Mandriva 2009: trying to use a raw USB device through VISA

Hi,
I'm a real beginner at Unix, so please be patient :-)
I have just installed Mandriva 2009 and LabVIEW 2009 on my laptop. My objective is to drive a USB raw device.
I went through some difficulties to install NI-VISA 4.5 and solved them by browsing in the forum. Some issues remain:
 - As I am not familiar with Unix, I am not sure to understand what "usbfs should be mounted with devmode=0666". Could someone tell me the rigth command line to enter?
 - When running AddUsbRawPermissions.sh, I am told that /etc/hotplug cannot be found. Reading the script, I saw that it is looking for /sbin/udevcontrol. I don't have it, I only have under /sbin the "udevadm" and "udevd" executables.
 - When running the VISA driver wizard, I only have access to PXI/PCI. Maybe it is related to former points.
 - When trying to launch the VISA Interactive Control, I get a nice bouncing cursor animation, but nothing else.
 - When trying to use the "VISA Find Resource" VI, Labview just crashes.
Thank you in advance for your answers.

Hello,
First command line generated an error (translation from French: mount: you must specify the file system type). Second command line seemed to work. At least it didn't cause an error. Therefore I went ahead and tried the AddUsbRawPermissions.sh script, leading to the same error: -Cannot find "/etc/hotplug".-
Besides, VISA Driver Wizard and VISA Interactive Control still behave the same way.

Achille

  • Why I cannot get response from my USB device through VISA raw using VISAWrite.vi and VISARead.vi?

I am sure VISA has been assigned as the driver for my USB device (ADC USB FIFO Evaluation Kit). I tried to simply use VISAWrite.vi to send out a word to USB device and want to read the digitalized data from it using VISARead.vi. However, though it seems there are data points flowing, they are all 0-valued coming out from VISARead.vi (I keep reading for N times). Could you comment on my wiring and help me out? I am familiar with LabVIEW but not the real-time and driver things. Many thanks!

Have you been able to confirm that the ADC is connected to a voltage source. What are you expecting to return? I would suggest connecting something like a good 9V battery to the input and reference. Also make sure the reference is either internally connected to ground or you might want to connect a resistor (100kOhm) between the reference and ground.
You might want to try to see what raw data is being returned from the device. Try something like USB Monitor (http://www.hhdsoftware.com/usbmon.html) to see what information is being transmitted between the computer and the instrument.
Did you write the firmware for the device or do you know if the device is suppose to be returning the data from a bulk, interrupt, or control transfer. Also, what is it that
    you are trying to create.

  • Facing issue while trying to disable automatic discovery of devices through Apple Bonjour

    Hi All,
I am facing issue while trying to disable automatic discovery of devices through Apple Bonjour.
Background: Whenever our application is in running state, devices are automatically discovered if it connects to PC. We are using Apple Bonjour's auto discovery technology( mdnsresponder ).
We are registering a particular service type by using DNS API "DNSServiceRegister". Service type is getting registered properly and we are able to discovered that particular type of device.
    Platform:  Windows 7.0 / MAC 10.8
    Issue:
But we are facing issue while trying to disable auto discovery of a device programmatically. i.e, unregistered a service reference programmatically from our windows application.
To unregistered a service we are using "DNSServiceRefDeallocate" DNS API. But looks like it is not working properly.
Is this DNS API “DNSServiceRefDeallocate” is correct one to unregistered the service?
Here is the step by step procedure that we are following to de-allocate a service reference:
1.Browsing / Query a service by using service type to get service reference (DNSServiceRef).
2.Get reference socket FD by using DNS API "DNSServiceRefSockFD".
3.Select a socket by using "select" API.
4.Close the socket that we got from step 2 by closesocket().
5.Delete the service reference by using DNS API "DNSServiceRefDeallocate" and service reference from step 1.
Are we missing any step to unregistered a service?

Original problem I noticed was that regular websites I go to (such as msn) were only partially downloading.  I could see the text on the site but no pictures or videos.  All web surfing was extremely slow.  When I would go to a site such as man I would see another address in the lower left corner for "ads1.msads.net" or "cdn.optimizely.com" that is was trying to connect to. I tried using all three of my browsers (firefox, safari, chrome) and got the same response on all browsers.  After I spent some time researching the issue I decided I probably had a adware/malware problem so I decided to try adwaremedic.com.  I could also not access that site along with thesafemac.com or apple.com.  I was also getting the same response on my other devices (iPhone, iPad, and a mac air).  I could not access any of these sites on any of my devices although I could get to almost any other site although it was very slow.  At that point I decided to unplug the router.  I also did a number of other things before then to try and manually get rid of any adware.  Eventually I got msn back working, apple.com, and the speed was much faster.  But, I still can not access adwaremedic and thesafemac.com.  I could access these on my phone with 3G but not on my wifi.  This is where the problem still stands.  I am sure I still have some adware on my computer and need to find a way to remove it.  I am no techie so the complicated manual fixes are difficult for me to do.

