Method to clear a GUI?

Hi,
Well I know I posted another topic with another problem a few hours ago, but I was wondering this for sometime now, is there a method to clear a whole GUI?
The program I'm making is a memory/cache simulation and needs some graphic elements that's why I'm doing it that way and with netbeans.
But anyways my question is, can I just add a button that will clear like the whole frame?
I know I can just put for example:
fieldA.setText("");
fieldB.setText("");But just wondering if there is a way like ClearFrame or something like that?
Thanks in advance

You could also get an array of all the components in a Container with the getComponents() method and then iterate through the array calling setText("") if the child component happens to be a JTextComponent, but this makes me nervous as you may in the future have some textcomponents that you don't want to clear, but this method won't allow you to keep components out of the iteration loop.Yeah I was looking into that, but I think I'll go with the list of fields rather than with components, I might end up screwing up something there =P

    Something like  Connection connection = Tools.setUpConnectionToDB(url,userName,pwd, this);

    [\code]

  • What is the best method to clear and reload my mac 10.5.8

    I need to clear out my mac which has parralels 5 and my parralels has been corrupted and the are lots of old system accred over time.
    I believe restarting from stratch will clear out all of the rubbish and speed up my system.
    I can not afford a new computer
    I have backed up my system using Carbon copy
    Please help

      1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
       2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
          *Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
       3. Click the Erase tab.
       4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
       5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
       6. Highlight the drive, select Partition Tab, then Format type... MacOS Extended Journalled, select the Security Options button, choose Zero Out Data, one pass, Erase... after completion do a new install.

  • HT5343 Why is killing mDNSResponder the recommended method of clearing your DNS cache in 10.7+?

    mDNSResponder is also in control of Bonjour advertisement and unicast DNS resolution. So killing mDNSResponder is a good way to clear your cache in the same way that throwing your computer out a window is a good way to turn it off.
    Why not continue to use "sudo dscacheutil -flushcache" like we always have? It still even works in 10.7+.

    As Linc indicated, the command recommended by Apple is:
    sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
    This restarts the process; it doesn't kill it. In 10.7 and 10.8 the mDNSResponder daemon caches DNS query results, so even if you flush the other cache, old results can still crop up. Restarting the mDNSResponder daemon clears that cache.
    Regards.

  • Have tried all the different methods to clear cache, but none of them work.

    I don't know what other information to supply. The above question sums the problem up fully. The cache simply will not clear/empty.

    Hi John,
    Thanks for your reply.
    Yes, I have followed the instructions under How to clear the cache, as well as those under Clear Recent History. Options - Advanced - Network - Offline Storage - Clear Now. In addition, my settings specify to clear cache upon closing Firefox. Nothing is working at this point (and hasn't for months, although it used to a long time ago).
    I don't know about this 'about:cache' thing. That just gets me to a general google search page.
    As far as your questions:
    I want to clear the cache to get rid of older links (and get fresh links) at the farmtowngifts.com site. So it's not a major problem, as I could simply quit using Firefox when I have exhausted all current links there, and use a different browser. I don't use Firefox for anything else anyway.

  • GUI in a method

    Hi,
    public void someMethod( )
    //call some GUI here
    //call some other methods
    basically if i want to make this method to execute the GUI first and wait until the GUI reach certain state (let's say exit the GUI itself) before calling some other methods, how can I do that ?

    bad idea. I've seen many small (often school assignements) where they need to show a dialog and wait for input, and then continue with the execution. Mvc is often overkill for those situations.

  • Using JTextArea - How do I clear it?

    Hi all.
    I have written a GUI program which transfers data from a method to a JTextArea/JScrollPane upon a button ActionEvent.
    When I press the "Next Record" button I want to be able to clear the previous details held in this JTextArea before I print the new ones in it. The Same for going backwards through an array. Does anybody know how to do this?
    Currently I am using the append method to add the returned String to my JTextArea. I have also tried using a replaceRange(String, int, int) method to clear the box before printing new details, but this isn't working properly as each Record in the array contains a different String length, so I can not enter the int values for each specific object.
    Below is the code for the application, and I've highlighted where I have used the methods to add a String to the JTextArea. I'm declaring the class for the action event within creating the actionListener, but can seperate it out if people need to see it more clearly.

    I don't know, the Swing experts are in the Swing forum. but setText() is defined in TextComponent, which a JTextArea is.

