MapViewer: how to manage user selections in business components Java class

Hi list,
I'm a GIS developer with experience on Mapserver and Mapguide. Buit I'm totally new on Oracle Mapviewer and I'm doing a feasibility study on a project where I basically have a very simple GIS use case, but I don't know if it is possible to manage by use Oracle ADF Java API and Oracle Mapviewer.
I would like to use JDeveloper / ADF Business Components / ADF Faces.
This is the use case:
- Mapviewer should display a polygon layer from Oracle Spatial
- Mapviewer should display a polygon layer from WFS
- User should be able to select a polygon on Oracle Spatial layer and another polygon in WFS layer
- ADF Face map control should:
a) hilglight these two polygon
b) execute my buiseness component Java function passing the user selection (id?... coordinates?... or anything useful to get these two polygons in the business Java function) as parameter.
Is it possible?...
Any suggestions (or samples) for point b)?...
Thanks in advance for any help

Hi Arnd,
Thanks for answer.
Can you adreess me to some ADF project that include ADF Geographic Map control?
I've carefully studied what explained in manuls contained in JDeveloper Help. I've made something, but I have some issue I can't solve.
Here you are in details what I've made:
1) I've installed Mapviewer Quick Starter Kit
2) I've configured themes and base map by use on MapBuilder
3) I've built an ADF application with separated business and model-view-controller projects
4) I've created entities and views in ADF business project
5) I've created a JSF page in model-view-controller project
6) I've put inside page an ADF Geographic Map assigning my base map and his related toolbar.
Up to now it worked fine. My problems started at this point, on the attempt to add themes to be exposed to user interaction.
PROBLEM 1
I've seen that there are basically two options to add theme for user interaction:
a) add a predefined themes
b) add a color/point/graph bindable themes
Option b) seems not fit for my needs.
Color theme is only for regions and forces me to set a range of colors (I want to set exatctly two different color for two different table attribute value).
Lines seem not covered from any of them.
So the solution should be option a), predefined themes. But predefined theme seems not selectable and I don't know how to attach a selection listener.
Please note (about selection listener) that in JDeveloper Help, book "Web User Intercace Developer Guide", "Using ADF Geographic Component" there is a code sample, but the explaination on how to enter the backing bean method is truncated (it says "For example," and stop, nothing else).
My questions are: predefined theme can be selectable? And how can I attach the selection listener?.
PROBLEM 2
Up to now I've made no test on WFS themes, but of course, also these themes should be exposed to user interaction in the same way of predefined layers.
Is it possible?...
PROBLEM 3
Legends activated by ADF Map Toolbar seem not working for predefied themes, they display nothing.
Is it possible to fix or workaround in some way?...
PROBLEM 4
Are there any way to print maps?...
Best regards
Francesco

  • How to  get the profile object in simple java class  (Property accessor)

    Hi All,
    Please guide me how to get the profile object in simple java class (Property accessor) which is extending the RepositoryPropertyDescriptor.
    I have one requirement where i need the profile object i.e i have store id which is tied to profile .so i need the profile object in the property accessor of the SKU item descriptor property, which is extending RepositoryPropertyDescriptor.
    a.I dont have request object also to do request.resolvename.
    b.It is not a component to create setter and getter.It is simple java class which is extending the RepositoryPropertyDescriptor.
    Advance Thanks.

    Iam afraid you might run into synchronization issues with it. You are trying to get/set value of property of a sku repository item that is shared across various profiles.
    Say one profile A called setPropertyValue("propertyName", value).Now another profile B accesses
    getPropertyValue() {
    super.getPropertyValue() // Chance of getting value set by Profile A.
    // Perform logic
    There is a chance that profile B getting the value set by Profile A and hence inconsistency.
    How about doing this way??
    Create PropertyDescriptor in Profile (i.e user item descriptor), pass the attribute CustomCatalogTools in userProfile.xml to that property.
    <attribute name="catalogTools" value="atg.commerce.catalog.CustomCatalogTools"/>
    getPropertyValue()
    //You have Profile item descriptor and also storeId property value.
    // Use CustomCatalogTools.findSku();
    // Use storeId, profile repository item, sku repository item to perform the logic
    Here user itemdescriptor getPropertyValue/setPropertyValue is always called by same profile and there is consistency.

