Migrate MacOSX Server 10.4 PPC to MacOSX Server 10.5 Intel

As soon as MacOSX Server 10.5 will be available i want to move from my Tiger PPC to a Leopard Intel server. Anybody knows if there will be possible such migration ?

Hi
There does not seem to be a specific Migration Manual available as yet but you could read this:
http://images.apple.com/server/macosx/docs/GettingStartedv10.5.pdf
As it does not contain some important information regarding upgrading and migrating: Page 40 and Page 144.

  • Request procedure for migrating PPC 10.4 Server setup to Intel 10.4 Server

Here's the background: I've got a G5 Xserve running 10.4.11 Server. It's and OD Master, Windows PDC and AFP, NFS & SMB file server for my whole department. We've purchased a new Intel Xserve (prior to Leopard - I'm not ready to go there yet), but I'm uncertain about the procedure for moving the setup from the G5 to the Intel box, keeping everything the same and working. I'm keeping the hostname the same, too.
What's really unclear (since there's no specific documentation on PPC -> Intel migration) is the order in which to do the OD Replica to Master promotion, the Windows BDC -> PDC promotion and the running of "changeip" to use the original host name on the new machine. I've botched the migration up three times so far, and I'd like to get it right the next time.
I know there can't be two Windows PDCs running concurrently, so I'm assuming that's the last step, but I'm really having trouble with knowing when to run changeip and whether or not the original machine should be running at the same time while changeip is run. Should the OD Replica be promoted before changeip?
If anyone's moved the functionality of a PPC 10.4 Server to an Intel 10.4 Server and moved the name of the system along with it, I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Migration from 10.5.8 in PPC to new server on 10.6.x

    Hi,
Currently running 10.5.8 server on a ppc Mac. Looking, at moving to 10.6.x which will thus require new hardware.
Problem is the existing server has a valid externally signed SSL cert. for Web and email and is the domain master for the OD.
If this was a desktop I'd boot the existing box up in target mode and then migrate then upgrade, but I get the feeling the cert. and the Open Directory suff is going to really object to that.
Anyone go any thoughts on how easy this is going to be? I'm guessing new cert. will be required, then moving the clients to new mail server......

To start programming, you can use Mac OS X 10.5.8 and an old Xcode version if you don't want to upgrade now. With this, you will get a first look into the OS X and iPhone OS environment.
However, respecting to iOS programming, I recommend you to upgrade to, at least, Mountain Lion if you can. OS X Mountain Lion needs a Late 2008 Aluminum MacBook or an Early 2009 MacBook, so if you haven't got one of them, you can't upgrade to Mountain Lion.
First, buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard# Make a backup of your files, insert the DVD and upgrade. After upgrading, open  > Software Update, and install 10.6.8.
Now, if you want, you can upgrade to Lion, if your computer isn't compatible with Mountain Lion. Lion will allow you to use the most recent Xcode version, so you can have a look at programming for the most recent iOS version, which is really useful because you can learn how to create apps for the new iOS 6 features, and if you are a registered developer, you can get access to iOS 7 beta and prepare your apps

  • How to migrate ARD 3 Tasks from PPC to Intel platform?

I have been trying to move my ARD install from an old PPC 10.4 Server to a new VMWare ESX hosted Intel 10.5 Server.
I've seen http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080403105655929 which tells exactly how to do this and I have done this before from a PPC Server 10.4 to a PPC 10.4 Server.
Now however when I try to do this none of my tasks appear in the new Intel 10.5 setup. I have seen notes that trying to move /Library/Preferences/com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist from a PPC install of ARD3 to an Intel install of ARD3 will not work and I will have to rebuild the tasks.
Could someone please verify if I have to rebuild all my tasks (a stupid thing to have to do mind you)or if there is a way to migrate my ARD3 install.
    Thanks,

The tasks are stored in ~/Library/Preferences/Remote Desktop. Make sure that folder was copied correctly.

