MDX Question - roll up to parent value

Hi,
I have a relatively simple issue that I am not able to solve.
I have the following calculation as a calculated member in my cube:
SUM([Territory].[State - City Hierarchy].[City].CurrentMember.Parent, [Measures].[Total Sales])
What I would expect to see is that the City is assigned the total sales for the State.  So for example, if Total Sales is:
WA - Seattle - 15
WA - Tacoma - 10
Then instead of seeing the above I would instead see:
WA - Seattle - 25
Wa - Tacoma - 25
However with my code as is, this field is simply null.  Can anyone assist?

Hi,
Try removing the reference to the level of the hierarchy - that is;
SUM([Territory].[State - City Hierarchy].CurrentMember.Parent, [Measures].[Total Sales])
Also, you wont need the sum, so you can just define the measure as;
([Territory].[State - City Hierarchy].CurrentMember.Parent, [Measures].[Total Sales])

  • ASO - member level formula - rolling up non-additive values

    <p>I am trying to roll up not additive values (Yields, Percents,Spreads, etc.). In order to do this I have weighted members andmembers to weight them with. While there is an MDX way to calculate what you need, I think you'll want to use an alternative.
    The MDX member formula to calculate what you want, which you'd make the formula for a new account that you're trying to define, would be something like:
    Sum (
    Descendants ([Year].CurrentMember, [Year].Levels(0)),
    Sum (
    Descendants ([Time].CurrentMember, [Time].Levels(0)),
    [Interest Rate] * [Receivables]
    (I'm not sure what role [Transaction Count Indicator] plays; perhaps including
    Sum( Descendants([Transaction Count Indicator].CurrentMember, [Transaction Count Indicator].Levels(0) ...)
    is also warranted.)
    If your cube doesn't have any more dimensions than these, and they're not much bigger than you've indicated, then MDX performance on the aggregation won't be a big deal- your cube is pretty small. If your cube is much larger, then you really want to load a field that is the result of multiplying [Interest Rate] * [Receivables].
    When you say "Both sources contain attributes for all members in the Outline", I interpret that as "both sources have all the same dimensions". If that's the case, would it be possible to stage both sources to a single file and as part of the staging perform the multiplication? If you can stage to a table or even a view onto a join of two tables, then you can have SQL perform the multiplication. I don't think that you can specify the multiplication as part of a rules file (though I'd be happy to learn that you could).

  • Data not rolling up to Parent Level

    Working on BPC 7.5 Level 10
    Member set of report are on base level.
    Data Present on 2014.AUG but not rolling up to parent.

    Naveen,
    I am storing Data with Periodic  Measures.
    Jan          Feb          Mar          Q1
    100          50                              0          --- Q1 will be 0 as your ACCTYPE is AST/LEQ
    Now when i change the Measures in REPORT to YTD or Keep Periodic(By default AST and LEQ account type will refer to YTD).
    Jan          Feb          Mar          Q1
    100          50                             0
    As per the logic explained by you
    --> Data present for JAN,FEB on Periodic 100,50  - Yes . But when you say Feb Data is 50 it means your value has reduced from 100 in Jan to 50 in Feb which means the periodic value of Feb is -50. Dont get confused. For AST/LEQ value of 50 in Feb means the total balance till Feb is 50. You are getting 0 in Q1 as your March value has become 0 which means your total balance at the end of March is 0 and hence your Q1 ending March shows value 0. If you post something in March then your Q1 will show the same value.
    For AST/LEQ the Q1 value is same as the March value and Year.TOTAL value is same as Dec Value.
    -->Data should be when YTD JAN,FEB 100,150. For AST/LEQ ACCTYPES Measure YTD and Periodic show same values as AST and LEQ are YTD in nature by default.

