MDX select dimension member by name

Hi, I run this query no problem in SSMS.
select [Measures].[Promo sold value] on columns
, [Promotions].[Promotion].&[1922] on rows
from [Rmis]
But I got nothing when I replace the key 1922 with the name of the member :
select [Measures].[Promo sold value] on columns
, [Promotions].[Promotion].&[somename] on rows
from [Rmis]
What's the correct way to do this?

you need to use STRTOSET function for that

  • Error selecting a dimension member in BPC EPM report - The given key was not present in the dictionary

    Hi,
We are currently running SAP BPC 10.1 NW on Hana
    Version:
    CPMBPC  810 SP 4
    SAP_BW  740 SP 9
    HANABPC 810 SP 4
    EPM Excel Add-in 10 SP 21 .NET 4 build 9094.
On my embedded model. I have a BEX query on a aggregation level which I access in a report using the EPM Add-in Excel .
When I edit my report in EPM Add-in Excel , and I try to select the dimension members for a selected dimension member, I get the following error.
"The given key was not present in the dictionary"
Any assistance to help resolve the problem will be appreciated.
    Regards
    Gavin

    Hi Shrikant,
I had a look at MBR_SEQ , it is a attribute on the dimension member in BW , this relates to a past version of BPC 7.5. We are currently on BPC 10.1 Embedded model , and the MBR_SEQ does not exist on any of the characteristics I have in my info cube.
When I create a web report I am able to access the dimension members using the select dimensions options, the problem seems to be on the EPM Add-in Excel client only.
    Thanks

  • MDX: Selecting specific dimension member and its descendants from parent child dimension where dimension member names can be same in dimension hierarchy

I'm creating a SSRS report using SSAS cube as a source.
When creating a dataset for the report, I'm having trouble with MDX to select a specific dimension member and its descendants from parent child dimension where dimension member names can be same in dimension hierarchy.
Lets say for example that I have an account dimension where,
    In level 02 I have company ID:s 101, 102, 103 and so on...
In level 03 I have Balance sheet
In level 04 I have some account groups, Assets, Liabilities and so on... and In level 05 I have individual accounts
How can I select for example company 102:s Assets from level 04 and its descendants?
Normally in adventure works I would do this if I've wanted Current Assets and its descendants:
SELECT NON EMPTY { [Measures].[Amount] } ON COLUMNS, NON EMPTY
    { (DESCENDANTS([Account].[Accounts].[Account Level 03].[Current Assets]) ) } ON ROWS
    FROM [Adventure Works]
But in my Account dimension at level 04 I have Assets member as many times as I have companies in level 02.

    Hi Tuomo Helminen,
To this requirement of yours, I would recommend you use Cascading Parameters in Reporting services, you can refer to this FAQ How do I create cascading parameters when using cube database in Reporting Services at this link

  • Reading data from a text file into PAS - Dimension member names truncated

    Hi,
I created a procedure to dump variables and data into a text file to load into another model. I used a semicolon as a field seperator.
The data, measures and dimension members are dumped properly into a text file and no dimension member names are truncated .
However when I read the data into  a measure, and I issue a peek command, dimension meber names are read in truncated
and remain full names in the text file. Any reason for this? What do I need to do to prevent this from happening?
    THanks.
    Lungile

    Hi Lungile,
The problem that you're likely having is that you haven't created a file description for the file from which you're reading.  When loading data into Application Server from a text file, you would normally go through three steps:
    1. Enter the ACCESS EXTERNAL subsystem
    2. Specify the name of the file to be read
    3. Specify the format of the file field names, types, widths, and positions.
If you go into the Application Server help, select "Application Server Help", then "Application Server at the command level", then "Variables and reading in data", and then "Reading an external file", you will have the process of the steps you need to follow outlined for you, including links to the help topic for each command you need to issue.
So what I think you need to do is use the DESCRIPTION command to specify the names of your fields, their type, and also their width, in order to ensure no truncation of data on the load.
The same DESCRIPTION statement is required if you want to use your text file as the source of a dimension.
    Hope this helps,
    Robert

