Making a photo gallery

I am having trouble with actionscript. I am making a photo
gallery and my buttons and layout are just dandy everything's
looking fine. The buttons do nothing, and i know i need
actionscript to make it work but i have no idea how to even begin.
I have what i want the buttons to show made in a movie clip I just
need to know how to how to have the clip come up and be centered
when clicked. Please help me.

depends on whether you are using AS3 or AS2.
either way, however, you're looking to work with "event
handlers"
onRelease()
onPress()
onRollOver()
onRollOut()
etc...
so in AS2, if you have a button named "test_b" on your main
timeline, you would assign an action like this...
test_b.onRelease = function() {
trace("this is a test to see if this button works.");
AS3's event handlers are a little different.

  • Making a photo Gallery in Flash cs4

    Is there an easy way to make a cool looking, interactive photo gallery that i can insert into my website usuing flash?

    The safest answer to give you is... no, there is no easy way for you to make a cool looking interactive photo gallery.   To achieve whatever it is you consider cool looking and interactive requires understanding how to design with Flash and Actionscript.  Your best bet for getting a start on making one is to search Google using search terms like... "AS3 gallery tutorial" and add in any other terms that represent what you want.

  • Creating a photo gallery with upload feature.

    I am making a photo gallery for my website. I think it would be cool to allow the upload of images to the server. I will make the gallery search for images in the folder on the server and display them, but that is not my problem. My problem is how to allow them to upload. I have been to many sites unnseccessfully. Are there any good tutorials on how to do this and how to make the server  side script. And, if possible, can i do it with out a script on the server?

    Welcome Alex  -
    Any picture you display on your site can be saved to the visitor's computer.
    If you ZIP each gallery, a simple link to the zipped archive will offer the visitor
    an option to save to their computer.

  • Making a beautiful spry photo gallery

    I'm trying to make a photo album like the one on adobe's spry
    sample photo album page here,
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/demos/gallery/index.html
    But I haven't been able to find any tutorials to do such a
    thing, so I've resorted to cutting and pasting code, which is a
    really bad idea for me since I'm new to web design and for me
    understanding java script is harder than understanding the female
    psyche.
    At any rate, this is what I've been able to do so far for my
    wife's retail site:
    http://paxbaby.com/photoalbum.htm
    If anybody feels ready and able to take on the challenge, I
    have 3 real problems I haven't been able to figure out: first, how
    to make the big pictures fade in and out like on Adobe's sample
    page; second, how to make the thumbnails grow and shrink in front,
    not behind, the other thumbnails, and third, how to make the
    thumbnails grow and shrink from their center point, not from their
    upper left corners.
    I'd love it if anyone is willing to help me out with this --
    and if you have any other pointers on my site there, I'm all
    ears!

    I've set up the photo gallery demo -china,paris,egypt- and
    made a swap of a couple of my photos from in Dreamweaver's property
    box src for thumbs, and link for the large pic. It works in Safari
    and Opera but not in firefox and I don't know about IE as I'm on a
    MAC and not that for into it yet.Is there something to look for in
    the code? It shows no browser issues when I test for compatability?
    I'd really like to use the xml version but I have tried and had no
    luck except in Safari.

  • Making a web gallery type photo viewer in encore

    Ay guys,
    so I'm relatively new with the whole encore thing. I know enough that I can make menu's, buttons, put in animations etc. the basics really.
    I'm wondering if theres a way to make one of my menu's a photo gallery kind of like this one
    http://www.filebuzz.com/software_screenshot/full/49904-FlexiGallery__XML_Flash_Image_Galle ry.gif
    Where the small ones at the bottoms are thumbnails and when clicked show up in the bigger one up top.
    i know photoshop has the ability to make web galleries but i wasn't sure if or how they could transfer over.
    Thanks and any info is greatly appreciated.
    Cheers.

