Managing Configuration Information using JNDI

I'm considering using JNDI to manage our application configuration. Can
you please comment on these design ideas?
The Admin. server will master the configuration. The nodes will connect
to the Admin. server's JNDI and create a copy of the configuration
context in the local JNDI (anyone know any easy way to do this?).
(I can't use auto. replication, if the admin. server goes down the node
servers will unbind the config. information.)
The nodes will register as NamingListeners to the Admin. server's JNDI.
When a property changes in the Admin. JNDI, the nodes will automatically
pick it up.
I'm worried about when the Admin. server goes down. Do I have to
re-register the nodes as NamingListeners?
In a nutshell, my two questions are:
1) How can I easily copy an entire context between two JNDI trees?
2) How do I deal with the Admin. server going down (it does happen)?
Thanks,
Bob

Actually, that would be excellent. Do either of these implement what I'm
talking about (clustered JNDI with local caches), or would I have ot use
one of these to implement it myself?No, but you will get replication in the cluster. I've used JavaGroups to
replicate JMX configuration and it worked pretty well.
I'd really like to use JNDI for the interface. It's standard (nothing
new for other developers to learn), it decouples the clients from the
underlying storage implementation, and it has the notion of contexts
built in which I really need.

Why don't you simply use Tangosol product or Javagroups for this ?

    How can I configure ang use JNDI datasource on Tomcat 4.0.x ?
    Please help me , Thanks !

    Hello ,
    You need to go through the JNDI tutorial which you can access at the sun's site. It will explain all the things you need.
    By the way all you want to use JNDI datasource is JNDI class library and some naming or directory service provider, which also you can download from sun.
    Good Luck.

  • Can't fine WebServer configuration MBean using WLST

    I am trying to script the various log attributes (for access.log) on the weblogic.management.configuration.WebServerMBean
    using WLST. I have done the same before with wlshell. However I am having a problem
    finding that mbean use the WLST directory concept. I would presume it would be
    in <domain>/config/Servers/<server-name>/WebServer/<server-name>
    but all that is under that dir is WebDeployment.
    Can you share with me where I would find that MBean?
    Also, in the above directory path example, isn't <server-name> appearing twice
    a little redudant? If I have already navigated to Servers/<server-name> why should
    I need to navigate thru the <server-name> again when accessing other MBean beneath
    this directory?
    Thanks. I really think WLST is a great tool with tons of promise. We have automated
    the whole domain creation and managed server/cluster config with one script!

    a little redudant? If I have already navigated to Servers/<server-name> why should
    I need to navigate thru the <server-name> again when accessing other MBean beneath
    this directory?All the MBeans as you may have already noticed are arranged in a
    hiearchical fashion, as you see in config.xml. So for example you have,
    Domain - <domain-name>
         |_ Servers
              |_ myserver
                   |_ COM
                   | |_ myserver -No Contained MBeans/children
                   |_ Log
                   | |_ myserver - No Contained MBeans/children
                   |
                   |_ WebServer
                        |_ myserver
                             |_WebDeployment
                                  |_ myWebDeployment
    As you can see when you are at the domain level and do a ls(), by
    default you will see the children MBean types under the Domain MBean
    instance. If you specify ls('a'), this will show the attribute names and
    values for the domain mbean instance. So, 'Servers' is a child of Domain
    MBeean and when you cd to 'Servers' and do a ls() it will show the
    available mbean instance names under Servers. You will cd to any
    instance, in this case 'myserver'. After cd'ing to myserver when you do
    a ls() you will see the child MBean types for the Server Instance and
    ls('a') shows the attributes and values for the mbean instance.
    Now cd to WebServer, and when you do a ls() it shows the instance names
    of WebServer and since there is only one instance it shows 'myserver'
    which is the name of the WebServerMBean instance. When you cd to this
    instance and do a ls(), it shows the children of this mBean which is
    WebDeploymentMBean.
    Hope this helped explain the confusion.. :-).
    Let me know if you have any questions.
    Thanls,

