Master/detail termination order

In a master/detail process, with their own START and END activities, does the workflow end when any activity reaches its END, or when all activities reach their END.

If you are talking about master/detail processes using the Wait for Flow and Continue Flow coordination activities, then when you spawn a detail process from a master process, you are actually creating a separate process with its own unique item type and item key. The master and detail processes interact at the point of the coordination activities, but they can also have additional activities after those points and will each end only at their own END activities. See the example in the Oracle Workflow Developer's Guide:

  • Master-detail processing order

    Hi,
    What is the sequence that detail groups are processed? Is it from top till bottom or is there some sorting involved.
    We have a wizard that consists of three pages/steps and and has been defined by a master with two details groups. How can we make sure that the two details groups are always processed in the correct order (i.e. top one first)?
    Ciao
    Aino

    Aino,
    They should be processed in the order they are sequenced in the app def file. If that doesn't happen, it looks like a bug. As a work around, you can try to use regions: create one item region for all items in the parent, and two group regions for the detail groups, and set the region container layout style to "separatePages".

  • What is the proper way to record line numbers in Master/Detail records?

    Guys and Gals,
    Been thinking about this for awhile, but thought it best to ask the people who really know what they are doing.
    What is the proper way to record & show line numbers in a Master / Detail record set?
    For example, take Master/Detail relationship Orders and OrderItems. Orders has a column Document_Number and OrderItems has Document_Number, Line_Number. Line_Number should contain the row number 1,2,3,4 ... etc. for each row in a document.
    Should I ...
    <ol><li>Add a sequence and a trigger in the database? The FusionOrderDemo does this, but then the sequence never "resets" and I've got row numbers that keep incrementing. So one document has rows 4,5,6 and the next document has 7,8,9 when they should both have 1,2,3.</li>
    <li>Programmatically take care of the row numbers? This seems like I'm asking for trouble. Anytime an insert or delete operation gets done, I'll have to iterate through rows and re-assign row numbers.</li>
    <li>Is there a way to assign row numbers in a table iterator (or data collection?) to an entity?</li></ol>
    Any suggestions would be appreciated. It's looking like #2 is my only option, but if anyone knows different I'd love the input.
    Will

    Thank you both guys.
    As John said, I believe I'm looking for a gap-free sequence per master record.
    The line number of the OrderItems table is the second half of the primary key. The first half of the primary key (DocumentNumber) is the foreign key to the Orders table.
    Think of it like line items on an order or invoice. For example, if you were talking to someone on the phone concerning an invoice, you might say, "The pricing for line item #3 is incorrect." In this case, it's good to have a common reference. Or imagine a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet with no row numbers displayed! You'd never get anywhere if you had to explain something over the phone.
    If this is tricky to perform, I take it using a sequence and trigger such as the Fusion Order Demo is the best way to approach the challenge for simplicity's sake?

  • Inconsistent inserts into detail table of master-detail form

    Hello,
    [I am not sure if this is a bug or user error, so I've also put this in the bug tracking system.  Apologize for the 'duplication']
    I have a master-detail form: Orders is the master, and Order_Details is the detail. I have noticed some inconsistent behavior when inserting the detail information.
    On occasion, the row will be inserted, and a null value will get inserted into the database for the first column of the detail table; all the other data values will be inserted fine. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to when it happens. I wrote down the following test steps:
    1. Enter new order information and click 'Create'
    2. Click 'Add Row' button so can add order detail info
    3. Enter detail row information
    4. Click 'Add Row' (I do this so I can see the success message that the detail data was actually inserted)
    5. Click 'Apply Changes' at the master level.
    I ran a query on the order details table and saw that the data inserted correctly. Then I ran the following test:
    1. Enter new order information and click 'Create'
    2. Click Add Row button so can add order detail info
    3. Enter detail row information
    4. Click 'Add Row' (success message appears that detail was inserted)
    5. Enter second detail row information
    6. Click 'Add Row' (success message appears that detail was inserted, however, now in the first column of that second detail row - the product name field/column - the data does not appear. I only see my null text value. The data in the first detail row is all correct)
    7. Enter third row detail information
    8. Click 'Add Row' (success message appears that detail was inserted, and this row's information appears correctly, as does the first row's, but the second row is still showing a null value for the product name column)
    9. Click 'Apply Changes' to get out of the form
    A query of the order details table shows that a null value (-) has indeed been inserted into the table for the product name column of the second detail row.
    This behavior also happens when I don't have a null value for the LOV (i.e., it defaults to the first row of the lookup table).
    Has anyone seen this before? Am I entering the data incorrectly?
    Thanks.

