Having a problem with dimension formula in SAP BPC for NW 7.0 sp8:
Scenario 1:
Account A5010a_I = A507_I is written as [A507_I] in the column formula in the account dimension. Works just fine.
Scenario 2:
Account A5010a_I = A507_I for Periodic is written as ([A507_I],[MEASURES].[PERIODIC])
Works just fine as well.
Scenario 3:
Account A5010a_I = A507_I for Periodic and member NO_ALDER in the dimension ALDER I written as ([A507_I],[ALDER].[NO_ALDER],[MEASURES].[PERIODIC])
Gives me following error message:
1: Failed to expand K2 function for dimension KONTO_HR's member formulas
2: MDX statement error:"Unknown error when executing MDX"
It seems to be a problem to specify more than two dimensions. Tired the same code in MS version without any problem. What am I doing wrong?

I can see there just one parameter @Department@Department in your script. But if you had two parameters that should return resultset affected by two parameters. You can do it as either select from subselect from subselect.

What is the format of the period date you want to get, is this date in the DB and you want to filter it based on the month and the given Date?
Did the month and given date are two parameters in the report? if possible, could you please provide some sample data in the DB and also the snapshot of the report structure
I assume you want to get the period date(mm/dd/yyy) between the select month(e.g:Feb) and the given date (10/1/2014) and you should get the date between(02/01/2014-10/1/2014).
If so,and you also have two parameter "Month","EndDate"(EndDate is the given date), please reference to details information below:
You can create an new parameter "BeginDate" (Date/Time) which is the begin date of the period, you can use the expression to get the value based on the value of the month and the year value from the given date,finally hide this parameter:

MDX Error in Reporting Services/Sharepoint

Hi,
I'm using SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 CU5.
I have a reporting that executes a DataSet with a MDX query. That report was executing very well before (in SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1), but after we updated SQL to SP1 Cumulative 5, the report returns an error.
The strange thing is, if we execute the MDX query in Analysis Service, and after that execute the report in sharepoint 2010, it works fine, but about 10 minutes after the reporting returns error again, until we execute again the query in AS.
The error returned isn't clear, just say "Operation Cancelled", this same message is returned by the Analysis Services Log (Profiler).
Some idea?

Based on the limited information, we cannot give you the exact reason that cause this issue. In order to narrow down this issue, you can apply the latest Service Pack and Cumulative Update as GregGalloway said. Besides, you can troubleshoot this issue by
using the Windows Event logs and msmdsrv.log.
You can access Windows Event logs via "Administrative Tools" --> "Event Viewer". SSAS error messages will appear in the application log.
The msmdsrv.log file for the SSAS instance that can be found in \log folder of the instance. (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSAS10.MSSQLSERVER\OLAP\Log)

Like we have If Not Exists in T-SQL, Is there any alternative in MDX

I am a newbie in MDX. I am trying to execute MDX query through SSIS Execute SQL Task. I have set Single Row as a result set. Every thing is fine, But the problem arise when the query does not return any result.
Because , this is the property of Execute SQL Task that it fails , If result set is SET and query does not return any value.
This occurance is handle in T-SQL by used of If Not Exits/If Exists , Do we have something over here i.e. MDX ?
If not then what might be the alternative for this.

If you are looking for dynamically concatenating the MDX try using an expression in the dataset itself. If the MDX is very complex in nature and do more operations to construct the MDX you can use custom code itself.

Filters not getting passed in MDX query while using SAP BW with OBIEE

Hello,
I've been working on OBIEE with SAP BW as back-end. I've created some reports & those are working fine when there is less amount of data. But when I try to run a report with 3 dimensions & 1 fact it throws an error saying "No more storage space available for extending an internal table". When I checked MDX query, I found that the filters that I had applied to request & also selected from prompts are not getting passed in that query. So, I tried running a simple request using a simple filter in Answers. Although this request returns results but I can't see filter conditions in query. MDX query always show crossjoin but I can't see filter conditions anywhere.
Is it the normal OBIEE behaviour OR am I doing something wrong in there? Can you please help me out with this?

We tried those things. But it is still giving same error.
State: HY00. Code: 10058. [NQODBC][SQL_STATE:HY000][nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. XML/A error returned from the server: Fault code: "XMLAnalysisError.0X80000005". Fault string: "The XML for Analysis provider encountered an error: MDX result contains too many cells (more than 1 million)". (HY000)
The problem here, I think, is the filter parameters are not getting passed in the MDX query. Any idea why would that happen? Is there any setting to do so?

SSRS report with tabular model - MDX query to filter parameter data based on Tuple value.

Hello Everyone,
I am working on SSRS report in which a tabular model is being used as a backend.
I want to filter the report parameters which are dependent to other parameters. Like, country, state, and cities drop downs.
All are multi-select parameters. I am using MDX queries to filter the parameters data.
Based on selected one or more countries, the data of states needs to be filtered.
The point is the text which is being displayed in state dropdown for each state name is combination of 3 different members.
So, I created the following Tuple for the same and can see the expected display names in states dropdown.

