Menu MovieClip to follow mouse

Hi there,
I think my previous post lost anyone who read it, thus no
responses. I will try and explain it more clearly.
If u look at this site www.douglasfisher.co.uk and click on
"portfolio" and then one of the images he has a mouse following
menu thats works really well - how can I create that!!?
I can manage to make a similar menu that follows the mouse
well, the problem I have is when the user rolls off the MC from the
right or bottom - the MC keeps sticking as the mouse re-enters the
MC
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Mark

Thanks for getting back kglad.
As I said in my first post - I can get the movie clips
movements working just fine - its a problem with turning on and off
the rollover coding. Can anyone else shed light on to what I need
to do, been trying to work it out 4 days now

  • Ugh!  Please restore old Terminal.app focus-follows-mouse behavior!

    The 10.4 and prior Terminal.app's focus-follows-mouse feature allowed one to type into the terminal by mousing over it even if the Terminal wasn't the currently focussed application. It didn't focus Terminal when you did this, but did direct keyboard input to it.
    10.5's Terminal.app only allows focus follows mouse to work when it's the focussed application, which destroys about 80% of this feature's usability for me. I like to keep things like finder and browser windows overlapping most of a terminal window and then just slide the mouse over to the terminal to type there, and I can no longer do that in 10.5. Now I have to click on the Terminal window, bringing all my terminal windows forward and obscuring the windows I wanted on top. Very annoying.
    Is there any way to restore the old behaviour? If not, can we please have it back?
    Luckily, 10.4's Terminal.app still behaves properly in 10.5, so I'm using it, but I'd like to have some of the new features of 10.5's Terminal.app. Unfortunately, "broken" focus-follows-mouse is a deal-breaker for me.

    The command I know,
    defaults write com.apple.Terminal FocusFollowsMouse -string Yes
    seems to work about the same in Leopard as in Tiger for me. I don't remember ever being able to get focus-follows-mouse behaviour to work in a non-active application from an active non-focus-follows-mouse application. In other words one can focus follows mouse from one Terminal to another, but not from Finder to Terminal.
    The X11 equivalent (why the inconsistent key and value?) is
    defaults write com.apple.X11 wm_ffm -bool true
    I remember being able to focus-follows-mouse between Terminal and X11, but cannot in Leopard. However, I also cannot in Tiger 10.4.11 either, so maybe it is my memory that is faulty.
    What I don't seem to be able to do, but could do in Tiger, is
    defaults write com.apple.X11 swapaltmeta -int 1
    On Tiger, that would make the option key the meta key, so that e.g. alt-d would delete forward one word, etc. On Leopard, this seems to be a NOP which means that cmd is the only possible meta key, which I personally find rather confusing.

  • Xmonad and focus follows mouse issue

    I've been fiddling around with xmonad, and I notice that with focus follows mouse turned on, when I create a new window the window under the mouse gets selected instead of the window that I have just created. Pretty irritating, Anyone know how to solve that?
    Thanks for any help provided,
    Kruppe

    Yes, disabling the focus follows mouse behaviour makes it so the correct window is always chosen.
    I kind of like having focus follows mouse for when I need to copy and paste in applications that don't provide good methods for doing that purely with the keyboard (firefox and most terminals when not using screen). I would therefore like to have focus follows mouse.
    Sidenote: What is this updatePointer thing you use and what does it do?

  • Focus follows mouse

    Hi,
    Is there a way to keep a window open while another window is selected? What I would like to is manually type in a window while another window is visible. Other than clicking on alternate windows or resizing the windows I know of no way to do this.
    It seems to me that I had a utility that had focus follows mouse as one of the options. This stopped working a couple of releases ago and I have forgotten its name.
    Thanks.

    I can't appreciate the small space since I don't have a laptop, but you should be able to squeeze in two, either side by side or one on top of the other. Increase the display resolution, maybe? Other than that, I feel thy pain.

  • Focus follows mouse, etc

    So many years ago I was a mac user. And many years ago this forum looked different...
    But I have since switched to linux. Which I like because I can program it however I want.
    BUT now I have a mac again. My macbook with intel ran linux, but it died. So now I have a powerbook. Since PPC linux ***** I'm running 10.5 on it.
    I actually really like this system. It's pretty straight forward and easy to use, just a few things I want for it that I can't find.
    One big major thing that's really holding me back with the system is there's no focus follows mouse. Especially with the small screen it's something I really need to use the computer. And no auto-raise please. That completely ruins the point of focus follows mouse.
    I do have it working in terminal via playing with some plist files. And that's mostly where I use it. But I use it enough on the rest of the system that it's something I really want.
    Also, I'd really like to be able to hold down a modifier key, and click anywhere in a window to be able to move it. Something else I've become really accgstomed to in my GUI that I'd like to have on this little machine.
    Thanks for any help.

