Please help me; I'm am really scared. My Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 is "not responding." I haven't closed the document yet but cannot click within the document, save, or copy my work after numerous paged. What can I do to recover my work?

and it worked for me:
1. Quit Word
2. In the Finder's menu bar, select Go > Go to folder and type or paste: ~/Library/Preferences/
3. Click on Go
4. Locate the preference file com.microsoft.Word.plist, then Option-drag it to the desktop to create a backup copy
5. Go to Applications/Utilities and open Terminal
6. Paste the following bold command at the $ prompt (it's a single line):
defaults write com.microsoft.Word 14\\Toolbars\\Show_HIToolbar -boolean TRUE
7. Press Return and then quit with Command Q
8. Start Word and test. If the fix works, trash the backup file in the Desktop file. Otherwise, restore it.
In the original source the author also mentions the change in Word 2008

I am trying to do a mail merge on my Macbook, using Microsoft Word for Mac 2011. I get as far as choosing the data source, however, a pop-up appears saying, "Word was unable to open data source." I cannot get past this point. Help!!

Depending on what year Microsoft you have. If you have 2011, go to File + Print or Command P. Where you see copies & pages, click on the drop down box. Select Layout. Click box next to 2 sided.

Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 - Forms with drop down fields providing fill-in options upon hovering

I have been sent a few form documents created in Microsoft Word which contain drop down fields that provide fill-in options upon hovering over those fields on the form. These form documents end in ".docx". I do not own Microsoft
Word for Mac, but am considering buying it or signing up for the Office 365 service for Mac so that I can fill in these fields using the drop down options. My question is:
Will Microsoft Word for Mac or the Office 365 for Mac service allow me to use the drop down fields that provide fill-in options upon hovering? Or is this feature not available when using either Microsoft Word for Mac or the Office 365 service
on a Mac?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Can I have separate pages (using Microsoft word for mac 2011) utilizing a new iMac and a second monitor?

Hardware - new iMac 21.7, Software Mirosoft word for Mac 2011.
I presently adjust the text to allow two pages on my iMac monitor.
If I add a second monitor can I have two different pages on it so I can
see four consecutive pages (e.g. pages 31 and 32 on the iMac and pages
33 and 34 on the second monitor)? I am sure I can move items like
pictures from one monitor to the other, but will the word processing
software indicated above work like I would like it to?

why would one of the pages be split?
Because you'd stretch the Word window across both displays and the screen bezels would be larger than the page split. The page spacer in Word is much smaller than any bezel I've seen, so the two bezels would cause it to break up a page somewhere.

Trackpad scrolling unresponsive in Microsoft Word for Mac 2011

Scrolling using the trackpad on my Mac is unresponsive in word. It works fine in PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. I am not sure when this occurred, but since I have noticed it has been driving me crazy. If anyone has a solution for me I would greatly appreciate

Microsoft Word for Mac will not open when I am logged into my main username.

If I log on as a guest I can open microsoft word. I spoke with Microsoft technical support and they said that there was some problem on my mac username. What do I need to do to figure out what is wrong with this username that I cant open my program. Or how do I transfer my word files from this username to a new username that I create?

10.8.2 - Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 V 14.3.1

Anyone experiencing issues with the program hanging; dimming its window, bringing up the rotating apple timer icon and making the cursor turn into a double ended arrow? The only thing I can do is to close the program with cmd/tab/cmd/q

Try deleting the Word .plist.
Application corruption problems: You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Hold down the option key while using the Finder "Go To Folder" command. Enter ~`/Library. Delete the .plist(s) for the application.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.

You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.2. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

InDesign CC slows down significantly upon placing a Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 file

I'm running the latest Mavericks OS on a brand new iMac 27" 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7 computer with 32 GB RAM. The slowdown occurs even if ID is the only app running.
The Word files consist mainly of text which are typically book maunscripts. It doesn't seem to matter whether the files are large or small. They all cause ID to slow down. We want to import the Word files so as to preserve mainly any italics.
Once the ID document contains a placed MS Word file, the slows are apparent mainly in:
Selecting a text box: 20-30 sec lag waiting for the beachball until it selects
Clicking to place the insertion mark: an additional 20-30 sec
Placing an image file: 20-30 sec for the import dialog to appear, 20-30 sec after the open button is clicked for the selected image to appear on the page
We've tried uninstalling ID CC via the script in the app folder.
We've also completely uninstalled MS Word follow MS's instructions, and reinstalling Word.
We've cleaned up our fonts with Extensis' Font Doctor.
We've deleted fonts we don't use.
One of the main reasons for buying the new iMac was to hopefully benefit from the enhanced processing power, additional RAM, and clean installs of the software.
What else can we try?
Page layout for books using ID CC with Word is the bulk of our work and we need to resolve this matter ASAP.

Thanks for the info, Bob. We've been Adobe pro customers since '87 and have been through a number of such hardware/software "leapfrogs." We basically love the CC products and the new Macs and Mavericks, so we're looking forward to the updates.

Issues with Microsoft Word for mac closing when I try to open old or newly downloaded documents

When I download a document from my professor, or try to open an older document, my word automatically quits. If it's already closed and I try to open a document, it will show the dot at the bottom of the icon that it's loading to open but it quickly disappears and quits itself. Is anyone else experiencing this issue or know what I can do to fix it? Thanks.

Create a "Do Not Send" List for Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011

Hello,
I've been having a problem creating a "do not send" list for Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011. Essentially, I am sending out bulk emails and when people want to unsubscribe I have no means to create a list so that no email is ever sent to them again. Because of the number of emails going out, it would simply take to long to search each excel sheet of emails I have and purge the unsubscribers.
Is there any way to create a list of emails that outlook will not send to, even if the names or in the excel sheet?
If it helps, I am using a Microsoft Word document as the basis for my form letter emails, which then pulls the email contacts (hundreds of them) from an excel sheet, which then sends them to my outbox in Outlook.

I'm using Excel, Word and Outlook for Mac 2011 in Yosemite without any issues. I can't speak for Powerpoint, as I've never opened it. I'm not a power user in Office, so I doubt I've really exercised it. But so far, Word editing and some simple Excel spreadsheets I use for inventory tracking have worked with no problem.

Flow text in Word for Mac 2011 works from page 1 to page 2, but not from page 2 to page 1. Does anyone know a fix for this, please?

To try it, create a fair size text box on page 2 and fill it right up with text.
Next, reduce the text box size so that the text box is over-full.
Then Flow this overflow into a new text box on page 1.
What appears also disappears, especially if you try to print.

With some advice, I was able to solve my problem by opening Word and then Force Quit Word. When I re-opened Word, it had returned to normal.
Note: I had already tried the expedient of restarting my computer without solving my Word problem. But Force Quit did the job.
