MDX Query much slower for users without administrativ rights

We have a SQL 2012 SP1 with CU9 installed and run a MDX query against a Cube. The Problem is that the query runs very slow for a user without administrativ persmission on the cube. With admin rights it takes 3 seconds and without 30 seconds. I can't find
any error in the query so maybe someone can pin point me in the right direction. The Role has all reading information it needs.
This is the Query:
SELECT NON EMPTY { [Measures].[Blocked Consignment], [Measures].[Consignment in Inspection],
[Measures].[Restricted Consignment], [Measures].[Unrestricted Consignment] } ON COLUMNS, NON EMPTY
{ ([Date].[Date].[Date].ALLMEMBERS * [Materials].[Part Number].[Part Number].ALLMEMBERS *
[Materials].[Key].[Key].ALLMEMBERS * [Sold To].[Name].[Name].ALLMEMBERS *
[Stock Information].[Plant - Storage Location].[Storage Location].ALLMEMBERS * [Non Zero].[Zero Stock Status].[Zero Stock Status].ALLMEMBERS ) }
ON ROWS
FROM ( SELECT ( STRTOSET("[Non Zero].[Zero Stock Status].&[No]", CONSTRAINED) )
ON COLUMNS FROM ( SELECT ( STRTOSET("[Stock Information].[Storage Location].&[1090]", CONSTRAINED) )
ON COLUMNS FROM ( SELECT ( STRTOSET("[Stock Information].[Plant].&[1090]", CONSTRAINED) )
ON COLUMNS FROM ( SELECT ( STRTOSET("[Sold To].[Name].[All]", CONSTRAINED) )
ON COLUMNS FROM [Stock Snapshot]))))
WHERE ( IIF( STRTOSET("[Stock Information].[Plant].&[1090]", CONSTRAINED).Count = 1, STRTOSET("[Stock Information].[Plant].&[1090]", CONSTRAINED), [Stock Information].[Plant].currentmember ),
IIF( STRTOSET("[Stock Information].[Storage Location].&[1090]", CONSTRAINED).Count = 1, STRTOSET("[Stock Information].[Storage Location].&[1090]", CONSTRAINED), [Stock Information].[Storage Location].currentmember ) )
Any one came across this is or is it a bug?

Can you check which build of SSAS you've got installed? It looks similar to this bug:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2905298/en-us
Apart from that, if you have used cell security in your role, it would be expected that query performance would be slower for users of that role.

  • Alternative for HLS HTML streaming trough JW player for users without Flash?

    Hello!
I am using HLS TS Streaming trough JW player for the largest group of users that have flash for streaming video's.
Is there an alternative for users without flash?
    Best regards

    I will just summarize myself...
Adobe media server supports rtmp and HTTP(HLS and HDS)..
for rtmp streaming the swf running in a Flash player is the standard interface...that flash player may be an activeX control/plugin in your browser or may be a standalone player downloaded from adobe website...Chrome web browser however users a slightly different( PPAPI based) flash player(which is different from Adobe flash player) and is developed and maintained by google.
For HLS and HDS, you can either use special players(i.e swfs)(Flash based) developed Adobe by Adobe e.g Strobe meida player(Open Source Media Framework Blog | Adobe’s free and open source media playback system) or you can use players like jwplayer(Video Player Download | JW Player Online Video Player)... Incidentally jwplayer has added simultaneous support for playing rtmp streams too(which is reallly good), but i do not have much insight into workings of jwplayer...

  • Designing Java Apps for Users Without a JRE Installed Yet

Hi, sorry if this post is in the wrong place, but here goes:
I'm designing a Swing Java application for a client. My client intends to distribute/sell this application.
I'm concerned because, chances are that at least one of the people he distributes this application to will not have the JRE installed and will thus be unable to run the application.
Can anyone give me some suggestions on ways I can make my application more convenient for users without the JRE currently installed? Even some kind of error message that would direct the user to the JRE download site would be okay.

Use NSIS and package your application with JRE.
Add your jar files to lib/ext of the JRE package.
NSIS can create a short cut (desktop/start menu) to launch java class/jar file
I would not use webstart unless you are sure that clients will have access to the internet, the bandwidth is not an issue and installing the new JRE is allowed (permissions, SLA, etc.)

  • Do open fonts work in Word for users without the font on their machine?

Our team creates documents in Word and we would like to use an Open Font (Adobe Jenson Pro)--there is quite a bit of internal file-sharing and I don't want the font to switch to something ugly when it is reviewed in Word (because Word users do not have this font installed by default). I know that there is some cross-compatibility. We would like to apply this font to the template and don't want to introduce a font issue. anyone with experience know how if this works with the Open Font in word documents for users without it installed?

