Make oracle_sid permanent

Hi,
I am setting up a database. I have ORACLE_SID to prod. I made the change in /etc/oratab like this
prod:/app01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0:N
But still every time I open up a putty session, when I type sqlplus it says command not found. I have to set up the . oraenv every time. It will ask for the SID name and if I supply prod, it will automatically takes the ORACLE_HOME from the oratab. I want to make the SID also permanent. How?. For now this is the only instance that is going to be in this server.
Thank you.

Lindam, I also added the script in the .profile file which is in /home/oracle dir. But still I don't have it. I have to run . oraenv to set the envr vars. What is your default shell? Exactly what OS are you using? the proper profile file may not be ".profile" but ".bash_profile".
And as Linda said, it is only executed at connection time. Simply putting something in it doesn't have any immediate effect. After you make changes to it, you either need to log off and log back on, or "source" it with the following command:
$> . .profileNote that syntax is "dot, space, filename"
Also important to remember, that only controls the current session. And it does not get executed for stuff launched by cron. Scripts launched by cron need to include this syntax :
. /home/oracle/.profileAgain note the 'dot, space, filename' syntax.

  • Page not displayed correctly BUT pressing CTRL+F5 displays correctly can I make a permanent fix ?

I Think all the info you need is contained in my question as the problem is solved by pressing CTRL+F5 but what I want to do is make a permanent fix.
This problem only occurs in FF4, never had it in any previous version of firefox which I have been using for the last 5 years.
Plusnet and E-bay are examples of pages that fail to load correctly.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode

Also make sure that you allow Firefox in the firewall. You may need to remove all rules for Firefox in the firewall and let the firewall ask again for permission.

  • How can I make a permanent change in the zoom level?

I want to know how I can make a permanent change is the zoom level? I dont want to constantly have to change it from the default value of 100% every time I go to a different page. Thanks.

    Hello,
You can also use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2592/ NoSquint] add-on to change the default zoom level for all websites at once. After setting your global zoom level, you can fine-tune the zoom on individual sites and set the options so that NoSquint remembers per-site settings.
After installing NoSquint, go to the add-ons page to set the per-site settings:
    * Tools (or [[Image: New Fx Menu]]) > Add-ons > Extensions
    * Click the "Options" button by NoSquint

  • How to lock the Properties bar to a toolbar or in some other way, make it permanently open?

How to lock the Properties bar to a toolbar or in some other way, make it permanently open?
Or can that checkbox 'keep tool selected' be made a permanent toolbar item?
I use the rubber stamp tool several times on multiple pages in certain pdfs and found that if I open the 'properties bar', I can select 'keep tool selected' and stamp away as much as I like without having to choose the stamp tool dropdown menu and select 'custom' each time I stamp. I appreciate the recent update that added a recently stamped stamps area and not having to click 'proceed' each time.

You can't lock the Properties Bar, but you also don't need to in order to make the Stamp tool remain selected.
Just right-click it in the Comment menu on the right and select "Keep Tool Selected".

  • NAS: How to make a Permanent Change in Terminal

    Hello everyone,
After months of frustration trying to get my old FSG 3 Freecom Nas to work in OSX Lion, I finally discovered something that is helping.  I can now see my NAS drive under Lion, but the fix is only temporary and I'm looking for a way to make it permanent using Terminal (or any other method).
    I basically read this article:
    http://twasink.net/2012/04/12/fixing-smb-issues-with-osx-lion/
    and the terminal command:
    sudo sysctl -w net.smb.fs.kern_deprecatePreXPServers=0
allows me to see and connect to my NAS, but after a reboot, connectivity disappears and I have to do it again.   In order to make the fix permanent, the article suggests editing the file /etc/sysctl.conf
this file just doesn't exist on my machine under Lion...
Could someone help with instructions as to what I would need to do in Terminal (or any other way) to create and add this command into the file to make this a permanent fix????
    Thank you so much

  • How to make a permanent change to AW margins

I had to do a erase and re-install for leopard.
I had changed the margins so that they were a permanent change but the re-install brought be back to the original default settings.
I can not find any notes how I did it, and there is nothing under margins in a "missing manual' that mentions it.
Can someone remind me of the way to make the change permanently,
obviously I can do it each time using document but its annoying.

