Maximum Size of bind variables/model names in a SPARQL query

I was wondering what the maximum field size is for a bind variable (?'' being used in the subject or object within a triple) in a SPARQL query using the Jena Adapter for Oracle? The reason for this is that I keep getting Oracle exception (ORA-00972: identifier is too long) when executing queries.
The other question dealt with the max size of the model names? Is there anyway to increase this length by extending certain classes within the Jena Adapter for Oracle?

Hi,
For model names, because we use model names together with some suffixes to create namespace tables, application tables, and indexes, the length
has to be shorter than 30 bytes - 11 bytes = 19 bytes.
Note that 30 bytes limit is imposed by Oracle database. You cannot create a table with a name longer than 30 bytes.
11 bytes is the maximum suffix length imposed by Jena Adapter. We are considering to reduce it to 4 for the next Jena Adapter release.
For variable names, because we translate SPARQL to SQL queries (and variable name to column alias), there is the same 30 bytes limit.
Note that there are suffixes for variable names as well. For example, $RDFVID, $RDFLTYP, ... These suffixes are used internally.
Some simple tests for illustration purpose.

    The limit is the same as the length of varchar2 variable within PL/SQL - that is varchar2(32767).It's not documented, but intermediate concatenation result can hold up to (64k-1) :

  • Setting a bind variable in a Shared Component Report Query

    I have defined a Shared Component Report Query in APEX using a bind variable similar to below
    Select name, id , ....
    from asset
    where id = :id
    I have also created a Report Region that displays a table where one of the columns contains a value I would like to be a link column that can launch the Report Query and pass its value to the bind parameter :id in the report query. This in turn would generate a pdf report for the details associated with that column. I am having problems setting the :id bind parameter. How do I do this?

    The bind values are set from session state. So if try something like this:
    Select name, id , ....
    from asset
    where id = :P1_ID
    With P1_ID being a page item, for which you set the session state / value before generating the PDF file. So assuming you already have a page with a report and a page item, and that page item is already used in your report, then you could just create a button to download the PDF, make sure the button is a submit button, and create a branch pointing to the report query URL (or in 3.1 use the create button wizard, to do this declaratively.)

    In order not to waste your time in the future:
    Don't execute dynamic SQL until it works !!!
    Write out what you managed to put together using dbms_output.
    Paste that into the SQL window of your client tool (SQL Developer ...)
    Convert parameters to bind variables (replace p_ with :p_)
    Try to run it.
    If errors are thrown correct them, adjust the procedure/function set up to write your dynamic SQL accordingly
    Repeat the cycle until no errors are thrown
    Comment out the dbms_output. ... line
    Uncomment the execute immediate ... line

  • How to set the bind variable on page load and execute query ?

    I am using Jdeveloper 11.1.1.5
    I have a table called "Employee"
    Columns :- id , name , location
    Data :- 1, ,james , chicago
    2 ,Raj ,capetown
    Now i have another webservice(created as a webservice dataControl) which sends me the "id" on each time my page loads.Now the id which has been returned by webservice should be incorporated in my VO Query as in where clause to fetch the data for the respective "id" in that "Employee" table and should be rendered on form.
    Eg :- Id "2" has been sent by the webservice then the record should be fetched from database should be "2","raj","capetown".
    I know that there would be necessity of bind variable , but how do i set the bind variable on page load ?
    How can i use the bind variable appropriately ??

  • Variable database name in SQL Server query using Oracle database link

    Hi All,
    I have an ApEx 4.1 app running on 11g x64 (11.2.0.1) on Windows Server 2008 x64, and I have some data integration points with a SQL Server (2005 and 2008) that I need to establish. I have configured the database link with dg4odbc and it works beautifully... I can execute queries against the SQL Server database without any problems using the database link.
    However, there is a scenario where the SQL Server database name is dynamic, and I need to generate it on the fly in a PL/SQL block, and then use that in a dynamic SQL query (all of this in ApEx). This is where I run into problems... when I am querying the default database based on the ODBC connection and I don't have to specify the database name, there is no issue. But when I need to access one of several other non-default databases, I keep receiving the "invalid table" error.
    This runs fine:* (note that "fv" is the name of my database link)
    v_query1 := 'select "ReleaseDate" from dbo.Schedules@fv where dbo.Schedules."SchedID" = :schedule';
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE v_query1 into rel_date using schedule;
    I then take that rel_date variable, convert to a varchar2 (rel_date_char), and then use it as the database name in the next query...
    This returns an error_ (Error ORA-00903: invalid table name)

    The bind variables T_SICategory_I is not yet use in the sql query but will be used later so i defined it for the view object.
    Is it a reason that the run time check this ? It would be more convenient to set the bind variables early when defining the view object and add them later during the development iteration.

    Design-time defined named bind variables can be marked as required, or not.
    This is decided by the use in the where clause or in view criteria. In my case the bind variable was not used in where clause neither in view criteria and that causes the error.
    May be i would be nice to add a check box (a flag) that enable or disable the bind variables for this checking so we will be able to let it defined even we removed some part of the query corresponding to the corresponding restriction or we defined it earlier for a part of the query that is not yet defined.
    In my current case i fully defined the bind variables but would refine my query later ... in that cause i would have to remove this bind variable and loose all the definitions to run this view object.

