Migrating Access Query Variables

Hello All,
I noticed that Access queries with user input variables cause the migration wizard process to abort in the build phase. When you look at the generated sql file in SQL Developer, you see a comment about " -- intentional generation error" which aborts the migration.
I also noticed that if you run these commands one at a time that a pop-up appears and asks you for a variable name and the query is added to Oracle. Is there any way to make this happen during the quick migration process so that the whole process doesn't abort? Or some other way to ignore these errors? I ended up just deleting them from the Access application, but it seems to me that the migrator should handle this since they are so common.
TIA,
Mark

An SQL version IIF was introduced in SQL Server 2012 and newer:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh213574.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
Here is a sample for your question:
Create table test ( [SpellHRGCode] varchar(50))
Insert into test values('DZ11123'),('DZ23555'),('DZ999')
Select IIf([SpellHRGCode] Like 'DZ11%','Lobar, Atypical or Viral Pneumonia'
,IIf([SpellHRGCode] Like 'DZ23%','Bronchopneumonia','Trauma')) as [HRG Group]
from test
drop table test
By the way, you can always use the CASE expression to rewrite your query for any version of SQL Server.

  • Accessing OSB variables in  XQuery Transformation

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement to access OSB variable in XQuery context.
    Anybody has any idea on how to get this?
    Thanks,

    the xquery doesn't know anything on runtime about the variables like $body, $header, etc
    so like Prabu said, you will need to pass all that data to your xquery as parameter to be able to query them

    Hi
    here i need help to find out right approach,my use case are below
    1.User will login thorough SSO .
    2.Based on used id i need to display user data in table form.
    3.User-id will need to display in right corner of page template ( JSF page with this page template)
    4.user can update/create new table data by pressing update/createinsert button.
    5.Once user press the create new request button,one empty row will popup which have user-id filled automatically (used-id who logged in) and will read only ,so that once user commit the data,DB can update/insert the data with that user-id
    so far i have done point 1,2,4 and 5 like
    1.i created AM preparesession and store the use id.
    2.i have putted whereclause in AM for particular VO and run execute query and able to see particular user data,who logged in.
    4.created servicemethod for createinsert in AM and exposed it ,and set used-is table attribute which i got in AM preparession .Now i am able to see new row with user-id in one column in read only form when
    Is this the right approach ? and now i am not able to do step 3 so how to display same user-id in pagetemplate as this value is available in AM only.

  • Help with Converting an Access query

    Hello:
    First time poster and would appreciate some help in converting this Access query into T-SQL so I can use in a Stored Procedure. I don't need help in resolving the syntax for the variables as parameter in the second query, but stuck in writing the first query
    in T-SQL . I assume I need some type of nested query with a left join to another query in T-SQL.
    How do I convert this from Access into MS-SQL
    SELECT TBL_MONTH.L_Month, TBL_MONTH.L_MonthName
    FROM TBL_MONTH LEFT JOIN qry_MonthCheck ON TBL_MONTH.L_Month = qry_MonthCheck.L_Month
    WHERE (((qry_MonthCheck.L_Month) Is Null));
    qryMonthCheck in Access is defined as
    SELECT TBL_MONTH.L_Month, TBL_SIGNOFF.SO_YEAR, TBL_SIGNOFF.SO_USER, TBL_SIGNOFF.SO_LOCATION
    FROM TBL_MONTH RIGHT JOIN TBL_SIGNOFF ON TBL_MONTH.L_Month = TBL_SIGNOFF.SO_MONTH
    WHERE (((TBL_SIGNOFF.SO_YEAR)=[forms]![frm_signoff]![cboyear]) AND ((TBL_SIGNOFF.SO_LOCATION)=[Tempvars]![tmpVarUserLOC]));

    It is very much up to personal taste. For tables I use no prefix at all. Or suffix. I prefer plural: categories, products, etc. For junction tables, I drop the plural in the first entity, for instance productcategories. As for the case, many people prefer
    initial uppercase, while I go for lowercase only. But initial uppercase has its points, particularly in documentation. I am a staunch advocate of using case-sensitive collation for metadata. I don't see any point in mixing productcategories, Productcategories,
    ProductCategories etc. That can only cause confusion.
    As for either entities, I don't use views much, and I don't have any prefix for these either. In fact, several views I've been involved used to be tables once upon a time.
    If you want to add a marker to the object name, I recommend using a suffix. It is much easier to find objects in the version control system and other browser, when not everything is cluttered on the same letter. For instance, I typically add _sp at the end
    of stored procedure names.

  • Access Query to Oracle Query conversion

    I am converting an Access database to Oracle 8.1.6.
    There are lot of reports in Access. HOw can I convert the Access
    query to Oracle equivalent query??? Is there any tool available
    for conversion???

