Making Dynamic Text Vertical

I have a php site, from which I would like to be able to
extract a specific record and create a printable postage label.
I have managed the result page with the Dynamic text but the
printer/label configuration means I have to get the text in
vertically (i.e. it would look correct if you looked from the right
side of the page)
I have trawled through the forum but the only reference is
saying that you can only do this with images - Is this
correct?

I would think so, yes.

  • Rotate Dynamic text and make dynamic text go vertical

    Hello
    I am working on a visual customizer flash app in actionscript 2.0. Looking for good tutorials or examples of how to rotate dynamic text as well as how to make it vertical. Currently all the dynamic embedded text changes colors and size.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    distribute each character to a textfield and arrange the textfields to suit your needs.

  • Vertically Centering Dynamic Text

    I am trying to get the text I am loading into a dynamic text
    box vertically aligned. There are from 3 to 8 lines of text that
    load into the dynamic text box via an array. I haven't found
    anything to do this. Can I get a coordinate that tells me the
    height of the loaded in text? Thanks for any help...

    I have the answer to my own question....
    placeText = function(){
    //this first line just creates a variable with the button
    number pushed
    var currentButton = _parent._parent.buttNo;
    //oBox_txt is my dynamic text box
    oBox_txt.autoSize = "center";
    //this line populates the text box with text from an array
    using the predefined
    //variable "currentButton"
    oBox_txt.text = textual[currentButton];
    oBox_txt._y = ((100 - oBox_txt._height) / 2);
    This assumes that the box is at the _y coordinate 0, and that
    the box is 100 pixels high.

  • How to use same dynamic text, multiple times in a Movie

    FLASH CS5.5
    How can a dynamic text field be used multiple times, on any
    frame, in any new layer during a Movie?
    ~~
    A number of unique dynamic text fields are being used.
    The intent is to use them each, many times during a Movie.
    (i.e. a users first name)
    They are successfully being "ExternalInterfaced" from a PDF form field.
    (the SWF is displayed within the PDF as a RMA)
    This all works well, IF I only use one instance of the dynamic text field.
    (one use of each unique text field)
    If I try and use that same dynamic text field, again, in a new layer, later in the SWF,
    all of that said, duplicate dynamic text fields do not display.
    ~~
    Stumped!!!
    Thanks in advance for your advice / comments!

    Thanks Ned,
    I always welcome learning something new.
    I did not know creating a new keyframe,
    creates a new instance.
    Yes, I had used the same dynamic text field instance name in
    numerous, new layers (great observation).
    With the objective to display the User's name throughout
    the timeline (on and off)...
    I'll attempt to paraphrase your solution;
    Use a single layer to display the dynamic text field.
    Extend this layer's timeline throughout the movie, or end use of the dynamic text field.
    Help with this one ??
    Set the visible properties to true or false as need through out the timeline.
    ( Does require an AS3 ? )
    I'll give that a try.....
    ~~
    Side of effect of using the above solution;
    The SWF in it's attempted state, uses the dynamic text field instance, in
    different places, different text sizes, on the stage, throughout the Movie.
    (i.e. the User's first name appears in different sentences...)
    Per the solution above,
    I believe I will be limited to One location, one format setting.
    Is this assumption correct?
    I can make this work from a display / Movie point of view.
    However, your first VAR concept, noted above, might be
    worth exploring should more flexibility be required.
    Thanks for making the time to coach...

  • Can I embed fonts of all Dynamic Text objects in a Flash file?

