Making Photoshop the Default

Ok, here's the thing. I am graphic designer for a firm where I live and I loaded Corel's Paint Shop Pro on my computer since one of the guys here uses that mostly (why I don't know). Anyways I prefer Photoshop, hands down, so I want to make it my default Graphics editor/image viewer (Paint Shop Pro changed it to its program during install). Can someone please walk me through this!!! I am sure I have to edit the registry, but I don't know where!
~Greg

Sounds like you are talking windows. (registry comment) Right click on the file you want Photoshop to open. Select open with in the menu and then Choose Program... Select Photoshop and make sure you check the 'Always use the selected program...' check box. Photoshop should now open those files by default. You will have to do this for all the file types you want Photoshop to open. It is a registry entry but this is much easier then messing with the magic registry!

  • Help with making photoshop the default program to open pictures.

I subscribe to Adobe Creative Cloud and use Photoshop the most. I of course want all my pictures to have Photoshop as the default application to open them but I can't get it to work.  When I go to "open with" to change to photoshop it doesn't automatically show up as one of my options so I go to "browse" and find it under program files, adobe, Photoshop cc but when I click on it and accept it won't keep it.  It keeps going back to a different program.  I can't change to default to acrobat or other programs, just not Photoshop.  What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you.

  • How do I make Photoshop the default Edit App for .jpg in Windows 7?

How do I make Photoshop the default Edit App for .jpg in Windows 7?    I want to be able to right click on a .jpg file, select the EDIT option in the Context Menu, then have Photoshop edit the file instead of Paint.
In Windows XP it was very easy to use the File Manger to associate the file type .jpg and action edit with Photoshop.    No so easy in Windows 7.  It is easy to change the default OPEN application, but I would like to leave Windows Viewer as the default OPEN application and have Photoshop as the EDIT applicaiton.

Before I posted the original question here, I had probably spent a couple of hours trying to research it.   I hate to find no answer for something I know can be done.   So I spent some more time and found the following in the bowels of a Tech Forum that is generally way over my head.  I have modified it to be Photoshop specific.
These instructions will update the default EDIT action for image types - jpg, png, gif and the variations.     If you are unfamiliar with editing the program registry you probably will want to back up your registry or take a system backup.
    1. Open up the registry editor (Regedit.exe).
You will need to be signed on as a Windows user that is an administrator
    2. Find HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT -> SystemFileAssociations -> image ->  shell -> edit -> command
This seems like it would be easy but it is not, because there are many key names that are very close (like System.FilesAssociations).   Keep looking because you will find it eventually.
    3. Double click on "Default" (on right window pane) and update the program location.
You should see that MSPAINT.EXE is the current program.
Erase the existing value and enter you photoshop location in quotes followed by %1 in quotes.  For me this is "C:\Program Files  (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Photoshop.exe" "%1"
    Hit return.
    4.  Exit Regit and test.

  • How do I make Photoshop the default in Dreamweaver

Hi, PhotoImpact is currently my default program in Dreamweaver CS6. I want to change the default to PhotoShop. I used Associated type or protocol to change from PhotoImpact to PhotoShop, but when I click on a jpg file in Dreamweaver, PhotoImpact still comes up. How can this be changed?

You can change that under Edit > Preferences > File Types/Editors > Under Please choose external editors, select Photoshop on the right (add it by hitting the + if it's not there) > Hit Make Primary

  • Making "Sleep" the default in shutdown Dialog Box

    Hi,
Since I rarely shut down my computer, I'd like to make "Sleep" the default (highlighted blue button) instead of "Shut Down" when I press the round button to the right of the keyboard of my MacBook Pro. Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks,
    Mark

The reason I haven't been just closing the lid is because I was told by a "genius" at the Genius Bar of an Apple Store that it's always best to initiate any of these options (sleep, shut down, etc) by pressing this button and making a selection.
    never heard that one before.
Is this true? I guess I should have asked him why.
    But opt-command-eject works great!
Many thanks for all the input.
    You are welcome!

  • Issues with setting "Maked Reader the default PDF viewer" with Adobe Customization Wizard XI

I am using the Adobe Customization Wizard XI. I have set the following options in the Adobe Customization Wizard.
    Personalization Options
Enabled the checkbox for Suppress display of End User License Agreement (EULA)
    Installation Options
Selected the radio button for Make Reader the default PDF viewer
Run Installation: selected radio button Silently(No Interface)
    Security
Enhanced Security Settings - Clicked drop down and set value to Disable
    Online Services and Features
    Checked Disable product updates
Checkd In Adobe Reader, disable Help > Purchase Adobe Acrobat
    Checked Disable Product Improvement Program
Checked Disable Viewing of PDF with Ads for Adobe PDF
Checked Disable all Adobe online services based workflows and entry points.
I have tried to deploy the MSI with MST via GPO and Command Line with no luck.  Every time i deploy via below methods, the same result occurs, all of the options are set correctly except the "Make Reader the default PDF viewer".  I know how to manually set this option via Windows or Adobe interfaces but i am looking to roll this out to the masses and would not want a bunch of service desk calls because a user clicks on an Adobe PDF file and it is not opening in Adobe Reader.
    GPO
    Create New Package Use AcroRead.msi
    Choose Advanced
Deployment Options - Click Uninstall this application when it falls out of the scope of management.
Modifications - Select Transform file located in the folder of MSI
    Command Line.
Tried these options to try and apply "Make Reader the default PDF viewer"
    msiexec /i  "<path>\AcroRead.msi" TRANSFORMS="<path>\TransformFile.mst"
    msiexec /i  "<path>\AcroRead.msi" TRANSFORMS="<path>\TransformFile.mst" /qn
    msiexec /i "<path>\AcroRead.msi" IW_DEFAULT_VERB=Read
    msiexec /i  "<path>\AcroRead.msi" TRANSFORMS="<path>\TransformFile.mst" IW_DEFAULT_VERB=Read /qn
Anyone know how to make this setting work with the Transform file, i sure would appreciate assistance on this issue.