    Is it just me, or is there a bug in the Default Project Properties Dialog when attemptiong to specify custom classes for the Business Component Base Classes.
    I have extended EntityCache and can successfully specify it as a base class via the Project Properties dialog, but in Default Project Properties, I get an error stating: "The selected class is not a valid superclass. Either is does not implement the interface oracle.jbo.server.EntityCache or it has an invalid modifier".
    FYI: My custom library has been added to the Default Project Properties->Libraries.

    Using JNI your java classes can have methods implemented in C/C++.
    Using JNI you can call java classes.
    There is no other possible interaction between C++ and java, so it does it all.

  • How to execute a jsp instruction from a java class?

    How to execute a jsp instruction from a java class?
    Any help please.
    Thank's

    I'll detail my problem:
    Supposing that I have a jsp file called: start.jsp
    In the start.jsp I instanciated an object called global from the class Global ( for example ).
    Then, I called a custom taglib:
    <ix:mytag/>
    In the suitable tld file: the mytag is defined:
    <tag>
    <tag class>Tag1<.....
    The java file Tag1 has method:
    doStartTag(){
    // here is the problem
    global.doSomeFunctions();
    Okay, the problem is that the object gobal is not defined in the class Tag1. what to do?
    I think that I have to pass the object global as a parameter to the class Tag1. How to do that?
    Actually, the problem was to insert the follwoing in the doStartTag method:
    doStartTag(){
    pageContext.getOut().print("<%= hello world %>");
    The output is <%= hello world %> not hello world.
    Okay, the new problem is how to pass an object as a parameter to a class called from a tld file.

  • SSO and how to Managing User Roles/Privileges with Forms using Oracle db

    We are in the process of implementing Oracle Application Server SSO with our custom Forms application using Oracle database -- all 10.2.0.1.0 version.
    In our Forms Applications, we have about a dozen roles we have assigned to various users. We need to identify each user using our Forms because we are using the GLOBAL USER throughout the application.
    Questions:
    -- Do we have to create users/passwords in both OID and application database?
    -- Is there a way to easily manage the user and passwords between SSO and Forms App/database in one place? For example, how does a user change their password once, but actually change it in both the database and SSO?
    Any advice and/or direction would be greatly appreciated.

    Yes, you can have global roles in the DB and assign this roles to specific OID users, and the will heritage the privilages, you can do this using Oracle Identity Management Web Tool http://hostname:7777/oiddas is not complicated.

  • How to manage users centally in OEM

    Hi All,
    I am using OEM 12.1.0.1.0, I want to manage users centrally. Actually what I want is I may create user in my external LDAP and the created users appears in OEM also which I can use for say notification purpose. I want every property of the user defined in external LDAP like.. email address etc to get appeared in OEM. Here I am using embedded LDAP which comes by default with WebLogic server. Can anyone suggest me the correct steps to achieve this.
    Thanks in Advance!!

    Hi Roshni,
    Have you read the Enterprise Manager 12c documentation on Security configuration? http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/doc.121/e24473/security.htm#BABGAGIJ
    It lists the steps to set up users with external authentication such as LDAP. I don't know if additional user properties such as email will appear in EM though.
    I am working on something similar but using AD authentication instead.

    If user selected process1 or process2 then I need to call stored procedure right before the commit. So i need to pass the user selected process to entity class file.
    I am thinking about having a transient attribute on entity and set the value on front end..... so that value will be pass to the entity class file and in beforeCommit method i can check the value of transient variable and then call stored procedure
    is this a good approach or any other suggestions are greatly appreciated....

  • How to pass an argument to a standalone java class in JDeveloper

    To the experienced:
    In JDeveloper when you write a java class with a main() method that takes no argument, you just right click the java file and select Run to run the program. But suppose the main() method takes arguments, how do you pass your arguments to the program? This is especially a problem as I use the studio version of JDeveloper (Versions 10.1.3.4 and 11.1.1.3) that each uses the version of JDK bundled with it, rather than the JDK (which is yet another different version) installed at the OS level of the PC.
    Many thanks for your help!

    Hi, Puthanampatti,
    Suppose a java class has a main() method:
    <pre>
    public class FormatTerm {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    String year = args[0];
    String semester = args[1];
    </pre>
    What I want to know is how to pass the arguments when invoking FormatTerm within JDeveloper (i.e., without going out of JDeveloper to invoke FormatTerm on a command line in DOS). I would appreciate it very much if you know how to do that in JDeveloper 11g (I use Version 11.1.1.3) and could help me out.
    Thank you very much for your help!