    Hi there!
    I'm fairly new to Flash, so please bear with me.
    I have created a Flash file which will act as our company's standard presentation / portfolio of all previous projects.  I've pretty much got it running the way I want, but I've just tried it on a few different computers and realised that the fonts aren't embedded.  I've used our corporate font so it needs to look right.  Having read the following documentation (http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/main/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=Liv eDocs_Parts&file=00000893.html) I now understand how to embed fonts for one dynamic text object at a time.  However, I have a lot of different dynamic text objects in the file and I would dearly love to embed them all in one step!  The same embedding options can be applied to just about all objects, as they're all the same size and font.
    I hope someone can help me.  If you are able to help please spell things out in simple steps!!  I am aware that I probably haven't yet grasped a number of the basics of Flash.
    Thanks in advance,
    Stuart

    Static text doesn't need to be embeded. So I'm not sure what the problem you are having is. The page you linked to is for making an embedded font in your library that can then be exported for actionscript and used by code and style sheets. If you are following the instructions on the page you liked to you only need to do that once. Which shouldn't be too hard.
    That is usually a different problem that having a bunch of different authortime created textfields that need to have characters embedded.
    As far as I know your only hope to change a bunch of authortime/library items is using JSFL. So even if the thing I pointed to isn't exactly what you need you could keep googling a bit or use that as a template.
    JSFL files are just text files so open it in note pad. Look for the line:
    if(it[i].itemType == "movie clip")
    and change it to this:
    if(it[i].itemType == "movie clip" || it[i].itemType=="button")
    Now it does buttons. You give up too easy.

  • Setting dynamic text not working in AS2

    I'm working on a complex file given to me by another designer
    and I'm having a problem with being able to set dynamic text.
    Basically, I just want to set the text of a nested instance (e.g.,
    with an instance called foo and a instance inside foo called bar,
    I'm using foo.bar.text = "test".) This works beautifully and as
    expected in a test file. But when I move the symbols and code to
    the other designer's file, nothing happens. I.e., the dynamic text
    is blank.
    I feel confident that I'm not making any errors (I'm using
    tested code and symbols!), but I cannot think what else could be
    causing the error. Mine is the only ActionScript in the entire
    file.
    Are there bugs with dynamic text? Could this have to do with
    font substitution? I did change the fonts to Arial and "device
    fonts" without effect.
    Thanks!

    I appreciate your taking the time to help me and others on
    this board. (I actually have another -- probably related question
    -- that has never been answered, but that one is more confusing
    because it involved multiple language support and worked *until* I
    embedded the font.)
    My understanding of Flash is definitely a mixed bag. I have
    encountered so many problems (really quirks) with Flash that I kind
    of start with the assumption that I'm dealing with something
    quirky.
    In this case, since I don't know your style, I just couldn't
    see where you were going with your questions. In any case, thanks.
    I'm smarter re Flash as a result of your help.

  • Dynamic Text Editor

    I am making a dynamic text editor.
    Some of the fonts do not embed well? I have imported the
    fonts, put a linkage name, assigned data to the label.
    Some of the fonts change, but not on the server?
    I am using the setTextFormat?
    Does anyone have any ideas? It would be greatly appreciated,

    Hello I am wondering if you can help me. I am sorry I have no
    answer for your problem.
    I am looking to also create a custom text editor in flash but
    I have no idea on how to do that. Would you happen to have a
    tutorial or can direct me to one on the web that I can learn how to
    create such a thing?
    I am looking for tutorials on this subject for both AS2 AND
    AS3 based text editor creation.

  • How to use an dynamic text from Flash in FlashBuilder with swf ?

    Hello,
    i'm trying to develop a game in flex builder and i got a problem with the dymanic text i've imported from flash. I want to insert a scoreboard in my application and for doing that i should use dynamic text in flash. I create a dynamic text in flash and then a import it to Flash Builder in a movie clip, and i called the dynamic text "Score". Now i've tried to use the "Score" variable to change the value of the dynamic text box un my flash builder application, but it doesn't change anything.
    I read somewhere that i've got to use the score.text value to change the number of my score but that doesn't works because Flash Builder tells me that this sort of variable don't contain the .text value.
    Thank you for trying to help me.