  • Obiee 11g - Master/detail : How to initialize details ?

    Hi gurus,
    I'm using the last version of obiee.
    I have a dashboard with master/detail. The master/details are working great when I click on cells.
    But I have some "initialization" problems.
    - master/detail with a prompt list on the master table
    a change on the list won't initialize the detail. I would like to have the detail refreshed with the first row of the master.
    - master/detail with different order by on master and detail
    the initialization value of the detail does not fit with the first row of the master.
    Is it possible to achieve this ?
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Dpka,
    Thanks for sharing your view . I ,even observe the same 'error' message returining false value at the bottom-left of my browser when set up the Master detail even and clicked my table column to reflect the value in the graph .
    But my situation is bit tricky . I can't expose two different views to see if separating the interaction works well or not . In my case I have only 1 report with 4 compound layout(with pivot table(master) and Graph(detail)) having view selector . So this is practically not separable as this incurs loss of other functionalities.
    Do you have any suggestion in mind . I tried to see Supportweb and doesn't have any valid bug reported :(

  • Refresh of Master/Detail does not work after validation failure

    After page validation stops further page processing of a Master Detail page,  I get the following Oracle Error on display of the Detail portion :
    <code>
    ORA:01445: Cannot select ROWID from, or sample, a join view without a key preserved table.
    ORA-06510 - PL/SQL unhandled user-defined exception.
    </code>
    Any clues as to why this might occur?  The Master portion of the page displays fine along with the appropriate custom validation error message. It is just the detail portion (from a SQL based report) that is causing the problem.  I do not use a ROWID either!
    Thanks!

    Just an FYI for everybody who may have this very same problem in the future.  I fixed the error and it had nothing to do with ROWID or views or anything like that.  Under the Page Rendering section where you define the region definition under the source section, I had included the 'order by' clause in my SQL statement.  This was the cause of my ORA-01445 error!  When I removed the clause from the source definition and instead included it within the Report Attributes by checking the Sort box for the appropriate column (thus allowing APEX to generate the sort for me), the error disappeared!  The Oracle error message would NEVER have given me a clue into what caused the error.  I just happened to think 'what if I take the order by clause out'!  How's that for a flukey fix!

  • Problem on Master Detail CRUD

    Dear All,
    I am trying to figure out how ADFBC handles Master Detail relationship as this
    is the first time where I need to handle table relationship.
    From practice, I only used one table but this time I need to manage the relationship also.
    I have two tables below. They have a one to many relationship.
    PART_ID in the PARTS_CODE table is populated by a DB sequence.
    PARTS_CODE                                   PART_DESC
         - PART_ID (PK)                              - PART_ID (PK)
         - RANGE                                   - REGION  (PK)
         - CATEGORY                              - DESCUse Case is like this:
    PARTS_CODE table holds the data on the parts while PARTS_DESC holds the information on the Region specific description of the parts.
    Now I created a View object that joins the two tables. Then I drag this View Object from
    my Data Control as an update-able table.
    I just have some questions on the implementations:
    1. When I drag the CreateInsert button and click it, I notice that it adds a new row to the
         table but I notice that it creates Input Text component only on the columns associated with
         the PARTS_CODE Table, the other columns for the PART_DESC does not have any UI components.
         How to solve this?
    2. How can I manage the relationship such that when it inserts the data on the PARTS_CODE, I need
         to get the DB sequence generated number and insert it into the PART_DESC table
    3. Any demo/links that shows CRUD operations that involves master detail tables?
    I have searched the forum for Master-Detail Crud but I only see how to display the relationship and not
    the CRUD operations.
    Found this blog also http://andrejusb.blogspot.com/2009/03/create-operation-for-master-detail.html but
    I am having trouble fully understanding it yet.

