We do not have comparison docs bertween Oracle on UNIX and Oracle on Windows as the the main code base is identifical. There are some artchitectural changes on windows where Oracle background processes have been implemented as threads and are installed as Windows services. At the moment we recommend running the Oracle Migration Workbench on Microsoft Windows and connecting to the Oracle 9i server by Oracle networking (sql*net). We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause. The released Oracle Migration Workbench for linux is an old version and the current version on Microsoft Windows is much improved. I am not clear what you mean by SQL, the workbench supports migration from products by Sybase, Microsoft, Informix, IBM and MySQL, see the support and plugin download web pages for database product names and version numbers, of the databases to be migrated from.

Getting parsing SP error while migrating SQL Sever 7 to Oracle 8.1.7

Hello,
I migrate SQL Sever 7 database to Oracle 8.1.7 using latest
Migration Workbench + sqlsever7 plugin.
I captured the source database and created Oracle model but some
of straight forward enough stored procuderes didn't pass. I try
manually correct them but still receive the following error
message:' java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException:string index
out of range:0 ViewLog Window' I check log - not much help
I check all names - non of the exceeds 30 char.
Although, I'm not sure of following code:
@sqlstr='select....'
@sqlstr=@sqlstr+'select...'
exec @sqlstr
Could it be a cause?

Problems while migrating from mySql DB to oracle DB

Hi All,
I'm using sql developer tool to migrate from MySql DB to oracle DB. I followed the below steps.
1) I've created oracle and mysql connections successfully.
2) I've captured Mysql data and I'm able to see the captured model in ' Captured Models ' window. After that right clicked on the captured model and selected ' Set Data Mapping'. Selected ' apply ' button without changing anything. After that I've right clicked on the captured model and selected ' Convert to Oracle Model ' . It has shown the converting process. After some time it has shown conversion completed successfully.
But converted model is not visible in ' Converted Models ' window.
Can anyone kindly assist on how to migrate from MySql Db to Oracle DB?

Hi,
We did mysql to oracle migration some time back and played with workbench tool and many other softwares available.
However our experience was not so good with these tools, each tool had its own limitation and was not able to migrate 100% data. Even the speed of migration was too slow which would have violated our production SLAs.
So after spending a month with these tools we finally decided to create our own scripts for data migration. We used tools like TOAD and SQL Yok to create the DDL for the tables and other DB objects.
For the data migration we downloaded the mysql data in flat files and used sql loader to upload the same data in oracle. Even if this was a time consuming activity but this resulted in 100% data migration with no record getting failed and the time taken for this activity was around 6 Hrs in comparison to time of 24-28 Hrs that the workbench tool took.

Install all the required packages.
You are hitting a bug. Bug 7680459: LIBXP PACKAGE IS MISSING FROM LIST OF PACKAGES REQUIRED.
As per documentation Bug 7680459, the package libXp-1.0.0-8 is also required to invoke OUI successfully.
So, make sure that you have installed these packages including the dependency packages required.

So the column's name is "ABB04", not exceed 30 characters.

Weird tables are added in the db after migrating an Access db to Oracle 0816

The migration workbench has been giving me headache recently. I
was trying to migrate a small Access 97 db to Oracle081600. It
used to work fine. But one day, it began to give me problems.
Each time after I migrated an Access97 db to Oracle, the
database in Oracle included lots of tables which I don't know
where they come from (such as ACC_COLUMN,
ACC_DATABASE,...MTG_COL_DEP_CHG...OM_ALL_INDEXES_INFO...SS7_SYSCO
LUMNS...etc). And I just could not find the tables that I wanted
in the migrated oracle db. Is there anyone who knows what's
wrong? I really need someone's help on this problem.
The oracle I installed is Oracle0816, running on Windows2000.

We have two more customers that currently are in the process of upgrading from MS SQL but as far as I know no one has actually performed an upgrade this far.
If you want to upgrade to OIM 9.1 you will have to wait until the upgrade scripts are available (estimated arrival H2 2008 according to the latest info I have).

Migrating from SQL Server to Oracle 8i

I am trying to migrate from SQL Server to Oracle 9i.
I am using the Migration Workbench.
Everything goes fine during Capturing phase, but while
creating Oracle model the Workbench just hangs at
"Mapping Tablespaces" for over three hours.
(not exactly hangs in the sense that it responds to mouse
events and I can abort the ongoing activity ...)
What should I do ? Should I let it go on and see what
happens.
I follow each and every step as mentioned in the
documentation ... but obviously I am doing something
wrong. Any pointers ???
However ... if I try to migrate to Personal Oracle 8 ...
the migration goes fine from start to end ... just that
the SQL Server triggers aren't successfully migrated.