  • JFormattedTextField: Clearing text

    Hello All,
    I am sorry ahead of time if this question has already been answered somewhere in the forum, but I couldn't find it. I am simply trying to find a method to clear the tex field of all its text (ie set it back to its original state). When I try to use the method setText( String value ), and set value = "", I get some wierd results. Here's the code, pretty simple stuff:
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.text.*;
    public class GUITest
    public static void main( String args[] )
    JFrame frame = new TestFrame();
    frame.show();
    class TestFrame extends JFrame implements ActionListener
    private JFormattedTextField ssnText;
    private JFormattedTextField dateText;
    private JButton button;
    public TestFrame()
    setTitle( "GUI Test" );
    setSize( 300, 200 );
    addWindowListener( new WindowAdapter()
    public void WindowClosingEvent( WindowEvent e )
    System.exit( 0 );
    button = new JButton( "Clear" );
    button.addActionListener( this );
    try
    ssnText = new JFormattedTextField( new MaskFormatter( "###-##-####" ) );
    dateText = new JFormattedTextField( new MaskFormatter( "##/##/## ##:##" ) );
    } catch( Exception e ){}
    getContentPane().setLayout( new FlowLayout() );
    getContentPane().add( ssnText );
    getContentPane().add( dateText );
    getContentPane().add( button );
    public void actionPerformed( ActionEvent event )
    System.out.println( "SSN = \"" + ssnText.getText() + "\"" );
    System.out.println( "DATE = \"" + dateText.getText() + "\"" );
    ssnText.setText( "" );
    dateText.setText( "" );
    If anyone could give me a hand with this I would appreciate it.
    -gc

    Try this and see if it works:
    ssnText.setText( " - - " ) ); //respect the ###-##-#### format
    dateText.setText( " / / : : " ) );
    or
    ssnText.setValue( null );
    dateText.setValue( null );
    or
    try to set a null mask formater and then setText( null )
    Carien

  • Clear all rows in a Bean Data Control

    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.6
    In my use case I have a screen that interacts with a Bean Data Control I have followed the steps in the following URL to create a Bean Data Control
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18941_01/tutorials/jdtut_11r2_36/jdtut_11r2_36.html
    My screen successfully interacts with the Bean Data Control. This screen lives in a Bounded Task Flow (BTF). I can add rows using a Create Insert binding and can delete Rows as well. Once the user gets all rows into the Bean Data Control that they want inserted to a DB table, I can iterate through the Bean Data Control and post those records to the DB. It is possible for the users to add rows to the Bean Data Control and then link to a brand new screen which is in a different BTF which leaves rows in the Bean Data Control. Now the user goes back to the original screen. Upon returning, I want to empty (clear all rows) for the Bean Data Control so that they have a fresh start. Could you please provide guidance on what I might need to do to be able to clear a Bean Data Control when entering a BTF

    Hi,
    You can create a method to clear your Bean Data Control and call it with an invokeAction with property refresh="ifNeeded" and refreshCondition="#{pageFlowScope.isTimeToClearAll}", so pageFlowScope.isTimeToClearAll must be true only when you need to clear the BDC.

  • GUI hangs after it fail to pop up a modal dialog

    Hi everyone! I have a swing application that will pop up a log off confirm dialog (modal) when the user click on the "log off" button. It works fine for about 8 hours. Then when I click on the "log off" button, the dialog never pop up and the GUI is freezed, which means it does not react to user mouse click anymore, like a hidden modal dialog is in front. But actually there is no hidden dialog.
    At the same time, my windows XP freeze also. I cannot even open a folder. Then I kill the winrunner, and the XP is able to open a folder, but my GUI is still freeze. No exception behind and all threads are running. I can use some test script to control the GUI, but somehow it just never react to user click.
    Does anyone encounter the same problem and know the possible reason?
    Thanks!

    Hi motes_19:
    I have noteiced this as well in an application that I have created...however, my app doesn't freeze and the OS still runs (Win 2000). I suspect that your problem might be that you aren using the SwingUtilities.invokedLater() or SwingUtilities.invokeAndWait() methods to update your GUI. I am using them and still having some intermitten problems. Hope this helps you...if you have a solution for me, let me know.

  • Migrate from GUI to web based application

    what's the easy and the fast method to migrate java GUI application to a web based aplpication.
    thanks in advance for information

    There is no simple or easy or fast way if the application were not properly designed.
    Does it follow the Model-View-Controller pattern? If it does, your migration path is easier. If it is the typical app (the button listener method does it all), the migration path is not.
    I guess that you will have to redesign the app and reuse only very specific parts of your code, like formulae calculations.
    Code is cheap, analysis and testing are not.

  • Trying to pass and object variable to a method

    I have yet another question. I'm trying to display my output in succession using a next button. The button works and I get what I want using test results, however what I really want to do is pass it a variable instead of using a set number.
    I want to be able to pass the object variables myProduct, myOfficeSupplies, and maxNumber to method actionPerformed so they can be in-turn passed to the displayResults method which is called in the actionPerformed method. Since there is no direct call to actionPerformed because it is called within one of the built in methods, I can't tell it to receive and pass those variables. Is there a way to do it without having to pass them through the built-in methods?

    Of course it's highly likely that enough information was imparted for any sincere, reasonably intelligent student to actually figure it out, and learn the subject in the process.
    And if everything were spoonfed, how would one grade the performance of the students? Have them recite from memory
    public class HelloWorld left-brace
    indent public static void main left-parenthesis String left-bracket right-bracket args right-parenthesis left-brace
    And everywhere that Mary went
    The lamb was sure to go
