Media Streaming shows no entries

Media Server is set up, shared folders for Video, Music and Pictures are configured and the Server seems to run correctly so far, BUT it offers no files for streaming.
The Media Server is up and running, the underlying services are OK, no errors show up in the event logs.
I ran the Powershell tasks to correct possible account issues:
Add-ADPrincipalGroupMembership -Identity MediaAdmin$ -MemberOf Administrators
Install-ADServiceAccount MediaAdmin
... but still no effort.
The log shows stuff like:

I recognized that the index at C:\Users\MediaAdmin$\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player\CurrentDatabase_400.wmdb is created but at a static size of 896 KB. Even if deleted and recreated
by the Media Server it stays at that size. I have some thousands of music and video files.
To me it seems that the Media Server is not indexing the shared folders.
Any clues?

My problem seemed a little more deep rooted that those above but I found a fix - as crude as it may be!
Problem
Just to be clear, my issue was that, through the web interface I could happily browse shared music, pictures, video folders but the media library displayed 0 files in any/all folders (nothing via DLNA android app either).
I had moved my serverfolder\Music (and videos, pictures etc) from c:\serverfolder\Music to D:\serverfolder\Music after initial setup (and I think, after enabling media sharing initially)
Troubleshooting
I tried the force re-index fix found in a few places of the media with no success.
I tried unchecking each media share folder then turning off media sharing, rebooting, re-enabling media sharing and rechecking the music, videos and picture folders, no luck.
I moved one folder (music) back to the original (c:\) location using the inbuilt wizard accessed through the dashboard > storage > right click folder > move and the folder reappeared within the web interface medial sharing...so def a missed link somewhere
when performing the wizard "move folder"
Fix
I then decided to probe the registry and although most of the references to "serverfolder" appeared to be correct (i.e. all but music pointed to the d:\ location) there was one set of references that still pointed to the original c:\ locations for videos, pictures
etc. That location is:
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-3381531252-274529485-2159224665-1104\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences\HME\ShareFolders
For some reason the same path does not exist within other user folders but renaming the offending strings to point to the correct location (think there were two for each folder) now meant that (following a reboot) the media files were visible in the web interface
(and via a DLNA app on android - 2Player).
The web interface took an age to update (and spat out errors a few times, logged me out etc) and seemed to find a few more files each time it updated (started with 120 songs, 1100 pictures and 250 videos and finally ended with 5000+ songs, 12000 pictures and
500 videos). But having been patient it is much quicker to load now.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.

Use as a media streamer?

I have a 'spare' 1.66ghz core duo mini.
I am trying to determine if I could use it as a media streamer to my TV.
ie I want to use the rascal for external services like netflix and amazon...
Some questions:
1) My cable connection is a nominal 4mbs/sec. Is this adequate bandwidth for
Watching movies from netflix? The mini would be connected to my lan
Via 802.11g wireless.
2) I can attach the mini to the tv via a mini dvi to hmdi cable for the video but
I am not clear on how to handle the sound. I don't want to install an audio
processor and I am not sure I can get suitable audio from the headphone Jack.
I have a wd tv live for showing local video, and it works fine for that task.
Any suggestions?

Your mini should have a full sized DVI connector if it is the 1.66ghz Core Duo model. A DVI to HDMI connection should work well, depending more on the settings offered by your TV. For audio, see if one of the HDMI ports on the TV has a set of audio inputs paired with it. If so, that is the one you should use to connect your mini, and you can easily use a stereo 3.5mm (1/8") to stereo RCA (phono 'red and white') cable to pass the audio to your TV. You can also use digital optical input if your TV offers that paired with an HDMI input, but if your TV only has 2 speakers anyway, this may not be necessary.