  • Change description of dimension member based on selection in other dimension

    Problem
Let’s say that I have two dimensions Dim Account and Dim Company.
Dim Account consists of Account and Account Description. Each Account has one description for each Company.
I want the description in Dim Account be based on which Company that is selected.
So if Company 1 is selected the description should be set to Account_Company1_Desc if Company2 is selected Account_Company2_Desc should be selected and so on…
If more than one company is selected, the Account_General_Desc should be used.
I would be very grateful if anyone has
an idea of how this problem could be solved.
    Best Regards
    AL

    Hi AL_T,
According to your description, you want to have the description show general_desc when selection multiple companies. Right?
In this scenario, since each company has one description, we should already build the relationship between company and company_desc. However, in Analysis Services, it's not supported to apply MDX expression to make a relationship dynamically. And we
can't make it show different members of a dim based on number of another dimension member selection in query. So your requirement can't be achieved currently.

  • Deleting comments for multiple dimension member selection

    Hi all,
When using the package (using /CPMB/CLEAR) to delete data and comments (TASK(/CPMB/CLEAR_COMMENTS_FOR_CLEAR,ENABLETASK,1)), there seems to be a problem to delete comments when using a multiple member selection. When selecting <all> or a single dimension member for a given dimension, data and comments are effectively deleted. However, when selecting eg 2 members, the data is deleted, but the comments remain in the comment tables. Any ideas on how to solve this, without running the package x-times when comments on x members need to be deleted?
    Kind Regards,
    Christophe

    Hi,
I don't know whether your question is answered or not . Please look into the following which may be helpful to you.
As far as i know u can
    1. Delete Comments selecting " ALL" member selection.
    2. Delete comment selecting " SINGLE MEMBER "  --> _Multiple member selection is not supported in NW._
Please look into the following SAP Note on this which may be useful to convince the client:

  • EVDRE - Dimension Member Selection in Template

    Hi,
I'm working on an input schedule which has fixed rows and column structure.
    Rows structure is:
Material - fixed set of materials
    Supplier - dynamically selectable
Requirement is ... users want to have a drop down list in every row to select Supplier, from available list, for every material. Considering there will be 1-1 relation between material and supplier.
    My questions are:
    - Is it possible to select dimension members (suppliers) through drop down list in the input schedule?
    - how can we get dimension members displayed in the drop down list?
    Would appreciate your help.
    Regards,
    Shabbar

    Hi,
Since you said that the structure is quite static in nature, you can keep drop down for the supplier using native excel's data validation. In some hidden cells, place all the suppliers, you want to. In the input schedule, in the cells where you want your drop down, create data validation as list and refer to the cells having the predefined values for suppliers.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi Vincent,
In your query, you use CrossJoin in it. Crossjoin function will cause the performance issue if there are a lot of properties that need to be displayed. If you cross-join medium-sized or large-sized sets (e.g., sets that contain more than 100 items each),
you can end up with a result set that contains many thousands of items—enough to seriously impair performance. For the detail information, please see:
    http://sqlmag.com/data-access/cross-join-performance
In your MDX query, ensure only retrieval the required data. Here are some useful links for your reference.

  • Need to change dimension member in context based on the member property

    Hi,
When i select the one particular entity i.e. E_1100 , it having the currency property is INR, this currency has to change  the RPTCURRENCY dimension member i.e. INR. in the context member.
Context is locked for the users.
    for example:
In context i have Entity dimension, RPTcurrency dimension
                               E_1100               INR.
In report user having the select parameter for the Entity Dimension. Now he has selected the E_1200  in the report , but it has currency property is USD
now the RPT Currency dimension should have to display the  USD in the Context.
    Please anybody help me.
    Regards.
    Surya

    Hi Surya,
you can achieve this using simple VBA code. Use below vba code for overriding the context member. assign this code to button. it will change the context member.
Copy paste below code in one module and assign this code to the button.
    First Enable FPMXLClient
    Dim epm As New FPMXLClient.EPMAddInAutomation
    Sub change context()
    Dim CONNE As String
    CONNE = epm.GetActiveConnection(ActiveSheet)
    'To set context
    epm.SetContextMember CONNE, "CURRENCY", Range("A1")
    'To refresh
    epm.RefreshActiveWorkBook
    End Sub
where CURRENCY==> use your dimension name whose context want to change
Range("A1") ==> In A1 cell Populate property using EPMMemberproperty()
Basically we will set context member and refresh the workbook. After selection of the entity click on button so macro will run and context member will gets override in the Context Bar.