    Cool! Thanks for Window Wrangler! That's a pretty neat program. Not what I was looking for exactly, but it'll do just fine.
    I now see what you were trying to show me with the zoom. That's not what I'm looking for.
    What I'm looking for is focus follows mouse. What it does is as you put a mouse over a window, that window gets focus. But does not raise to the top.
    So say I have a web browser open, and my IM client open. I'll leave the client at the bottom of the screen and have the browser sized up just enough to see the text field and the first two lines of conversation of the chat.
    Now, on my linux system to reply all I have to do is put the curser over the IM window and I can type into it without having to click on it and bring it to the top.
    For that example, it isn't a huge deal. But when you have 5 or 6 windows open all organized with each on the right level, bringing one to the top will screw it up.
    I'm liable to have a few terminal windows, IM, email, IM, some programming ide, etc open at once. It's especially useful for web development. I can have the source file open and edit it, but not bring it over the browser window so I can have an idea of what I'm doing with the source.

  • Focus Follows Mouse In Aqua (No, I don't mean X11)

    Hello mass of Apple users!
    I have been switching back in forth between my Windows XP install and OS 10.4.11 and realized how much I miss focus follows mouse.
    Does any one know how to enable it? From what I've found it doesn't seem
    to be possible, except with the Terminal application, which can be enabled with by using defaults.

  • Disable window focus follows mouse without click

    I've noticed that I can scroll a window without clicking on it by moving the mouse cursor over that window.  For example, this Safari window has focus, and I'm typing in it, but if I move the cursor to another application (Terminal or another application), I can scroll that other window without having to click on it.  This gets me into trouble, because I can scroll around the other window then start typing, thinking that I'm in that other window because I'm actively doing something to it (scrolling), but the text goes to the window which really has the focus.  For example, Mail has focus, then I scroll around a Terminal looking for something, and I type the delete key forgetting that I'm in Mail.  This has an advantage in that one can scroll a window that is not on top, but there are drawbacks.
    Is there a way to require the click in a window in order to scroll in that window?
    Thanks,
    ==Leonard

  • Custom cursor that follows mouse - JITTERS

    you can easily attach the cursor between the specific layers you want using an empty movieclip and add your cursor movieclip to the emptyMC using the class name. Look at the screenshot and follow the code. it works
    and here is the code:
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    var whytehand:MovieClip=new cur();
    emptyMC.addChild(whytehand);
    emptyMC.mouseEnabled = false;
    emptyMC.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, fl_CustomMouseCursor_5);
    function fl_CustomMouseCursor_5(event:Event)
        emptyMC.x = stage.mouseX;
        emptyMC.y = stage.mouseY;
    Mouse.hide();
    Thatz it!

  • Tight Deadline: How to make image to follow mouse only side to side

    I am on a tight deadline and looking for the AS3 code of how to do what this company does on their site:
    http://www.imageworksstudio.com/ However, I don't know AS3. Literally my project requires I recreate the what is shown with the hand holding the sharpie and moving only back and forth restricted to a centered rectangular area at the bottom of the screen. I know how to import the image that follows the mouse to the stage, and to make it a movieclip. Let's say I have named the instance "Image_mc". Does anyone have the actionscript for how to do this? Do you attach it to the object or to a keyframe on a separate actions layer? I appreciate any help! Thanks!

    The replacement for those two lines of code in AS3 would be:
         box_mc.x = mouseX+(box_mc.x-mouseX)/2

  • Why I can not scroll menu drop down via mouse wheel to pick an option that is not visible?

    I am using FF 22.0 on Windows 8. When I start scrolling on drop down menu which show the vertical scroll bar via mouse wheel event on my touch pad when the cursor is on the menu area, Firefox just close the menu. I don't install any add on related to mouse/touch event.
    Toggling Use autoscrolling, Use smooth scrolling, or Use hardware acceleration has no effect.
    This error behavior is not happening in IE 10. I just want some clarification whether this is a bug or I just failed to find some configurations that fix it.

    Hello,
    '''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
    ''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
    ''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
    '''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
    ''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
    ''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

  • I am using FireFox 4. Where is the "Bookmark All Tabs-" feature. I would like to save my Tabs for a later session. The selection is not on the menu when I right-mouse click or go to the Bookmarks feature of the Menu.

    Missing "Bookmark All Tabs…" feature which was in previous versions of FireFox 3.x. If you right-mouse click on a neutral part of the Browser window, there would be choice of "Bookmark this page" or "Bookmark All Tabs…". I have been unable to find it either in the sub-menu or the BOOKMARK selection from the Menu Bar.

