Making a Application Public

Hi Everyone,
In the past I have made some of my application public. By this i mean that the end user does not need to log in, they simply type the URL and the application home page appears.
However i cant remember how i did it :( (its far too early), please could someone explain how this is done.

Making the application cluster-aware

Hi,
          I have just been assigned a multi-tier J2EE application with the task of
          making it "work in a cluster". The earlier architects (if i may use the
          term), just "assumed" that weblogic would provide support for
          high-availability and they would not need to do any code changes.
          So I have this application that has about 100 EJBs - about 40 Entity Beans,
          only two SFSB and the rest are SLSB.
          What would be the best strategy to go about making this application
          cluster-aware?
          I could think of the following points so far:
          1. Identify idempotent methods in all EJBs.
          2. Make all session-stored objects serializable in the web-tier. Make sure
          objects are not too huge to be serialized (don't know if I would be actually
          able to modify - too late for that).
          3. Modify bean descriptors to make them clusterable.
          4. Make web app clusterable.
          5. Look for code that uses non-replicable services (file system access,
          sockets, etc.).
          I'm sure there must be more that I've missed. Anything more that needs to be
          added to the list above? Would there be a scenario where the EJB clients
          (other beans themselves, the web tier, RMI clients, etc) would need to be
          changed?
          I understand identification of idempotent methods would be manual (or is
          not?). But what would be the best way to modify the deployment descriptors
          of all these beans?

Hi Manavendra,
          By default all EJBs are clusterable because the default value of
          <home-is-clusterable/> is true and <stateless-bean-is-clusterable/> default
          is true. For stateful session EJBs, you will have to configure the
          replication type to InMemory as it defaults to none. Unless you have
          specifically added these elements to turn off clustering, they should
          already be clusterable.
          Typically, you will find performance is better if the web app and EJBs are
          deployed in the same JVM, because there are no remote calls. By default
          <enable-call-by-reference/> is set to true which allows arguments to be
          passed by reference rather than copying parameters. If calls are remote,
          then <enable-call-by-reference/> must be false as pass by value will always
          be necessary in this case.

I am just getting into Flex 2, so please forgive me for my
newbe vocab.
Here is how my applications have worked in the past, i.e.

Display the order via HTML and CFML.
getOrder() returns a query and 1234 is a sample orderID. The
most important part of the solution I am looking for is that the it
must not expose my getOrder() as a public web service. I am able to
run the application with WS by making the mothod URL visible and
remote, but this is no way near the security I would like to have.
Here is my folder structure where components folder has been maped
to CF.

| ... ... |__PEK
|__wwwroot
I guest there should be a way to call CFC with the thing
remote object that I have no idea how to set up. So please what
would be a solution to my security issues.

I guess this article answers part of the question. It is very
important to note that if the CFC is sitting on the same server as
the CFC the component methods could be public and not remote, thus
making it alot more secure.

Problem in making air application in full screen on load

Hi all
I am new in flex developing. The problem I m facing in making a air application is that I want to make the application window in full screen view without the top toolbar.
The code i got is like:

But I want this on starting the application. Without any user interface.

Extensions require both native code and ActionScript code and are packed by the native extension compiler by Adobe to an ANE file. Check this tutorial: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/articles/building-ane-ios-android-pt1.html
After compiling the extension, you can put the extensionId into your <extensions> branch in the application.xml and add the .ane as an excluded library into your AS3 project. Then you can use the extension like any other external library (swc file).

Making my application icon/image

Okay, so I've finished making my program and want to give it it's own icon. I have the image I want to use, I know how to open the info and copy and paste into it but I cannot figure out how to make it transparent. Even if the image I'm copying and pasting is transparent it ends up creating a white background when I try to turn it into my application image. I tried making an icon file and succeeded, it has a transparent background and everything but it's still creating a background.
Does anyone know how to do this?

When I make icons I usually use this program.

You might give that a try. I have also had a difficult time in the past with icon backgrounds.
On a side note, if it is an applescript application, I have found that it is actually better to right click on the application then 'show package contents', then rename your icon file "applet.icns" for some reason if I just paste it into the get info section later it will be lost.

There are stories of people making apps who have little programming knowledge, but it would require quite a bit of self teaching to say the least.
The programming language for the iPhone/iPad is Objective C, and knowledge of objective C is required. There are books available and learning objective c is a good starting point.
If you know Objective C then there is a bit of a learning curve with the iPhone SDK software.
If you have an iPhone app idea but no programming abilities then you can always hire a company to build the app for you. Check google for that though.