Welcome to the forum: please read the FAQ and forum sticky threads (if you haven't done so already), and ensure you have updated with your profile with a real handle instead of "866673".
You'll get a faster, more effective response to your questions by including as much relevant information as possible upfront. This should usually include:
    <li>Full APEX version
    <li>Full DB version and edition
<li>Web server architecture (EPG, OHS or APEX listener)
    <li>Browser(s)/version(s) used
    <li>Theme
    <li>Templates
    <li>Region type
(although for your question only the APEX version is necessary).
Assuming you mean a user who can authenticate to an application that uses Application Express Account Credentials?
    In APEX 4.0:
    1. Go to Home > Application Builder > [Your Application ] > Administration > Create Users and Groups > Create User
    2. Enter the User Identification information.
    3. In the Account Privileges, specify:
User is a workspace administrator: No
    User is a developer: No
    4. Complete the rest of the form as necessary.

  • Sequential read in sm66 - Database size 550GB - system slow for users

    Hello,
Currently when we use any standard transactions  or custom program, it is going to sequential read in sm66.
We are getting slowness in system due to this issue for users.

I understand that if you create Index on these table ( whichever it shows as sequential read ), it will improve the report performance.
Most of the time, system process shows that sequential read on VBAP, VKPA (sales tables), purchase tables, Finance tables and etc.
If sm66 shows as sequential read for few table, that means that corresponding user will get slowness on getting report/transaction output. I agree on that.
Is there any reason other user will get slowness ie if i run Va03 transaction, WE02 transaction which is not relevant to sm66 process over view.
I appreciate, if you give some recommendations reg. this performance improvement and to avoid this kind of sequential read.
I posted the Same question in DB forum also.
I want to get some more idea from this forum also. That is reason, i posted here again.

  • SSAS Tabular : MDX query goes OutOfMemory for a larger dataset

    Hello all,
I am using SSAS 2012 Tabular to build the cube to support the organizational reporting requirements. Right now the server is Windows 2008 x64 with 16GB of Ram installed. I have the following MDX query. What this query does is get the member caption of the
“OrderGroupNumber” non-key attribute as a measure where order group numbers pertain to a specific day and which occurs in specific seconds of a day. As I want to find in which second I have order group numbers, I cross the time dimension’s members with a specific
day and filter the tuples using the transaction count. The transaction count is a non-zero value if an Order Group Number occurs within a specific second of a selected day.
At present “TransactionsInflight].[OrderGroupNumber].[OrderGroupNumber]” has 170+ million members (Potentially this could grow rapidly) and time dimension has 86400 members.
    WITH
    MEMBER [Measures].[OrderGroupNumber]
    AS IIF([Measures].[Transaction Count] > 0, [TransactionsInflight].[OrderGroupNumber].CURRENTMEMBER.MEMBER_CAPTION,
    NULL)
    SELECT
    NON EMPTY{[TransactionsInflight].[OrderGroupNumber].[OrderGroupNumber].MEMBERS}
    ON COLUMNS,
    {FILTER(([Date].[Calendar Hierarchy].[Date].&[2012-07-05T00:00:00], [Time].[Time].[Time].MEMBERS),
    [Measures].[Transaction Count] > 0) } ON
    ROWS
    FROM [OrgDataCube]
    WHERE [Measures].[OrderGroupNumber]
After I run this query it reaches to a dead-end and freezes the server (Sometimes SSAS server throws OutOfMemory exception but sometimes it does not). Even though I have 16GB of memory it uses all the memory and doing nothing. I have to do a hard-reset against
the server to get the server online. Even I limit the time members using the “:” range operator still the machine freeze. I have run out of solutions to fine-tune the design. Could you guys provide me some guidelines to optimize this query? I am willing to
do a design change if it is necessary.
    Thanks and best regards,
    Chandima

    Hi Greg,
Finally I found the problem why the query goes out of memory in tabular mode. I guess this information will helpful for others and I am posting my findings.
Some of the non-key attribute columns in the tabular model tables (mainly the tables which form dimensions) do not contain pretty names. So for the non-key attribute columns which I need to provide pretty names I renamed the columns to something else.
For an example, in my date dimension there is a non-key attribute named “DateAltKey”. This is the date column which I am using. As this is not pretty to the client tools I renamed this column as “Date” inside the designer (Dimension
design screen). I deployed the cube, processed the cube and no problem.
Now here comes the fun part. For every table, inside the Tables node (Tabular SSAS Database > Tables) you can view the partition details. You have single partition per dimension table if you do not create extra partitions. I opened the partitions screen
and clicked on the “Edit” icon and performed a Syntax Check. Surprisingly it failed. It complains about the renamed column. It complained “Date” cannot be found in source. So I realized that I cannot simply rename the columns like that.
After that I created calculated columns (with a pretty name) for all the columns which complained and all the source columns to the calculated columns were hid from the client tools. I deployed the cube, processed the cube and performed a
syntax check. No errors and everything were perfect.
I ran the query which gave me trouble and guess what... it executed within 5 seconds. My problem is solved. I really do not know who did this improve the performance but the trick worked for me.
Thanks a lot for your support.

