Maximum Length of Element Names - 10.2

While defining of an XML schema in Oracle 10.2, is there any maximum limit on the number of characters that may be in an element's name? I've seen some write-ups mention 'recommendations' of 30 or 35 for earlier versions, but nothing that says there's a definite limit in v.10.2. I need to know because I have an assignment where I might need tags containing more than 35 characters. Thanks.

Hi
I already saw "long" names (don't remember exactly how much, but at least 80-100 characters...) for elements. The recommendation of 30 is probably due to the mapping of elements to object types. In fact the length of an identifier in an object type can be at most 30 characters.

  • Maximum length of member name in mapping

    Hi Experts,
    I am trying to migrate live data from Essbase to HFM version 11.1.1.3 using FDM. Maximum length of the member name of source accounts in Essbase that I have to load is upto 74 characters. What is the maximum permitted length of member names in FDM to be used in mappings?
    I was able to load the mappings that I have created into FDM using a map loader but after the map import whenever I click on any item in the map area, a page displays saying 'Application error'. When I delete all the maps, the error goes away so I guess its some issue with the length of the source account member.
    I checked the IIS logs and in the maps log I found a line saying the length of source accounts has exceeded the limit. Any suggestions about what I am trying to achieve can be done? I can not tweak anything at the Essbase side as its a live application. Please suggest.
    Thanks & Regards!

    FDM supports 75 characters in the source & target fields (v 11.1.2).
    You may have restricted characters in your member names. Check the admin guide for a list.
    And yes, this is possible. I've done it a number of times. Sorry for the brevity but hopefully this gets you moving forward.

  • Maximum length of table name

    Hi,
    I am new  to Abap. Can any one tell me what is the maximum laength of a table can be....In help.sap. i found that it is 18 characters... but when i am trying it here it is allowing to give only 16 letters... And the other error i am getting is the second character of table can´t be "_"..
    Regards,
    Shiva..

    Yes, it is a little misleading.    If you look at the data in DD02L,  there is a  table categories field in each record, notice that all names with TRANSP as the table category are 16 or less, but if you look at the INITTAB category, you will see that these can be up to 30 characters.  The INITTAB category is for structures, and we know that structure names can be up to 30 characters, which is why this field is defined like this in DD02L.
    Hope this helps.

  • Oracle 9ir2 Max length of element/field name?

    Does anyone know what the max length of a element/field name can be in Oracle 9ir2?
    thanks,
    -mcd

    Thanks.. So, the max length is still 30.. what about this:
    Is this also true for the length of element names defined in an XML schema for use by Oracle XML DB?
    There are two ways in which XDB can absorb a schema -- one that causes the XMLTYPE to be stored in a CLOB, the other causes the XMLTYPE to be broken down into relational tables behind the scenes. The latter uses the element names for the table names, so I'm assuming it would be restricted by the 30-character column name limit (unless XDB has some way of truncating the column names but preserving the element names). But what about the case where the XMLTYPE is stored in a CLOB? In theory, there's nothing limiting the length of the element name.

    Hi,
    Setting row and height is for layout purposes and not for the limiting of text in a TextEdit UI Element.
    To ensure that the Text Exit has only 40 characters in 04s - you can do as Alka has suggested.
    For doing the same in CE 7.1 - you can use the onChange Action and write code inside that method to limit the number of characters.
    I would suggest that you use IWDMessageManager to show a message in the MessageTray whenever the user goes over the limit of 40 characters - rather than accept the whole text and then show some sort of popup.
    Thanks.

  • What is maximum  length of oracle database objects name

    Hi all,
    Can anyone tell me what is maximum length of oracle database objects name .
    I guess it is 30 ,correct me if i am wrong thank you.
    regards,
    P Prakash

    Some objects (like synonyms or java classes) can have longer names than 30 chars:
    SQL> create or replace synonym empempempempempempempempempempempempemp for emp
    Synonym created.though internally oracle will generate short names for such objects:
    SQL> select synonym_name from user_synonyms where synonym_name like '%EMPEMPEM%'
    SYNONYM_NAME
    /969ea190_EMPEMPEMPEMPEMPEMPEM
    1 row selected.and not always will the long name be actually usable:
    SQL> select * from empempempempempempempempempempempempemp
    Error at line 1
    ORA-00972: identifier is too long

  • ORA-31005: Path name length 3125 exceeds maximum length 1024

    what does this error mean?
    how to resolve it and how to track where it is occuring.
    it is a xml parsing error but which path is it talking about?
    str_sqlstring contains xml in string format.
    xmlvar := xmltype('ROOT',str_xmlstring);
    doc := dbms_xmldom.newDOMDocument(xmlvar);
    ndoc := dbms_xmldom.makeNode(doc);
    dbms_xmldom.writetobuffer(ndoc, str_buffer);

    Thanks for your time Marco.

    While this did register and I was able to load a record, I am guessing that this will render the data for this element usless but at least the record loads. I'll still need to resolve this issue as the .pdf data is important.