  • Migration from Small business server 2011 standad to Windows 2012 Server Standard

    Hi everyone,
I have a network with SBS 2011 standard (that is the only server) and now we are moving (migrating) to windows 2012 server standard with an exchange 2013 (not yet installed).
The main thing is that when trying to install the migration tool on the SBS server, it will not install because it is not a 2008 R2 server.
is there a workaround for this problem?
I Hope this will help. Amir Ovadia

    Hi,
Would you please first let me know how did you perform the migration? Regarding the migration tool, is it the Windows Server Migration Tools in Windows Server 2012 R2? Since you need to install
the Windows Server Migration Tools on the source SBS 2011 server, I suggest we could perform the following steps to install it.
Create deployment folders for ource computers by running the
smigdeploy.exe tool (included with Windows Server Migration Tools) on your destination server.
Register Windows Server Migration Tools on source computers that are running Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, or Windows
    Server 2003 by using SmigDeploy.exe.
For details, please refer to the following article.

In addition, here are some similar threads about how to perform the migration from SBS to Windows Server 2012 Standard, maybe they are useful to us.

As there is no specific documentation on migrating from SBS to Windows server 2012, if you want the step by step procedure about the migration, we’d better involve

  • Wiki migration from 10.6.8 to 10.10 Server 4 no data loaded

I'm trying to migrate wiki from an old OSX Server 10.6.8 to a brand new installation of 10.10.1 with Server App ver 4.
I followed the article at http://krypted.com/mac-os-x/setup-os-x-yosemite-server-as-a-wiki-server/
    I used the migration method:
    1) copy the /Library/Collaboration folder to Yosemite Server ~/Desktop/Collaboration
    2) changed owner to _teamserver of the copied folder
    3) started wiki service
    4) created a new wiki
    5) configure accounts to access LDAP of the old server
    6) run sudo wikiadmin migrate -r ~/Desktop/Collaboration
No wiki were created. The log file shows that no users and groups found.

I have a bad 10.8 server, and what I did to rescue my WIKI
    1- Listed users on old wiki server " dscacheutil -q user | grep -A 3 -B 2 -e uid:\ 5'[0-9][0-9]'    ", I dont use open directory
2- Create an new 1.8.5 server
3- Create users on new server (keep an eye on order of creation ID is more important than username)
4- Turned on Wiki *Important starts up service for 1st time
5- Then followed these instuctions on:  http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT5585
    *Wiki worked
6 -Then Upgraded form 10-8-5 to Yosemithe server
    ALL WORKS
*Note1: Apple's KB note has 10.6 to 8 migration which I did not use, try that before
*Note2: Clone new server each important step with CC or DiskUtil, step 5 trashed compleatly the server at one time, never knew what happened

  • Migration from of database and app from SQL server 2005 to Oracle 10g

    Hello Every body,
Lately, I have been requested to migrate one inhouse developed hub application from SQL server 2005 to Oracle 10g. The objective is to move application and also the database to Oracel 10g.
    Here is the current platform:
    OS Win 2008 64 bit
    JDK 1.4.2
    JBoss 3.2.5
    EJB 2.1
My question is what kind of issues you guys see in above upgrade. As far I know, Schema and Database migration can be done by Oracle workbench. Oracle 10g supports JDK 1.4. Oracle 10g also supports EJB 2.1.
Anything, I need to take into consideration or any risks or problems. I would like to list down all the risks, and accordingly, I am thinking of start the upgrade.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Zeeshan Qureshi

In general the Java/J2EE application needs work in the following categories:
    1. Connection Settings: Use Oracle JDBC drivers, create new data sources, connection pools and what not. Disable AUTOCOMMIT for Oracle JDBC Connections.
    2. For EJBs, you should regenerate the entity beans because some object names/column names might have changed in oracle.
    3. Any custom SQL that is in use in the EJBs will have to be ported to Oracle just as you would do in stored procedures and other applications.
    4. For Java front-ends, if you are using callouts to stored procedures and expecting result sets then they will require some changes. You need to modify the stored procedure call signature to include the REF CURSOR variables and process them.
    5. Changes to any SQL Server specific database functions manipulating character/date data will be required.
    6. CLOB/BLOB/XML apis are different across databases so if you are using those then focus on them as well.
    7. Retreiving Auto/generated keys from database also may need changes from what I have seen.
    Hope this helps..
    Regards
    Prakash
NOTE: Not sure why but my posts from yesterday are not visible today. Even worse is that I can see them in one browser (FireFox) but not in Internet explorer. Crazy browser day I am having.