    Hi,
    Which of the following is your case scenario?
    1) By pressing CreateInsert, You want to have one new row with data from both tables?
    For this, You should make the reference entity to be updatable. You will find the property in the Entities level of your View Object. By creating at the same time, you have to handle the PK properly. Especially if there is a change to the PK of the master entity.
    2) Do You want to have two createInsert Buttons and press them in order?
    You have to follow the view Link

  • Master-Detail Relationship problem

    I've spent 1.5 days already trying to solve this problem. I'm creating a JClient application using BC4J with a Master-Detail relationship. The relationship between tables is a many-to-many thru an intersection table. I've gotten my master and detail data to show with columnar form data in the top(master) panel and table data in the lower(detail) panel. My problem is that each time I get a master record that contains more than one detail record, each time I click the next navigation button in the master pane it will remain on the master record for the number of detail entries. For example, if a master record has 3 children, then I must click the next button 3 times to move to the next master record. I know that it has something to do with the way the entities are joined but I can't figure out how to join them any other way. Can anyone give me a hint how I can make the master panel only show one record for each Master-Detail relationship (even though the intersection table says its a many-to-many)?
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Apparently, I was making things much more complicated than they needed to be (rather, JDev was). My first attempt at MD relationships, I followed the examples in the help files. JDev created VO's, Entities, Assoc's, View Links, etc... Everything but the kitchen sink! After researching a bunch more, I found that the only thing I needed to do was to create my view objects to display exactly what I wanted to see in my panel regardless of whether it was a parent or a child. Once I had the view objects straight, then I could connect them using a view link and JDev handled the rest. Pretty slick but, I wish there was some better documentation. My next problem is that I'm trying to make this a Master-Detail-Detail-Detail window. The master needs to be a JComboBox, displays only a date, and needs to appear in the same panel as it's child. The 1st child will have a navbar that cycles through a bunch of orders based on the date from the combo box. The order panel's child is in the lower panel and displays the order detail items. It also has a navbar. The lower detail panel needs to have a split pane with the upper part showing the order detail and the lower part showing the materials used in making up that order detail item.
    So far, I've got the first 3 parts done (ie. combobox, orders, and details). For the combobox, I used a JComboBox navigationbinding. It shows the correct date, but my control is always disabled. I can't figure out why the combobox is always disabled. The enabled property is set to true. Anbody have any clues?
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • Master & Detail Pages

    Hello all,
    I am asking for help on creating Master - Detail pages. I am using Wamp version 2. Database name "TestingCo" with 3 tables:
    Users:      user_id                int(4)           Primary_Key
                   user_fname          varchar(30)
                   user_lname          varchar(30)
                   user_license_id    int(4)
                   user_pix_id          int(4)
    Licenses: license_id           int(4)             Primary_Key
                   license_no          varchar(10)
    Pictures:  pix_id                 int(4)             Primary_Key
                   pix_url                varchar(50)
    1. I create a recordset called: rsMasterDetail:
         * with all fields from all 3 tables.
         * Where users.user_pix_id = pictures.pix_id AND users.user_license_id = licenses.license_id
         * Order By users.urser_fname
    2. On Master page, I insert Master Detail Page Set:
         * Master page fields: All fields from rsMasterDetail recordset.
         * Link to Detail from: user_id          / later I tried: user_fname
         * Pass unique key:   user_id          / later I tried: one by one from each field of Users table.
         * Show: All records
         * Detail page name:     Detailpage.php
         * Detail page fields:     All from rsMasterDetail recordset.
    3. Result: (I always get the same result as below).
         * Masterpage.php - perfect - All correct display between 3 relational tables
         (*) Detailpage.php - when I click on any link from the Masterpage.php:
              - All the fields from Users table are displayed correctly depending on which link I clicked on Masterpage.php
              (+) The fields from table Licenses are displayed the first row only (1st record of the table.)???????????????
              (+) The fields from tabel Pictures are displayed the first row only???????????????
    A. When I built the rsMasterDetail recordset, I test it and the result is good.
    B. The masterpage.php shows all fields in perfect order.
    There must be something wrong when the information passes from Master page to Detail page!??!!???
    Please help me!
    Thank you