The following is my query for City parameter. It is working well when I select only one State from the dropdown.
However, when I select multiple states, it is unable to convert the Tuple into SET in ELSE part of IIF condition specified in following query.
Can anybody help me how to resolve the error that I am getting about STRTOSET function?

Are there any other alternatives to achieve this requirement?

I am new to MDX language and need a MDX functions/query on the cube to get the required output, Given below is the scenario with the data.
I am maintaining the data in a table in dataMart with given structure. We have the data at day and weekly in a single table with granularity indicator and count is the measure group column. While loading the data in to mart table we are populaiting the week
Key from week table and Month key from month table and joining in the cube.

In MDX, we can achieve the requirement by using Count and Filter function, I have tested it on AdventureWorks cube, the sample query below is for you reference.

How to pass multiple MDX values for a single parameter into a drill-through report?

I'm thinking this will be an easy question for any experienced SSRS/MDX developers, at least I hope so! I've created a report that gives the user the option to choose viewing data for the current/active week, or YTD. Depending on which link the
user selects, the report simply calls itself and needs to pass in the parameter value for Active week. If it's active week, the parameter value will simply be "true". If it's YTD, the parameter value needs to be both "True" and "False" so the current
week's data is accounted for as well. I've set everything up except for the final step, and I have no idea what to type into the Value field below. I've tried different things: false, as you see below (it errors saying I'm missing the parameter
value), the value in MDX format: =[School Dates].[Active Week].&[True] (it said I was missing a bracket), a 1 instead of the word true (again, missing a parameter value). Nothing is working.
So my question is kindof two-fold: 1) how do you pass in the value at all and 2) more specifically, how do you pass in multiple values (both true & false) ??

I'm sorry for being so dense, but I'm not quite following, although what I've tried makes me think if I can follow you, it will work :)
To answer your initial questions, you are correct with both your assumptions:
1) detailType is the parameter that specificies YTD/Weekly, this is a "report defined" parameter that I am using to determine which Row Group to display (either YTD or Weekly)
2) SchoolDaysActiveWeek is the parameter that is being set to either true or false -- this is a field in the cube that states whether that record is for the current week or not
So in following your instructions, well that's the problem I'm not quite following :)
1) When you say Delete the SchoolDaysActiveWeek parameter from the report only, do you mean to mark the parameter as Hidden? If so, I've done this.
2) I'm not quite sure where to use the statement you provided me. You said to put it in the dataset, but I don't know which dataset. I assume you mean the "main" dataset (as opposed to the hidden dataset that gets generated when you mark a field
as a parameter). If this is the case, the only place I could see that would allow you to use such a statement is in the Filter section of the properties. I tried this, and it did not generate any errors, but it also kept my report groups from displaying
-- it just showed a blank report, so I think it probably wasn't bringing back any rows to populate them with.
I also tried going into the Expression section for the SchoolDaysActiveWeek parameter in the second screenshot and placing the statement there. When I did this and ran the report, I would get the following error:
The 'SchoolDaysActiveWeek' parameter is missing a value
So what am I missing!?

According to your description, you want to create a calculated member to combine two members, and then set it as Default member, right?
In SQL Server Analysis Services, we can use the script below to create a calculated members.

Every attribute in a dimension in Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services has a default member, which you can specify by using the

No data return from BI7 via MDX drvier in Crystal report

I have:
Windows 2000 SP4
SAP BI7 patch level 16
SAP GUI 710 patch level 7 (BW3.5 addon patch 3, BI 710 patch 5)
Crystal report XI R2 SP4
SAP_Integration_Kit_XI R2-SP4
and the BW tranports already imported in BI7.
I can create a report over a Bex query in Crystal report using BW Query driver and retirved datafrom BI7
Then I tried to create a report over the same Bex query in Crystal report using MDX driver, I got no data return from BI7.
So I used the RSRTRACE transaction to trace the log when refreshing data in Crystal report, and then go to debug the call 10- GET_CELL_DATA and I have data from the MDX excution in BI7.
So I think Crystal report can pass the MDX query to BI7 and BI7 can excute it without any problem, the issue is no data return to Crystal report.
Could anyone help please?

I was create the CR MDX report via SAP tool bar (and I create 2 reports base on the same Bex query with MDX and BW query just to compare, that one via BW query return data from BW)

MDX open interface error?

has anyone come across this error in Excel client? i get it when trying to remove 0's from the summarized values.

Error MDX result contains too many cells (more than 1 million). (WIS 10901)

Hi,
We have developed an universe on BI query and developed report on it. But while running this BO query in Web Intelligence we get the following error
A database error occured. The database error text is: Error in MDDataSetBW.GetCellData. MDX result contains too many cells (more than 1 million). (WIS 10901)
This BO query is restricted for one document number.
Now when i check in the BI cube there are not more than 300-400 records for that document number.
If i restrict the BO query for document number, delivery number, material and acknowledged date then the query runs successfully.
Can anyone please help with this issue.