    For a Photo Gallery, I think that you will want to look a Adobe Bridge, Adobe Lightroom, and finally for publishing, Adobe Dreamweaver.
    Encore is a DVD/BD authoring program, and other than creating a DVD Flash, it will be pretty limited, doing what you want to do. You would end up with a very Menu-heavy Project (only get 1GB of Menus and navigation), and then is more suited for Flash Video on a Web page. You could possibly construct something, but it would be rather of a kludge, and also fairly limited. With those other Adobe programs, you will have much more latitude and far greater flexibility.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

    I'd recommend linking your flex app to a PHP file, it'll automatically handle all the photos for you without you having to embed them all. Keeps the app size small and lets you add more pictures without having to alter any code. Here's the example code of a very simply image gallery that i'd build on if i was making a photogallery.
    Flex:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute" applicationComplete="getPictures.send()">
        <mx:HTTPService id="getPictures" url="getPictures.php" method="POST" showBusyCursor="true"/>
        <mx:TileList dataProvider="{getPictures.lastResult.Pictures}" width="500" height="500" x="349" y="129">
            <mx:itemRenderer>
                <mx:Component>
                    <mx:Image width="200" height="200" source="{data.imagePath}"/>
                </mx:Component>
            </mx:itemRenderer>
        </mx:TileList>
    </mx:Application>
    PHP:
    <?php
        foreach (glob("*.png") as $filename)
            print "<Pictures><imagePath>".$filename."</imagePath></Pictures>";
    ?>

  • Need dynamic Photo Gallery

    Hi
    I am new, not expert in flash. Knows only basic flash action
    scripting, can any body guide me about dynamic flash photo gallery.
    How can import images in flash from database.
    please help me, I need that urgently, all suggestions are
    welcome.
    Regards
    Harish

    Hey harish ... unfortunately, developing with flash has some
    serious trade-offs. The benefit is making a rich user experience.
    However, data integration can often be a much more involved
    process. Here are some suggestions for you.
    With .net you could publish a webservice. Flash has built a
    built in component for consuming webservices.
    Your .net guy should know what a webservice is and how to
    implement it.
    Alternatively, you could have a server side script that, when
    called, spits back an xml representation of the data you want to
    put into flash.
    for example:
    <root>
    <pic1 title="pic1Title" uri="/pics/pic1" ... />
    <pic2 ... />
    </root>
    or however you want to form your xml.
    Flash has built in support for consuming xml in this way
    through the xmlconnector component or even just the xml
    class.
    It would be nice if there was a built in way to communicate
    directly with databases.
    Flash wanted to make their product vendor nuetral so as far
    as I know, there is no way to make a connection directly with a
    database with flash out of the box.
    I know there are third party addons you can purchase that
    will help you do that as another option as well.
    One thing that has worked well for me in situations similar
    to what you are discussing is using the apache xindice database
    combined with the xml class in flash.
    The xindice database is an open source project.
    It is a database designed specifically to store xml
    documents.
    http://xml.apache.org/xindice/
    I use java and xindice is built in java, but it has two
    api's. One for developers writing in javaee and one for developers
    writing in other languages.
    Or hey, you could always drop a few grand on coldfusion :-)
    Probably not the answers you want, but I hope it helps
    anyway.

  • Photo gallery with buttons and php.

    I am relatively new to actions script, very new to as3, and brand new to php. I have tried very hard to figure all of this out via tutorials, studying the code, etc but now I'm running out of time to get this done so I need some help.
    I am trying to make a photo gallery that functions as follows:
    -the php gathers all of the filenames from a folder and returns it to flash
    -an array of buttons is loaded onto the stage (one for each photo)
    -flash then loads the first image into a movie clip.
    -when the user clicks on button[i], image[i] loads in the movie clip.
    -i also plan to incorporate what might happen if the number of photos exceeds the number of buttons that can fit nicely on the stage, like an arrow to go to another set of buttons. I haven't tried coding this yet since I was just trying to get the thing to work in general first. If anyone has ideas about this, let me know.
    Please don't make fun of me too much. I know it's probably a mess.
    Thank you so much in advance for your help.

    var i:Number
    var photo_btn:Array = new Array();
    for (i = 0; i < listLength; i++); {

    if (photo_btn[i].mouseDown == true) {
    img_loader.load(imageArray[i])
    if (i == 0)  {

    photo_btn[i].x = 411.5
    else if (i > 0 && i < 24); {
    photo_btn[i].y = 422.7;

    if (i > 24 && i < listLength); {
    photo_btn[i].y = 442.7;
    photo_btn[i].x = (photo_btn[i-1].x + 18.6);
    img_loader.load(imageArray[0]);