  • XSU - Mapping element names that exceed max length for oracle identifiers

    Hello everyone,
    I am trying to load an XML file in relational tables using XSU. While I have figured out on how to do it, I have two questions:
    1) Is it possible to load data of an element, the name of which exceeds 32 characters in a column the name of which is different from the element name?
    2) Is it possible to skip an element in the mapping while loading an XML? e.g.
    The XML is like:
    <Heroes>
    <Name>Superman</Name>
    <Profession>Superhero</Profession>
    <Alias>Clark Kent</Alias>
    <Hometown>Smallville</Hometown>
    </Heroes>
    and I don't want to load the Alias element. To put it in another way, the Alias element may or may not be appearing in the XML.
    Thank you for the time.

    Apply an XSLT to omit an element.

  • Lax validation errors on schema import ('version' exceeds maximum length)

    I have a schema as per below. I'm trying to import it into Oracle 10.2.0.2.0. However, I'm getting the following lax validation error:
    Error loading ora_business_rule.xsd:ORA-30951: Element or attribute at Xpath /schema[@version] exceeds maximum length
    I can fix it by modifying the attribute and shortening it but I'd like to know why it's occuring. Insofar as I can tell there is no imposed limit on the size of schema attributes according to the W3C standard. Which then makes me wonder: does Oracle impose limits on the length of all attributes or is this specific to 'version' ? If there is a limit, what is the upper bound (in bytes) ? Where is this documented?
    Cheers,
    Daniel

  • ORA-30951: ...exceeds maximum length

    Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
    I am new to XML and having a problem importing data using the XML Repository. I have annotated the schema and validated it using XML Spy. I am able to register the schema w/o errors. I am now working through the issues as they occur during the insertion of xml documents. Thes section below is giving me an error (bottom) that the data exceeds the maximum length. The "DATA" in the xml doc is a pdf file that has been converted to characters by some method. The size element has a data value of 5008. Seems to be too long for a varchar2. I tried RAW, CLOB, BLOB. I was pretty sure they wouldn't work and they didn't. I get an error that the xml/xdb types are incompatible.
    How can I modify the schema to get this element to load?
    Is it possible to tell oracle to ignore an element so I can eliminate those that are not critical? This would be very helpful.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for your time Marco.
    Here is the header:

    I made the following change -
    <xs:element name="Data" xdb:maintainDOM="false" xdb:SQLName="LOB_DATA" xdb:SQLType="CLOB"/>
    I received this error -
    ORA-31094: incompatible SQL type "CLOB" for attribute or element "Data"
    ORA-06512: at "XML_TEST.XML_TEST_SCHEMA_REGISTER", line 48
    I did a little more testing after the first post. I used the same type as an element that is defining image data.
    <xs:element name="Data" type="xs:base64Binary" xdb:maintainDOM="false" xdb:SQLName="LOB_DATA" xdb:SQLType="BLOB"/>
    While this did register and I was able to load a record, I am guessing that this will render the data for this element usless but at least the record loads. I'll still need to resolve this issue as the .pdf data is important.
    Thanks
    Joe

  • Maximum length for an XML schema

    Hi everybody,
    Is there a limit on the maximum length for an XML schema? I am trying to register an XML schema using dbms_xmlschema.registerSchema(). The schema registration process seems to go fine when the length of the schema is short. But the registration process always hangs when I increase the XML schema with additional types/elements. Is there a limit on the maximum length of the XML schema with regards to registering it to Oracle?
    Thanks!
    IK

    Hi Erhan,
    Let's say I have a really big XML schema in file "schemaA.xsd", like so:
    <xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:sampleA="http://abc.com/schemaA" targetNamespace="http://abc.com/schemaA">
    <xsd:element name="Employee">
    <xsd:sequence>
    <xsd:element name="Address" type="sampleA:AddressType"/>
    <xsd:element name="Contact" type="sampleA:ContactInfoType"/>
    </xsd:element>
    <xsd:complexType name="AddressType">......</xsd:complexType>
    <xsd:complexType name="ContactInfoType">....</xsd:complexType>
    </xsd:schema>
    I can separate this schema into multiple smaller schemas (<32KB) by using the proper imports:
    In file "sampleA.xsd":
    <xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:sampleB="http://abc.com/schemaB"
    xmlns:sampleA="http://abc.com/schemaA" targetNamespace="http://abc.com/schemaA">
    <xsd:import namespace="http://abc.com/schemaB" schemaLocation="schemaB.xsd"/>
    <xsd:element name="Employee">
    <xsd:sequence>
    <xsd:element name="Address" type="sampleB:AddressType"/>
    <xsd:element name="Contact" type="sampleB:ContactInfoType"/>
    </xsd:element>
    </xsd:schema>
    And in file "sampleB.xsd", I might have something like this:
    <xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:sampleB="http://abc.com/schemaB" targetNamespace="http://abc.com/schemaB">
    <xsd:complexType name="AddressType">......</xsd:complexType>
    <xsd:complexType name="ContactInfoType">....</xsd:complexType>
    </xsd:schema>
    So, you see how I have separated that one really big XML schema in file "schemaA.xsd" into two XML schema files: "schemaA.xsd" and "schemaB.xsd". Also, I have added <import> tags in schemaA.xsd to refer to elements, complext types, etc. defined in schemaB.xsd. So long as these schema files are < 32KB, I can register them (using dbms_xmlschema.registerSchema()) without any problems into Oracle.
    Let me know if what I said above is not too clear. Hope you find your solution soon!
    Thanks!
    Irene
