MDT WinPE TSEnv variables and pathing some powershell scripts.

Hi again everyone!
I have a question about running some powershell scripts inside of MDT.  Now I know that you can create a powershell command in the task sequence, and that will create the proper elevations and such, but I would like some organization here.  I have
been creating my OS modification scripts inside of an Image Utilities folder under applications and then calling them with a powershell.exe windowstyle -hidden script.ps1.  The scripts will run, but I have alot of custom unpackaged stuff that I'm trying
to quickly move and create on the freshly deployed OS.  My issue comes in with using things like copy-item .\items -destination c:\itemdest\ .  I have a folder that I created with some items that need to be in the OS image process, plus the
powershell script.  I was thinking maybe I could do some sort of set unc=%~dp0 or something and make a $env:unc or something, but I was hoping someone might've solved this already.  Thanks in advance for any help.
Ryan

Hi Ryan,
Sorry but you're not being clear enought for me. I usually need things dumbing down for me to understand. :)
=%~dp0 is the current folder. I'll assuming from that, you're trying to get the same thing in PowerShell.
There's a number of ways depending of what you're trying to do.
$PWD is usefull from the command line
The $MyInvocation object holds a wealth of info from the path to the executable/function used.
There's a blog on it here How can a script tell what directory it was run from?
Also, the best place for help on this kind of thing is the scripting guys forum. I hope this puts you in the right direction.

  • Get system variable and execute a Java Script

    I'm not sure it is the appropriate forum to ask this
    question. I'm using Captivate 2 without LMS.
    I need to execute a java script that take read a system
    variable (eg. USERNAME) and opens an URL using the USERNAMe as
    parameter. The idea here is to update a database opening a specific
    URL for a specific USERNAME.
    Any one has an example to do something similar ?

    Hello All,
    Could anyone please help me with some examples or
    tutorials how I can create Java Applet to run telnet
    to UNIX and execute a shell script?
    Presumably you don't need to write the telnet code yourself (like for a class.)
    If so then you can use this...
    http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/net/
    There might be some other dependencies from other commons stuff that you will need to resolve to run it.
    Once you have that, presumably you are not telnetting back to the source of the applet. If so you will need to deal with security for the applet. Usually that means that you must sign the applet. Otherwise you will have to modify the policy file on each client machine that will run the applet.

  • Automator : issue with variable and path to folder

    I created a simple Automator Workflow with: A variable "Document Folder" and an action "Run shell script" with this command:
    "rsync -E -a -v -z --delete $@ /Volumes/MyBook/Backup/"
    I tested this command, It works very well in the terminal. But return me an error with Automator.
    "$@" is replaced by the Path when running, I guess my issue is that the content of the variable is " ~/Documents " . When it pass to the script it become "/Users/login/~/Documents".
    That can't works.
    A solution would be to put in the script the full path instead of "$@" but I would liketo understand why this error occur.
    Thanks.

    Automator actions return their results as a list of items. If you want your shell script to use the result of an action (for example Ask for Finder Items) as arguments, you need to set the Pass input: as arguments option, and place your statement in the for loop:
    for f in "$@"
    do
          /usr/bin/rsync -E -a -v -z --delete "$f" /Volumes/MyBook/Backup/
    done

  • C# SSIS Script component - Save List String to Object package-scope variable and read it in Script Task

    before posting this i was searching this on internet but was not able to find info regarding my specific case:
    i have a DataFlow Task with "Error output" pointing from FlatFile to
    Script Component that does below (variable "ErrorMessageList" is listed under ReadWriteVariables property):
    List<string> lsErrors = new List<string>();
    public override void Input0_ProcessInputRow(Input0Buffer Row)
    lsErrors.Add("test1");
    lsErrors.Add("test2");
        void PostExecute()
            base.PostExecute();
            Variables.ErrorMessageList = lsErrors;
    Then the DataFlow points to a ScriptComponent where this object variable is listed under ReadOnlyVariables property and does the below:
    public void Main()
    List<string> lsErrors = (List<string>)Dts.Variables["ErrorMessageList"].Value;
    and that is where i get exception-has-been-thrown-by-the-target-of-an-invocation
    What is wrong here?
    (i have mistakenly edited this first post before, so i tried to manually put it back to original version)

    i have missed the "override" keyword...
    public class ScriptMain : UserComponent
    public class UserComponent: ScriptComponent
    namespace Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline
    public class ScriptComponent
    // i should have seen this before
    public virtual void PostExecute();
    i believe i must have deleted the PostExecute method definition right after the ScriptComponent generated the script for me... and then when i've realized that i can't change ReadWriteVariables as a part of:
    public override void Input0_ProcessInputRow(Input0Buffer Row)
    // --- can't change ReadWriteVariables here
    then i had to add the method back but forgot that the base method is virtual
    thanks for this hint, Russ!

