Manual tabular form and query based LOV

Happy new year everyone!
Okay so, I've run into an error when making one of the fields in a tabular form into a select list.
report error:
ORA-20001: Error fetching column value: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
The query works fine in SQL Workshop and Toad, it returns over 100 rows.
I have tried to use a Popup LOV, which works but I'd like to know what is going wrong with the select list.
We're using version 3.0.1.00.07 of apex, for what it's worth.
Help appreciated!

Keiran,
In the select list there is a display value and a return value.
The return value is the Foreign Key and the Display value is what is displayed in the LOV.
Are you getting these the wrong way round ?
I usually put the return value first and alias is with r and put the display value second and alias the display value with d.

My problem is that I don't want to show the columns hidden_pk and hidden_cb1. But if I set them to not shown they are not parsed in my html page. Maybe that's all natural but how do I handle this problem??

Sort Nulls First with Manual Tabular Form????

I just created a manual tabular form and it appears to be in working order. Now I need to order the report results on 2 columns (which I have working using the sort sequence in the column attributes), but I also need the blank row (added row) to appear on top of the results.
What do I need to do to add the blank row on top?? Sort Null: First does not work in my case.

Manual Tabular Form Problem

Apex 3.2
I have written a manual tabular form and it has a validation to check if a column contains negative numbers.
If it does then it returns a validation error.
I also have the same validation in my database procedure which raises
RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR(-20000, 'The update procedure does not accept negative numbers.');My problem is withmy page validation.
If the column value was 16 and the user types in, eg, -12, then the validation fires and returns the message.
The problem is that once the message is returned, the column value is reset to the original value, eg, 16.
If I disable my page validation and use my database exception.
Then the error message from the database displays. If I click ok, then the form displays the new value, eg, -12.
I want to use my page validation, but I need the page to show the new value.
I have made all my processes and branches conditional to run only if there are no inline validations displayed,
but this did not affect anything.

One of the differences between version 3 and 4 is that retaintion/caching of the changed values in tabular forms.
In other words in apex 4 the builder takes care of showing the new changed value.
By not fetching the data from the database on a validation error.
Where as in Apex 3 you have to do that when there is a validation error and the message is shown on the same page.
The report fetches the data from the database even when there is a validation error.
There are 2 options
1) Let the validation message be shown on the error page. Going back in the browser history doesn't fetch the data form the database up on rerendering.
This option is mentioned in the thread the demo was inspired by.
2) Work with a collection. Where you take care of the caching. This method gives the posibility to so multiple validation messages where as the "show on error page" shows only one validation message.

Primary key column in manual tabular form

I am creating a manual tabular form and am unsure what to do for my primary key column. When I do this with the wizard, I'm allowed to specifiy a Primary Key Source Type and the Primary Key Source (my sequence). Is there a way to do this in a manual tabular form?
I'm creating the column with the call 'wwv_flow_item.display_and_save(2,hours_id) hours_id' but when I edit the 'Tabular Form Element' section, I don't have the Primary Key fields anywhere to edit...only Reference Table Owner, Reference Table/Column Name. Where can I specify the sequence?

In the process ApplyMRD, try specifying the 'Secondary Key Column' in the section 'Source: Multi Row Update and Delete' to the second key column in the tabular form.
I haven't tested this with your situation, but worth a shot.

Select query based LOV for tabular form attributes

Congrats u all for the new release of HTMLDB in htmldb.oracle.com.
I badly need a solution of the below problem.
Say , i have table called user_col_comments now i want to display the table_name ,column_name and comments in a tabular form.I displayed only one row for the tabular form.Now i create a select query based LOV for attribute table_name where i got all table_name in drop down list.
Point is that after selecting any data from drop down table list i want to get the corresponding fields to be populated in column_name attributes.How can i wrote the select query based LOV for the attibute column_name.
I wrote it as 'select column_name d,column_name r from user_col_comments where table_name=:TABLE_NAME Its not working?
Similarly i want same thing to display for comments after matching both table_name and column_name.
Any solution to get rid of those problem will be highly appreciable...

Tabular form (select list Query based LOV)

Hi all,
I have this situation:
a tabular form with two "select list (query based LOV)" fields.
The first one must affect elements in the second one. And so the second query based LOV field should has a "where attr1 = first_list_selected_value" in the query.
Is this possible ? Could you show me some advices ?

I need cascading LOV for each row of my tabular form.
I have a EMP tabular form

Apex_item.radiogroup using an LOV in a manual tabular form

I'm on APEX 4.0.0.00.46 and I'm sure there must be an obvious solution that I'm missing here, but I'm having a problem setting up an apex_item.radiogroup on a manual tabular form. This is the basic query that I'm using:
select apex_item.radiogroup(37,my_field) as my_field
from my_table
When I use the above query as my Region Source, it compiles fine. However, it seems as though the query won't pull in the value that currently exists in the table unless I set the Column Attribute called 'Display As' for the field to 'Standard Report Column'. When I do this, it seems to remove the capability to incorporate a LOV into the radio group. I'm attempting to incorporate a query like this into the radiogroup:
select 'YES' d, 'Y' r
from dual
UNION ALL
select 'NO' d, 'N' r
from dual
So, to recap, I can set up a Radio Group (query based LOV), but if I do, the query of the table will not pull in the current value from the table. If I change the 'Display As' Column Attribute to 'Standard Report Column', I can no longer incorporate the LOV. Please help if you have any ideas.