    Hi Greg,
    You wrote:
+My template is: Appleworks WP Options.cwk (WP) as a header,+
By the above, I assume you mean that when you open the 'template' in AppleWorks, the document's Title Bar says "AppleWorks WP Options.cwk (WP)". This would indicate that you saved the file as a document rather than a template. A template would open as "untitled (WP)".
+I can not tell what the template enclosed box (starting points) says : Appleworks WP.+
I don't know what you mean by "the template enclosed box (starting points)".
I tried the get info Command + i , but the info window would not appear.
I did it with a click for the new template and tried clicking info with a new page,
Where were you when you did this? From your description above, you seem to be in AppleWorks, with a document open.
Get Info is a menu item in the Finder's File menu. In the Finder, command-I is a keyboard shortcut for the File > Get info... menu item. That menu item is not available in any ot the AppleWorks modes.
Command-I will produce a Get Info window only if you are in the Finder (the first three items in the Menu Bar will be  Finder File), and have selected a file's icon icon by clicking on it once. When you have selected a file you can go to the File Menu and choose Get Info..., or you can press command-I.
+So obviously I need to convert it to .cws. How do I change from cwk to cws?+
The easiest way is probably to delete the existing file, then recreate the template.
Quit AppleWorks, go to the Finder, Locate and Delete the file.
Launch AppleWorks, Open a new word processor document, Set the margins (and make any other settings that you want as default values in new word processor documents), then go File > Save as...
In the Save as dialogue, click the Template radio button at the bottom right of the dialogue window.
Change the document name from untitled.cws to AppleWorks WP Options.cws
(Appleworks will have changed the .cwk suffix to .cws when you clicked the Template button. The application will also have navigated to the Templates folder, which is where this template must be saved to work correctly.)
    Check that;
—the file name is correct ( AppleWorks WP Options.cws )
—you are in the Templates folder (popup menu below the file name says Templates)
—the Template radio button at the bottom of the dialogue window is selected.
    Then click Save.
The dialogue will close, leaving you in the word processor document. The document's title bar sould still say "untitled (WP)". Go File > Close (or click the red Close button) to close the file. Click *Don't Save* in the alert that warns you that you have not saved the file.
Your new default options are now set, and will apply to any new word processor document you create using any of the four standard procedures:
    1. go File > New > Word processing
    2. press command-N
    3. click the Word processing button in the button bar
    4. click the Word processing button in the Basic pane of Starting Points
+and would that also allow me to use the get info window?+
It will make no change in whether you can use the Get info window. See above.

    Barry

  • I want my bookmarks to remain Alphabetized, but when I make the change in bookmark views it dose not make a permanent change once I exit the menu.

I go into organize bookmarks hit the view menu and choose A to Z which makes the change in that window...But once I leave and go back to the regular bookmark pull down the change has not been saved. They are still a jumble...whats up? How do I make the change permanent?

Sorting Bookmarks in Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks (the Library window) is for temporary display only. You can sort in the Bookmarks Sidebar (Ctrl+B to open or close the Bookmarks Sidebar), by right-clicking on the "Bookmarks Menu" in the sidebar and choose "Sort by Name". You would need to do that each time you add a bookmark.
You can keep them permanently sorted with:

  • Pls, its urgent... change IP,netmask and broadcast on solaris 8- make them permanent after reboot

    Hi,
I want to change an IP and netmask and broadcast of a machine using solaris 8 but after I reboot the changes are lost. The IP is remembered but the netmask and broadcast are lost. In /etc/netmasks the last line has the new netmask that I established, all the lines before this line are comment.
    I do:
    ifconfig bge0 down
    ifconfig bge0 new_IP netmask new_netmask broadcast new_broadcast
    ifconfig bge0 up
It works for the moement, but after I reboot it does not work any more and I have to do it all again. What should I do to make the changes permanent?
    Thank you for your help!
    Serban

To make the netmask permanent and with the result the broadcast as well you need to make changes to the /etc/netmask file.
You say that u have done it but it seems that the entry is not right.
The way to make the entries is to have the proper network no followed by the netmask.Calculate the Network Number based on the IP and netmask and put in the right entries.
    The entry shd be like
    192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0
Which means that for all the IP addresses in the range 192.168.1 would have the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
And i suppose u have the right ip address in the /etc/hosts file.

  • After 15 mins  with no activity my airport express turns off how can I make it permanent

After about 15 mins with no activity my airport express turns off. How can I make it stay on permanently ?

Not sure what you mean by "turns off".  Are you saying that the light on the Express goes out after 15 minutes?
Assuming that it is functioning correctly, the AirPort Express is "always on". It has no type of "sleep" setting.
If the power light on the Express remains on, you have some other device on the network that is going into a standby mode or sleep mode. Check the Preference settings on other devices on the network.