  • User defined Exception in Stateless Java Class WS

    Hi,
    I'm experimenting with publishing some of my application's Java classes as web services under OC4J 10.1.2. I've been quite successfull to do so, but I'm stuck into a problem trying to have my class's methods throw my own type of exception and retrieving it at the client side.
    I'm using the proxies downloaded from the web service's automatic HTML page, and I see in the source code version that the proxy class specifically throws a org.apache.soap.SOAPException whenever there's a fault in the response message.
    What I've done is simply to create a type derived from Exception with a String (message) and an Integer (code) properties, with just my own constructor that accepts two parameters corresponding to that properties. Then I make the methods in my Java class throw that exception.
    I've tried both using both an Interface and a class, and also using just a class as parameters to StatelessWebServiceServlet / Web Service Assembler.
    I can't find anywhere in any docs that explains how this can be done in OC4J. I believe that throwing user-defined exceptions is included in J2EE 1.4 and so I think that there should be a way to do it in OC4J if it is compliant. Maybe there's no way, but I couldn't find any reference to that neither.
    I'll greatly appreciate any light on this issue.
    Thanks in advance

    Thank you for your answer.
    I'd like to know something more about how far does that limited support go, in case it could be of some use.
    On the other hand, and just for the sake of constructive discussion, though I've contemplated the option of encoding error conditions on the result type, I always found that to be an ugly style from a interface design standpoint (not ws specifically but in general system desing terms), and when I saw a standard way to communicate custom error information separated from normal response I thought it to be the right way to go. After all, exceptions are just the way Java implements this design principle that has also found a place in most currently successful software environments (PL/SQL, .Net, ...).
    I don't expect to extend the meaning and programmatic use of Java exceptions to my ws clients, but to be able to communicate detailed error condition information as the standards contemplate (faults), which as I understand from your kind answer is out of my reach in 10.1.2.
    I have no experience with other ws platforms but I'd like to believe that if wsdl:fault is in the standards, those claming compliance will support it to the extent necessary to make it usable and interoperable as it is the way the standard covers error communication (and so that's why it is included in 10.1.3). I also beleve this would bring better interoperability than our home-made result types including error information, that no other application without our custom specifications can understand.
    Also better interoperability would come from that than for example what I now see in 10.1.2, where all exceptions are communicated to the client with a faultcode of soap:Server, which I believe to have the standard meaning that there's a chance for the client to success retrying later without modifying it's request. This translation could be better suited for Java errors (unrecoverable) but not for all kinds of exceptions, and so in this question, custom exception support could also improve interoperability with systems that interpret SOAP fault codes.
    Thank you.

  • How to represent XML inline tags in a Java class

    Dear all,
    I am currently dealing with the issue of how to transform an XML document into a Java representation. As far as the strucural elements are concerned, I'd represent them each one of them as a Java class. However, the XML structure also allows for inline tags, i.e. elements which specify formatting information for the text. I am looking for good ideas for how to best represent these in my Java class(es).
    Let's use an example. Suppose I have something like this:
    <root>
       <structure>A piece of text</structure>
       <moreStructure>A piece of <b>bold</b> text</moreStructure>
       <finalStructure>A piece of <inlineTag att="value"> more text!</inlineTag>   </finalStructure>
    </root>I this case I would build four classes for the strucural elements. But how do I represent <b> and <inlineTag>? In my XML documents I have several such inline tags, each of which may also have a bunch of attributes. I am sure this has been solved cleverly before. Any help greatly appreciated.
    Best regards,
    N.

    The XML term for "containing tags and text" is "mixed content". And XML designers generally don't care much for mixed content. You're finding out one of the reasons for that right now. They aren't elegant or clever, just inconvenient.
    However sometimes you have to deal with ugly structures. This is one of them. I would represent mixed content as a list, just as you already thought of. The elements in this list would be either text or elements. So in this example:<moreStructure>A piece of <b>bold</b> text</moreStructure>you would have three entries:
    1. Text "A piece of "
    2. A <b> element
    3. Text " text"
    And when retrieving from that list you would have to use "instanceof" to see if you had a String or an element of some kind.
    And if "standalone tags" versus "paired tags" is a complication, then you're looking at it wrong. XML doesn't care much about tags. Tags only exist to delimit an element, and you should be looking at elements.
    I'm guessing at your non-standard terminology here: a "standalone tag" is an empty element like
    , right? And "paired tags" means a non-empty element like <this>that</this>? They're all elements. The first is a "br" element and the second is a "this" element.