  • Statistical calc with MDX question (Mode function as an excel)

    Hi All,
      I need to create an MDX Calc to Returns the most frequently occurring, or repetitive, value in an array or range of data.
      For example, the mode of 2, 3, 3, 5, 7, 10 is 3.
      In Excel I use the MODE() function but I don't know how to do this in MDX and add it as a measure in Universe.
      I can't do the formula in WEBI because we have big data volume and I can't retrieve all the customers in WEBI.
      We have SAP BW 7.0 and SAP BusinessObjects XI 3.1 fix pack 1.3
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    it looks like you created the entry twice so I would suggest you close on of them:
    Statistical calc with MDX question (Mode function as an excel)
    I don't think that those kind of statistical functions are available in MDX. you can always go to se37 and use the bapi_get_functions to see the list of supported functions.

  • A question about assigning a default value

    Hi guys, I have a question about assigning a default value to a Numeric Decision CO. This Co needs 2 parameters to compare with each other. I wanna assign para1 during runtime and para2 during design time, but I have no idea how to assign a default value to para2 during design time. Can anyone help me solve this question? Thx a lot.
    BTW I`m searching an article about Time-off example`s "details". I have read several articles about time-off example, but those are not detailed enough. I wanna know about all details of COs. Can anyone forward such article to me, plz.  Thx again.^^

    Hi,
    You can assign a default value to the parameter of a callable object.
    First attach your CO to an Action.At the action level you can assign default values to the CO Parameters.
    Select the action in the design time.
    Select the parameters tab for that action.
    Select the required paramter. At the top, you can find Default value tab, with that you can assign default value.
    I think you can achieve your requirements with Business logic CO better.

    FSG:EXPAND PARENT VALUE PROFILE OPTION 에 대한 설명
    ==============================================
    PURPOSE
    FSG 작성 시 'FSG: Expand Parent Value' profile 의 역할에 대해 설명한다.
    Explanation
    FSG:Expand Parent Value profile 은 FSG report 작성시 parent value 를 child ranges 로 부터 sum하여 가져 올 것이냐 아니면 parent vlaue 에서 가져 올 것이냐를 결정한다.
    Example
    Example 1
    FSG:Expand Parent Value = Yes
    Summary Flag = Yes
    Parent Value belongs to a Rollup Group
    Result:
    FSG looks for summary accounts that have this parent value for this segment.
    It does not expand the parent value into its child ranges.
    Example 2
    FSG:Expand Parent Value = Yes
    Summary Flag = Yes
    Parent Value does not belong to a Rollup Group
    Result:
    FSG expands the parent value into its child ranges, then looks for
    summary accounts that have values for this segment that are within
    these child ranges. (The summary template associated with this summary
    account would have to have a 'D' for this segment.)
    Example 3
    FSG:Expand Parent Value = Yes
    Summary Flag = No
    Parent Value belongs to a Rollup Group
    Result:
    FSG looks for detail accounts that have this parent value for this
    segment. It does not expand the parent value into its child ranges.
    It is never going to be successful.
    Example 4
    FSG:Expand Parent Value = Yes
    Summary Flag = No
    Parent Value does not belong to a Rollup Group
    Result:
    FSG expands the parent value into its child ranges, then looks for detail
    accounts that have values for this segment that are within these child
    ranges.
    Example 5
    FSG:Expand Parent Value = No
    Summary Flag = Yes
    Result:
    FSG looks for summary accounts that have this parent value for this
    segment. It does not expand the parent value into its child ranges.
    Example 6
    FSG:Expand Parent Value = No
    Summary Flag = No
    Result:
    FSG expands the parent value into its child ranges, then looks for
    detail accounts that have values for this segment that are within
    these child ranges.