  • Configure j2ee to support oracle9 database using jndi

    how to configure j2ee1.3.1 to support access to oracle9 data base using jndi
    i'm using a java bean to access an oracle9 data base,this snippet is written in the bean:
    public connexionBD() Throws SQLException{
    String dbName "java:com/env/jdbc/connexionBD";
    DataSource ds=(DataSource)InitialContext().lookup(dbName);
    Connection con =ds.getConnection("system","manager");
    when i try to access the .jsp page that uses this javabeans the SQLException is thrown
    I think it's a server configuration problem.
    Knowing that the classpath and .jar files are configured, Can you help me resolve this problem
    Thank you

    These sections from the J2EE 1.4 platform sepc should hopefully help you understand java:comp/env.
    J2EE.5.2.1.1 Access to Application Component s Environment An application component instance locates the environment naming context using the JNDI interfaces. An instance creates a javax.naming.InitialContext object by using the constructor with no arguments, and looks up the naming environment via the InitialContext under the name java:comp/env. The application component s environment entries are stored directly in the environment naming context, or in its direct or indirect subcontexts. Java Naming and Directory Interface" (JNDI) Naming Context 61 Environment entries have the Java programming language type declared by the Application Component Provider in the deployment descriptor. The following code example illustrates how an application component accesses its environment entries. public void setTaxInfo(int numberOfExemptions,...) throws InvalidNumberOfExemptionsException { ... // Obtain the application component s // environment naming context. Context initCtx = new InitialContext(); Context myEnv = (Context)initCtx.lookup( java:comp/env ); // Obtain the maximum number of tax exemptions // configured by the Deployer. Integer max = (Integer)myEnv.lookup( maxExemptions ); // Obtain the minimum number of tax exemptions // configured by the Deployer. Integer min = (Integer)myEnv.lookup( minExemptions ); // Use the environment entries to // customize business logic. if (numberOfExemptions > max.intValue() || numberOfExemptions < min.intValue()) throw new InvalidNumberOfExemptionsException(); // Get some more environment entries. These environment // entries are stored in subcontexts. String val1 = (String)myEnv.lookup( foo/name1 ); Boolean val2 = (Boolean)myEnv.lookup( foo/bar/name2 ); // The application component can also // lookup using full pathnames. Integer val3 = (Integer)initCtx.lookup( java:comp/env/name3 ); Integer val4 = (Integer)initCtx.lookup( java:comp/env/foo/name4 ); ... }
    J2EE.5.2.4 J2EE Product Provider s Responsibilities The J2EE Product Provider has the following responsibilities: NAMING 64 " Provide a deployment tool that allows the Deployer to set and modify the values of the application component s environment entries. " Implement the java:comp/env environment naming context, and provide it to the application component instances at runtime. The naming context must include all the environment entries declared by the Application Component Provider, with their values supplied in the deployment descriptor or set by the Deployer. The environment naming context must allow the Deployer to create subcontexts if they are needed by an application component.

  • Configuration management (LO-CM) used with Variant configuration (LO-VC)

    Hi
    I am new to SAP, working with Variant configuration (LO-VC).
    I wish to enforce configuration management during development of a new Variant configurator.
    Would Configuration management (LO-CM) work together with Variant configuration (LO-VC)?
    My expectation is that SAP Configuration management (LO-CM) will work similar to solutions like e.g. MsVisualSourceSafe, SubVersion, CVS, IBM/Rational ClearCase etc. in the software development domain.
    best regards Henrik

    Hi Amber
    Thanks a lot for answer, and please apologize my late response.
    I am not confused by the term 'configuration', being used in two different meanings.
    (1) Variant configuration (VC) is the dicipline of creating product variants by making a set of choises from the characteristics describing the product. A complete and consistent set of choises is a 'configuration'.
    (2) Configuration Management in the 'traditional' software development meaning: Software Configuration Management (SCM). E.g. Microsoft VisualSourceSafe, IMB/Rational ClearCase, Subversion etc. are examples of tools used for the kind of SCM I wish to apply to VC models.
    My confusion is whether the SAP CM that I can read about in the SAP online help, is similar to traditional SCM, and whether it can be applied to VC models.
    I wish to apply SCM to a VC model. All the objects that together make up the VC model may then each exist in various versions (version control). A complete set of the objects (in a given version) make up a configuration of the VC model.
    What is achieved is : you can control the development of VC model in just the same way that all serious software is under the control of SCM. This will allow an evolution of the VC model, like e.g. version 1.0 is released in January, then version 1.1 is released in June. A major upgrade of the model may become version 2.0 in December etc. The 'source code' (the objects) of each of the versions can be retrieved at any time from the SCM system. Also with SCM several developers may work on the same VC model at the same time, and merge their individual work into the same model.
    This is very different from todays VC model development. In todays VC model development, only one version exists, that is 'todays version'. Any change to the model is released immediately, and you can undo model changes only if you remember what it was like a little while ago.
    We do develop and test VC models in one SAP system, and then move them to the production system. This is however still very far from the benefits of SCM.