  • Migrating Netscape Directory Server 4.1 to a new server

    Hi,
In the current production environment, we are using Netscape Directory Server 4.1 as the authentication with Siebel CRM system. The server hardware is old and there is a need to refresh the server. As Netscape Directory Server is the only supported/ certified LDAP with embedded functionalities in Siebel Financial Services 6.0.2.300, we are planning to upgrade only the server hardware and migrate all the user information from old server and the new one, with Netscape Directory Server 4.1 remained.
I have studied the Netscape Directory Server 4.1 Deployment Guide and gone through the migration procedures, looks like the procedures are only applicable for migrating Netscape Directory Server to a newer version. There are no specific procedures mentioned for migrating Netscape Directory Server to the new server hardware with the same directory server version.
I am seeking for detailed procedures of migrating Netscape Directory Server 4.1 to a new server hardware with the same directory server. Anyone has done this migration before? I thank you in advance for your valuable feedback.
    Sincerely,
    Julie

Luckily, I have the technical documentation in hand, which contains all the configuration of the current server. So I need to use "db2ldif" to export the data. I am currently testing on the migration by following these steps:
    1. Install the new server.
    2. Stop the Netscape Directory Server and Netscape Administration Server services in old server.
    3. Copy the slapd-<server_name> folder from old server to a temp location of new server.
    4. Take the old server offline.
    5. Configure new server to have the exact configuration as the old server.
    6. Backup the existing slapd-<server_name> folder in new server, copy the slapd-<server_name> folder from the temp location to C:\Netscape\Server4 directory of new server.
    7. Start the Netscape Directory Server and Netscape Administration Server services in new server.
Will try out your suggested method. Thank you so much for your feedback.

    Julie

  • Migrate CAL's Terminal Licensing to Another TS Server on New Domain

    Hi
I have Terminal Server Licensing with Windows Server 2003 on OLD forest (tsserver.fortestold), on new forest I have Terminal Server Licensing with Windows Server 2003 Installed (tsserver.fortestnew).
I want to migrate my CAL licenses from the old
Terminal Server (tsserver.fortestold) to the new Terminal Server
on tsserver.fortestnew). My clients work  7x24
    365 days of year.
My question is how to migrate my licenses
to the new TS server without disconnecting
    my clients?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Initially what’s your new Server OS, where you have to transfer your CAL License?
Is the same as server 2003 or some other OS?
For the migration step, initially you need to install the License role on target server, activate the target license server, call the MS Clearing house with all the license related documents on hand, explain him the whole scenario of your’s ad they will help
to migrate the server. Also need to deactivate the source license server.
If you have different version of CAL\Licneses then need to upgrade\purchase accordingly.
    More information.

  • Migration from Crystal Enterprise 10 to SAP Crystal Server 2011

    Hi all,
We are currently using Crystal Enterprise 10 to schedule and view our reports and the designer is Crystal Reports 10 .
we are planning to migrate to SAP Crystal Server 2011 with Crystal Reports 2011 as the designer. Can we do this migration directly or do we need to do the migration to an intermediate version before going to SAP Crystal Server 2011.
    Regards,
    Sreekanth S S