  • LOGIC QUESTION - Posting to an alternate account based on parent value

    Hi
    I need to calculate the value of an aggregate account and then if the value of that aggregate account is negative, post all of its base level accounts (whose values might be DR and CR values) to an alternate account stored as a property in the account dimension.
    I started with the logic below with PKBS11002 being the aggregate account.
    *MEMBERSET(%AccountsList%,"Descendants([Account].[PKBS110022],999,LEAVES)")
    *XDIM_Memberset ACCOUNT = %AccountList%
    *CALC_DUMMY_ORG ACCOUNT = Parenth1
    *WHEN ACCOUNT
    *IS #PKBS110022
    *WHEN %VALUE%
    *IS <0
    //In this section i need to determine all the base accounts for PKBS110022 and then post their values to the alternate account.
    *ENDWHEN
    *ENDWHEN
    Regards,
    Byron

    I tried removing the line
    *XDIM_Memberset ACCOUNT = %AccountList%
    but no luck
    The two processes that I go through are as follows:
    Unsuccessful process
    Step 1: Import data
    Step 2: Run logic as above
    Result: No records posted
    Successful process
    Step 1: Import data
    Step 2: Delete records that are not a parent of PKBS110022
    Step 3: Run optimize to ensure update of OLAP
    Step 2: Run logic as above
    Result: Records posted correctly
    What i did notice is that in the Unsuccessful Log contains "failed test:GET(ACCOUNT="#PKBS110022")<0  : 0<0"

  • Parent value allocation considering aggregation operator

    Hello all Essbase gurus,
    I would appreciate an idea how to solve this allocation requirement.
    Outline
    (_Important_: In this example, consolidation property is set to "(+)Addition" for two members and "(-)Subtraction" for next three members.) :
    Account
         Total cost (~)
              Account1 (+)
              Account2 (+)
              Account3 (-)
              Account4 (-)
              Account5 (-)
    Users can enter or import values to Lev0 and Lev1 members. Let say, user entered value and expects 100 in "Total cost" member and 20 in "Account1".
    Account
         Total cost (~)     100
              Account1 (+)     20
              Account2 (+)
              Account3 (-)
              Account4 (-)
              Account5 (-)
    I need prepare calc script to allocate rest of value (80) to missing value members considering consolidation sign/operator. Weight is number of members with (+) and with (-).
    And this is my problem -> I don't know how to get consolidation property value into calc script.
    Expected result in this case:
    Account
         Total cost (~)     100
              Account1 (+)     20
              Account2 (+)     -40
              Account3 (-)     -40
              Account4 (-)     -40
              Account5 (-)     -40
    Is it possible to solve it using any available Essbase technology (ESSCMD, MaxL, MDX, Java functions, etc.)?
    Number of accounts can vary based on parent member. Accounts can be shared in alternate hierarchies.
    Similar question is Allocate an amount to #Missing values only but this assumes same aggregation operator for all members.
    Best regards
    Vladislav

    I tested in sample.basic, but I don't think its a good idea.
    1. set weight as store with formula
    if(@islev(measures,0))
    if(actual == #missing)
    1;
    else
    0;
    endif;
    endif;
    2. add this hierarchy to measures and input actual data p1,100 and c1,20
    P1 (+) 100
    C1(+) 20
    C2(+)
    C3(-)
    C4(-)
    C5(-)
    3. test it
    fix(JAN,@CHILD(P1),"new york","100-10")
    weight;
    endfix
    /* aggregation based on outline*/
    fix(JAN,weight,"new york","100-10")
    P1;
    endfix
    var temp = 0 ,changeParent=0;
    fix(JAN,@CHILD(P1),"new york","100-10")
    ACTUAL(
    IF(ACTUAL == #MISSING)
    if(changeParent == 0 or temp == 0)
    temp = @PARENTVAL(measures) - @SUM(@SIBLINGS (@currmbr(measures))) ;/*this sum will return the wrong result too*/
    endif;
    temp/ weight->@parent(measures);
    changeParent = @PARENTVAL(measures) - @SUM(@SIBLINGS (@currmbr(measures))) ;
    endfix

  • EIS - Delete members, have data still roll up to parents

    Hello everyone on the forums! I hope everyone reading this is doing well, or at least better than me.
    So I've read through all the documentation you can imagine to no avail. I'm running 9.3.1. What I'm trying to do is create an EIS job that has the data of the children of a certain member roll up to their parent without having the children show up in the cube itself.
    For example, let's say I have a level one parent 'New York' that has three and only three children: 'Brooklyn,' 'Queens,' and 'Manhattan.' Each child has a value of 100 at the intersections in question.
    What I want to do is have New York show up in the cube with the value of 300 for that intersection (one level up) without having the children in the cube. New York would thus become level zero.
    I've read that it may be possible via drill-through reporting, but I can't seem to find the right combination of level intersections and/or columns to choose.