  • Adding Scrollbar and buttons to Dynamic Text

    Hello,
    I am trying to connect dynamic text to scrollbar and buttons. I did tutorial and Lynda.com and practically pasted the code in with my file names and for some reason it does not work. It says I have a "Access of Undefined Property mask_mc" Did I need to create a variable for this? I didn't in the tutorial.
    Right now I have the dynamic text loading successfuly in 2 different places and I wantd to add the scrollbar. I put the variables on frame 1 code and then I put the actually load code on the frame where it is needed.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks! Sandra
    HERE IS CODE FOR FRAME 1:
    var textLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    var textReq:URLRequest;
    var scrollPercent:Number = 0;
    var minScroll:Number;
    var maxScroll:Number;
    var targetScroll:Number = philText_mc.y;
    var easing:Number = 5;
    var scrollAmt:Number = 15;
    var scrollDirection:Number = 0;
    HERE IS CODE FOR FRAME WHERE TEXT LOADS:
    textReq = new URLRequest("text_philosophy.txt");
    function philosophyTextLoaded(event:Event):void {
        philText_mc.philosophy_txt.text = textLoader.data;
        minScroll = philText_mc.y;
        maxScroll = minScroll - philText_mc.height + mask_mc.height;
    function dragScroller(event:MouseEvent):void
        var dragX:Number = line_mc.x - scroller_mc.width/2 + 1;
        var dragY:Number = line_mc.y;
        var dragW:Number = 0;
        var dragH:Number = line_mc.height - scroller_mc.height;
        scroller_mc.startDrag(false, new Rectangle(dragX,dragY,dragW,dragH));
        stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, stopDragging);
        stage.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, setScrollPercent);
        stage.removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, scrollText);
    function stopDragging(event:MouseEvent):void
        scroller_mc.stopDrag();
    function setScrollPercent(event:Event):void
        scrollPercent = (scroller_mc.y - line_mc.y) / (line_mc.height - scroller_mc.height);
        if(scrollPercent < 0)
            scrollPercent = 0;
        else if(scrollPercent > 1)
            scrollPercent = 1;
        targetScroll = (scrollPercent * (maxScroll - minScroll)) + minScroll;
        philText_mc.y -= (philText_mc.y - targetScroll) / easing;
    function scrollUp(event:MouseEvent):void
        setDirection(scrollAmt);
    function scrollDown(event:MouseEvent):void
        setDirection(-scrollAmt);
    function setDirection(dir:Number):void
        scrollDirection = dir;
        stage.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, scrollText);
        stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, stopScrolling);
        stage.removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, setScrollPercent);
    function scrollText(event:Event):void
        targetScroll += scrollDirection;
        philText_mc.y -= (philText_mc.y - targetScroll) / easing;
        if(philText_mc.y > minScroll)
            philText_mc.y = minScroll;
            targetScroll = minScroll;
        else if(philText_mc.y < maxScroll)
            philText_mc.y = maxScroll;
            targetScroll = maxScroll;
        scrollPercent = (philText_mc.y - minScroll) / (maxScroll - minScroll);
        scroller_mc.y = (scrollPercent * (line_mc.height - scroller_mc.height)) + line_mc.y;
    function stopScrolling(event:MouseEvent):void
        scrollDirection = 0;
    textLoader.load(textReq);
    scroller_mc.buttonMode = true;
    philText_mc.external_txt.autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT;
    scroller_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, dragScroller);
    textLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, philosophyTextLoaded);
    up_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, scrollUp);
    down_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, scrollDown);