  • DBAdapter Using JNDI Configuration

    Hi,
    I have created a simple process with DBAdapter. (using a simple select from oracle 10g, calling one of the schema - not apps)
    When I ran this process on client it ran with no problem.
    When I ran it from the linux server it gave me a lot of exceptions, like:
    07/11/13 18:36:29 0 - ORABPEL-00000
    Exception not handled by the Collaxa Cube system
    Exception: java.lang.NullPointerException

    ORABPEL-00000
    Exception not handled by the Collaxa Cube system.
    07/11/13 18:36:29 1 - java.lang.NullPointerException

    ORABPEL-00000
    <2007-11-13 18:36:29,618> <ERROR> Failed to handle dispatch message ... exception ORABPEL-05002.
    I'm using soa suite 10.1.3.3 (Client and server).
    I had no problem with this on another server (with same installation - another customer)
    I think the process is looking for the JNDI definition and is not using the connection details from DB.wsdl in the process.
    I tried to define the JNDI connection (data-sources.xml, connectors, oc4j-ra) with no success (tried from EM and manualy also).
    Does anyone knows where in the server we define if we want to use JNDI or not.
    And if so, what are the correct steps to define it.
    Thanks
    Arik

    The jist of it is:
    - define the jndi entry in $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/<instance name>/application-deployments/default/DbAdapter/oc4j-ra.xml
    - the above entry refers to a data-source entry in $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/<instance name>/config/data-sources.xml (default instance name is "home")
    As long as the above are set, it should work. Look at the example pre-seeded entry to avoid confusion with XA vs non-XA settings in the above entries.
    To just get the service working without having to worry about the above configuration, make sure that the jndi entry (i.e eis/DB/...) referred to in the adapter service wsdl does not appear in the above oc4j-ra.xml; then the adapter uses the connection info specified in the wsdl directly. To confirm that it is working the way you want it regardless of which of the above routes you take, enable DEBUG level logging for *.ws logger, and take a look at the log file $ORACLE_HOME/bpel/domains/<domain name>/logs/domain.log. (default domain name is "default")

    Thanks very much.

    Hi
    do you mean IMG configuration of ABAP scenarios?
    when you create the project in solution manager you can see all its configuration information on the tabs(TA Solar_project_Admin)
    for the ABAP scenarios, executable configuration files (IMGs) are available. SAP Solution Manager has the capability of executing the ABAP scenarios IMG files during the configuration and management of the system landscape(TA Solar02)

  • Workflow Manager Configuration Wizard is not working with USER ID

    Hello everyone,
       I
    have successfully installed Workflow Manager 1.0 (and its prerequisites) on my Server 2008 R2 SP1 machine that is hosting Sharepoint 2013.  I attempt to go into the Workflow Manager Configuration.  That comes up and asks me if I want to Create
    new farm with Default Settings, New Farm with custom settings, or existing farm.  I've tried both Default settings AND Custom settings.
                When
    the configuration wizard comes up, I attempt to fill out the necessary information.  It seems to connect to the SQL server without a problem.  I only run into an issue when setting the USER ID.  The program totally freezes up and force closes.
                I
    have verified that the USERID is in the correct format and tried multiple different formats.  The problem is that the moment I move the cursor from the USERID field to ANY other field, the program force closes.  I'm not able to hit submit, I'm not
    able to change any other options.  The moment USERID is manipulated or the cursor LEAVES the USERID field, the program force closes.  It won't even allow me to put in a password before it force closes.
                 Customer
    domain is running in Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edittion SP2.
    Any
    ideas?
    I have installed also cumulative update to avoid crash but still I am getting force to close workflow wizard. I have used users which are already added in administrator groups.
    We are using 3 tier architecture for Sharepoint 2013.
    Also we have made Alias of Domain controller. Eg:-Alias is "labs" for domain "xyz.ab.com".
    And we are using labs\spadmin and labs\spservice for Workflow Manager Configuration 1.0
    Is there any issue with Domain Alias "labs" as Workflow gives error  "Specified RunAs account is invalid" or "Force close the application".
          I
    have copied the errors from event viewer below:

