Migrate Oracle Files to CMSDK?

Bare with me as I am trying to grasp how everything fits into place here. My issue is that I have a user base that needs to start storing files in a repository, like yesterday. So I am planning to implement the Oracle Files that comes with Collab Suite 9.0.4. HOWEVER, there is a need/desire for customization. I plan to use the CMSDK but need time to develop. Can I eventually convert my users' data/files from Oracle Files to a CMSDK schema? Am I correct in assuming that the CMSDK is a superset of the Oracle Files database? I cannot imagine that it is as simple as exporting from one and importing to the other. Finally, is it possible to run both interfaces (out of the box and custom) against the same data? Or to keep the data in synch across schemas?
I apologize for so many questions in one post, I have been scouring the documentation for answers to no avail.

Oracle Files is a specific implementation of CMSDK. As such the CMSDK repository ought to be readable by any CMSDK application.
However, as a custom application, Oracle Files behaviors might not be entirely replicatable inside of CMSDK. But, the data ought to be easily transferable from Oracle Files to CMSDK, in fact you ought to be able to install CMSDK and simply tell it to use the CMSDK repository created by Oracle Files. I have not done this but I don't see why it shouldn't work.
I have been warned (by Oracle) that going the other way around, moving CMSDK to Oracle Files can be problematic as Oracle Files does not recognize ObjectClass extensions, e.g. all the CMSDK examples that encourage you to create Image, Report, and other classes as extensions of the Document class will not work under Oracle Files. The advised strategy is to avoid ObjectClass extensions and to implement any custom behaviors or information using Categories.

I got that off metalink, and so this has got to be true. Anyone here from Oracle know for sure?

I'm not "from Oracle" but I've talked to Oracle about this issue. What I've heard is as follows:
Oracle Files is a component of the Collaboration Suite built using the Oracle CM SDK. The problem is that it is not extendable using the CM SDK. In order to ensure that a CMSDK application that you develop may someday integrate with an Oracle Files repository I have been told by Oracle that: You should not create any new CLASSOBJECTS as children of FOLDERS or DOCUMENTS. This elimnates about half the functionality discussed in the CMSDK Developers Guide. The suggested alternative is to create application linked Categories rather than subclassing the FOLDER or DOCUMENT classobjects.
It looks to me like customization of Oracle Files is limited to adding your logo and changing the color scheme. When you deliver Files there isn't any ifs/cmsdk/ tree so this effectively prevents you from creating any custom_classes necessary to create agents or servers. I suspect that you could fiddle these in; but that would fall in to the category of unsupported extensions. Even if you could fit agents or servers in I believe that they would have to be passive, that is they should not mutate events or attempt to create objects.
So if Oracle Files does what you need, great. It is an inexpensive extension to AS 10g and I don't think that you could develop your own interface for less than $45/user. However, I think that it basically works for intranet collaboration, which is just one of many things that you can accomplish with CMSDK.
If you want to integrate CMSDK with Workflow or Interconnect; if you want to extend document types and provide custom processing, dynamic folder linking, and other fun stuff; or if you want to embed CMSDK into vertical application then Oracle Files won't work for you and you have to roll-your-own with CMSDK.

Error while migrating repository files from Brio to Interactive reporting

Hi,
I am doing migration of Brio from 8.3.1 to Hyperion Interactive Reporting version 11.1.2.1. I am referring http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/hs_migration.pdf
I am facing error when I am migrating resitory files from brio 8 to Interactive reporting version11 environment.
Error [[ENOENT]] Accessing path: /c2cnas/Oracle/Hyperion_Home/EPMSystem11R1/products/biplus/opencat
when I checked at my Linux server I do not see "opencat" directory under /c2cnas/Oracle/Hyperion_Home/EPMSystem11R1/products/biplus path. I don't know why this directory or folder was missed after Hyperion Interactive Reporting Installation. Do we need to create this folder manually for newer versions( 11.x)?
Has anyone aware of this error? will it impact my migration? I am thinking that migration utility is looking to place .oce files in this directory but it could not find. is my understanding correct?
Please help me on this.

Usually in 11.1.2.1 the folder will be "EPMSystem11R1\products\biplus\data\Open Catalog Extensions"
I haven't seen a opencat folder.
Can you check the migration logs.Also check permission for the user on the folders.

How to upgrade from OCS 904 to 10g but not upgrading Oracle Files

Hi All,
We have installed OCS 904 from where we only are using:
- Portal
- Oracle Files
Our idea is to upgrade this installation to OCS 10g but keeping the same version of Oracle Files (we don't want to migrate to content services for the moment).
Is this possible? or if we want to keep Oracle Files we need to do a fresh install of OCS 10g in another location?