    The table spells it all out, and I can identify the level 0 members. However, I do not want to filter out all the current level zero members, just the ones that fall under 'New York.'
    So, if New York has a sibling, Los Angeles, and Los Angeles has three children, Hollywood, Wilshire, and San Fernando, I still want them to show up in the cube. I only want their cousins at the same level (0) Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn removed.
    The application for this is to remove old members (products, locations, departments, etc.) that are no longer active, but whose balances are still meaningful for some point in the past. In the example above, this could be because the 'New York' division closed all three of its retail locations, but did not go out of business and might reopen them or relocate these retail locations to the Bronx or Staten Island.
    Thank you for taking the time to read my post and respond!

    The terms “parent” and “child” are part of network databases and NOT RDBMS. We have “weak entity” and “{strong entity” in our data models today.
    If you use the nested sets model, this hierarchical aggregation is easy. But your mindset is still in file systems, pointer chains and procedural language programming code. You also have no idea how ISO-11179 naming rules work.
    Most of the data element names are garbage! Most of your code is garbage, even after we get over the fundamental design errors.
    Think about how absurd “qty” as a data element name is in a schema. Quantity of what?? From logic (specifically the Law of Identity, the most fundamental law in mathematics) that “to be” (exist) is to be something in particular; so this has to be “<something
    in particular>_qty” to be valid. Your other data elemet names are also vague garbage.
    We do NOT use flags in SQL; this is a predicate language like Assembly code. We do NOT set flags; we discover a current “state of being” with predicates.
    Think about “GSS_Hr_Cost_Relation” as a name. Is there only one of them, as you have said?? Would also call a table of “Marriages” a “Man_Woman_Legal_Relations” ? NO! The relationship has a name of its own!
    CAST(1 AS FLOAT) is better written AS a constant E1.0; but it is weird. why are you using FLOAT? Do you want rounding errors? Why do you write crap like “CAST(34.00 AS DECIMAL(16, 2)”  when an insertion of just 34.00 works better? Why do you write crap
    like “CAST(0x0000a3db00000000 AS DATETIME” instead of using ISO-8601 formats, DATE and DATETIME2(0) data types?
    Then you have no idea what kind of attribute a “<something>_code” is and why it cannort ever be key. Go to any library and look at the Dewey DECIMAL Classification system. The hierarchy is in the encoding itself, NOT in some multiple levels of storage.
    Why do you have more NULL-able columns than the loan systems of major automobile corporations? I can answer that! Your schema is a disaster that needs to be re-done.
    Putting audit data into the table being audited is both stupid and illegal! And then to make it worse, “datecreated” should have been “creation_date” if the moron knew ISO-11179 rules. But it is still a crime; what happens to the audit data when the row is
    deleted or the table is dropped? Can a person with access to the data also have access to the audit trail? DOH!
    The use of “NVARCHAR(50)” might be correct in places where the data actually is in Unicode varying strings. I think I have seen ~10 of them in 30 years of writing SQL. But everything does not qualify; most likely some moron using ACCESS or a ORM tool used this
    default because he is both stupid and lazy. Fire him; his ignorance is dangerous to the project.
    Most ISO encodings are fixed length and between 9 and 16 characters with a regular expression for validation. Not all but most.
    Finally, after all the decades of RDBMS, why do you use “mat_id INTEGER IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL”?? Why do you think that the insertion attempt count of one table is a valid logical attribute, much less a KEY?
    You do not know how to write an INSERT UNTO statement! Look up the VALUES () clause and row constructions.
    I have decades of my life invested in SQL and RDBMS. Reading code like this is painful. Can you please get a minimal education and correct this mess? I have been asked to write a book on bad SQL and this is classic illiterate programming! Almost nothing is
    right.
    Sorry, but you wanted help and the best help is to stop you from doing more harm until you can learn how to do it properly. >> I want to sum every parent recursively to the top of parent <<

  • Entity data in alternate rollup not rolling up to parent.