  • MDX Query Desinger Slow to Respond on a WAN

We are seeing the MDX Designer take a long time to open and to select filters.  Running a Query is fast, but selecting filters from dimension members that only have 2 to 10 members can take up to a minute to display and the same is true when dragging
the member into the Filter pane.  Executing the query is not an issue and the returned results even 1000's of rows is fairly quick.
    raym

    Hi rayishome,
According to your description, when you using multiple parameters in Filter in MDX Query Designer, it takes long time to execute the query. Right?
In this scenario, I want to know the version of SSRS you are using. It has reported similar issue in SSRS 2008, and this issue has been released in both SQL 2008 SP1 and SQL 2008 R2. Please refer to link below:

  • Query execution slow for the first time...

I am new to Oracle sql.
I have a query whose performance is very slow for the first time, but on subsequent executions its fast. When executed for the first time it is taking around 45 seconds and on subsequent executions, 600 milliseconds.
Is there a specific reason for this to happen. I am calling this query from my java code using a prepare statement.

Are the differences in queries solely in the where clause? If so can you parameterize the query and use bind variables instead so the only difference from one query to the next is the values of the bind variables? Using bind variables in your queries will enable the parser to reuse the already parsed queries even when the bound values differ.
Also there may be other optimizations that can be made to either your query or the tables that it is querying against to improve your performance. To be able to improve your queries performance you need to understand how it's accessing the database.
See Rob's thread on query optimization [When your query takes too long |http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=501834&start=0&tstart=0] for a primer on optimizing your query.

  • Automatic Adobe Update for users without admin privileges

    Hi there,
I have a PC with Windows 7 Professional (32bits) and Adobe Reader (9.4.6)
I have selected "Automatically install updates" in Preferences --> Updater:
The problem is: when a normal user (without admin privileges) is using the system, it turns up an Adobe Box which asks the user to install the Update:
But when the user tries to update, it asks to insert the admin password.
How can I solve this? I would like Adobe Reader updates to be downloaded and automatically installed for users in my PC without admin privileges. Is this possible?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Pablo

Anyone have any further insight into this?  Is there a way to simply give the user admin creds but only for Adobe Reader that would permit users to do thier own updates?
I don't want to have to constantly update the MSI I am deploying with GP/LUP if possible.
I am, however simply looking to update 11.0.0 to 11.0.1 ,11.0.2....etc without having to touch GP/LUP/each end user machine

  • Adding Adobe Content Viewer to Desktop for users without InDesign 5, 5.5, 6

We are starting to sell digital advertising and it would be nice if Adobe Content Viewer could be downloaded to the desktop for these advertisers who do not have tablet devices nor have InDesign 5, 5.5 and 6 on their machine. They are wanting to proof their ads in an interactive format on their desktop.

I also would like to see a Content Viewer for people without InDesign.
Better yet would be the ability to embed a viewer into a Folio, like a flash with a projector.

  • MDX query Running slow in SSRS than in SSMS

    Hi,
I have a SSRS report which takes 37 secs to execute a single MDX query whereas the same query takes less than 1 sec in SSMS.
I tried removing the parameters and hardcoding default values, still it takes same time. I also tried using OLE DB data source which also takes same time.
    Please help.

    Hi Purush,
According to your description, the query execute time in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) takes less than that in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) report, right? As per my understanding, this is normal phenomenon. Because when we run a query on the
query designer of the report, first we need pass the query to database, then execute the query and then return the result to query designer. So this 1 second can the time that used to pass the query to database and return the result.
    Hope this helps.

  • Updating flash for firefox without admin rights

I use Firefox in an environment in which only IE is supported. Every time Adobe updates Flash, I lose the ability to view Flash content in Firefox as I lack admin rights to update it.
I have tried the work arounds and none solve the problem. Previously I would just download Firefox again, reboot, and the update would be there. No longer works.
Is there just no way for Firefox to update Flash internally, especially for users who lack admin rights?
I greatly enjoy using it but if I can can't update Flash, I will have to go back to IE.

    Hi,
    try with this instruction:
    http://www.varesano.net/blog/fabio/installing+flash+player+plugin+firefox+without+having+administrator+access+or+premissions
Worked for me (and many others, as seems)

  • Install for users with limited rights.

Is there a way to install Flash player so users with limited rights can perform updates?  I don't want to touch hundreds of machines each time a minor upgrade is released.  Security policies dictate that users cannot have local admin rights.

Hi, not that I have heard of. If you can't update, then most likely you are under Group Policy and the IT Department would be in charge of that.
If it is possible, then someone else would need to reply to you.
    Thanks,