    Hi Lon,
    When I test it, the tables relationship is perfect since all three tables line up correctly on the masterpage.php. If there is problem with tables relationship, I should also have such problem with the masterpage.php.
    I, once tried to build another recordset called: rsTest. This time I had only 2 tables: Users and Licenses. The result was the same; only the first row of the licenses table would show on the detailpage.php; while the masterpage.php the rows on both tables line up correctly.
    I have tried many ways to find solutions unsuccessfully. What I get so far is:
    * The recordset is display correctly every single time when I click the "Test" button, as well as on the masterpage.php (I meant the tables relationship).
    * When the link on the masterpage.php is clicked, the detailpage.php supposes come up and display all rows of 3 tables of the linked record. However, all rows of the 1st table are correctly displayed, and the other table(s) only show its first row regardless which link on the Masterpage.php was clicked.
    I hope you and others gurus can help me out.
    I appreciate your help.

  • Creating master detail rows

    using adf/bc with jsf. I have defined a master detail relationship between two entities. This relationship is a composition relationship. The entities are related by a view link which link the master and detail view objects. i have a need to create/insert a master row and a detail row programmatically "on the fly" so that when the jsp renders, the user will see blank inputs for both the master and detail view objects. The problem is that the primary key of the master record is not known at creation time ( it will be entered by the user) and therefore the detail record cannot be created by the framework because of the unknown value of the parent's primary key. I was hoping the following section in the adf guide would eliminate my problem, but it doesn't appear to:
    This is from section 26.7.3.2 of the adf developer's guide
    Note: An alternative to the programmatic technique discussed
    above, which solves the problem at the J2EE application layer, is the
    use of deferrable constraints at the database layer. If you have control
    over your database schema, consider defining (or altering) your
    foreign key constraints to be DEFERRABLE INITIALLY DEFERRED.
    This causes the database to defer checking the constraint until
    transaction commit time. This allows the application to perform DML
    operations in any order provided that by COMMIT time all appropriate
    related rows have been saved and would alleviate the parent/child
    ordering described above. However, you would still need to write the
    code described in the following sections to cascade-update the foreign
    key values if the parent’s primary key is assigned from a sequence.
    This approach did not help in allowing me to create the detail record without first knowing the value of the parent's primary key record in a composition relationship. The only thing i've found to work is define the relationship as just an association, and not a composition. However, this is a true one to many (composition) relationship and i would like to take advantage of some of the features of the framework that are there when a relationship is defined as a composition relationship. Is there any way to do what i need to do with a composition relationship defined between these two entities? Thanks.

    Hi,
    I guess you need a "Cascading LOVs".
    1) Create viewObject for country values list. Named VO1.
    2) Create viewObject for state values list. Named VO2.
    3) Create view criteria for (bind variable) VO2 which can restrict the result by country.
    4) Create view accessor to get VO1.
    5) Create view accessor to get VO2. Define the bind variable value which can provide country info dynamically. I guess it should be a Groovy expression.
    6) Create country LOV on step 4) view accessor.
    7) Create state LOV on step 5) view accessor.
    Done
    On the view layer, you may enable PPR between country and state attributes.

