MDM number generation with length limitation

Dear experts,
I'm currently working on an MDM project, and creating a repository that will auto-generate Project Master number.
The tricky part is that the project number is alphanumeric: it is a combination of AABBCCCC.
AA = Site code (like CZ, XJ, etc)
BB = year (like 14)
CCCC = 4 digits auto ID (0001, 0002, ...., 9999)
I'm thining of using calculated fields, but I'm not sure how I can control the length of auto-id.
Any suggestions?
Thank you!
Best regards,
AZ

Hi AZ,
You can't control the length of auto-d, because its automatic generated unique integer key repersenting the count of the record in the table. The autoid is non editable and once deleted you can not get the code back for other records.
Kindly note there is no limitation for Autoid, as much records get created in the MDM table where autoid field is called,that much Autoid will get generated.
the below calculation you can use to achive your result.
Note:In the calculation field Right (Autoid,4) is holds value 4 so the autocodes will only generated till autoid9999. If you want to increase you can increment the value to 5, by that you can get the autocode till 99999.....
As you know any modification to the calculation field you require to stop the repository, to avoid this you can achieve this by using Assignment.
the below thread will explain and give you some idea regarding calling the assignment in the workflow.

  • Problem on forms for serial number generation with last record next_record.

    Hi Experts,
    currently i'm facing one problem like :
    i'm populating one receipt detail in Multi block , like when user key in one receipt number that time record should go in first record ,and if they key in second receipt number then record should go in second record . mean to say every time record go in last record ..but the problem is i want to generate Serial no correspondence to every last record ..
    here is my approch :
    cursor c1 is
    select * from table
    where cname =:blk_name.clm_name.
    Last record;
    next_record;
    for v1 in c1 loop
    processed record;
    next_record;
    end loop;
    last_record;
    go_block(___);
    first_record;
    :sno := system.cursor_record ;
    next_reocrd;
    end loop;
    first_record;
    And in block level i'm writing code for Serial number generation when user key in manual entry for receipt detail:
    :blk_name.coulumn_name := :system. cursor_record;
    so in this approach their is no problem it is working properly but the problem is that
    when user fetch one receipt automatically and then after he want to enter next record manually and he decided to go in detail block ,
    and once he reached in detail block that time block level trigger i firing .ans serial number 2 generated and then suddenly he came to know no i want to fetch next record automatically mean to say now user going again master block and fetching next receipt detail ,
    but the problem is when user leaving seccond sr no and going in master block and population next receipt detail that time cursor going on 3 record
    but logically have to replace the second Serial no and generate the again serial number 2 record population .mean to say its not refreshing last_record..
    so i'm appreciating is anyone if came accoross this type of issue please corrrect my code and send updated code ..plsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
    Thanks

    How to create custom employee numbering Based on the User Person Type?
    Example:
    Two person types
    o Permanent Employee
    o Probationary employees
    We Need to give two different numbering schemes for each person type.
    eg Permanent Employee will use a seq begin 100000 whereas Probationary employees (other user type) will use a sequence beginning 200000.. Can any pls let me know how to handle the Custom Employee Number Generation (with Setups)

  • Problem with "Number Generation Program'

    Can someone please help me with my Number Generation Program. I am new to java and I am at a sticking point. I want to develop a program that will do the following:
    1. Accept a set of numbers (6 numbers per set).
    2. Remove duplicate numbers.
    3. Generate unique set of numbers (6 numbers per set) using only the numbers that were originally entered.
    example: -> numbers entered: 12 33 45 51 7 10
    5 34 33 8 11 21
    5 6 13 9 10 51
    duplicate numbers removed: -> unique numbers
    12 33 45 51 7 10
    5 34 8 11 21 6
    13 9
    Final result: -> generate unique set of numbers only using the above unique 14 numbers
    5 6 7 8 9 10
    5 6 7 8 9 11
    5 6 7 8 9 12
    5 6 7 8 9 13

    I am having a problem with the following:
    1. accepting the numbers
    2. removing duplicate numbers
    3. generating the number sequence sets
    As I mentioned earlier, I am new to java. I just completed my first java class and I wanted to develop this program.