    Check to ensure that the user you're running the wizard as has access to the Users and Computers folders in Active Directory. I had trouble with the "specified RunAs account is invalid" message, and when I granted the AD rights, I was able to proceed.
    The issue would be that the user executing the wizard isn't able to query AD to look up the specified user. The RunAs account you're specifying is probably fine.

  • How to use JNDI look up from a JSP

    Hello,
    I know I should not be doing this (writing the lookup code in a JSP) but have to do it for some reasons.
    I am using this code in my JSP:
    try
         Context ctx = new InitialContext();
         dataSource = (DataSource)ctx.lookup("jdbc/mybillingora");
         conn = dataSource.getConnection();
         statement = conn.createStatement();
    catch(Exception excep)
    Is this code enough for a JNDI look up?? When I use this code, I get an exception:
    "javax.naming.NameNotFound exception:jdbc/mybillingora"
    Do I need to do something else??
    Why do we use :
    Properties env = new Properties();
    env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,
    "<some_context_factory>");
    env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, PROVIDER_URL);
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, JNDI_USER);
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, JNDI_PWD);
    InitialContext = new InitialDirContext(env);
    where JNDI_USER is the userid If ACL is configured at the JNDI server
    where JNDI_PWD is the password If ACL is configured at the JNDI server
    Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY is the initial Context factory and depends on ur JNDI service provider.
    PROVIDER_URL is the url of the JNDI server containing protocol/ip/port
    do i need to use this??
    would appreciate your help on this....
    Thanks

    I am working on a pretty similar problem and posted my problem minute ago.
    Include JNDI.jar from <Oracle_HOME>\jlib. (This is what I found in Oracle docs).
    I presume you are also trying to create the Datasource using Datasource interface via JNDI rather than using Driver Manager.
    Thanks
    Mei

  • What is ALERT Management.how to use it?

    what is ALERT Management. what is it's use.how to do ALERT Management?

    HI
    Alerts within XI give us a simple way to monitor only those errors that we want to and send alert messages to different people depending on the alert category.
    Alert configuration is used to have the system inform you of errors during message processing.
    By using the Alert Framework, central monitoring can be provided with all errors reported during message processing in ABAP and Java. This enables an improved reaction to such errors in both the ABAP runtime and the Java-based Adapter Engine. For this purpose, the Alert Framework is provided with rules based on certain events and on information from the header of the message protocol. These rules determine whether alerts are send or not.
    Alert Configuration:
    1) An Alert is a notification informing its recipients that a critical or very important situation has arisen. The
    situation is as severe that an action must be taken immediately in order to resolve the situation. The
    system recognizes the situation and sends the Alert.
    2) We use the Alert Configuration to have the system inform you of errors during message processing. we
    can receive the Alert by e-mail, fax, or SMS.
    3) To configure your Alerts, proceed as follows:
    a) Create the Alert Categories that we want to use in our Alert Rules.
    b) Create the Alert Rules in which we want to use our Alert Categories
    4) An Alert is an instance of an Alert Category
    5) Alert Categories can be defined by applications or customers using the Alert Category definition
    environment, which is accessed in Transaction Code ALRTCATDEF
    6) The Structure of Alert Category is defiened by the following
    a) Technical key (language-independent) for identification purposes
    b) Description (language-dependent)
    c) Classification
    d) Priority
    e) Maximum number of deliveries. (This applies to delivery to a destination other than the alert
    inbox.)
    f) Expiry time (in minutes) after which the alert is deleted
    g) Escalation recipient to whom the alert is sent if it is not confirmed by any of its recipients
    h) Tolerance time before escalation
    i) Short text, long text, and title
    The title is used as mail title, fax subject, and alert title in the inbox. The long text is used as
    mail/fax body and the long text view in the inbox. The short text is used for pager and SMS.
    j) Container for variable definition if variables are to be used in the texts, or for other application-
    specific attributes
    k) Subsequent activities in the form of URLs