    Hello again,
    Maybe I am asking this question wrong. Instead of making you try and figure out what's going on in my file what I really need to know is how you would take this code I am attaching and make it happen on another frame besides frame 1 and it doesn't appear on frame 1. I think this may help me understand a little better.
    Also another way I was thinking to get around this would be to pull in an external swf into the spot where I want this text to go because I can make the scrollbars and external text work when it is the only thing going on in the movie. Would this be a bad way to set this up? and also SInce it is an external movie would I have maintimeline issues with mouse/scroller control?
    thanks! sandra
    Here is working code:
    var textLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    var textFile:URLRequest = new URLRequest("text/external.txt");
    var scrollPercent:Number = 0;
    var minScroll:Number;
    var maxScroll:Number;
    var targetScroll:Number = text_mc.y;
    var easing:Number = 5;
    var scrollAmt:Number = 15;
    var scrollDirection:Number = 0;
    function textLoaded(event:Event):void
        text_mc.external_txt.text = textLoader.data;
        minScroll = text_mc.y;
        maxScroll = minScroll - text_mc.height + mask_mc.height;
    function dragScroller(event:MouseEvent):void
        var dragX:Number = line_mc.x - scroller_mc.width/2 + 1;
        var dragY:Number = line_mc.y;
        var dragW:Number = 0;
        var dragH:Number = line_mc.height - scroller_mc.height;
        scroller_mc.startDrag(false, new Rectangle(dragX,dragY,dragW,dragH));
        stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, stopDragging);
        stage.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, setScrollPercent);
        stage.removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, scrollText);
    function stopDragging(event:MouseEvent):void
        scroller_mc.stopDrag();
    function setScrollPercent(event:Event):void
        scrollPercent = (scroller_mc.y - line_mc.y) / (line_mc.height - scroller_mc.height);
        if(scrollPercent < 0)
            scrollPercent = 0;
        else if(scrollPercent > 1)
            scrollPercent = 1;
        targetScroll = (scrollPercent * (maxScroll - minScroll)) + minScroll;

  • Dynamic text Underline Links

    I have created a RSS feed viewer, parsing the RSS feed with

    change when rolled over and clicked on. Help. Attached is my code.

    The trick with the help files is to realize that everything
    is organized by classes. So if you want to do something with
    text...
    Open the help files and select the ActionScript 3.0 drop
    down. Then from that list Expand the Actionscript 3.0 language
    reference and the All Classes section. Next scroll down to the "T"
    section and start looking.
    The ones that seem interesting to me for what you were
    looking for are TextField and TextFormat. Even if you don't know
    exactly what you need those seem like they would have something to
    do with text and how it looks.
    Then start looking through the entries for each of those
    sections. Everything that can be done with text is in there. So
    after looking at TextField I didn't see anything about making an
    underline or even how to change the color. But I did see a method
    called setTextFormat()
    So next I check out the documentation on the TextFormat class
    and sure enough there is an underline property.
    Great, so by this point I've figured out how to make some
    TextFormats and then use the setTextFormat() method to apply them.
    So next you've got to figure out how to apply the different formats
    when I want them.
    Things that happen at certain times are events, so anything
    that you want to happen now, not then -- or I suppose then, not
    now! -- will require an event. So again it is something about
    events. So I'll go back to the textfield class and see what kind of
    events there are. At first glance you might think that TextFields
    only have 4 events -- change, link, scroll, textInput -- and that
    none of them seem to be what you would want. Now this is the tricky
    part...
    At the top of the events section in the documentation there
    is a little arrow for "Show inherited events." So going down that
    list you will find that TextFields get a lot of events from
    inheritance. Sure enough reading down the list I see mouseOver and
    (this is important) finishing the list I also see a rollOver. They
    both seem promising. Always read the entire list. There are many
    times when there are two similar things and if you stop at the
    first you might miss out.
    Anyways, I hope that this helps you see how the process can
    work. The Flash help files are actually pretty awesome and helpful,
    but you have to know how to work them. You will very seldom find
    the answer by searching or find a fully formed answer to your
    specific needs.
    Break it down into the classes you think you might need. Then
    look for the properties, methods, and events you might need. Most
    of them have fairly straight forward names the should suggest what
    they might be for. And then follow the hyper links to related
    classes than their methods, properties, and events.
    PS: I just noticed your second problem. So do the same thing.
    So notice that if you look through the TextField class there isn't
    anything that lets you chop a string or cut it up or anything. But
    notice the text property of the TextField class. That is what shows
    in a textfield. And notice that it takes a String.
    If you didn't know it a String is some text. You would never
    find the String class if you didn't know that techy word, but by
    noticing how often it is mentioned in the TextField class you could
    get there.
    So next look at the String class. What methods and properties
    do you need for what you want to do?
    The length property might tell you when a String is too long.
    And the methods substr() and substring() seem promising to
    cut up part of a String.
    Finally adding an ellipsis at the end might be hard to figure
    out if you don't know the trick. Fortunately you only need to read
    the methods to the "c" or concat(). Fancy talk for putting strings
    together. Always read the entry to the end. There you will see a
    link for "See Also Concatenating Strings." That will show you that
    you can easily use a plus sign to add strings together -- just like
    addition.