  • Web Service URL length limits, LV2013 vs LV2012

    (* CROSS POST: http://lavag.org/topic/18435-web-service-url-length-limits-lv2013-vs-lv2012/ *)
    (* Please reply in this forum.  I have marked the other thread to put replies here. *)
    Has anyone noticed a reduction to the limit on URL length for Web Services between LV versions 2012 and 2013?
    Under LV2012, a RESTful web service appears to accept URL with lengths at least as long as 4096 characters.  With LV2013, the max URL length appears to be 511 characters for both RESTful and Project Item web services. Unfortunately for me the project I just converted trips over this issue. My goal with posting this query to here is to improve my understanding of this limitation before I decide how best to modify my code.  Certainly using POST rather than GET with a long URL is an option, but again, I'm looking to understand the change in limitation before I choose a solution.
    To illustrate I have attached three mostly identical projects which demonstrate the issue.  In each case the project contains a webservice consisting of a single VI, "ComputeLength", which takes a String as an input parameter and which outputs the length of the string.  The three projects are as follows.
    1. LV2012 RESTful web service.
    2. LV2013 RESTful web service.
    3. LV2013 Project item web service.
    The web service contains a single VI.  For the RESTful examples, the web service is started by selecting Deploy from the Build specification right click menu.  For the Project Item example, the web service is started by selecting Start from the MyComputer/WebService right click menu. The use of this example is demonstrated with the following URL:
    (note that the port is 8080 for the two RESTful examples and is 8001 for the Project item web service if used in Debug mode, which is the default for the above instruction.)
    http://localhost:8080/webservice/computelength?string=1234567890
    And the output looks like this.
    <Response>
    <Terminal>
    <Name>StringLength</Name>
    <Value>10</Value>
    </Terminal>
    </Response>
    To see the issue, extend the string parameter such that the URL contains more than 511 characters beyond the port number.  For example something like this, http://localhost:8080/webservice/computelength?string=1234567890123456789012345678901234567890....(keep repeating)
    For the LV2012 example the string parameter may be at least as long as 4000 characters, which I've demonstrated using Chrome as my browser.  For both of the LV2013 examples the URL is limited to 511 characters after the localhost and the port number.
    Anyone know whether this is a bug or this is an intentional design change?  How about whether the URL length limit is configurable?
    I am also consulting NI tech support and will report back their response.
    Any advice appreciated.
    Thanks,
      Martin

    Solution found.  Apparently starting in LV 2013, there is a default limit of 512 to the URL length.  The default limit may be overridden as described below.
    Martin
    This is Brian in Applications Engineering from National Instruments. I am following up regarding the 511 character limit in your Web Service HTTP request following the port number. After some research I've figured out that the issue is related to a default web server setting called "LimitUri," which limits the maximum length of a URL. The default setting is 512 characters which is why we are seeing this issue.
    There are multiple ways of changing the URL length limit depending on how you are using your web service. If you are publishing the web service using the Application Web Server then modify "C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\Shared\NI WebServer\NIWebAppServer.conf" and add "LimitUri 4096" to the end of the file without the quotes.
    If you are running the Debug Web Server by just clicking start on the web service then modify "C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2013\resource\webserver\niwsdebugserver.conf" and add "LimitUri 4096" to the end of the file without the quotes.

  • Regarding Number Generation

    Hi Experts,
    I am SAP MDM Consultant and have recently come across this issue pertaining to number generation,need your expert guidance to solve it.
    Problem Definition : In our landscape Number generation takes places through a BAPI function call to ECC system,This data is then filled in the form and then on submission data gets saved in MDM.Later the same gets syndicated to ECC after enrichment and approvals.Recently in dev system we have encountered Duplicate Vendor number in MDM system.MDM is not generating number,its the BAPI call from ECC which does this.I think some previously used numbers must have be released for use and the same has been used by BAPI.
    So,can you please guide what can be reasons of inconsistent number generations and which methods are used to release the same unused numbers for use?
    Quick help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ravi

    .I think some previously used numbers must have be released for use and the same has been used by BAPI.
    SAP has no process to release old numbers,
    There is a function module to get the next number: 'NUMBER_GET_NEXT'
    It just uses the  the number range number and the number range object and reads then the next number from the number range table NRIV.
    Usually you cannot create duplicates, SAP ends in a dump.
    So I guess your problem is created by either resetting the number range in ERP production system manually, or somebody transported the intervals from DEV to PROD system despite of the endless warnings, which obviously has then the lower current number as you usually have not as much materials in a DEV system like in a PROD system.
    It can already be years ago that a number range was resetted, and you are just approaching  numbers that are already used.
    You have to analyze the numbers in MARA table  and compare it with the number range intervals and their current number.