  • How do you make destructive/permanent effects?

I don't know if this is my problem, anyways, as soon as I start running 5 or 6 tracks of Guitar Rig 4 (my VST plugin for guitar) it starts slowing my session down, which is understandable since when I playback, it has to run all 5 of those GR4s on the fly. How do I simply make a VST effect permanent? Or Isn't there some kind of way where I can wait 20 seconds or something before playback to let all the VST effects actually load as oppose to eating up all my memory trying to process the effects DURING playback? My sessions are having a hard time handling the rewire, the midi ezdrummer and now 6 tracks of guitar rig, the playback sounds all sketchy, but my mixdowns obviously sound fine since all the effects are embedded in those tracks. I've just been mic'ing my amp until I figure this problem out.

Assuming that you are using AA3.0, then in the multitrack mixer, just along from the Fx button is the freeze button - that effectively makes any effects on your individual track 'fixed' (effectively does a temporary effected mixdown of the track and uses that) which saves the resources actually having to run as the playback proceeds. Don't worry - it's reversible; just unfreeze if you want to alter anything, and then re-freeze. This should save quite a bit of machine resources, and will improve your playback situation considerably.
The old 'wait 20 seconds' thing was what happened with background mixing in Audition 1.5 and previous versions, and I have to say that this is quite sorely missed by quite a few people. It went when ASIO came along to the exclusion of all else - another mistake.

  • Make tcc permanently accepting a cert

    Hi,
using sgd/ee 4.0 and 4.1 with an own CA cert, we get always popup dialog
    windows for accepting the
cert. Experimenting with the TTA webservices API,
I found, that it comes directly along with calling the method startTcc(),
    so changing
    webtop jsp-s wouldn't help.
The remaining question is, who isn't trusting
whom? It seems, that the tcc client is the one, who asking... aka bother
    the user again and
    again.
Therefore, is there a way to make tcc accepting a certain custom CA
    permanently???
Background about the certs used: the CA cert is created with openssl, the
server certs (for tta and apache) are signed from this CA - again using
openssl - (not self signed!). Both tta server and
apche accepting the couple of server key/cert
    together with the CA cert.

You can set the ca.pem into the execution directory. But I you have

    Two solution to that:
    1) setup a link to your NC and define an own "Execution Directory" in

    2) Append all you ca.pem into on ca.pem file.

  • Double Toolbar - How to Make It Permanent?

I understand how to make the toolbar a double vertical configuration by clicking on the double left arrows. If I stop and restart Photoshop it always comes back to a single column. How do you make this change permanent?

What version of elements and operating system?
As far as i can tell that has to do with your screen resolution in newer versions of elements.
If you have a lower resolution like 1280 x 800 then the toolbox is double row.
If you have a higher screen resolution like 1920 x 1200 then the toolbox is single row.
On windows (pse 10) you might try undocking the toolbox (float the toolbox) and then it seems to stay double row if you have a higher screen resolution.
It works well that way if you use floating window documents, not so good if you use tabs.

  • How can I make location permanent easily

I tag many of my photos with GPS coordinates before bringing them into Lightroom.  When I bring the images into Lightroom, the name of the location (City, State, Country, etc.) appear faintly if the Metadata panel is set to location as shown in the attached image.  I then have to click on each subdivision of the location to bring this information into brighter white and make it part of the image metadata.  This is very time consuming with a lot of images.  If there are several taken with the exact same GPS location, they can all be selected and clicked on, but it's difficult to find the exact same ones.  Is there a faster way of doing this?

Unfortunately, there is not a faster way of doing this.  Many people have complained about this design misfeature; see these threads in the official Adobe feedback forum:
Lightroom: improve control over reverse-geocoded Location metadata
Lightroom 5: problems with GeoTagging and Committing
You could add your vote and opinion to the first thread, but given that the issue has been present for over 3 years, it seems unlikely Adobe will ever fix this.
Many LR users use Geosetter or the Geoencoding Support plugin.

  • Is there a way to make CS6 permanently save in CS5.5 all the time?

At my workplace we're in the middle of upgrading so the users using CS5.5 can't use our CS6 files.
Going Save As every time on everything we work on gets a bit tedious so I was wondering if there was a way to permanently set Flash to save in CS5.5?
    Cheers

Not that I know of, but having lived under the same conditions for about a year... you get used to it.  The good news is you only need to save it back when you're done.  You can save it as a CS6 file all along until the end your last save of the day/period.