  • All dynamic text links going to same link even though URLs differ

    Hi,
    I just made a flash news scroller where the news headlines are dynamic text and have different urls provided in the link section. But when I click on any of them, they all go to the first link only. Am I supposed to set something here to stop it from doing so?
    Any help appreciated.

    Ok, I figured out why all the links are going to the same page. Well all the other links are under the first headline, which I am making transparent for the others to appear, but not removing from the stage. Hence even though the first headline is not visible, it is still the top link on the screen, causing everything to go there.
    Any suggestions on how I can make it appear below the newly visible headline?? They are all arranged one below the other.

  • Help "enhancing" dynamic text

    Im am currently working on a flash website and have succeeded
    in making a scrolling text area... the thing is the text is dynamic
    and you can't change like one word into one specific font... i've
    been also trying to link this certain word to a different frame in
    the scrolling text area but i can't! also i want to make an image
    appear when you "mouse over" a certain word in this dynamic text
    area. Any help would be much appreciated thank you.

    Hi kglad,
    Thank you for the note. I have gone over the Actionscript and
    can find no obvious flaw. Can you tell me how a property might be
    assigned before the text is loaded? Could network traffic affect
    this?
    I did some tests during peak usage times.
    The tests of the project seem to indicate that once the error
    was encountered and the content reloaded (keeping the same session)
    that the error would not reoccur. Closing the session and browser
    and er-entering resulted in no error.
    However, closing the session then deleting cookies and/or
    temporary internet files then starting a new session caused the
    problem to reoccur. I could delete just the cookies and the problem
    would reoccur. I could delete just the temporary internet files and
    the problem would reoccur.
    Again, the error, when it does occur, seems to affect some
    text fields more than others and never consistantly. Its a moving
    target.
    Thank you for your earlier clue.

  • FONT issue in flash with Dynamic text

    I dont even know how to start this thread... I am having a
    serious problem with fonts on the flash movie I am Making/
    Modifiying. The Font that is being used is "standard 07_53" and I
    have been trying to understand how flash works with the fonts but
    somethings are just making me scratch my head. First off :
    - I tried using both the anti-alias for readability and the
    anti-alias for animation... the anti-alias for animation seems to
    creat sharper text in most cases.. + I am embedding all charachters
    when I do that (I know this makes my file way too big, but I am
    trying to figure out where I am going wrong)
    - Q1 : I found out changing the position of where my text box
    is on the document changes how clear the text is in the final
    puplication. Now That I have not even the simlest idea why... does
    anyone know?
    - Q2 : The justify problem... whenever I use Justify my text
    is all messed up... I even tried to change the font to Arial for
    example and it still makes some of the text a bit blurry (well it
    is blurry enough that I can notice it right away).. why does this
    happen?? and is there any kind of solution to this problem?? I
    definatly want my text justified
    - Q3 : Do I and why, have to embed the font in each text box,
    wouldnt one embeding be enough if using the same font in all the
    other text boxes?
    - Q4: Why do I see the text differently on different
    computers.. and this realy is in relation to Q1.. on my monitor all
    looks good on the published document, yet on other monitors and
    computers it looks completely fussy untill I change the position of
    that text box.
    -Q5: are there any sites that go in depth about Fonts and
    dynamic text and how they end up rendering in flash?
    you can see my problem with justified text at :
    http://www.alwayscoffee.com/mirror/flash/
    then click on COMPANY and then look at the text under "ABOUT
    US"
    by the way I am using flash 8 and publishing (flash settings
    of:) flash player 8 - action script 2.0 - compress movie option
    CHECKED - and jpeg quality 80
    I apriciate all the help I can get.

    Hi,
    as you I don't even know where to start, as it is (as you
    have noticed) quite a complex thing. If you are still interssted in
    the subject, drop me a line, and I try to answer some of your
    questions.