  • Making Acrobat the Default .pdf Viewer

Can someone tell me where to find the switch that makes Acrobat 9 my default .pdf program?  Right now it's Foxit and I want to go back to Acrobat 9.  The default switch in Foxit says I have to make the change in Acrobat.
    Thanks.

    Depends on your OS.
Mostly if you right click on a PDF that is saved on your hard drive and choose "Open with", pick Acrobat and select "always use the selected program to open this type of file" it will clear it up.
I'm not sure why Foxit gave you that information though.

  • How do I stop Quicktime from making itself the default media view every time I upgrade that program?

Every time. And there's no obvious way to avoid it.

You may be able to disable file and MIME type, but they're grayed-out on my version of Quick Time. Also, the article http://kb.mozillazine/quicktime concerns installation. It does not mention how to change the default settings

  • Making Preview the default pdf reader

For some reason, some pdf files try to open with Safari as the default reader. The only way I can use Preview in this instance is to save the file, then I get an option to open with preview.
How do I make Preview the default reader for pdf files?

the Change All option is greyed out.Sounds like you don't have the proper permissions. Under "Ownership & Permissions,be sure you can "Read & Write and under "Details" that you are the owner. Group is Staff and Others can read only.
If this is correct, then try toggling the "Open with" to another app and then back again to see if "Change All" will become active.
Also, it wouldn't hurt to run "Repair Permissions" in Utilities/Disk Utility.

  • Making CUPC the default Windows SIP Application

Is it possible to make CUPC the default application when clicking a sip: link?
For example, right now I have XLite configured to automatically dial any time a "sip:XXXXXXX" link is clicked. In the registry it is pointed to "C:\Program Files\CounterPath\X-Lite\x-lite.exe" -dial="%1". I can point that to the CUPC executible, but I need the appropriate switches to make it automatically dial the number.
Does anyone know what command line switches are available to use with CUPC?

GET INFO for a video in the finder. Look for OPEN WITH. Pick VLC from the drop down menu...hit change all...done.

  • Making textedit the default "doc" opening program

I more often open doc files to read them than to do a major editing exercise, so I would like to make textedit the default program rather than Word. (When I want to work at the file I will open it from within word.) Is it posssible to do this? is there a place where associations are recorded?thanks LJ

It might be worth mentioning that there's a long tradition on unix systems of using editors to just read files. When I first got involved with unix and networking back in the late 1970's, it was the norm to read email, BBs and newsgroups with your favorite editor. I do a lot of work via ssh inside Terminal to various remote machines, and I routinely use my favorite editor (vi) to read email and other files. That way, you can use all the editor's commands to wander around in a file. Then, if you find something that needs to be changed, you're in an editor and it's easy.
I'd say that if you're thinking of it, do it. After a week or so, you'll know whether it's a good idea for your purposes. The previous reply told you how it works on OSX.

  • Making Quicktime the default viewer for .wmv files.

Whenever I try to open a .wmv file, my default program is iphoto. I have Flip4Mac and I want to use Quicktime to be the default viewer for it. I know how I can get each file to open with Quicktime, but I want it to be permanent. For instance, I download a .wmv file and I want to double click the new file on my desktop and Quicktime comes up so I can view the video. I figure this is a very simple thing to do, I just don't know where to change it. Please help. Thank you.

I find that this does not work- pilot error I'm sure.
When I right click on a .wmv file and chose "Get Info", a small window appears that has a section titled "Open With".It defaults to "Windows Media Player" and has a drop down window, offering me a choice of "Other..."
When I select "Other" a window opens that lets me chose an application. I select Quick Time Player and hit "Add". QT then populates the drop down window. I then select "Change ALL" which causes another window to open that asks "Are you sure you want all your Windows Media Player documents to open with the application Quick Time Player?". I answer "Continue" and as soon as I do that Windows Media Player is replaced in the Get Info window as the "Open With" choice.
I can't see how to make the change. Help!!

  • Making Pages the Default

Is it possible to have Pages '09 serve as the default application to open documents? Whenever I receive a word document from someone and try to open it, it opens it in TextEdit. I would prefer that it opened it in Pages so that I could avoid the step of having to copy and paste into a Pages template. What am I missing?

    Ric,
Thanks for the advice. As soon as you mentioned it, it all came back to me. However, my initial thinking was that you could set it as a preference from either Pages or TextEdit preferences. Kind of like you do in Safari where you can set your web browser to be the default web browser, whether you want Safari, Firefox, Opera or whatever. When that option didn't present itself, I came here. Thanks for your answer. It solved the problem. As an aside, I was under the impression that MS Word users would be able to open attachments created in Pages. I know that you can open MS word docs in pages, but when I tried to send a file I created in pages to someone who uses a PC, he couldn't open it. Any insights?
    Thanks again.

  • Making iWork the default apps for opening Microsoft Office documents

Is there a way to make Pages, Numbers and Keynote the default apps for opening Microsoft Office documents, such that if I double-click a Word document it launches Pages and opens, etc.? I know I can do it by double-clicking the Office document and dragging it to the appropriate iWork app in the dock, but it would be nice to have it happen by default. That way I can put Office in my rearview mirror!

Fantastic - worked exactly as advertized. Thank you both!! Office is now a distant memory (except when I have to save in MS formats to send files to the unfortunate masses).
    Best regards,