You may want to start by downloading the Oracle Migration Workbench. That generally does a reasonable job in moving the tables, stored procedures, etc. from SQL Server to Oracle. If your VB code is database agnostic, it should continue to work without any more intervention. Realistically, however, you'll rpobably have to at least tweak a few things that don't work the same way in the old ODBC/ OLE DB provider and the new one.
The hard part of migrations like this is that you may need to revisit some of your architectural decisions if you want Oracle to perform well. There are plenty of things that one does in SQL Server (i.e. frequent commits) to improve performance that have the opposite affect in Oracle. Identifying and fixing these sorts of things tends to be the largest part of a migration like this. Unfortunately, I don't know of a resource that talks addresses all the possible gotchas here.

Migrating SQL Server DB to Oracle DB - probably EASY answer

I completed the tutorial on migrating SQL Server DB to Oracle. When I try on my own database, it all migrated well except anything containing a datetime. When I run the oracle_ctl.bat file and view any of the log files, I see Record 1: Rejected - Error on table DBO_RIVERSIDEDB_NCWCD_TEST.TS6HOUR_TAIN, column DATE_TIME.
ORA-01843: not a valid month. Do I need to change the first line of the file set NLS_DATE_FORMAT=Mon dd YYYY HH:mi:ssAM ? In the .dat file created from the unload_script.bat, the data starts out 1275<EOFD>2007-05-11 00:00:00.000<EOFD>74.900000000000006<EOFD><EOFD><EORD>1275<EOFD>. So my questions is about the date_format - is that the same for all SQL Server databases or do I need to enter something based on MY database? I am definitely a newbie so this is probably a super easy question. Thanks so much for any help!

There are two different date format in SQL Server.
1] DateTime : 2010-08-03 12:48:15.170
2] SmallDateTime: 2010-08-03 12:48:00
Both the date will be inserted in Oracle Date column.
Is there any automated way to generate datamove script to tackle these differences? I've around 200 tables to be migrated and there may be many such cases.
The issue with Oracle SQL Developer setting i.e. Tools >Preferences> (Under) Migration> Data Move Option, there are two masks we can specify, one for Date Mask and other for Timestamp. How can I set both of these for converting data into Date, not in timestamp.

Migration from MySQL 5 to Oracle 10g

I'm currently trying to migrate a MySQL database to Oracle and have encountered a few issues, it appears to work fine for most of the tables, with a few errors occurring in the logs for other tables, but they look to be related to connection issues that I am encountering. Both the MySQL and Oracle Database are installed locally on my machine. Below is the exception. Any ideas why the migration would be working perfectly and then encountering the below problems?

Hi,
Unfortunately now I am receiving a slightly different error, relating to the connection being closed due to a seemingly bad response from the MySQL server, where it expected a larger value than received. I have updated the Third Party JDBC drivers to the latest available.
The connection appears to drop and stop the data migration process, and it appears that this has stopped sooner than my previous attempt. Any help/advice would be greatly welcomed. I'll continue to investigate this on the web, but would assume this is the best possible resource for resolving these kind of problems.

Migration Sybase 12.5 to Oracle 10G R2

Hi,
I'm planing to migrate some Sybase ASE 12.5 databases to Oracle 10g Release 2.
The source database reside on Windows 2000 and Target database ( oracle 10g) will be running on Linux. Any idea if Oracle Migration workbench will support such scenerio where Source and Target will be on different OS platform if yes then how to approch and plan such migration, as we have to migrate mostly tables no views or procedures. Is using BCP ( on sybase) and then SQL loader ( on oracle 10g) will be an better approch ,if we use sql loader then how to migrate/create table structure, indexes and constraints etc from source to target .
If anybody have idea please let me know or mail me , any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Amit,
The Oracle Migration Workbench (OMWB) will migrate your tables, views, indexes for you to Oracle. Download it to you windows PC, it can can conneced to Sybase and generate the translated tables to your Oracle database on linux.
If your databases only has a small amount of data (lets say <1GB), you could perform an online data move, where the OMWB 0 "pumps" the data from your Sybase database to Oracle using JDBC. Larger amounts of data are better moved using BCP and SQL Loader, but the OMWB can generate these scripts for you.