Migrating Oracle Internet Directory Data

We are trying to migrate oracle internet directory data from one of our test environments to the production environments. Both the environments are running on windows 2000 Operating Systems.
We are followiing the procedures mentioned in the Oracle Application Server 10g Administrator's Guide for the migration. But in one of the sections there is a command that uses unix shell script files - catalog.sh
This doesnt work in the windows environment, and only after completing this task I can proceed with the migration. Can anyone let us know if there is any windows equivalent file for this catalog.sh. How to proceed from here..

Is this really a Portal thread?
Anyway... Maybe you have two options here (for example):-
1. Either use the CYGWIN.
2. Use the LDAPSEARC & LDAPADD to bring everything from Source to Target. In the middle change/substitue the necessary strings, ie, like for example domain.

Issue while migrating from File to DB based repository for SAP adapter

I recently migrated from file based repository to DB based repository.
SAP Adapter: DB repository for JCA configuration
After that I created the new targets and the jca log file showed me correct entry saying that it read from DB repository.

But when I restarted the weblogic server I observed that it is again reading from the file repository.

I checked the web.xml under MW_HOME/Oracle_SOA1/soa/thirdparty/ApplicationAdapters/iwafjca.war/WEB-INF folder. The iway.jndi is set to below :

I checked the outbound connection settings from Admin console under below path
Home >Summary of Deployments >iwafjca > configuration
I can see that the properties IWayRepoURL, IWayRepoUser and IWayRepoPassword are set to blank here. Where exactly are these property values picked from ? Or do I need to manually edit it here in admin console itself?

his post describes the procedure required to migrate a database from Windows to Linux using the RMAN Convert Database command.
Both Windows and Linux platforms have the same endian format, which makes possible to transfer the whole database, making the migration process very straightforward and simple.
To migrate between platforms that have a different endian format, Cross Platform Transportable Tablespaces (XTTS) needs to be used instead.
List of Steps Needed to Complete the Migration
The migration process is simple, but as it has several steps it is convenient to be familiar with them before running it.
1. Check platform compatibility between source and target OS
2. Start the database in read only mode
3. Check database readiness for transport from Windows to Linux using DBMS_TDB.CHECK_DB
4. Check if there are any external objects
5. Execute the Rman Convert database command
6. Copy converted datafiles, generated Transport Script and Parameter File to Linux
7. Edit the init.ora for the new database
8. Edit the Transport Script and Parameter File changing the windows paths to Linux Paths
9. Execute the Transport Script
10.Change the Database ID
11.Check database integrity

I had to go to my data template and move my groups around.
Copy Data Template into something like Wordpad, so you can see the hierarchy and cut and paste your groups. Watch your indentions.

In trying to open a Lightroom catalog on an external hard drive I keep on getting the message "lightroom cannot use the catalog named " " because it is not writable and cannot be opened. I have fixed all the "permissions" and yet it will still not open. How do I fix this?

I figured it out. You have to select the actual logo of the Lightroom catalog and then click on "get info" and allow what ever your new user name to "read and write". That worked!

I just left the apple store after they checked the MAC and wiped it clean. I have plugged the external drive in and see the device; however, they was no prompt to migrate the files, as I was told. How do I get the files to migrate. I can see yesterdays back-up. I thought it was to automatically prompt for the migration process?

Complexities of Migrating Oracle 10g from Solaris to HP-UX Itanium

Can anyone share their experiences with regards to migrating Oracle 10g from Solaris on a Sun platform to HP-UX 11i v3 (Itanium) on HP Integrity servers. We are trying to consider all the risks associated with such a move. How much time delay did you experience in resolving unexpected issues along the way? How complex is the process? If you had to do it all over again, would you?
In addtion, we will also be migrating Oracle eBusiness Suite 11i (11.5.10.2).

Here is more information:
- the database size is currently about 500GB
- our ASP allows us to be down as much as we want however the company's own needs can only allow a downtime window of two days (over the weekend)
- i presume further that RMAN might be an option to use to backup the database and instance to some transportable media
- it would take about four days to get that media from the ASP to our facility so durign that time the instance at the ASP would have to be used
- after we get the backup media and load everything into our in-house site, our last step would be to find a way to migrate all changes over the WAN. I am told that unless the platforms are the same on both ends, mirroring will be extremely difficult or impossible. If we have a platform that is different from the ASP platform, then the migration of all changes will require conversion and other mechanisms. I am told that HP-UX has so much complexities that this will be a daunting task to accomplish.
Do you have any opinions and recommnedations?