  • How to determine the ROWNUM in a Master Detail Form

    Hello,
    I am working in a Master Detail Form with Orders and Order Items Information; and I created a process that allows the users to select a Product ID on a tabular form, and the next column is populated automatically with the Product Description.
    To achieve that, I followed some instructions by Denes Kubicek (http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=31517:241), but my case is slightly different:
    <ul>I am using a wizard-created tabular form, instead of a manual tabular form; and </ul>
    <ul>Instead of using another page as a Popup to pass the parameter of the ROWNUM, I am using a plug-in called “Tabular Form Super LOV” which is a modified version of the SkillBuilders’ Super LOV that works on Tabular Forms. </ul>
    The Product ID is returned in the correct row by the plug-in; but in the case of the Product Description, it is always returned into the first row; and my problem is that I don't know how to determine the row where the user clicked to call the plug-in.
    I set up an example in apex.oracle.com in case someone would like to look at it:
    Workspace: ediazjorge
    Username: test
    Password: test
    App Name: Sample App
    App Number: 1550
    BTW, I am using Apex 4.1.1.00.23 and Oracle DB 10.3.2.
    Thanks in advance,
    Erick

    Hello VC,
    Thank you for your time and help.
    Unfortunately, it is still not working properly:
    1. When the Popup LOV opens, the first row of the tabular form is 0, the second row is 1, and so on. How can I assign the values starting with 1 and in the format *0001* ? (I am still a novice on Apex and new to JavaScript :-), sorry about that).
    --2. Also, when I close the Popup LOV, the value of P1_ROWNUM is ‘undefined’ again so I'm not sure if the Product Name column will be populated.--
    3. And finally, you are using the jQuery Selector uPopupLOVIcon, which is an attribute of the Cloudy Theme. In my real application (Apex 4.1.1.00.26), my element looks like: *<img src="/i/lov_16x16.gif" width="16" height="16" alt="Popup Lov" alt="List" style="vertical-align:middle;" align="middle" />*. What do you recommend me to use as a jQuery Selector?
    Again, I really appreciate your help and time. I think you solved the most difficult part.
    Thank you so much,
    Erick
    Update: I just found out that the problem with my comment 2 is because I didn’t delete the previous dynamic action that set the value to P1_ROWNUM.

  • Detail Sort Field in a Master Detail Report

    Hello,
    New Apex user here. I am working with version 4.0.2.00.07. I have created a Master Detail form, and everything is working perfectly. I have one additional requirement for which I can't seem to find a good method of implementation. The detail table contains a field which I need to use for sequencing the detail records in a specific order for a given master record (this field is not the primary key). Let's say the table field is called det_seq. My question is, what is the best way to have the next incremented number added to a new record when the user clicks the "Add Row" button in the detail region? So, for instance, if there are 5 existing detail records, I want the next record added with the "Add Row" button to default the number 6 into the det_seq field. Another desirable, but not absolutely necessary, feature would be to give the end user the ability to re-order the detail records, updating the det_seq field as they do so. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Mike

    Hi Mike - welcome to ApEx!
    Could more than one user add detail rows to the same master row at one time? If so, incrementing det_seq on a click of the "Add Row" button could create duplicate det_seq values:
    User A clicks "Add Row" getting det_seq 1, and begins to enter data (doesn't yet save).
    User B clicks "Add Row" on the same master record, getting det_seq 1, and begins to enter data.
    User A saves, no problem.
    User B saves, another det_seq = 1 is saved (or an exception is thrown if you've declared det_seq to be unique within a master).
    If that could be an issue for you, one thing to consider is assigning the det_seq value from within a before-insert trigger so that:
    User A clicks "Add Row" (det_seq is null), and begins to enter data.
    User B clicks "Add Row" (det_seq is null), and begins to enter data.
    User A saves, the before-insert trigger fires assigning 1 to det_seq.
    User B saves, the before-insert trigger fires assigning 2 to det_seq.
    As far as actually getting the next value for det_seq within a given master, here's one way (assume that :MASTER_ID is an item on the master-detail form that is holding the primary key of the master table, and that your child table also has this as a foreign key back to the master table):
    SELECT NVL(MAX(det_seq), 0) + 1
      INTO l_next_det_seq
      FROM detail_table
    WHERE master_id = :MASTER_IDThe NVL takes care of the case where there are not yet any detail rows (meaning that MAX would return NULL).
    On the re-ordering feature - I can't give a lot of detail without trying it out for myself, but maybe something to look into:
    - Put a couple buttons/images/links at the end of each detail row indicating "move up"/"move down".
    - Create "move up"/"move down" page processes, and attach javascript to the buttons/images/links to fire them on a click.
    - The page processes would update the clicked row's det_seq by swapping values with the previous row's det_seq ("move up") or next row's det_seq ("move down"). The special cases of course are when the first det_seq is being moved up or the last det_seq is being moved down and they have to loop around - all of the rows det_seq's then have to swap. I'd love to see that when you've got it going!
    Hope this helps and I hope you enjoy working with ApEx,
    John