Airport Base Extreme & HD media streaming poorly

Hi All
Just wondering if anyone else is having an issue with streaming media from the Airport Base Extreme?
So my setup is
1Tb Buffalo Drive into logitech USB2.0 Hub into ABE
2 x PC's on wired network through ABE
1 x MacBook Pro on wireless
I use the MacBook Pro as a media server through the tv/stereo and had the gold idea of using the ABE as a file server for music/movies
In reality things are not as simple. I cannot stream movies without very noticeable jumping of the movie and music jumps as well - this is to the mac. To the PC's the streaming is fine with no problems. If i stream movies / music from the ABE to the PC's its fine.
so media streaming as follows (Server) -> (Client ) - Result
PC -> Mac - OK
Mac -> PC - OK
ABE -> PC - OK
ABE -> Mac - All media choppy
Anybody else had this problem and if so has anyone managed to solve it?

On your Macbook, bring up the Activity Monitor application and
select the network tab. It will show you a graph network data transfer
rates. Perform the Macbook tests you mentioned and note the rates
and character (smooth and continuos,very spiky,lots of gaps,etc.).
Also, what software are you using for each of your tests. Just want
to make sure comparing apples to apples (no pun intended.)

Airport Extreme, 5Ghz connectivity problems and poor media streaming

Hi,
I purchased an extreme from the apple store a little over a week ago, and before I send the device back I would like to solicit recommendations from this forum.
Some information about the setup:
- Single airport extreme (supplying wifi services for my non-wifi DSL router and a connected USB disk)
- Airport Extreme Firmware: 7.4.2
- iTunes: 9.0
- OS: Snow Leopard (10.6.1), Leopard (10.5.8), Window Vista.
- Harddrive: 2TB lacie, USB2.0 connection only
- 2.4 and 5 Ghz broadcasting mode
- The device is broadcasting on all supported protocols.
- Multiple clients (various: apple, microsoft, fujitsu)
- Small space, no major concrete/brick/stone walls, signal strength is 5 bars of goodness
- Country: Spain (I know there were 5Ghz restrictions here a while ago, but the device broadcasts on 5Ghz and is therefore not crippled).
If anything else could be of use, let me know and I'll update this list.
And now the problems:
1) 5Ghz connections fail
When connecting over the 5Ghz freq my connectivity to the extreme and the services it is offering (internet, disk sharing) is intermittent, at best. Basically, it has not worked reliably since I took it out of the box. This is equal for both of my macbooks and a fujitsu laptop (all with n support).
I've tried switching channels to avoid congestion - I don't live in a wifi-heavy area, and there are no other likely sources of interference (e.g. microwaves, cordless phones).
My connections to mounted disks come and go, I have to re-authenticate, and so on.
A general scan of the environment with KisMac does not show any major interference from other wifi networks (only 2 others in range, one is wimax).
I've tried to do some wifi analysis to see if I can spot any frame/packet related issues. Some rudimentary analysis indicates that when the connection stops working on the 5Ghz channel my laptop continually sends request-to-send packets to the extreme, but does not receive a clear-to-send. This occurs after a-few-seconds to a-couple-of-minutes of connectivity - the connection initially 'works' (i.e. wifi packets are sent/received correctly and I can access the internet).
2) Data access and media streaming from the connected USB drive is very poor
I've mostly had problems with itunes. I thought this might be related to the size of my library, but this shouldn't effect single track playing. Even enabling large buffering in itunes results in intermittent pauses and long track loading.
Note: this occurs over b/g connections; as stated already, n connections don't work. iTunes simply goes into a coma for while and then eventually fails. See above. Also, if I just stream from my macbook (i.e. HD connected via USB), it works flawlessly.
The extreme was running 7.4.2 - updated on first connection. It's now running 7.4.1, as I read on the forums that there were some perceived problems with 7.4.2 (although these perceptions may not be accurate.
Concl(f)usion:
I believe I've ruled out the following:
- Distance
- Interference
- Laptop related issues (the same problem occurs with 2 macbooks and a fujitsu laptop).
- Latest firmware
- Software (apps, OS, etc)
Which leaves me to ponder two possibilities:
a) The extreme is damaged.
b) The extreme is not a good product (surely this can't be so?!)
There is, of course, a c-possibility ... that the collective experience of the online community might be able to offer me an alternative path?
I would be very grateful if anyone could offer any suggestions, tips, tricks, spells or simply a hug before I contact apple to begin the process of explaining the issues and seeking some care.