Select List (query based LOV) in a wizard created report form

I have created an updatable report form with 3 columns:
app_id
user_id
group_id
Each app_id has multiple group_id's associated with it, and I want to show the group_id field as a Select List (query based LOV) that contains the groups associated with the app_id.
My query for the select list needs to be similar to the following:
SELECT DISPLAY_NAME, GROUP_ID
FROM APPLICATION_GROUPS
WHERE APP_ID = ?????
ORDER BY 1
The problem is, I don't know how to reference the app_id from the main report to replace the ?????.
In other words, if my report returns 2 rows of data like this:
app_id----------user_id----------group_id
1-----------------24------------------3
2-----------------24------------------15
Then how do I get the group_id column to be a select list of possible groups for each application? If app_id 1 has 3 groups associated with it, 3, 4, & 5 and app_id 2 has 2 groups associated with it, 15 & 16, then those each of the select lists should be based on the app_id.

Thanks for the response, but I don't think you quite understand my problem. If I go to the Column Attributes screen for the group_id field, I have the "Display As" drop down set to "Select List (query based LOV)", not "Select List (named LOV)". This requires that the sql query be written in the "List of values definition" text area below. Within that text area I have the following query:
SELECT DISPLAY_NAME, GROUP_ID
FROM APPLICATION_GROUPS
WHERE APP_ID = ?????
ORDER BY 1
The APP_ID that I need to reference is for the current row of data that is being processed. Therefore, I can't use a :PNNN_APP_ID variable, because that field does not exist on the page.

Select List in Manual Tabular Form based on a previous column

I have a manual tabular form that have several columns One column (vendor) is a select list that should be based on a previous column (Vendor Type - Internal/External). So if the user selects Internal for Vendor Type, the Vendor column's select list should only contain those vendors with type of Internal. By the way, it also uses APEX collections.

Display select list from query on manual tabular form

I got so frustrated I started over. I'm following the how to create a manual form.

The problem I'm now having is even though I display items as hidden, there is a column holder on the report for them. If I go into the report attributes and toggle the show attribute off I cannot reference an items value in my logic. I used /&nbsp/ for the column heading but I still get the little sort arrow where the column heading should be. I tried to toggle the sort attribute off but the sort arrow still shows up. How can I use the apex_item.hidden and not get a place holder for the column on a report? Thanks, Elizabeth

My requirement is i created a tabular form manually using apex collection but if i click on add row button then previously selected data refreshed and added new row in this form it is fine.but i don't want to refreshed previously selected data and click on add row button then add new row .how it is possible? plz help

I understand that the add row button is currently doing a submit.
To not submit the page you need a dynamic action on the page.
Does the javascript function addRow do what you want?
Otherwise have a look at the following two threads Add row in manual tabular form using dynamic action and Accessing Tabular Form & Add Elements to Collection without Page Submit.
You're process could be something like:
Add the new values to the collection using the idea's in the second thread and at the same time add the new row.
And as second action refresh your tabular form.
If you get stuck set up what you have done on apex.oracle.com using the tables from the demo application.

I have checked the option 'Use Generic Column Names (parse query at runtime only)' under source and the type is SQL query(pl/sql function body returning sql query)
in this the 3 page items are P7_PROJ_REF,P7_RELEASE_ID and P7_EMPLOYEE.
Now i have created a button which unconditionally branches to the same page and submits the page so on clicking it the data should be generated. I am getting the 'no data found' when the page items are blank but when i am passing legit data in the items(btw, all three are pop-up LOV's), i am getting an error
failed to parse SQL query:
ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended.
Please I have been working for hours but not getting the solution...

Put your actual query in the report region SQL Query box, Specifying SQL Query as opposed to Function Returning SQl Query

Apex Manual tabular form

I am new to Apex and am making a timesheet application. I have 2 main tables which I am using and their structures are as follows:

Now I have to create a manual tabular form based on data from these 2 tables and either insert or update data into the timesheet table.
The page structure is such that I have created page items for emp_id, proj_ref and rel_id(all are LOV’s). And there is a button that submits the page. So when the user inputs the data and clicks on submit, the report whose source code is as follows shows up with data from both tables:

Now this query is working fine. The data in the tb_opmi_proj_act_map is basically the activities mapped on each project reference and release id.
Now when there is no corresponding data for the emp_id,proj_ref,rel_id and act_code in the main timesheet table, even then I need to generate to a tabular form structure with all the activities listed for the input proj_ref and rel_id and the 8 respective columns for the days of the week and remarks for each row or activity. I don’t know how to progress and am stuck. I just had a thought of modifying my region source a bit something like this.

Also in either case, whether data is generated from the join if already existing or if no data exists, I need to then insert the data or update it accordingly and have no idea how to proceed.
I know the solution will be a lengthy one but please its urgent and I am stuck. Please any help would be greatly appreciated.