  • How to further restrict the task profile 'dimension' to selected dimensions

    Hi All,
We have a dimension which we require users to maintain their own master data. We have used the secondary admin task profile which provides default access to the task 'dimension'. THis allows that user access to the BPC Admin console and also to the dimension to maintain dimension members. However, we wish to limit their access to only certain defined dimensions & not give them access to all dimensions. I have tested using this task profile together with a member access profile to limit the secure dimensions for an application, however my understanding is that member access profiles will not restrict access once a user has logged into the BPC Admin Client...i.e the member access profile restricts the ability to read/write to 'facts'/sign data from a BPC front end tool, EG excel.
Any ideas much appreciated as to how to acheive this,
    Glen

    Hi,
As you said for maintaining dimension members, you had to assign a task to the task profile. However, assigning this task will allow the user to modify any of the dimensions.
You cannot give authorization to allow only selected dimensions. BPC doesnt have this feature. Either the user can modify all the dimensions or none of them.
    Hope this helps.

  • The window to select dimensions simply does not appear and I can't move forward, due to variables exit in the report

    Dear experts,
I am having an issue when I try to create a WEBI document using Bex query through OLAP connection (Bics).
Due to variables exit, it is not possible to open query pannel in webi to choose wich dimensions to add to the webi document.
The window to select dimensions simply does not appear and I can't move forward!
In RSRT ou Bex Analyzer, the query is running fine without errors.
CMOD code is like this (I believe there is not any error as it is working flawless on other reports for other variable names):
    WHEN 'ZREDT1'.

           CLEAR wa2.
READ TABLE i_t_var_range INTO wa2 WITH KEY vnam = 'ZRE_DT_IN'.

             wa1-opt  = 'EQ'.
             wa1-sign = 'I'.
             APPEND wa1 TO e_t_range.
           ENDIF.
         ENDIF.
    Please provide assistance,
    Thanks in advance,
    Kind regards,
    André Oliveira

    I solved it.
The problem was due to date coming to exit - as you know some time intervals start at 01-01-1000, and as I was calculating 1000-1 = 999
I was getting and interval from 99901 to 201405. Do not know if it was not working because CHAR NUMC6 was failing trying to recognize interval 99901 - 201405, but probably, this was the issue.
    Thanks for your inputs,