I have had the same problem. Really frusrtating, expecially since the reason I bought the airport was because of all the wireless congestion in my neigborhood with only 11 channels on the 2.4 GHz spectrum.
Bought my airport dual band about a week ago. It had the firware 7.4.2. After extensive searching, I found other with similar issues. Apparently the last stable firmware may be 7.3.8. I am on 7.4.0 and not having any issues any longer (only testing one day now).
This may solve your issue. Login to your airport and choose manual setup. on the summary page, find 'Version' 7.x" and click on the word 'version'. This will allow you to rollback your firmware. I went with 7.4. Depending on what options you need with airdisk, Time Capsule, rolling back may remove those options, so experiment. You can always go back to 7.4.1 or 7.4.2 from within the interface.

Unable to turn on media streaming

Whenever I click on "Turn on media streaming" the button goes grey and the cursor show the system is busy but then nothing happens. When I was first setting up the Windows 7 RC I tried this and I was able to access a list of devices which included my xbox360 but I have never been able to get to that menu again. I have tried going through WMP12 and turning streaming on but that does not work either.
The only other odd thing that happens is about 50% of the time that I try to start WMP12 it will not load at all and I have to restart my system and try to open it again.

Please check if you can turn it on in a Clean Boot environment:

1)     Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Search box, and then press Enter.
Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window.
2)   Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).
3)   Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".
Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK.
NOTE: we can go back to normal boot by running msconfig again and checking on Normal Startup in the General tab.
In the Clean Boot Environment, the third party services and applications are disabled, please check if you can turn on media streaming at this time.
If the problem does not occur, it indicates that the problem is related to one application or service we have disabled. You may use the MSCONFIG tool again to re-enable the disabled item one by one to find out the culprit.

I am having difficulty getting my wifi router to find my panasonic media streamer....it was working fine but now will not show anything through the DLNA....says it is not connected and yet in my network connection on the streamer it says I am connected?...everything on my computer is set up to share to all the devices

Hi, cross506. Is your panasonic media streamer wirelessly connected to the network? If yes, you may need to disconnect and reconnect it back to the network. You may also consider setting a static ip on it to make sure it will work properly.

Data in the cube is showing multiple entries when compared with ODS

We have a waste report in production planning on Cube and ODS separately. The same info package loads both targets (which means same infosource) but when we run a report on Cube, the records are showing multiple entries (i.e. Key Figures are not matching when compared to ODS) where as the ODS records are showing correctly as it was in R/3. There are totally 6 key figures out of which 4 pulled from R/3 and 2 are populated in BW.
An Example:
Waste report in PP run for plant 1000 for 12/2005 and process order 123456. The operational scrap should be 2.46% and the component scrap should be 3.00% for material 10000000. The report is showing 7.87% for planned operational waste % and 9.6% for planned component waste %. These values are not correct. The ODS values for order 123456 matched the data in R/3 for component and operational scrap.
There is a Start routine to the ODS and also to the cube. I am not good at ABAP so requesting your Help.

In ODs we have option of overwriting and addition however in Cube we have only adition.Thats why you are getting multiple enteries.
If you are running daily full load on the cube then please delete the earlier requests.
So at one point of time there should be only one full load request in cube. Hope this will solve your problem.