    FYI,
    Microsoft Access is using ANSI SQL. And Oracle has introduced ANSI SQL from Oracle 9i so, it is also in 10g.
    Oracle 10g does not stop backward compatibilty so, It is depends on person. And I am not forcing you to migrate query from ACCESS to Oracle. I have simply answer the question which you have asked. Whether you want to perform efficiently or not it's your choice.
    But one thing is sure, ORACLE (9i or 10g) provides ANSI SQL and MS ACCESS is using ANSI sql so, this task is feasible. No doubt about it.

  • Accessing ICS variable using EL

    Can we access ics variable using EL. Hope this query is already posted. but I tried the solution. it is not working
    I have set an  ics variable in a CSElement and I tried to access that in the next line using EL. but I am not getting the values
    e.g

    fetching value using cs : {cs.testvar}
    fetching value using ics : {ics.testvar}
    No results for both the line. Is it not possible to access ics object using EL?

    Hello

    e.g

  • Access Session variable inside Transaction

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to access session variables inside Transaction.
    Create session variable.
    Update session variable value
    acccess Session variable.
    (user session)
    Regards,
    Sachin

    Hi Sachin,
    Here is the snapshot:
    1. Take session variable in a local JS variable in HTML page.
    2. Create a transaction with a input type variable in Transaction Properties.
    3. Create a Xacute query and link the above transaction.
    4. Creata a iCommand applet on HTML page and link the query template:
    <PARAM NAME="QueryTemplate" VALUE=".../QueryName">
    Call the function in the below way in HTML:
    Applet.getQueryObject().setParam(1,vaiable)
    So, the session variable will go to TRX (BLT) and perform the operations as per your need..
    You can pass it to other TRX by the same way.
    To fetch the value: Create output type variable in TRX 2. Create Xacute query.
    Get the value with : Applet.getValue(1,1)
    Hope it is useful.
    Best Regards,
    Kedar

  • Accessing CFDocumentItem Variables

    Hi all,
    I am at a loss how to access a variable that's set inside of a cfdocumentitem tag. The reason I'm doing this is that a client of mine is wanting to print invoices in their browser but they are using double sided paper so I need to access the current page number and if it's not an odd numbered page, I need to force another page break.
    So my code looks somerthing like this:
    <cfdocument format="pdf">
    <cfloop query="getOrders">
    Invoice stuff here...
    <cfdocumentitem type="pagebreak"></cfdocumentitem><!--- Add one page break by default after every order --->
    <cfdocumentitem type="footer" evalatprint="true">
         <cfif CFDocument.CurrentPageNumber MOD 2 EQ 0>
              <cfset AddPageBreak = 0><!--- This is the back side of a page so we don't need to add another page break --->
         <cfelse>
              <cfset AddPageBreak = 1><!--- This is the front side of the page so we do need to add another page break --->
         </cfif>
    </cfdocumentitem>
    <cfif AddPageBreak>
         <cfdocumentitem type="pagebreak"></cfdocumentitem><!--- Add an additional page break for orders that do not end on an even page --->
    </cfif>
    </cfloop>
    </cfdocument>
    Of course this doesn't work because I've learned that cfdocument is implemented as a custom tag. The error I'm getting is "Variable ADDPAGEBREAK is undefined".
    Does anyone have any ideas how to accomplish this?

    You are quite right, it should be bound by default.
    It works for me ;-)
    Question though - why are you setting up environment parameters to connect to a DB, rather than configuring a JNDI datasource?

  • Text lines in the BW query variables screen

    Hi gurus.
    The bw users ask me to display some text lines in the BW query variables prompt.
    The text lines are saved in a custom table.
    The only idea that I've got is to use customer exit text variables and fill them in CMOD when I_step = 1.
    I don't like this solution (I should have more the 10 text lines and so I have to mantain more than 10 Text variables) but I can't find any other solution.
    Any new idea or solution?
    Is there in Bex enviroment a functionality (that I don't know) for doing somenthing like this ?
    Thanks fo any help.
    S.

    Hi,
    to resolve it you should create all the prompts in the BW query. You are using a query with 2 parameters and then a dynamic list of values. the dynamic list of values can only work after you entered the other values.

  • How can I access global variables in a loaded Applescript?

    How can I access global variables in a loaded script, in Xcode, ApplescriptObjC? Basically, I have a global variable defined in my parent script using "property", and I need to modify objects connected to those variables inside of a loaded script.
    Example:
    Parent script:
    script AppDelegate
    property myTextField : missing value
    //linked to a text field object
    tell myScript to myAwesomeHandler_()
    end script
    Loaded script:
    on myAwesomeHandler_()
    myTextField's setStringValue_("The new Xcode is so glitchy ugh")
    //changes value of linked text field of parent script
    end myAwesomeHandler_
    The problem is, the variable is undefined in the Loaded script, and I need it to have the same value as the parent script, and I don't want to pass the variable through the Handler. Any ideas?