    As for AS3 part of it, I am not sure your code really works. There are syntax and logical errors there.
    I think you need to take it step by step and accomplish several task in the following sequences:
    1. Write code that loads XML correctly;
    2. Write code that enables buttons;
    3. Write code that will load images on button clicks.
    The code below shows in principal what needs to be done in order to load XML and make the data in this XML available for further consumption. Also, by accomplishing this step you will iron out all the PHP vs Flash wrinkles including your XML.
    Please note, I don't know your XML structure so all the parsing issues you need to resolve yourself.
    Once you get handle on it - we, hopefully, will talk about steps 2 and 3.
    import flash.display.Loader;
    import flash.events.*;
    import flash.net.*;
    var images:XML;
    var myRequest:URLRequest;
    var myLoader:URLLoader;
    // list of image urls that will come from loaded XML
    var imageList:XMLList;
    myRequest = new URLRequest("Photography.php");
    myLoader = new URLLoader();
    myLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onFileLoaded);
    // suggested handler for unexpected errors - avoids some headaches
    myLoader.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, onLoadError);
    myLoader.load(myRequest);

  • I'm having a problem with inserting a photo gallery created with Bridge

    I sure could use some help.
    Adobe Bridge - Why do I have a white bar on my page?
    I am using windows vista, Dreamweaver cs4 and Adobe bridge to insert a photo gallery.
    I am using an I-frame to embed a photo gallery that was created with Adobe Bridge CS4. Adobe Bridge instructed me to make the i-frame height = 75% of the width. The code is <iframe src="PhotoAlbum/index.html" width="900" height="675" frameborder="0"></iframe>
    my css places the album in #photoalbum.
    #photoAlbum contains the i-frame with the following properties:
    #photoAlbum {
    margin-top: 20px;
    margin-right: auto;
    margin-bottom: 0px;
    margin-left: auto;
    width: 900px;
    text-align: center;
    padding-top: 20px;
    padding-bottom: 20px;
    border-top-width: 2px;
    border-top-style: groove;
    border-top-color: #333;
    I tried changing the width to 960, 900, 850 etc with no success.
    I have tried making the background of #photoAlbum black with no success.
    The link to the photo album is http://www.gigharborrealestate.com/smith/PhotoAlbum/index.html and shows no white bar.
    The site that I am having problems with is http://www.gigharborrealestate.com/smith On the right side of the Point Richmond Photo Gallery is a white vertical bar.  If you go to /PhotoAlbum/index.html there is no white bar.
    Why does this bar show up when /PhotoAlbum/index.html is put into an I-frame? How can I get rid of the vertical bar?

    insert the following into your code,
    scrolling="no"
    it should look like this
    <div id="gallery"><iframe src="IMAGES/Adobe Web Gallery/index.html"  scrolling="no" width="730" height="555" frameborder="0" name="web_gallery" style="background-color: #D8D9B4"></iframe></div>
    hope it helps, good luck

  • Photo gallery / slideshow component using rss

    hi.. i was wondering if anyone can throw some light on this
    issue. i am thinking abt making a simple flash gallery / slideshow
    that will get info from an rss feed (either from flickr or a
    customized Gallery2.0 feed). there is already one at
    www.afcomponents.com, but their support is slow and the product
    layout is not customizable.
    so, does anyone know if another such component? or even
    better, a script that i can work on myself? any thoughts, comments
    and ideas will be greatly appreciated.
    thanks in advance,

    Hello lukeage7,
    I've done a bunch of similar galleries. Are you familiar with
    xml in Flash
    at all? The easiest way is to create an empty movie symbol on
    your stage
    and give it an instance name (placeHolder) for example.
    Create an xml file
    with a list of your image names, and then use loadMovie to
    load the first
    node's image into your placeHolder movie symbol. Then all you
    need to do
    is create a var you can increment to load the 2nd image, 3rd
    image, 4th image
    etc. I can send you a sample if you want.
    That said, I've also used this product and for the low price
    it is pretty
    robust:

  • How to transfer photo gallery with thumbnails from Fireworks?