ITunes and other media streaming

Hey all,
I have recently acquired a new sound system, a set of B&W 685 speakers, a NAD receiver, and an external DAC. Currenly I use my airport express to stream music from my laptop (macbook pro retina) to the system, but unfortunately as my itunes library grows larger I am running out of space on my laptop.
What I am looking for is a solution to store and play my music from an external source through my sound system, preferably controlling it with my phone, and not having to turn on my computer every time I want to listen to some music. Based on that explanation it does sound a lot like a SONOS Connect with an external drive/NAS connected to it. But wait, there is more.
Additionally I would like to run a USB from this "solution" directly into my TV, thereby being able to display my media content (pictures and movies) that are stored externally directly on my tv. I know that D-Links Boxee Box is a great media player, but does it work to play music if the TV is turned off?
Please feel free to leave potential solutions to my conundrum and help me to build the "perfect" apple media streaming solution, where all data is stored and played from an external source.
Budget vise I am don't feel like spending more than $600 - $800, so keep the propositions within that budget.
Apple proucts used today: Iphone, MacBook Pro, and Airport Express.

Did you ever get this solved? I'm actually having the same problem. I've moved my library from old mac to new mac and everything is fine with the exception of the purchases. any time i try to migrate them into itunes, it crashes.

Our shop had recently acquired a new imagePROGRAF 8300s large format printer. We've had a pretty good exprience using it, but realize a few things.
1. When installing the discs provided to us, by Canon, we noticed that when printing to "Scrim Vinyl Banner" material or "Gloss Photographic Paper 190 gsm" there is no option to choose these types of media on our MACs, having used the same discs for our PCs, but these media options show on PCs.
2. When checking for color profiles, there doesn't seem to be a color profile for scrim vinyl banner material on neither PC or MAC, even though it is offered as a media type.
I feel like I've installed almost everything I knew possible through the Canon support downloads. Not sure what else to do. Any recommendations?

Media Streaming in Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials Quality not good !

   I have media in windows 8.1 workstation. Made a VM on it (win2012r2) + made a Essentials and Media pack and enabled the highest quality streaming ("best").
   When I test the test 34 mb video on lumia 1520 I find that quality is very degraded. I studied that if you set the highest quality the processor should be good otherwise there would be effect of buffering and lags. But in my case, only problem
my 720p video seems like 240p and no pauses or lags.
   Is there a way to improve that ? ( I have strong Wifi Router to handle the bandwidth ).
   Everything above started from the fact that I could not browse my media files by opening a pc share folder from lumia 1520. if I could open the share folder, I could instantly copy and play from there while I am roaming.
That leaves me to the only option to attach USB, copy data and then test each new video, which is very slow process wise.

You are serving media from an essentials VM on a win 8 box? Did I get that right? In any case. Media Streaming is not a real strong point for essentials. I would look at Serviio or Plex

Media Streaming Problem

My z10 is not working well. The media streaming between my Sante Fe and z10 doesn't appear to be working. I downloaded the latest OS and I believe that it's since then that i've had the problem. The phone is paired with the car fine. The phone works through the car speaker system..... but my map app and music won't play (the car says "no media"). I've been to the dealership because the car is under warranty and the service manager was able to connect his android fine (played music). I then went to my mobile service provider and the service rep came to my car and he couldn't get it working either. He suggested this site. Anyone know how to correct this? Thanks

Make sure you are using the most recent plug-in, which is version 10.0.12.036. You can determine your machine's version here. If you have an earlier version update the plug-in. You can do so here.
Whether or not you have the most recent version, go to your Applications>Utilities folder and open Disk Utility. Select "repair permissions". You'll probably see Flash items being repaired.
When complete, close DU, then restart Safari and try some Flash videos.

Ilife media browser shows no content....

I recently bought an emac g4 with no system discs. It is running OS 10.5.6 It was adverted as having ilife 08 though he deleted iweb. I bought ilife 08 and installed everything (save for imovie) but the media browser shows absolutely no content when I open it in iweb. PLEASE HELP!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try deleting the com.apple.iLifeMediaBrowser.plist file from your User/Library/Preferences folder, reboot and try again.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in the library rebuild pane, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.
