Messaging Server 7 - Disable outbound SMTP
Oracle Communications Messaging Server 7u4-27.01(7.0.4.27.0) 64bit (built Aug 30 2012)
libimta.so 7u4-27.01 64bit (built 08:47:11, Aug 30 2012)
Using /opt/sun/comms/messaging64/config/imta.cnf (compiled)
Recently moved mail to a hosted solution but have inbound mail coming through postini routed to both our hosted email system and into our Oracle Messaging Server for backup purposes. We'd like to keep the inbound messages coming into the Oracle Messaging Server but we'd like to disable the ability to send outbound from it. What is the easiest way to accomplish this?
Thanks as always!
If you do "imsimta qm" to get into the qm subcommand and the do "stop <channel>" for each channel, that will prevent job_controller running any jobs to process mail in the channel queues. Mail will come in, but nothing will be processed.
If you want mail to be delivered to local users, but nothing allowed to send output via SMTP, then only stop the tcp_* channels.
If no one is using the system, then there should be relatively little mail building up in the tcp_* channels, so this should not be a big concern, but just in case...
If the number of messages in all the channel queues builds up to 100,000 (by default) you may have trouble it not processing other incoming mail. For more info about that, see the MAX_CACHE_MESSAGES option which can be added to the job_controller.cnf file. For more info about that, see:

Messaging Server 3.x: Is there an option to enable and disable the ETRN function?
Is there an option in Messaging Server to enable and disable the ETRN function?
<P>
Yes. You can add the option for enabling and disabling the ETRN function by
modifying the code in the file <BR>
<P>
<I>server-root</I>
bin/mail/admin/html/SMTPChannelOptions.html
<P>
The original code to be modified will appear as follows:<BR>
<P>
<!-- ELEM txt="Allow SMTP command 'EXPN': " -->
<!-- M_RADIO n="SMTP-Accept/Config/AllowEXPN" v="yes" -->
Yes
<!-- M_RADIO n="SMTP-Accept/Config/AllowEXPN" v="no" -->
No
<P>
Modify the code to look like this:<BR>
<P>
<!-- ELEM txt="Allow SMTP command 'EXPN': " -->
<!-- M_RADIO n="SMTP-Accept/Config/AllowEXPN" v="yes" -->
Yes
<!-- M_RADIO n="SMTP-Accept/Config/AllowEXPN" v="no" -->
No
<!-- ELEM txt="Allow SMTP command 'ETRN': " -->
<!-- M_RADIO n="SMTP-Accept/Config/AllowETRN" v="yes" -->
Yes
<!-- M_RADIO n="SMTP-Accept/Config/AllowETRN" v="no" -->
No
<P>
Making these changes will create an extra option to enable and disable the ETRN
function on the SMTP Options page in the Administration Server.Yes, this is possible. In Cisco Webex Administration->Settings->Audio you can choose your audio (system-wide) options:
WebEx Audio:
Call In and Call Me service – Enables users to attend a teleconference by calling specified phone numbers or by receiving a Call Me call from the system.
Call In – Enables users to attend a teleconference by calling specified phone numbers.
OFF – Disables all calling features.

Messaging server outgoing smtp
Hi,
I have Messaging Server 05Q4 on intranet. I have an another MS for outgoing mail. It's smtp port is different from orig 25. How can I configure my mail store to route outgoing mails to my mta?
QuadIn your outgoing channel (typically tcp_local), add these keywords to the channel configuration line in imta.cnf:
daemon outbound.server.name port port_number
then run
imsimta cnbuild
imsimta restart job_controller -
How to configure Symantec Mail Security for SMTP & Messaging Server 6.3
Hi!
I want to install a Symantec Mail Security for SMTP 5.0.1(host1) with Messaging Server 6.3 (in production - host2), but when I try to access to POP protocol to send a message from Internet, the system display a message with a relay problem.
- Could you help me with this issue?,
- Do you know some documentation that speaks of this?. I can't find any documentation that explain how to configure and integrate SMS and Messaging Server. Thanks in advance.

internet -> symantec mail security system -> sun messaging server -> recipientA better approach is the following

How to disable one email account in iPlanet Messaging Server 4.5
Hi,
Any one can tell me how to disable a single user in iPlanet Messaging Server 4.5.
Thanks
AbidI wonder what product you're really talking about.
There was never a product called, "Netscape Messaging Server 4.5". There was 4.1 and 4.15, but the next product was 5.0.
These are all long discontinued, and nobody should be using them anymore.
Assuming it's 4.1, check your ldap record for "inetuserstatus" and set it to "disabled", or even "deleted" -
Messaging Server 3.x: Configuration of SMTP-accept port number
This article describes how to change the SMTP-accept port used by Netscape