  • What algorithm does Excel 2010 use for Pseudo Random Number Generation (MT19937?)

    Does Excel 2010+ use the Mersenne Twister (MT19937) algorithm for Pseudo Random Number Generation (PRNG), implemented by the RAND() function?
    This has been a nagging question for some time now, with "hints" that it indeed does.  However, a relatively thorough search turns up no definitive documentation.  The most direct indication is perhaps given by Guy Melard [Ref 9] where
    he tests Excel 2010's RAND() function using the Crush battery of tests in TestU01 by L'Ecuyer & Simard.  Melard references a "semi-official" indication that Microsoft did indeed implement MT19937 for the RAND() function in
    Excel 2010, but this reference no longer seems to be available. http://office.microsoft.com/enus/excel-help/about-solver-HP005198368.aspx?pid=CH010004571033.
    The other references below [Ref 1-10] document the history of the statistical suitability of the PRNG and probability distributions in various versions of Excel.  This includes the Wichmann-Hill PRNG implementations supposedly (arguably) used in
    Excel 2003 & 2007 for random number generation.  But still, we have no answer as to which PRNG algorithm is used in
    Excel 2010 (and 2013 for that matter).
    Microsoft indicates that RAND() has been improved in Excel 2010; Microsoft states, "...and the RAND function now uses a new random number algorithm." (see https://support.office.com/en-ca/article/Whats-New-Changes-made-to-Excel-functions-355d08c8-8358-4ecb-b6eb-e2e443e98aac).
    But no details are given on the actual algorithm.  This is critical for Monte Carlo methods and many other applications.
    Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    I found the same KB article:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/828795
    This was introduced (according to the article) in Excel 2003. Perhaps the references in notes 2 and 3 might help.
    The article describes combining the results of 3 generators, each similar to a Multiply With Carry (MWC) generator, but with zero carry. MWC generators do very well on the Diehard battery of randomness tests (mentioned in your references), and have
    very long periods. But using zero carry makes no sense to me.
    Combining the three generators only helps if the periods of the 3 are relatively prime (despite what the article implies). Then the period of the result will be the product of the 3 periods. But without knowing the theory behind these generators, I have
    no idea what the periods would be. The formulas for MWC generators fail here.

  • Issue with length of file paths - Windows & C++ plugin

    Hello,
    I've got an issue that just popped up on my OCR plugin I've been working on that I suspect is related to the length of the filepath.
    I'm getting the following error that is being caught and logged when trying to open a file (filename changed for security purposes):
    Error Opening File: D:\aVeryLongFilePath.pdf
    Exception info: This file cannot be found.
    The entire string, including the D:\ part, is 266 characters long. I cut down the length of part of the path one by one and it was able to open and OCR the document when the length was 259 characters.
    I know there's a MAX_PATH variable in Windows and/or there's some kind of limitation for file length. Note that I can open the file in Acrobat using File->Open and run OCR on it individually using the built-in Recognize Text function, but if I try to Recognize Text for Multiple files and choose "Add Folders", the file in question doesn't show up in the list of files to be batch OCR'd (even though it is there). Interestingly, choosing "Add Files" from the Recognize Text->In Multiple Files does work. So Acrobat itself has at least some issues opening the file using some of it's features.
    Here's how I'm opening the document:
         string pn;               // assume this is initialized, I'm just putting this here to demonstrate what type it is
         pathName = pn;
         ASAtom pathType = ASAtomFromString("Cstring");
         asPathName = ASFileSysCreatePathName(ASGetDefaultFileSys(), pathType, pn.c_str(), NULL);
         pdDoc = PDDocOpen(asPathName, ASGetDefaultFileSys(), NULL, true);
    Is there a way around this problem?
    Thanks.