  • Using USB Device through Parallels Desktop / CIT200 Skype Phone

Hi. I have the Linksys CIT200 cordless phone that I use with Skype. I am a recent convert from PC and this is my first mac. I have Parallels desktop installed and everything in that seems to work fine.
When I plugin the CIT200 base station, it does not give me the popup that says "Would you like to use this device in Windows XP....." Also, in System Profiler, I do not see the CIT200 device even recognized. It is getting power because it powers up...
How can I get my mac to recognize this USB device, and then give Windows control of it through Parallels?

    No, not at all.
The application works just fine. I mean a wireless handset (basically, a telephone that connects to the computer via a USB docking station. Much like the one I linked to in the original post, although hopefully one that actually works with the OS 10.6.
Without the "skype phone" you have to physically sit down at your computer to make a skype call. With the handset, you can walk around the house while on a skype call. You can also both initiate and receive calls from the handset while not physically at your computer (so long as the skype application is running and you are within range, usually 100-300 feet).

  • I've lost the use of my USB devices.

Okay, I have a rather odd problem with my G5.
Let me preface this by saying that I have a 23" Cinema Display as well as a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. I never did care for the Bluetooth mouse, so I swapped it out for the Mighty Mouse. Everything was fine for months. Then, one morning, when I booted up, my Mighty Mouse, which was plugged into one of the USB port on the back of my monitor, was no longer recognized by my G5. What's more, my JumpDrive, which was plugged into the USB port on the front of G5 itself, was no longer recognized either.
I called Apple and they had me reset the PMU to no avail, so they suggested that I take the unit into the local Apple Store, which I did. When they booted the unit, sans monitor, and plugged in a Mighty Mouse, the red light on the device came right on. They tested it in all three USB ports and it worked perfectly in each one. I felt like a fool. When I brought the unit back and plugged everything in, no USB connectivity. So, I experimented. USB devices only work when the USB and Firewire cords coming from the Cinema Display are not plugged into the back of the G5. Sometimes, if the monitor's USB cord is plugged in and titled just right, I have USB connectivity.
This is driving me mad. Is it the G5? Is it the Cinema Display? Is it a software issue? Please . . . HELP!
    Best Wishes,
    Victor

    Hi
I'm not sure how many USB controllers the G5 has, but assuming it's one and all the USB ports share the same controller, plugging in the monitor's USB cord seems to be stopping the controller (and hence all the ports) from working.
If you plug the mouse into the same USB port that you normally plug the monitor into, does it still work? If so, the problem would seem to be with the monitor USB cord or the USB hub in the monitor. If not, the problem would seem to be with the USB port itself. The fact it sometimes works if the connector is tilted seems to suggest a physical problem with that particular USB port or the USB connector on the monitor cord. Perhaps someone's caught their foot in the cable at some point and yanked or twisted the connector.

  • I make RAW USB driver by VISA i'm stuck in MAX detect my device

according to USB Instrument Control Tutorial i'm trying to make a driver by VISA
NI-MAX doesn't detect my device and i stuck here please help me

It is often a big mistake to try and create your own driver. What is the device? Did the vendor not provide a driver for you to use? How does the device appear in windows device manager?

    Thanks.

    Hi Kasturi,
    > not accepting the points
It worked on this and on one other thread, but this is still open: How to upload the image
    > want upload the images from the client side machine
    > to KM
In the thread I just referred to, I already provided information about the HTMLB upload control. With this at hand, you'll get the file from the client to the server.
At server side, get an ICollection instance where you want to store the file and create the corresponding resource. See https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/javadocs/nw04/sp12/knowledge management/com/sapportals/wcm/repository/icollection.html#createresource(java.lang.String,%20com.sapportals.wcm.repository.IPropertyMap,%20com.sapportals.wcm.util.content.IContent)
    Hope it helps

  • USB (Raw) - How to access VISA property: USB Bulk-Out pipe?!?