  • SOLVED: powershell script working on its own, access denied when called from a service

    Hi powershell experts,
    I'm using a powershell script, called by a service with serviceaccount PWSService, which gives an exception denied. This powershell script sets up a remote powershell connection(with a specific account), and runs some powershell scripts remotely on
    that server.
    When I launch the powershell script manually, by opening the powershell console myself(with "run as" PWSService), the remote session starts and I'm able to succesfully run commands through it.
    The PWSService is local admin on the server.
    Is there any diffrence in behaviour when powershell scripts are started by a service or started as a "user"? Can someone shed a light on this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Robin

    hi mjolinor,
    We use the following class for the service(Microsoft
    live@edu connector):
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.management.automation.runspaces.wsmanconnectioninfo%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
    I use Enter-PSSession to start the commands in de powershell console which works.

  • How to store the value into variable and access it in RMAN script

    I want to create a variable and dynamically assign a numeric value to it (may get the value may be from SQL )and access the value in RMAN script.
    Thanks...Raj

    Raj,
    We have been getting this type of request and it is not possible via RMAN to do that.
    BUT--You could write a sql/plus script to query your variable and produce the RMAN script with the new value.
    Just a suggestion.

  • Installer launching command prompt that should run a powershell script and remain open

    I am using the Microsoft Visual Studio Installer Projects extension for VS 2013. This installer is designed to place a windows app in a directory and then launch a powershell script to prompt the user to sideload the application. From what I read online,
    you can make a windows console application and then add that .exe under the install custom actions to have the exe run after the installation is done. My installer is running the executable, but not in the way I want it to. This is the code that the console
    application has:
    static void Main(string[] args)
    Process.Start(@"C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe", @"-ExecutionPolicy bypass -NoExit -File Application\Add-AppDevPackage.ps1");
    One key thing to note here is the -NoExit. I want the prompt to remain open. If I run this console application directly, the powershell console does indeed stay open. You can see here where I have added the .exe as part of the install custom action.
    One additional thing to note is when I looked at the exe in the directory after the install, it is different than the one generated when I compile the console application project. I wouldn't know why the installer is physically changing the binary when I
    expect it to just copy the output from that compiled project/copy that file.
    If anyone has any additional input on how to make this process easier to have an installer (.msi) to place my windows app in a directory and run a powershell script to prompt the user to sideload it, then I welcome that too.

  • Powershell script to get the low disk space on the servers...

    Hi,
    We have many SQL & Sharepoint servers running on windows server. I need some Powershell script to get the low disk space on those servers and it should send an mail alert saying "Disc d:\ have less than threshold 15% free space".
    Awaiting for response.
    Thanks
    Anil

    you should be able to use this powershell script which you can run as a scheduled task.
    just change the details at the start of the script to point the script to the right location to create log files. you will need to have a plain text file containing a list of server names or ip addresses that you want to check drive space on.
    # Change the following variables based on your environment
    #specify the path to the file you want to generate containing drive space information
    $html_file_dir = "\\server\share\DriveSpace"
    #specify the path and file name of the text file containing the list of servers names you want to check drive space on - each server name on a seperate line in plain text file
    $server_file = "\\server\share\servers.txt"

    # The seventh line from the bottom (line 167) is used if your smtp gateway requires authentication. If you require smtp authentication

  • Using Echo Command in PowerShell Script for Configuration Item

    Hello All,
    Before you tell me to post my PowerShell question to the PowerShell Forum, please know that the PowerShell portion of my task works just fine. It is the SCCM portion of my task that keeps failing, so that is why I am here. To give some background...
    There are two servers in our SCCM test environment. Both the SCCM server and SQL DB server are 2012, patched and updated.
    Test servers in my Device Collection being used for running Baselines and Reports against are 2008R2 and 2012, patched and updated.
    I have created a Configuration Item that checks to see if the FTP Server Role Feature has been installed on a 2008 or 2012 server. To do the check, I am using the following PowerShell script:
    (get-windowsfeature -Name Web-Ftp-Server).Installed
    When I log into my 2008R2 and 2012 test servers, and run this command directly on the server, it will return a "True" if the FTP Server Role Feature is installed on either server, and a "False" if it is not installed. Basically,
    it works as advertised.
    When I setup my Configuration Item and then deploy my Baseline, or run a report against my device collection of test servers, SCCM will return a correct response (True or False) for the 2012 test server, but throws the following error for the 2008R2
    server:
    0x87df00329 application requirement evaluation or detection failed
    Google searches for this have not been very helpful.
    Now, when I created the Configuration Item and referenced PowerShell, the configuration screen has the following note:
    "Specify the script to find and return the value to be assessed for compliance on client devices. Use the echo command to return the script value to Configuration Manager."
    Since I did not include an echo command in my PowerShell script above, I figured that was my problem, so I did the following:
    Logging onto both of my test servers (2008R2 & 2012) I was able to successfully run the following PowerShell commands and get the expected responses of True or False:
    (get-windowsfeature -Name Web-Ftp-Server).Installed | echo
    (get-windowsfeature -Name Web-Ftp-Server).Installed | write-output (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh849921.aspx)
    (get-windowsfeature -Name Web-Ftp-Server).Installed | write-host (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee177031.aspx)
    However, when I use any of these PowerShell commands in my Configuration Item, NEITHER of my test servers returns a response to the SCCM server.
    When I check the report, both servers show as "Unknown" and when I click on the number 2 (as in 2 servers unknown), the following report page (List of unknown assets for a configuration baseline) has absolutely no data/information at all.
    So...I am at a loss.
    SCCM tells me to use an echo command to return a script value to Configuration Manager. The PowerShell scripts above, with the various echo related commands, work just fine on the servers themselves, but they return no information when run via SCCM.
    What am I missing?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance for your time.

