finally, the example sets the database guard to allow updates to the tables.
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE GUARD STANDBY;
    Database altered.
    select guard_status from v$database;

  • Read/write Java float[]

    I'm looking for the quickest and most effecient way to read/write a float array (float[]) to file in a raw binary fashion.
    In C I would do...
    float fp = (float )malloc(sizeof(float)*nfloats);
    // ... populate fp
    int file = open("filename.bin", O_CREAT|O_WRONLY|O_TRUNC);
    write(file, (void *)fp, sizeof(float)*nfloats);
    close(file);
    (forgive the lack of error checking etc. - for explanation purposes only)
    So if in Java I have a...
    float[] fp;
    How dow I read/write fp to a file in a similar way?
    Many thanks!

    The easiest to program is java.net.DataInputStream.readFloat().
    The most efficient is probably java.nio.FloatBuffer.get(), followed by java.nio.ByteBuffer.getFloat().