  • File Adapter with Master/Detail Use Case

    Hello,
    We are trying to model an inbound text file interface using the native format wizard to create a schema. The layout of this type of file would be fixed length with a header record followed by detail records like this:
    header1header1header1header1header1
    detail1detail1detail1detail1detail1detail1detail1detail1detail1detail1
    header2header2header2header2header2
    detail2detail2detail2detail2detail2detail2detail2detail2detail2detail2
    We tried everything to get the wizard to layout the fields in each of these formats using the multiple records, multiple types choice and with no success. Has anyone gotten this type of thing to work? The error we're getting is something about the first position of the second record needing to start after the last position of the first record which seems daft because each line is a separate record. There doesn't seem to be any detailed help on this wizard that I can find.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Here is an example of a Master/detail XML schema I made. Hope it helps.
    It would be intersting to jnow how people have implemented that.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="US-ASCII"?>
    <xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
    xmlns:nxsd="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/nxsd"
    targetNamespace="http://TargetNamespace.com/File4"
    xmlns:tns="http://TargetNamespace.com/File4"
    elementFormDefault="qualified"
    attributeFormDefault="unqualified" nxsd:encoding="US-ASCII" nxsd:stream="chars" nxsd:version="NXSD">
    <xsd:element name="Root-Element">
    <xsd:complexType>
    <xsd:sequence maxOccurs="unbounded" minOccurs="0">
    <xsd:element name="Data">
    <xsd:complexType>
    <xsd:sequence maxOccurs="unbounded" minOccurs="0">
    <xsd:element ref="tns:Master" minOccurs="0" nxsd:startsWith="MASTER," maxOccurs="unbounded"/>
    <xsd:element ref="tns:Detail" minOccurs="0" nxsd:startsWith="DETAIL," maxOccurs="unbounded"/>
    </xsd:sequence>
    </xsd:complexType>
    </xsd:element>
    </xsd:sequence>
    </xsd:complexType>
    </xsd:element>
    <!-- Master -->
    <xsd:element name="Master" type="tns:MasterType"/>
    <xsd:complexType name="MasterType">
    <xsd:sequence>
    <xsd:element name="ID" type="xsd:string" nxsd:style="terminated" nxsd:terminatedBy="," nxsd:quotedBy="&quot;">
    </xsd:element>
    <xsd:element name="MasterID" type="xsd:string" nxsd:style="terminated" nxsd:terminatedBy="," nxsd:quotedBy="&quot;">
    </xsd:element>
    <xsd:element name="A1" type="xsd:string" nxsd:style="terminated" nxsd:terminatedBy="," nxsd:quotedBy="&quot;">
    </xsd:element>
    <xsd:element name="A2" type="xsd:string" nxsd:style="terminated" nxsd:terminatedBy="," nxsd:quotedBy="&quot;">
    </xsd:element>
    <xsd:element name="A3" type="xsd:string" nxsd:style="terminated" nxsd:terminatedBy="${eol}" nxsd:quotedBy="&quot;">
    </xsd:element>
    </xsd:sequence>
    </xsd:complexType>
    <!-- Detail -->
    <xsd:element name="Detail" type="tns:DetailType"/>
    <xsd:complexType name="DetailType">
    <xsd:sequence>
    <xsd:element name="ID" type="xsd:string" nxsd:style="terminated" nxsd:terminatedBy="," nxsd:quotedBy="&quot;">