    I think want you are looking to do will need to be done in two steps. Because myTextField needs to be a property for the ObjectiveC part of the code you cannot turn it into a global.
    However if you make a temporary variable global assign the string to it in the handler then set myTextField off of it.
    global myTextFieldGlobal
    script AppDelegate
    property myTextField : missing value
    //linked to a text field object
    tell myScript to myAwesomeHandler_()
    myTextField's setStringValue_(myTextFieldGlobal)
    end script
    on myAwesomeHandler_()
    set myTextFieldGlobal to "The new Xcode is so glitchy ugh"
    //changes value of linked text field of parent script
    end myAwesomeHandler_
    I know you stated you did not want the handler to return a value but I have to ask why? Global's, imo, are not a good idea and really should be used as a last resort.
    One other possibility is to pass a reference to the property to the handler. Not sure if that works in AS of if that would satisfy our requirement of not passing the variable through the handler
    <edit>
    Another though have you tried to define the property outside the script?  That is
    property myTextField : missing value
    script AppDelegate
    Not sure if that will work.
    You might also want to have a look at Scope of Properties and Variables Declared in a Script Object

  • Access a variable in the Adobe form for Java Scripting

    Hi,
    I am unable to know how to access the variable in a Adobe form.
    The variable is field of an internal table. My adobe form structure is as follows
    MAIN_PAGE->FORMSET->FirstFORM->EXT.
    in the EXT subform the variable(cust)  exists.
    The cust is in turn an internal table.

    Hello Sreelatha,
    I think we cannot hide a page.  as in, page is the main container.  In a container, we can hide any field using some scripting.  Even though if we hide the field, it is present on page but not visible.
    but if some logic is there, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Rakesh.

  • Access custom variable value in web.xml context-param?

    My requirement or need is to access a variable value either in a class in my Model project or a backing bean in my View project. For example, one variable I need to access is an application server I am integrating with - 'testserver' or 'productionserver' - I want to be able to configure this within an external file so that I do not have to re-compile my application to change the variable.
    I was thinking about placing this variable in the web.xml <context-param> section as:
    <context-param>
    <param-name>servername</param-name>
    <param-value>testserver</param-value>
    </context-param>
    I need to access this value within a class (not a servlet) on an Application Module service method, though if needed, I could access it from a backing bean and pass it to the service method (less desirable.) Is this a good approach and how do access this variable from within a Java class including any imports I need to do (code example)?
    Thanks and Happy New Year!
    Hopefully most everyone is out spending time with friends and family versus stuck trying to complete a project like me...

    I found an example from SRDemo that provides what I was looking for:
    String serverhostaddress =
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getInitParameter("param-name-var-in-webxml");

My requirement is to develop a crystal report( which comes with a native oracle db driver) which should look same as the access report. But am unable to use the access query becoz of its format or something. So anyone please throw some light on this. Any help would be kindly appreciated.

  • Why can't I access the variables in my threads?

    hello.
    another question about threads..
    ==========================
    I have an inner class that implements Runnable (i.e. a thread) and has a variable in it. I want to be able to access that variable from outside the thread class so that I can set or retrieve the variable.
    here is the code for the program
    class myClass
         public static void main(String[] args)
              myClass c = new myClass();
         myClass()
              Thread t = new Thread(new myThread());
              t.number = 1;
              t.start();
         class myThread implements Runnable
              int number = 0;
              public void run()
         }//end myThread
    }//end myClassthe line
    t.number = 1;
    where I try to set the number variable to 1 gives me an error (in the MyClass constructor)
    This is my error
    AccessThreadVars.java:11: cannot find symbol
    symbol  : variable number
    location: class java.lang.Thread
              t.number = 1;
                        ^
    1 errorif I put a method in myThread, and then try to call that method from myClass (via t.MethodName()) it gives me that same error telling me it can't find it..
    what am I doing wrong? how can I get access my thread's variables and methods??

    1. Type names should start with an uppercase letter
    2. t is defined as a Thread, not as a myThread
    (which, may I insist, should be "MyThread"), so the
    compiler has no means of detecting that "number" is
    an accessible field of the object... which wouldn't be accessible anyway, cause you're trying to get attributes from your Runnable after wrapping it inside a Thread.
    Why don't you do something like :
    MyThread t = new MyThread();
    t.number = 1;
    new Thread(myThread).start();?
    I bet you don't use Thread's own methods anyway...