  • Dreaded "must be configured to use a valid SSL cert" - 2008 R2

    Hello everybody,
    I've been browsing through hundreds of topics on the dreaded "The RD Gateway server must be configured to use
    a valid SSL certificate" error using BPA (Windows Server 2008 R2 Std), but still haven't found a proper solution.
    Here's the issue: RDGW not operating properly and sometime accepting connections, sometimes not.
    I have an external domain example.com and internally, the domain is example.local. I have one server serving Exchange and RD, this is the server responding to mail.example.com and I have an StartSSL issued cert for mail.example.com, which is properly configured
    on the server (OWA is working properly with autodiscover etc.). SSL bindings seem alright, default site is using the mail.example.com SSL cert.
    If I open the RDGW Manager and go to the SSL Certificate tab, the system looks happy by having the cert installed, everything looks fine. Sometimes I even manage to connect - connection is successful, I can normally connect to any of the servers or computers.
    On a second attempt, I just get the message, that the logon attempt had failed. If I run BPA on the server, I get the error of not having a proper SSL cert. If I select a self-signed cert, then also the BPA goes through, but then I have problems with connections
    since everybody would need this cert to have installed.
    From what I read, my problems are related to the issue that the FQDN of my server is servername.example.local and the cert is issued to mail.example.com. How can I make the thing only to talk via the mail.example.com cert? I don't think I can get a cert
    that'd also contain a SAN of servername.example.local from the CA.
    What can I do?

    Hi Andrej,
    Thanks for posting in Windows Server Forum.
    Here providing you the article for BPA’s configuration logs, where you can check. It also states that certificate are main problem related to this error. Please check certificate which you have bound have FQDN name of gateway server, the certificate is SSL
    certificate and it’s a trusted certificate. Also check that certificate which you have importing to RD gateway must be in local computer/personal store. For more information refer below article.
    1. Using the Remote Desktop Services BPA to analyze a Remote Desktop Gateway
    implementation
    2. RDS: The RD Gateway server must be configured to use a valid SSL certificate
    In addition, you need to specify the FQDN name of RD gateway under
    DefaultTSgateway in IIS setting. Please go through below article for details.
    RD Gateway/Web Access Outside the Firewall
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks,
    Dharmesh

  • SQL Server 2005 Database Mail - Mail configuration information could not be read from the database.

    I'm trying to setup Database Mail and send a test message, but it's not working.
    I've done several step-by-steps and all and I can't get it to work. Also checked several posts in this forum but none helped. I think it used to work before (2 months ago) but we had to turn it off.
    I've enabled it in Surface Configuration, have tried recreating all profiles, restarted SQL Agent, checked version mismatch...
    I check the Database Mail and I get the following message:

  • Network Load Balancing - "access denied" when loading configuration information from host2

    We have 2 Windows 2012 R2 servers, both are running on workgroup.
    We set up NLB cluster.  When we open NLB Manager on the server2, then message shows "loading configuration information. Access denied. Error connecting to server1".
    There is no issue doing this on server1, NLB Manager is able to connect to both servers. We login using default administrator account, both account name and password are the same for 2 servers.
    When we check security event log on server1, there is this strange Audit Failure log using account "test_nlb" from server2 which related to "Access denied" error. Please let us know how to resolve this. Thanks in advance.

    This event is generated when a logon request fails. It is generated on the computer where access was attempted.
    The Subject fields indicate the account on the local system which requested the logon. This is most commonly a service such as the Server service, or a local process such as Winlogon.exe or Services.exe.
    The Logon Type field indicates the kind of logon that was requested. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network).
    The Process Information fields indicate which account and process on the system requested the logon.
    The Network Information fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases.
    The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request.
        - Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request.
        - Package name indicates which sub-protocol was used among the NTLM protocols.
        - Key length indicates the length of the generated session key. This will be 0 if no session key was requested.

    Hi Zhong Gang,
    When you are using Network Load Balancing (NLB) Manager, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the host that you are configuring, or you must have been delegated
    the appropriate authority. If you are configuring a cluster or host by running NLB Manager from a computer that is not part of the cluster, you do not have to be a member of the Administrators group on that computer. Please disable your nodes firewall and
    try again.