You can implement a federated portal network (FPN) using the SAP NetWeaver platform to share content between portals.
A federated portal network allows organizations with distributed portal installations, both SAP and non-SAP, to provide a single portal access point per user to portal information, services and applications distributed on portals in the network.
WSRP-based application sharing (FPN Mode used for for integrating content between SAP and Non SAP portals) :-
--> Content administrators on a SAP NetWeaver consumer portal can integrate WSRP portlets (i.e. iViews) from remote non-SAP portals into SAP NetWeaver Portal.
--> SAP NetWeaver developers can create WSRP compliant iViews that can be consumed in non-SAP consumer portals.
You may kindly go through the below link, should be helpful:

Regards,
Anagha -
We are currently in the middle of an email migration, moving emails from our Mac server to Office 365. I want to be able to disable outbound emails from the Mail service. Users are sending emails to internal users using their old accounts, causing the messages to go to their accounts hosted on the Mac OSX 9.2 server rather than Office 365. This is a problem because I'm in the process of removing the old Mac mailboxes from their mail clients. Once the old mailbox is removed, they are no longer receiving emails that were sent internally from an old account hosted on the Mac server.
I've tried to disable outbound email using the following commands within the terminal:
sudo serveradmin settings mail:postfix:enable_smtp = no
sudo serveradmin settings mail:postfix:enable_smtp_out = no
I restarted the Mail service after making the changes. The enable_smtp_out setting reverts back to yes, the enable_smtp setting stays the same with a value of no. Users are still able to send emails out from their old accounts.
Thanks for the help!Shut off the mail server... That's the easiest.
Set up the mail server DNS to make it inaccessible, if you have a specific DNS name your clients are using?
Change the passwords of the mailboxes you've migrated, or disable access to mail on each? (Users > select the user > select the gear > select Access to Services...)
Block outbound TCP 25 at your network firewall? That'll block all outgoing traffic.
Via Server.app, set up the mail server to relay, and to a local host that isn't a mail server?
This and this have some other suggestions.
There are many ways to disable mail to choose from... -
Messaging Server 7.3 - Relaying Denied with tcp_intranet channel
Hi for everybody,
I have implemented the Messaging Server 7.3-11.1.
With Convergence sending and receiving mail works perfectly.
The problem arises when using another mail client (Thunderbird). I added the internal IP's in the Mappings table (INTERNAL_IP) and the logs can be seen that the entry of mail is sent to the tcp_intranet channel if not used authentication and tcp_auth when using the plain login.
Thus sending emails to the ims-ms queue (internal) work perfectly BUT when sending mail out the server replies with "Relaying Denied."
I guess it's a problem with the mappings table but have not found anything wrong.

If the system does not work perfectly our customers will not buy a support license.
So if anyone has a similar problem and found the solution or can provide some idea ... would be great

sapgw82 3382/tcpHi,
I had the same problem, but i didn't get any answer in that forum.
I deinstalled the SAP Software (regard the end of the threat
https://forums.sdn.sap.com/click.jspa?searchID=22036513&messageID=6625975) and then I installed the software again. Then the system ran and i didn't have any more problems with the message server.
I didn't installed the MS Loopback Adapter, because i am connected to a network.
Best regards,
Günther Klee -
Can not start Messaging server in Sun Java System Messaging Server 6 2005Q1
Hi all,
I installed Sun Java System Messaging Server 6 2005Q1 from Solaris 10 DVD on Solaris 10.
After the installation, I got directory server, admin server running but messaging server not running. I can not start Messaging server (start smtp, http, pop, imap). I found in directory which I installed messaging server but I could not see script "start-msg" and "stop-msg".
# pwd
/opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin
# ls
MoveUser ha_ip_config imquotacheck imsdirmig mkbackupdir
UpgradeMsg5toMsg6.pl hashdir imsbackup imsexport readership
configure imexpire imsconnutil imsimport reconstruct
control-params.txt iminitquota imscripter imsrestore relinker
deliver immonitor-access imsdaaci mboxutil useconfig
Any idea what might have gone wrong?
Thanks.Thanks.
I have a problem when I configure the Messaging Server (by running the /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/configure script):
Hostname mailtest for this machine is not a fully qualified domain name. Please
correct this before attempting to configure Messaging Server. Please make sure
that your DNS is working properly.
<Press ENTER to continue> {"<" goes back, "!" exits}
Can you help me fix this problem?
Thanks. -
Hello gurus,
System: Solution Manager
OS: Windows 2003 server R2 X32
DB: Microsoft SQL server 2005
I have an error when I tried to start my solution manager system, after having done a kernel upgrade (for the level 201)
I donu00B4t know why but the error (as you see in following image) itu00B4s in the java stack more particularly in disp+work.EXE Dispatcher with the status "Running, Message Server connection ok, Dialog Queue time: 0.00 sec, J2EE status info unavailable".
http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/7067/solmanj2eeerror.png
Can you help me whatu00B4s the problem here?
This next text itu00B4s a dev_disp log... maybe with this you get the error and the solution for that! :