  • ORA-35563: Multiple values exist for an attribute of this dimension member

After following the tutorial Building OLAP Cubes I was trying to make a cube with aggregation down to the day instead of down to the month.
I created a times table pretty similar to the one used in the tutorial:
    CREATE TABLE EVENT_TIMES (
            HOUR_KEY        DATE NOT NULL,
            DAY_ID          VARCHAR2(10),
            DAY_NAME        VARCHAR2(10),
            DAY_END_DATE    DATE,
            DAY_TIME_SPAN   NUMBER,
            MONTH_ID        VARCHAR2(30) NOT NULL,
            MONTH_NAME      VARCHAR2(40),
            MONTH_END_DATE  DATE,
            MONTH_TIME_SPAN NUMBER,
            YEAR_ID         VARCHAR2(30) NOT NULL,
            YEAR_NAME       VARCHAR2(40),
            YEAR_END_DATE   DATE,
            YEAR_TIME_SPAN  NUMBER
As you can see, instead of a DAY_KEY like in the tutorial, I now use an HOUR_KEY.
This is a sample of the data I inserted in this table:
    select to_char(hour_key,'YYYYMMDDHH24MISS'),DAY_ID,DAY_NAME,DAY_END_DATE,DAY_TIME_SPAN,MONTH_ID,MONTH_NAME,MONTH_END_DATE,MONTH_TIME_SPAN,YEAR_ID,YEAR_NAME,YEAR_END_DATE,YEAR_TIME_SPAN from event_times;
    TO_CHAR(HOUR_KEY,'YYYYMMDDHH24MISS') DAY_ID     DAY_NAME   DAY_END_DATE DAY_TIME_SPAN MONTH_ID                       MONTH_NAME                               MONTH_END_DATE MONTH_TIME_SPAN YEAR_ID                        YEAR_NAME                                YEAR_END_DATE YEAR_TIME_SPAN
    20140104050000                       Y2014M1D4  Y2014M1D4  04-JAN-14                1 Y2014M1                        Y2014M1                                  31-JAN-14                   31 Y2014                          Y2014                                    31-DEC-14                365
    20140104060000                       Y2014M1D4  Y2014M1D4  04-JAN-14                1 Y2014M1                        Y2014M1                                  31-JAN-14                   31 Y2014                          Y2014                                    31-DEC-14                365
I then created my TIME dimension with DAY as the lowest level.
When I try the maintain cube option it fails at the 'LOAD NO SYNCH' step with the rejected records having an error message that says:
ORA-35563: (XSRWLD17) Multiple values exist for an attribute of this dimension member.
To me, this is a very cryptic message and the only explanation I find online is:
    Cause
Multiple source table rows containing different values for a dimension attribute were found. Only the first of the multiple rows has been loaded.
    Action
Fix the mapping or remove the rows with conflicting attribute values..
This confuses me. In the tutorial the lowest level was day and the TIMES table contained 1 record for each day.
In my example, the lowest level is hour and the TIMES table contains 1 record for each hour.
Which attribute has multiple values? And which values?
The rejected records (101) are not very clear:
    ALIAS_1 = 'MONTH_Y2014M1' AND ALIAS_3 = to_date('31JAN14') AND ALIAS_4 = 31 AND ALIAS_5 = 'Y2014M1' AND ALIAS_6 = 'Y2014M1' AND ALIAS_7 = 'YEAR_Y2014'
If anyone can help point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen this recently. The issue is with the dimension load itself.  You have a hour level record table but the rules relating to hierarchy/attribute values etc are checked/reinforced during the load and this error comes up sometimes.
I would guess that the issue seems to be with your month level information present in the higher level month columns. There are many records corresponding to a single month in ur case, month of Y2014M1. Information relating to Month level member Jan 2014 or member MONTH_Y2014M1 is present in these records: 31 (days) *24 (hours) = 744 records. The data in these 744 records for columns - MONTH_ID, MONTH_NAME, MONTH_END_DATE, MONTH_TIME_SPAN need to be exactly the same in order for the single member MONTH_Y2014M1 to have month attributes loaded with valid values.
For e.g: if records #1 to #743 contain month_timespan=31 but for some unknown reason record #744 contains month_timespan=30 then this error will come up. OLAP does not know which value to load (31 or 30), and only 1 value can be loaded onto the month level member corresponding to month Y2014M1.
A quick check of the data should give you the answer. Typically there may be some mistake/invalid assumptions made with the boundary records (in your case, check for values for records corresponding to hour=0 or hour=23/24) which is causing the issue.

  • BI Addin Query- Using Dimension Member ID?

When we query OLAP cubes via Excel Add-in by default for each dimension member we see the Long description. So example the for business unit we see the description - HEDGE_FUNDS instead of the member ID e.g. 13408 in this case.
We have option to display either Short or long description in report but there is no such option to select member_id instead of long description during querying.
So for example while querying we want to select Member ID and see Member ID's in dimension selection instead of Long description? Is anybody aware if this is a feature available in Excel addin. We are using version 10.1.2.3

You should load the member id as long description to display it. I dont think** there is any other way.
Generally the requirements is like users would like to see long description as the codes are some numbers or alphanumeric values which cannot be recognised by end users(hard to remember) so the best approach is to load the long description as id_description. This change should be done in the dimensin view which is source for the dimension.
    Thanks