I'm trying to use my own USB device. Since I'd like to use more then one USB In/Out Endporint I need to change that Atribute in NI VISA using LabVIEW (afaik. NI VISA uses the lowest Endpoint Number as defualt).
According to LabVIEW 7.1 Help > VISA > I/O Session there is a VISA property which should be accessible via VISA Property node. That Property should be SUB Settings:USB Bulk-Out Pipe and USB Bulk-In Pipe.
Hoewever when schaning through the available properties I only get the following 4:
USB Intfc Num, USB Max Intr Size USB Port, USB Serial Num
How can I cahnge the Property USB Bulk-Out Pipe ?
    Thanx,
    Rainer

Thanks a lot - I knew it must have been some stupid small detail I didn't know ;-)
    Thanx,

  • Help for using camera raw in PSE 8/Bridge for Mac for the Canon 7D

Recently purchasing the Canon 7D, taking a few test photos in Raw, then trying to use Camera Raw in PSE8/Bridge for Mac is a problem.  I cannot figure it out.  Can anyone help this frustrated, novice computer user?

You need to update the camera raw plug-in for bridge and PSE 8 separately (they use two different copies). In Bridge, just go to Help>Updates which will install, I think, ACR 5.7, which  works with your camera. (You can't update bridge beyond that version).
For PSE 8, go here, download the latest version and follow the instructions in the readme file.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=40&platform=Macintosh
Note that the directions may tell you that you can overwrite the old plug-in. That isn't true--you must remove it before putting the new one in there.

  • Unknown USB Device in Windows - VISA does not see it

    Hello,
I'm trying to connect my STM microcontroller to my computer using USB protocol and VISA software. When I plug STM USB device into USB port Windows sees it as unknown device and can not find any driver for it. I assume that this is situation VISA was created for. So I want to use a driver wizard to create driver for this device, but VISA does not display it in a device list. I tried to create and install driver for my device as if it was not connected, and installed created driver manually but it did not work.
Is it possible that Windows detects a USB device and VISA can't see it?

It actually depends what sort of USB device it should be. If it is a COMM USB class device, Windows should be able to pick it up directly as serial port, if it is some proprietary USB class, then you either have to get a driver installed and access that driver somehow, or create an INF file with the VISA driver wizard for it and write the driver yourself in LabVIEW using the VISA USB Raw interface. Without a very good description of the low level USB protocol however this last option is a complete no go.
If the VISA driver wizard doesn't display the device in the list then Windows has already claimed it somehow.

  • Can't mount usb devices as a normal user

    Hi.
I woud like to ask for help. I've been struggling with some "bug" that i came with Arch and usb devices (disks, pendrives). I can't mount it as a normal user using KDE default mounting software (Dolphin, for an exmample). I can mount it only in therminal by using sudo privileages. Is there a way to fix it? I read it, the same problem:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=180025
I tried to check everything according this topic, also with udisk2 archwiki thread but on my desktop machine i just can't mount usb devices without root password. This is how the error looks like for a Dolphin:
<Over sized Image removed. URL link preserved>
This is the error, from picture
Error when trying to use acces to "removable device 7,5GB". System showed: The requested operation has failed. Error checking authorization:
    GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1.Error.Failed: action org.freedesktop.udisks2.filesystem-mount is not registered (polkit-error-quark, 0)
Could somebody help me? I even installed udisk mounting tool to mont without root password, added 50-udisks.policy and it just does not work.
    Help.
I can mount it wit terminal by typing
    sudo mount /dev/sdXY /mnt/usb
than i'm asked for password and it is mounted. Don't know why i can't mount it without password when connecting usb devices to usb port.

  • Help with USB device configuration

    Hi, LabVIEW 2009, Windows 7, x86
    1. I have just connected a USB Hanna HI3221 pH meter to the computer above.
    2. The device shows up in the Windows Control Panel as working properly and identified as an HI3221.
    3. I rebooted the computer, logged in again etc.
    4. I start the "NI Device Monitor".
    5. I plug in the USB Device and unfortunately as described on page 3 here
    http://digital.ni.com/manuals.nsf/websearch/231F4BE79F2F7CB58625758300711E6E
I do not get prompted to begin a measurement with the device, to begin an application with the device, etc.
I don't see the device in MAX either.
Although I can browse other connected USB devices as VISA resources in LabVIEW, eg. a USB Agilent U2355a as "USB0::2391::4888::TW48052027::0::INSTR", I cannot see this USB device.
Can anyone throw any light as to how I can configure up this device?
    Thanks in advance
    Mike

    Hi mike
Max is developed for NI hard ware and hence the
drivers are primarily designed for NI products. As the hard ware is third party
it is possible to create a driver using the VISA Driver Development Wizard .
Once created search for the device in MAX .
See the link posted below for a tutorial on USB
    control.