First thank you to tried to help me!
--> So... I have a problem... in that checked that you asked, I donu00B4t have acess to all clients in system... Iu00B4m only able to login to client 000 and 100 and in that clients that two users SAPJSF and J2ee_admin donu00B4t exist!! But maybe in 001... I donu00B4t know!! Itu00B4s any other way to know that? I think through configtool in j2ee directory... but I donu00B4t get that, maybe because I donu00B4t have the JAVA part active!!
--> And other thing, you recommed me to "Check the profile parameters once, try change the JVM setting and check were you able to start the server"... What you want to say with JVM setting.. sorry Iu00B4m still newest in sap world... can you explain me better what you wanted to say..?! Thanks.
--> Other think and the last... I checked the sapstartsrv.log in D:\usr\sap\PSM\SCS00\work directory path and in that it said this:
trc file: "sapstartsrv.log", trc level: 0, release: "700"

Clean up queue in SUN Messaging Server 6.3
I have a couple of SUN Messaging servers with each about a 1'000'000 e-mail messages in their queues.
The reason is one of our customers being infected with some trojan, and a firewall misconfiguration which allowed direct access to the SUN messagings servers (where we host our customers mailboxes) , rather then through the Postfix boxes with rate limiting, anti-spam and anti-virus scanning which they are supposed to use as outgoing SMTP servers. In short we were used as a SPAM relay. Grrr.
As you can image the queue is now filled with undeliverable e-mail and undeliverable bounces.
The question is simply can I safely delete the offending messages from the queue directory, because the imsimta qclean does a lousy job.
imsimta qclean -content=<IP-OFFENDER> -delete* found only 75'000 messages from which 20% was removed. A simple grep <IP-OFFENDER> found still thousand of messages in the queue.
Arg, by default imsimta qclean only scans message ID's found in it's own database which is limited in size (and much smaller then our actual queue size)
imsimta qclean -content=<IP-OFFENDER> -directory_tree -delete* scans the actual queue directory and found indeed over a million mail messages in the queue. After scanning for a couple of hours it removed 150'000 messages. Leaving about 85% of the spam mails untouched!
Is it safe to simply use a shell script to find and remove the messages in the queue directory and delete them? Or will that break SUN messaging servers internal queue handler?
TIA

In short we were used as a SPAM relay. Grrr.As an aside, Messaging Server 6.3 also offers rate-limiting capability (metermaid) and various anti-virus/anti-spam capability. I wrote up a general document about this at:
http://msg.wikidoc.info/index.php/Main_Page
As you can image the queue is now filled with undeliverable e-mail and undeliverable bounces. You are not the only forum person to hit such an issue recently:
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5210669&messageID=9848719
The question is simply can I safely delete the offending messages from the queue directory, because the imsimta qclean does a lousy job. Yes. If the job_controller sees that the message has been deleted, it will simply remove the queued message from its cache and move on. Depending on your log level you may see an entry in the imta log file about this.. something along the lines of file <queue file> no longer exists.
imsimta qclean -content=<IP-OFFENDER> -delete* found only 75'000 messages from which 20% was removed. A simple grep <IP-OFFENDER> found still thousand of messages in the queue.
Arg, by default imsimta qclean only scans message ID's found in it's own database which is limited in size (and much smaller then our actual queue size)By default the job_controller will only keep a maximum of 100,000 messages in cache - a percentage of this is dedicated towards new emails and the rest is queued emails. This limit is to stop the job_controller consuming all your available RAM when you get hit by events such as this. The imsimta qclean uses this cache to search for messages -- which is vastly quicker then (re)scanning so many emails on disk.
The maximum is controlled by the MAX_MESSAGES job_controller.cnf parameter - discussed here:
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4428/6n6j425uh?l=en&a=view&q=max_messages
and here:
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4428/6n6j425v7?l=en&a=view#bgajv
imsimta qclean -content=<IP-OFFENDER> -directory_tree -delete* scans the actual queue directory and found indeed over a million mail messages in the queue. After scanning for a couple of hours it removed 150'000 messages. Leaving about 85% of the spam mails untouched! Well I can't explain this off-hand. I would need to try and reproduce the issue in-house with an example email that wasn't matched. What version of MS6.3 are you running (./imsimta version)?
btw. you can use the "-threads=<number from 1-8>" qclean command to speed up the scanning process by running multiple scanning threads.
Is it safe to simply use a shell script to find and remove the messages in the queue directory and delete them? Or will that break SUN messaging servers internal queue handler?Should be fine - once you have removed them though you may want to run:
./imsimta cache -sync
This will kick-off a re-sync of the job_controller cache so that the job_controller is better able to process the remaining emails (rather then hitting missing email after missing email).

Shane.