    We have a number of different entity hierarchies in our application.  In our main entity hierarchy we have system rules setup to pull specific account data down to STAT accounts for particular entities and then that same STAT account data is pulled over to another entity multiplied by -1 as an offset so when the two entities rollup to a common parent the result is 0.  This offset entity exists in other hierarchies.  In the other hierarchies this offset entity STA account data does not rollup to the parent.  The data only shows up to Parent Currency Total in the value dimension.  Anything above that is empty, but viewing the parent.child combo in the main hierarchy and we can see data populated all the way up to Contribution Total, therefore roling up to the parent.  Below is the rules we have setup.
    Here in simplier terms is what we see.
    Hierarchy 1
    Entity A = $10
    Entity B = -$10
    Parent Entity C = $0
    Hierarchy 2
    Entity B = -$10 (Entity A does not exist in this hierarchy)
    Parent Entity D = $0 (should be -$10)
    Has anyone see an issue like this before?
    Rule
    If HS.Scenario.Member <> "ProForma" Then
       If HS.Value.Member <> "[Elimination]" Then
      If HS.Entity.Member() = "E261" Then
       HS.Clear "A#AC90285"
       HS.Exp "A#AC90285 = A#AC76740"
       HS.Clear "A#AC90286"
       HS.Exp "A#AC90286 = A#AC70160"

       HS.Clear "A#AC90286"
       HS.Exp "A#AC90286 = A#AC70160"
      End If
    'E103 - Corporate offset
    If YearPOV > "2013" Then
      If EntityPOV = "E103" Then
       HS.Clear "A#AC90285"
       HS.Exp "A#AC90285.I#[ICP None] = (E#E300.A#AC90285.I#[ICP Top] + E#E104.A#AC90285.I#[ICP Top]) * (-1)"
       HS.Clear "A#AC90286"
       HS.Exp "A#AC90286.I#[ICP None] = (E#E300.A#AC90286.I#[ICP Top] + E#E104.A#AC90286.I#[ICP Top]) * (-1)"
       HS.Clear "A#AC90287"
       HS.Exp "A#AC90287.I#[ICP None] = (E#E300.A#AC90287.I#[ICP Top] + E#E104.A#AC90287.I#[ICP Top]) * (-1)"

      End If
      End If

    There are trigger account rules, but not for this scenario.  This also occurred before we added those rules.  If you see below in our main hierarchy E100 we have a corporate offset for -2,695,080 which goes against the data rolling up in E104 and E300.  In the secondary hierarchy only E103 exists with one other entity E428 and for some reason that offset data does not roll up to the parent E060.

  • Essbase MDX question

    Hi there
    I am at a client where I have to do comparative store analysis. Basically with MDX I need to do the following:
    When doing comparable store analysis on a daily level in my Time dimension a store must have traded a year ago on the same comparable day as per the company's trading calendar.
    When doing comparable store analysis on a weekly level a store must have traded a year ago for the full same comparable previous year's week (i.e. all the days in the week) as per company's trading calendar.
    If the criteria is not met #missing must be returned else the day or week value.
    On day level my MDX works fine:
    CASE
    WHEN
    IsLevel([Entity].CurrentMember, 0) AND
    IsLevel([Time].CurrentMember, 0) AND
    NOT IsEmpty([Periodicity].[LY])
    THEN
    ([LY], [Act], [Time].CurrentMember, [Entity].CurrentMember, [Account].CurrentMember)
    END
    The question is on a week level how do I check if a store traded on every single day of the same week last year. Getting the week is no problem, but checking every child of that week.
    Just another point on this: I need to do this on month, quarter etc levels as well, so hard coding to check from day 1 to 7 will not suffice.
    Thanks