    Sorry for my ignorance, but I don't understand. (I forgot to mention that I am new at both PowerShell and SCCM.)
    After I change the PowerShell script to add the echo/write-output/write-host cmdlet, I open the ConFig Item and "Clear" the PowerShell script and then re-add it. When I do that, it correctly shows the change in the ConFig Item.
    Next I open the Baseline, then open the ConFig Item within the Baseline to make sure the change is reflected there as well, which it is.
    I then deploy the Baseline to my Device Collection. After that, I run a report against the Baseline and Device Collection and it returns the "Unknown" result.
    If I open the PowerShell script and remove the echo/write-output/write-host cmdlet, then go through the rest of the process of updating and reporting, the result it returns changes, showing one server in compliance and the other server out of compliance,
    which leads me to think that all changes have taken correctly.
    Does that sound right? If I manually deploy the Baseline, is that the same as the client retrieving policies from the management point?
    Sorry to be so thick but I'm learning as I go.

  • How to sign a powershell script to be used for distribution

    Hi,
    I am new to powershell so if I'm missing out on any detail, please let me know.
    We have some powershell scripts we send over to the clients to execute. Their powershell enviroment has execution policy set to 'remote signed'
    Now I have read multiple blogs for how to sign the powershell script to be used at different execution levels, but my understanding is signing is for my environment only.

    I'm probably missing out on something obvious and I'll appreciate if someone can explain me how to sign my script so that client can use it in their environment with any execution level set.
    Thanks in advance!

  • OSD - Task Sequence to run powershell script

    Hello,
    I'm building up an image with OSD and will be layering some components to meet our needs with some powershell scripts. At the moment we will not have this device add itself to the domain so it'll be in a workgroup. The scripts are on a share that everyone has
    read access to. Should I add a task sequence that will map a drive letter with domain credentials and have the task sequence call the script from that drive letter?

    That is possible to do, but why would you not create a package/application with the script and let it download and run locally?

  • After creating a Powershell script monitor - how to import in Operation Manager 2012 ?

    Hello!
    I just completed all the steps in this article:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/16752.management-pack-composition-exercise-2-creating-a-monitor-based-on-a-windows-powershell-script.aspx?CommentPosted=true#commentmessage
    So now I guess that the just created Management Pack should be imported in Operation Manager 2012, and then also folders and views should be created in order to have it showing green/red based on the values returned by the script.
    In the article there's no pointer to that procedure, so can you please provide a good link where the steps are explained?
    thanks!

    Have a look at the following video, it steps through how to create rules and monitors using PowerShell scripts

  • Remote PowerShell script execution from web page

    I am building a web interface for Active Directory for a school project. (It will NOT touch the Internet, it is for intranet use.) I want to click a "button" on my interface and execute a PowerShell script on a server. (example: Clicking on "AD Users" would execute a PS script to get a list of users) Does anyone know a good approach to accomplish this? I can nandle writing the PowerShell scripts, I am just not sure what the best way to call them from a web interface would be. Any reference or information would be appreciated.

    hi igor
    i am actually working on a simillar project , i'm planning to publish it as an open source in codeplex
    the idea is that you have to know another programming language like VB , C# ... in my case i used ironpython
    ASP.NET , while ironpython calls powershells command using system.managment.automation through runspace
    iron python only handles the web interface stuff , like button click events , and handling output stuff from powershell
    you can convertto-html cmdlet from powershell it will make your life alot easier :)

  • Powershell Issue with Variable and Equal Signs

    I should have been using $line.grade, but your syntax worked so thanks!

    I've been running a powershell script to create active directory accounts at our school from a csv file. I'm needing to have users placed in a specific OU based on what grade level they are in, which is a field in the csv file and I have passed into the description field in AD. To keep from writing a bunch of if statements, I thought I might could pass the description variable into my organizational unit path, but I'm having syntax issues.Here is the specific line I have issues with.Powershell'ou' = "OU=$line.description, OU=LESStudents,OU=LES,DC=school,DC=k12,DC=state,DC=us"I've tried the single quote, double quotes, escaping the equal sign and some other methods I've seen online, but haven't quite gotten it right. It just isn't recognizing OU=$line.description as a variable.
    Disclaimer - I'm not a programmer and most of this was built...