    1. So in this case, I need to migrate from Crystal Enterprise 10 to Crystal Reports Server XI R2/Crystal Reports Server 2008 or more using import wizard Then I will need to migrate from Crystal Reports Server XI R2/Crystal Reports Server 2008 to SAP Crystal Server 2011 using Upgrade Manager tool. Is my inference correct?
That is correct. For XI R2, it would be XI R2 SP2 minimum. And you need to have a live installation of XI R2 SP2 as SAP does not have it in archieve download area.
2.What is the potential risk if we try to migrate from Crystal Enterprise 10 to SAP Crystal Server 2011 using upgrade manager tool?
I am not sure if that will work with success, If the reports migrated from CE10 do not work in CRS2011, it would be unsupported. You can however try it anyways.
3.Can we open the reports developed using Crystal Reports 10 designer in Crystal Reports 2011 designer? .This is for another requirement of us where we have to just migrate the reports alone .
Yes you can do that. Try opening and running them in CR2011, they should work but some of them can also result in some errors here and their, this is more specific to report design and what kind of grouping\ filtering\formulas you use.

  • ... migrate your iAS license to the equivalent WebLogic Server ...

    hi
    see http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/jdeveloper11gfaq.html#L0
If I am licensed for Oracle Internet Application Server (Standard edition, Enterprise Edition) can I run a ADF 11g application for free?
No. The existing Oracle Internet Application Server(iAS) is not capable of running an ADF 11g application. You will need to deploy such applications on a WebLogic 10gR3 based Application Server. In order to be able to do this you will need to migrate your iAS license to the equivalent WebLogic Server or Suite license,. Please consult your sales contact or visit the Oracle Store.
    questions
(q1) Has anyone been able to migrate his license to WebLogic Server?
(q2) Which future (WLS based) Oracle Application Server release will allow to deploy JDeveloper 11g ADF applications without the need to buy a new license? Will there be such a release?
    many thanks
    Jan Vervecken

As far as I know the final details of the license migration from OAS 10.1.2 to FMW11g are still being finalized.
FMW 11g will have more components in it than OAS 10.1.2 had - and also more than what WLS had - so there will be a need to figure out what you had license for and what you are buying license for - and there will probably be various editions/packaging to match various needs.
I think this discussion is better left of this forum and in the hands of the Oracle sales team and your managers who can figure out the right price, discount etc...
Lets keep this forum focused on the technical aspects of any such migration.

  • Server side tracking on non-OSX server

Does anyone aware of attempts of reproducing server side tracking on non-MacOSX server platform?
Our primary storage is based on opensolaris + zfs, giving us a lot of advantages. But synchronization of mobile users always takes some serious amount of time.
Obviously re-exporting home directories through OSX server doesn't change something, because server side tracking requires filesystem to be local on server.
I can guess that protocol should be relatively simple and doable on other unixes (as soon you get some way to track filesystem changes).

while part of it may be technically feasible, i've never seen or heard anything about implementing server side tracking on a non-os x server. at the very least, the server runs sshd on an alternate port for client communication. beyond that, i don't know what magic is involved.
in practice, i haven't seen it work reliably on os x server, though i haven't done any testing with this enabled on 10.6 server yet. it may not be worth pursuing.

  • Moving from Exchange 2007 to 2013 (leaving the DNS Server for it's own dedicated server)

Hello! I am quite new to Exchange and Server management in general. I will do my best to explain my situation.
I am looking to move my Exchange server off of our DNS server. When we installed them on the same server, we did not have the funds to buy 2 separate servers. I am told that it is best to separate the two. I have followed the Microsoft instructions for installing
the prerequisites for Exchange 2013 on a 2012 R2 server, and i am at the point where it wants me to configure AD LDS. As I have active directory running on the current server, I was a little hesitant to just install it without understanding what i am doing.
After the AD LDS is configured, I believe i can move forward with installing Exchange 2013 (all 3 roles will be hosted on the new server), export the mailboxes from 2007 server and import them into the new Exchange 2013 server. After 2013 is up and stable,
I plan on removing 2007 from the old server (DNS server).
What are my next steps after importing the mailboxes? Am i missing important details that I need to change or migrate?
My biggest fear is that nothing works after the installation and moving the mailboxes over. For that case, it makes sense to keep 2007 installed as a fallback for when my installation fails and all i have lost is just my time :)
    Current Server:
Windows Server 2008 Standard (64 bit)
    1. Roles: Active Directory, DNS, IIS
    2. Software: Exchange 2007
    New Server:
    Windows 2012 R2 Server
    1. Roles: ???
    1. Software to install: Exchange 2013
Thank you for any help you can provide!