    I have the following dynamic SQL query :-

    When the code tries to open the cursor it gives the above error. I presume it is the way Oracle is expanding the bind variable but I cannot find anything in the docs to say why this is happening or whether you can do this or not using bind variables ( CONTAINS query ).   • Bind variables limit and overhead in single query

    HI,
    I've got query with 348 bind variables used in a way like :
    select * from table
    where
    col1 = :1 and col2 = :2
    AND apl_id in (:3, :4 ... , :348)
    is there any overhead related to such high bv number ?
    The session with that query is using about 160MB of PGA (mostly UGA about 150MB).
    Is that somehow related ?
    I'm on 9.2.0.8 EE , AIX .

    You can use an array instead of bind variables, it will give you flexibility and scalabilty,

    Will ODP support oracle spetial???

    I tried using ODP bind variables technique using fixed array size and bind variables technique in ODP (the redundant vars were fulfilled with dummy values) . I used trace and tkprof (with SYS=NO) opposite oracle 9.2.0.5 and pare was equal to parse an fetch meaning : no reuse of execution plans.
    Do you have any IDEA????

    In your example ("select col1,col2 ..coln from table where x in (value1,value2 ….)"), x is the name of a column, which does not need to have a bind variable. You can just put in a .NET variable representing the string value of the column name and concatenate the SQL statement together.
    We are planning to supprt objects and VARRAYs around January/February. From these, you can build your own Spatial data types. Today, most .NET Spatial users employ XML when using their Spatial data in .NET.

    Hello all,
    this might be more of a pl sql question but I am trying to create a collection in apex where the query uses a bind variable. I cannot get this query to work.
    This works
    p_query => 'select je_batch_id from gl_je_batches where default_period_name = ''MAY-10''',
    but I cannot get it to work with a bind variable.
    p_query => 'select je_batch_id from gl_je_batches where default_period_name = :P14_EPSB_ARGYLL_PERIODS ||',
    any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    For the record, the APEX_COLLECTION package in Application Express 4.0 now does support bind variables in the query.
    APEX_COLLECTION.CREATE_COLLECTION_FROM_QUERY_B and APEX_COLLECTION.CREATE_COLLECTION_FROM_QUERYB2 support an input array of bind variable names and bind variable values. This should be faster than referencing an item value via the v() function. However, prior to APEX 4.0, this is the only recourse.

  • Report query with bind variable

    Trying to create a report query for xsl-fo print. For output format I pick "derive from item" then pick the item name from the list, on the next screen, I paste the query with the bind variable. on the next step test query, I always get "data not found" regardless what value I type in. This is the same query that I ran under sql commands without any issues.
    Does anyone run into the same issue as I have when attempted to create a query with bind var ? There is no problem creating a query without bind varibles. . thanks.

    Generating this same query in shared component query builder and testing it returns no data found. If I remove the last line, it works. but with the last line, it return no data found. It seems no one has been able to provide solution to this issue

    Is there some other configuration I need to do when using positional Bind Variables? If I switch the query to use named parameters and replace :1 with :var1 for example it works fine in the Tester. The reason I am not using named bind variables is that Oracle recommend using positional for eBus, probably because it was predominantly built on older versions of JDev.

    There are actually 2 issues here. The first is that bind positions start at 0 (not 1) and that will resolve the invalid column index issue above. However it seems there is a relatively unknown error in JDeveloper 10.1.3 that keeps resetting the bind position of all bind variables each time you update any of them. So if I create var1 with a position of 0 and then create var2 with a position of 1 then the position of var1 will also be overwritten with 1. I tried listing 0,1 for both to see whether the the IDE would intuitively sort out what was supposed to be where but all that happens is that var2 ends up populating positions 0 and 1, which unless the values are meant to be the same is obviously no good. It seems the only way to get around this in this version of JDeveloper is to close the IDE, edit the VO xml to put the variables against their correct positions, and then reopen. Opening the VO wizard will reset them all to the same again so do not do this (unknowingly) and simply right click the AM and run the BC4J Tester which should now let you edit the bind variables and produce the expected results.

  • How to pass a list as bind variable?

    How can I pass a list as bind variable in Oracle?
    The following query work well in SQL Developer if I set ":prmRegionID=2".
    SELECT COUNTRY_ID,
    COUNTRY_NAME
    FROM HR.COUNTRIES
    WHERE REGION_ID IN (:prmRegionID);
    The problem is that I can't find how to set ":prmRegionID=2,3".
    I know that I can replace ":prmRegionID" by a substitution variable "&prmRegionID". The above query work well with"&prmRegionID=2" and with "&prmRegionID=2,3".
    But with this solution, I lost all advantage of using binds variables (hard parse vs soft parse, SQL injection possibility, etc.).
    Can some one tell me what is the approach suggest by Oracle on that subject? My developer have work a long time too find how but didn't found any answer yet.

    What do you want to compare? What does the IN clause do? It deals with, and compares with, a set of values. So it needs a set data type for the bind variable. A set data type enables you to assign multiple values to the bind variable. And use this bind variable for set operations and comparisons in SQL.

    It's normal and and happens due to bind variable datatype. In your case this is blob, (there are a couple of other datatypes - timestamp among other) which will be represented that way in the trace file.