    What do you mean by Tabs sub-menu is it right-clicking on a tab ?
    I know that "ctrl-shift-D" still work.
    I know that a right-click on a tab gives the "Bookmark all Tabs" function.
    But I would like to see it back in the Bookmarks menu. (which is its logical place)
    Because today the choice only disappeared from the menu as it is still reachable through keyboard shortcut or through mouse right-click on a tab
    but tomorrow it will totally disappear and personally I don't want that as this is one of my favorite functionality.
    Tank you for your understanding !

  • Why Does Spry Horizontal Menu Bar Move On Mouse Over In IE 6?

    Greetings:
    www.marketscholar.com
    Can someone please take a look at the pages in this site and
    help me figure out why the menu moves around the page when
    moused-over in IE6? It works fine for me on IE7.
    I am new to DWCS3, Spry, etc. and don't have the first clue
    how to fix this.
    Thanks in advance for any help.
    Glenn

    It sounds like the path to the support files - SpryMenuBar.js and/or SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css - is not correct.

  • Black box (line) surrounds and follows mouse, 'mini' screen size, PIP?

    Hi,
    I just tried to install the new wireless mighty mouse and wireless apple keyboard.
    The mouse worked for a minute, but the install of the keyboard killed the BT mouse and now there's this ANNOYING black box around the mouse cursor.
    After playing with it I've noticed that the pointer cursor, which is surrounded by this box (4:3 ratio box, approx 2" wide by 1.5" tall on my 20" 1600x1200 monitor).
    The odd thing is the cursor's position within this box moves in correlation with where on my overall desktop the cursor is placed: If I put my cursor in the upper right corner of my whole screen, the mouse cursor is also in the upper right corner of the small 'box'; if I move it to the lower left of the screen, it is also in the lower left of the box, and so on for the other two corners, and if it's in the middle of the screen, it's in the middel of the little black box.
    So this seems very strange.
    Oh, and neither the BT keyboards or the new mighty mouse BT will show up in the BT menu as recognized devices, though they did just briefly in the beginning.
    So after buying a new USB hub to be able to plug in the Apple/Belkin USB hub along with the Apple store's D-Link USB Bluetooth adapter and a new BT keyboard and mouse - $200 for a wireless keyboard and mouse, all I have is ultra annoying new software problems and all the same wires as before, with an additional keyboard and mouse on my desk. UGH!!!
    Can anyone help with this 'black box around the keyboard issue, at least?
    Thank you soo, so much for any solutions!

    Oh and this weren't enough my barely used video ipod video 60 GB self-distructed this AM - melted inside somehow. I am in Apple ****.

    GREEN STAR FOR YOU!
    Of all the things - somehow, and I've never even been into this control panel, inside the Universal Access/Seeing/Options dialogue, the box was checked saying "Show preview rectangle when zoomed out".
    I unchecked this, and it went away. I had not selected this, ever. How it happened, I don't know except that I do have a Logitech NuLOOQ tooldial device which I had unplugged from USB while troubleshooting my BT wireless keyboard and mouse, and this device requires having the 'enable access for assistive devices' checked in the Universal Access control panel.
    Perhaps unplugging that device somehow lead to this problem, but otherwise I've never 'visited' the UA pref panel or checked anything in it.
    Odd, but THANK YOU for the suggestion!!!

  • Menu look n feel -- mouse rollover effect.

    I am trying to get my menu listen to mouse events without going through the hassal of creating all the mouse listener objects (I've done that before, think that was a dumb way of doing java UI). Anyway, my search on this forum returns little result.
    My questions is: how can you get the same menu bar effect in Nestcape or any File Editors without a few hundred lines of code in Java.
    fireMouseDragMouseEntered()? Example?
    Thanks!

    What functionality are you looking for? The menus in Java do respond to the mouse. If you move the mouse to the menu and click it will open and you can select an Item and it will create an ActionEvent. Are you trying to get the menu to automatically open when you move the mouse over it?
    If you want the menu to automatically open then you are going to have to do a lot of coding to do to override the default functionality of how the menus work.

  • Delay when opening Airport menu bar item following Security Update 2007-005

    When I first got this computer, there was one annoying quirk: when I clicked on the Airport menu bar item at the top right, there would be a roughly 1 second pause before the menu actually appeared. I recall hearing other people having the same experience at the time. Airport worked fine, but this delay was really annoying: since you're not sure if the system registered your click, so you click again, but then it registers the second click which causes the menu to disappear as soon as it appears, and you click again, and fall into this ridiculous cycle of fighting the sluggish menu item.
    Before long, this issue disappeared following some update (I can't remember which).
    After installing Security Update 2007-005, this exact same annoyance has reappeared. (I can confirm that the presence of the 802.11n Enabler update has no effect on the problem.)
    Is anyone else noticing this? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

    Hi
    Can you tell people how you cured the problem, so that those who search looking for answers to a similar problem know how to fix it?
    Steve
    I haven't got a problem myself, BTW)