    Hi
    I am trying to create a website. I am using Dreamweaver CS3
    and for my main homepage I used one of their templates.
    From my main page I give a link to photo gallery. I intend to
    build a gallery in Fireworks as I will need a thumbnails for my
    photos.
    My question is how can I transfer the created gallery to
    Dreamweaver CS3? I need the same template I used for my homepage
    for my gallery?
    Please help!
    Thanks

    Especially if you plan on

    >
    Resize your photos as needed to cut down their size use jpg
    or png format.
    save then in an outside folder.
    next inside the directory you use for your web files create a
    directory
    with either the sme name as the outside folder or name
    desired open that
    directory.
    Open up Dreamweaver and create a Blank HTML page.
    Now go to Commands menu and and choose create web Photo
    album...
    next a menu will pop up and ask directory where images are
    located. Then
    will ask the destination directory browse to the new
    directory you
    created. You will also settings for Thumbnail size and
    whether to use
    captions if you do use captions it will use the file name of
    of each
    image and you will have to go in and edit the caption names
    for the
    photos as desired when everything is setup fireworks will
    takeover and
    create the album. it will create three subdirectories one
    with the full
    size photos , one with the thumbs, and one with the html
    information for
    each photo. Plus three other files in main directory one
    being an html
    file. once completed and Fireworks returns editing back to
    Dreamweaver
    close and don't save the blank html file. the index file
    needed will be
    created by Fireworks.
    open the index file inside you album directory and edit
    cations as needed.
    Remember if you do this you'll need a total of 3 times files
    of the
    photos you use for example.
    if you have 30 photos it will be a total of four directories
    and 93 files.
    for 20 it would be 63 files, for 10 33 files and so on.
    If you need to add photos or take away photos the method is
    to start
    over from scratch and use you FTP program to do a recursive
    delete on
    the directory then re-upload.

  • Vista Photo Gallery Keywords & LR Tricksey

    Assuming that LR 1 handles keywords the same way Beta 4.1 (Should I?), then separating two keywords with a forward slant bar in LR makes a "sub keyword" (What's the correct term for that?)in Photo Gallery. while separating them with a comma just adds two keywords. Is it like that in other organizers?

    SecretPact:
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions and in from the Darkside. . If the keywords are written into the IPTC fields in each photo then iPhoto can read them. But they have to be embedded into each file by Windows Photo Gallery. If you can go back to WPG and see if there's an option to write the metadata to the files and do it, you can reimport them and hopefully get the keywords to import. Try it on one or two photo that did not show the keywords first.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

    As for AS3 part of it, I am not sure your code really works. There are syntax and logical errors there.
    I think you need to take it step by step and accomplish several task in the following sequences:
    1. Write code that loads XML correctly;
    2. Write code that enables buttons;
    Once you get handle on it - we, hopefully, will talk about steps 2 and 3.
    import flash.display.Loader;
    import flash.events.*;
    import flash.net.*;
    var images:XML;
    var myRequest:URLRequest;
    var myLoader:URLLoader;
    // list of image urls that will come from loaded XML
    var imageList:XMLList;
    myRequest = new URLRequest("Photography.php");
    myLoader = new URLLoader();
    myLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onFileLoaded);
    // suggested handler for unexpected errors - avoids some headaches
    myLoader.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, onLoadError);
    myLoader.load(myRequest);
    // Note: all the listeners are removed
    // it is always wise to remove listeners that are needed any longer
    // to make objects eligible for arbage collection
    function onLoadError(e:IOErrorEvent):void
         trace(e.toString());
         myLoader.removeEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onFileLoaded);
         myLoader.removeEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, onLoadError);
    function onFileLoaded(e:Event):void
         myLoader.removeEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onFileLoaded);
         myLoader.removeEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, onLoadError);
         images = new XML(myLoader.data);
         // only now xml is ready and you can start loading images
         imageList= images.pic;

  • Iweb photo gallery question

    I have created an Iweb photo gallery on my website, and I wish to add links to each individual photo so that when a person clicks for the full view of the photo a link will appear somewhere on the page. I want each link to be specific to each photo. I have tried adding captions and making them links, but they don't work, they're un-clickable. Is there any possible way to do this in Iweb?

    There are a number of ways you could add ecommerce to your site. I'm not familiar with the option but if you do a search for ecommerce in this forum you'll get several topics on the subject. Roddy has some very good information at this http://www.musicformusicians.com site.
    This search result has several topics on the subject: http://discussions.apple.com/search.jspa?threadID=&q=ecommerce&objID=f1309&dateR ange=last90days&userID=&numResults=30&rankBy=10001.