    Yes, you are hitting the MAX_PATH on certain versions of Windows.   The only workaround would be to see that the file is "a very long path" and then break up the pathname construction into multiple pieces (perhaps the containing directory and then the file itself).  The other option is don't use Cstring to construct, use the Unicode variant.

  • HT1515 How can I use Airport Express (1st generation) with OS X Mavricks?

    How can I use Airport Express (1st Generation) with OS X Mavericks?

    1st Generation AirPort Express will work fine with Mavericks.
    Are you sure that you have a 1st Gen Express?
    Check the model number on the side of the Express. 1st Gen is A1264.
    If you see A1084 or A1088, these are much older versions of the Express that were sold long before Apple began to use the Generation naming with "n" wireless devices in 2007.
    Mavericks will not support the A1084 or A1088. Use another Mac running Leopard, Snow Leopard, or a PC if you need to administer the older Express.

    lock are happen after open the code i have find out used FOR UPDATE in procedure please tell me any alternative for this every labrequest form saving time using this procedure for generating prefix sequence number multiple user using with different systems
    PROCEDURE   Gsp_GenSeqNum (I_SvPrefixCd IN VARCHAR2,I_SvUserName IN VARCHAR2,
                              O_SvSeqNum OUT VARCHAR2) IS

    --supllied to the procedure.
      CURSOR  crSeqGenerator IS
             SELECT Gsn_prefix_last_num, Gsn_prefix_year

    Thanks

    This application is inbuit with some modules VB (cath ,cardio)and oracle forms for required sequence number generation different time used this procedure whereever required the sequence Prefix generation.If i replace the procedure sequene to oracle standard sequency if the user cannot save the form unnessary sequency generated order is missing from sequence.

  • Serial number generation

    Hi friends,
    I have a question regarding the serial number generation.
    1. In serial number generation  do we have option of generating either when creating and releasing the production order or when doing the GR for the production order.
    If yes, please let me know how we can do that.
    2. If we have the serial number activiated for the material can we use auto goods receipt for the material?
    Thanks and regards,
    Satish

    Dear Satish,
    Go to OIS2 and create the serial number profile which will be later assigned to the material master.
    Select the serial number profile and select serializing procedure
    Here,select "PPAU Serial numbers in PP order" and enter the value as desired in serial number usage column.
    Similarly you can try for order release.
    We cannot activate auto GR for the items with serial numbers.

  • Custom Employee Number Generation Using Fast Formulas

    Hi,
    I have a requirement to generate custom employee numbers like "EMP100001". we have already created a business group with the setting of Employee number generation as Automatic. but we need to generate custom employee number as Format given above instead of automatic number generation.
    I have created my own PL/SQL Package to generate custom employee number as per Person Type. Also created a Fast Formula Function with the following parameters -
    Name = Get_Custom_Number
    Data Type = Text
    Class = External Funtion
    Alias Name = NULL or what you want the alias to be
    Description = Returns the next custom number value
    Definition = CUSTOM_EMP_NUMBER_GENERATION.Get_Custom_Number (PL/SQL Function)
    Proving the following Context usages and Parameters details to the Fast Formula Function -
    Context usages:-
    Number = 1
    Context Name = BUSINESS_GROUP_ID
    Data Type = Number
    Parameters as defined in PL/SQL function
    1 p_legislation_code Text Input Only
    2 p_person_type Text Input Only
    3 p_person_number Text Input Only
    4 p_party_id Number Input Only
    5 p_person_id Number Input Only
    6 p_national_id Text Input Only
    7 p_date_of_birth Date Input Only
    Than i created a Fast Formula using the following navigation
    Total Compensation > Basic > Write Formula
    with following details -
    Name = EMP_NUMBER_GENERATION
    Type = Person Number Generation
    Description = Returns next Employee number
    and wrote my formula code.
    When i created a Employee from Enter and Maintain People screen it is showing automatic number instead of my custom employee number.
    I m not able to find where i m missing the logic or some parameters?
    If anyone has come across such situation, please provide some pointers here.
    Thanks
    Renu

    What is the application release?