Need help on making desktop application to web application having individual controls for users at the same time

I have an desktop application and the following are the functionalities of the same.
1. User inputs the data file with path (log file) to parse the required data.
2. Once the user enters the path and starts the tool with start button, the tool parse the required data in terms of records and gives the records (creates output file containing all the useful records).
3. Have popup window to display a group of data.
4. Have popup to Plot graph. When a button is pressed in main GUI, the popup is opened giving scroll bar menus to choose the data for the graph. User after selecting the data (multiple Y axis) press another button to plot the graph. The input to this popup is the output file generated by this tool.
5. The main GUI has buttons (play, step forward, step backward, reverse play, pause, stop, 1st record, last record - like tape recorder buttons) to play the records one by one.
This application is used by many people and since its a desktop application (created in labview 2009), the user every time has to manually install the newer version.
"So it is required to make the application into web based so that, the user can individually access the tool at the same time (different instances same as desktop app) and run their own data files from their system. The output files to be stored in the respective user's system."
Can this be done using Web Publishing or Web Services present in LabView?
I tried using Web Publishing but it gives control to only one user at a time and loading the files from the client path to run the tool is not possible.

If all you are worried about are updates, just put the EXE on a shared network drive and have your users launch it from there.

Making cross application c_bsp_server_side_cookie= set_server_cookie

Has anyone experience with setting cross application cookies?
I did already some tests and discovered that setting the application_name with an own value would establish something, but what about the sessionid? I always thought that the session id was linked to a browser session but it seems to change (also) when one goes from one app to another.
Any ideas?

Yes the Session iD also Changes when u Branch from one Application to another.
The workaround that I have Depl;oyed is to Navigate the Session ID All the Way and Back.
Correct M if Any Other Method Can be Deployed.

I need an advice about how to make an application log over every task succsessfully done to a target with an unique ID.
I have developed an application with several tasks on the menu which have to be done in a certain order to program and test a target board,
and the user want a log about which tasks are done to the target, so it is easy to know which step is next on the menu (It is a very routinebased job).
Do somebody have any good advice on how this can be done in a cleaver way ?

Also, now that I have an ethernet cable, if I go ahead and use migration assistant to transfer the account from my old computer, will Logic only be available through the new account I have set up on my new computer? Would I have to log out of one account and into the other and back and forth to access the different files/programs? Any help would be much appreciated

Making an application the default program to open certain files

Hello,
I have a stupid question that has been bugging me for a long time.
I have installed parallels to use windows and when i used its office excel, it prompted me if I want to open the files with window's excel; which I did. Then now everytime I open an excel file on my mac HD, it starts parallels to launch its excel to open. I tried the option of open with "other" and select my mac's excel but this only applies on the particular file. I uninstalled parallels to avoid this problem and it still tries to locate parallel's excel which no longer exists.
So I have everytime to select the file and use the open with option which is very unpractical.
This applies for any other application so is there an effective way to change the "default" application that opens certain files? There must be a way to do that!!!!

Do the following:
1. Click once on any Excel file.
2. From the menubar select File->Get Info
3. In the "Open with" section click on the drop down menu and select the Microsoft Excel, ensuring it's the Apple Mac version that's located in your Applications folder. If it's not listed, select "other" and then navigate to the application.
4. Click on the "Change All" button and confirm.
That's it. Everytime you double click on that file type, it will open in the Application of your choice.

Sql Developer is working very slow and it's making other applications slow

I am using SQL Developer 1.5.1.54.40.
Sometimes it hangs. Sometimes the space key doesn't work in the sql sheet.It's overall performance is slow. And i have found it slows down other applications to open and close. I have 1GB RAM.
Please tell me is it the problem of SQL Developer or my PC?

I have seen the "Automatically Check for Updates" option significantly slow down the start of up SQL Developer when it is switched on. You might want to see if switching that off (Tools > Preferences > Extensions) makes a difference to start up time.
SQL Developer's not insignificant memory usage may cause problems if it takes you beyond your physical memory, which typically slows down opening, closing and switching between applications. This is when you need to look at the task manager (assuming windows) as per the previous suggestion.

Hello, I have some experience with Java, I have programmed in it for two years and I was wondering how I would be able to create windows applications coding in Java. Well, I just wanted to learn to make windows applications, like lets say notepad, or winzip, simple applications. I guess just make executable files, .exe files. I dont know how else to explain it. I have had some experience with GUIs but I dont want to have a piece of code that runs only through eclipse or some other JDK.