These are good resources, but i am still caught up with the active directory issue.  Am I able to keep the old Domain/DNS/Active directory on it's current server and move Exchange 2007 off onto a new server (with Exchange 2013)?
In the first example, he is moving everything (domain controller, exchange, users, etc) onto a different server and decommissioning it.I've been told that it would be better practice to keep the domain and exchange on 2 different servers. Is this true?
I go to run commands like:
    .\setup /PrepareAD /OrganizationName: orgname /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
on the new exchange server, as a prerequisite and it doesnt recognize the command - even after following the steps before. Is this because the new server is not a domain controller? does it have to be? What are the best practices for setting up a server(s)
    with exchange + domain controller?
    Thanks for responding.

  • Managed server not communicating back to admin server - JMX issue?

    Hi,
I have a domain that consisted of:
    1) 2 managed servers deploying an EAR for online use on server A
    2) 1 managed server being used as a Queue Server for the JMS Module/JMS Server on server A
    3) 2 managed servers deploying an EAR for online use on server B
    4) 1 admin server to control the domain on server C
    Servers A, B & C are running win2k3 and I'm using WLS 9.2.3
We've been shifting our infrastructure and I was tasked with relocating the Queue server to a new win2k8 box, server D. To achieve this 3 options occurred to me (having configured the new machine in my domain):
    1) Change the IP address and machine for the Queue Server and then start it up on the new machine
    2) Create a new Queue server on the new machine, and re-point the targets of the JMS Server and JMS Module to this new Queue server instead of the old one.
    3) Create a new Queue server, new JMS Module and subdeployment and JMS Server, and all the JMS Queues (there are c.25)
I discounted option 3 due to the sheer amount of changes involved and the scope for error. I tested approaches 1 & 2 using a test domain on the new box first and all went well - the JMS queues could be populated and consumed following the migration to the new machine. For Production I went with approach 1 which was simplest.
However, despite the Queue server clearly working on the new machine (we've tested populating and consuming documents at both ends), for some reason it does not report back to the queue server - information such as it's health (e.g. OK, although it does report its state (e.g. RUNNING). Furthermore, the JMS queues no longer report their content - they all simply say "There are no items to display".
Looking in the Queue_Server_1.out file, I can see the following error occurred:

Now the IP address of the admin server itself is OK (I've XXX out part of the number as it's my client's machines) but it looks like it's trying to connect using the 'admin' protocol, when it should connect using t3s shouldn't it? Any ideas?

Hi there, thanks for your post. I can confirm that the IP and port can be reached as I've had the networks guys look at this. The issue seems to me to be related to the protocol used to establish the connection.

  • How to upgrade from Leopard Server 10.5.8 to Lion Server?

In anticipation of Lion, I finally retired my G5 2.7GHZ Mac Desktop running Mac OS X Server 10.5.8 and moved the start up drive to an 2 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo MacMini.
    It is running fine.
I would like to now upgrade to Lion Server, but without spending $499 for Snow Leopard Server. I do have a Evaluation Copy of Snow Lleopard Server 10.6. Can I use this as an intermediary transition to Lion?
Any other suggestions short of spending the $499?

There is no way at this time to go from 10.5 to 10.7 with out extra steps.
If this is a Mac Mini and Not a Mac Mini Server you can get the 29.99 Snow Lep client disk and install client on the mac mini then install lion and server on it making it a server and then bring your data back
If this is a Mac Mini Server you can install it from a Snow Lepored Client Via target disk mode. then you can erase the drive and install fallowing this apple support document.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4766
Now Migration will only mode your data and not update the OS, so migrating is not the solution for you. if you where to buy a new machine with Lion installed then migrating your data would he a help, but to update the OS you need to have 10.6.7 or higher
or a secound machine and be able to do the install over Target Disk mode.
