Migrating from MSSQL 2000 to Oracle8i

During the capturing I get the error message " Failed to insert row into table: SS2K_SYSCOLUMNS; ORA-01400". Is there something I can do to avoid this? One more question. After the oracle model has been created, there is no "User defined functions" catalog. I don't know if this is related to my first problem or if function migration is not included in the MSSQL2000 beta plugin?

Hi,
Try the following URL for a potential solution
http://otn.oracle.com/support/tech/migration/workbench/htdocs/bulletins/sqlserver_01.htm
We have seen this issue before when a user is trying to migrate a SQL Server database that was migrated from one SQL Server to another SQL Server. This means that the user information in the database is not bound to the master database anymore.
The SQL Server sp_changedbowner procedure should provide a workaround.

  • Moving a system from MSSQL 2000 to MSSQL 2000 IA64

    Hi
    We have a R/3 Enterprise 47x110 system running on MSSQL 2000/windows 32 bit. We want to change our hardware to 64 bit. According to platform availability matrix, we have to use mssql 2000 ia64/win2003 ia64 with this release. We want to know which procedure has to be used for moving a system from mssql 2000 32 bit to mssql 2000 ia64?

    Hello
    Migrating an SAP system from Windows SQL IA32 to Windows SQL IA64 is a fairly simple procedure.
    I have performed this migration myself several times.
    You need to ensure that your source system (IA32) has the required support pack levels for SQL 2005
    I recommend you review 905634, 151603 and 683447.
    I would strongly recommend that you move directly to SQL 2005 rather than SQL 2000.  SQL 2005 is fully supported and offers a lot of performance and administration features (such as snapshots).
    SQL Data files are compatible between SQL platforms. By this I mean if you do an sp_detach on an SQL IA32 system you can sp_attach them to an SQL IA64 system without any special action.  The files are also compatible between SQL versions, you can detach from SQL 2000 and attach to SQL 2005.  This is described in section III of 799058.
    In your case I would:
    1.  Make sure you support packs are up to date on source system
    2.  Make sure you are using the correct collation 600027
    3.  Install 4.7 on your IA64 host from the install CDs
    4.  Update your IA64 system kernel to the correct level
    5.  Detach the "empty" DB from the IA64 host
    6.  Shutdown your IA32 system, stop SQL, start SQL and then stop SQL
    7.  Copy the datafiles and log files to the IA64 system
    8.  Attach them to your IA64 SQL 2005 system
    9.  Run the SQL Tools utility
    10. Start up your 4.7 instance
    11. Check SM21, ST04, SICK and DB02
    12. Reschedule your backups and DBCC
    This procedure should work and should be quite simple to implement.  You can leave you IA32 system untouched, so if you experience any problems you have a fall back position (ie. just restart your IA32 system - nothing has changed on you IA32 system or its database).
    I recommend you obtain the official SAP SQL 2005 CD, it includes SP1 and has a useful script call SQL4SAP.VBS that sets a lot of options for you automatically.
    Check 879941 - you may need to adjust the torn page setting and auto_update_statistics_async settings or you will get red alerts in your CCMS tree.
    For other people out there who use Java systems (EP, XI etc) you <b>will almost certainly</b> have to update your JDBC drivers. See note 639702.
    Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions.
    Goodluck

  • Migrating from Office 2000 to office 2003

    I know that the personality migration is great for upgrading OS versions. Does it work the same for application upgrades as well. We are going to be upgrading workstations from Windows 2000 and Office 2000 to Windows XP and Office 2003. Will the personality migration migrate the office settings from office 2000 to Office 2003?
    THanks in advance.

    Can you provide a reproducible test case so that we can confirm the behavior here and log a bug? More detail can be found in the log/Error.log in case there is a java exception that is being thrown.

  • Cannot migrate from Windows 2000 to Windows XP

    I was able to run the desktopdna.exe and CREATE a profile (or whatever)
    as per the docs.
    The docs have you write the file as the "workstation" name.
    But when I try to apply that to the new XP PC, it won't work because the
    workstation names aren't the same.
    So is there not a way to migrate from Win2K to XP unless you keep the
    workstation names the same? (our workstation names are never the same
    when re-imaging, etc. due to issues with AD as we don't give our
    helpdesk the ability to go into AD and delete the existing computer
    account).
    Or do I not follow the docs and just have it "write" the file with just
    a userid or some other method (in which case they'd probably end up
    whacking the wrong machine if they have multiple machines).

  • Migration from SQL 2000 to Oracle 10g

    Hi every one,
    This is the first i am posting to this forum.
    I have a problem in migration of Sql Server database to Oracle 10g.
    We use Microsoft Navision Axapta 3.0 SP4 as front end.
    and Sql Server 2000.
    All table and indexes are created in sql server by Navison only.
    My Database size is 300 GB and now we face thousands of Problem with SQL server so we decided to make a intelligent move to oracle 10g.
    As we have 1200+ users.
    The problem i am facing when i tranfer all the table to my Oracle Database it gives a error out of buffer.
    some time it gives me error about the index as few of our developer have create two indexex on one field.
    So oracle identifies that there are two indexes on one field.
    So pls help how can i solve this problem.
    I have 1234 tables.

    Can you post the exact Oracle error you are getting? The ORA-xxxxx part is the most important for us to identify what particular problem(s) you're having.
    Is your front-end certified to use an Oracle database? Particularly if the front end is creating database objects, it needs to know how to work with whatever database it is connecting to.

  • Permissions error when migrating from Access 2000

    Hi
    I have an Access 2000 database that is pretty small - only has 8 tables, total DB size is < 24MB. I've gone through all the steps of creating the Oracle model etc and all went without a hitch. However, when I come to migrate table data I get the following error:
    Unable to migrate data from source table "tbl Case" to destination table CDSS.tbl_Case : CDSS.tbl_Case; [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] You do not have the necessary permissions to use the "C:\Customers\Vancouver\CDSS\Database\CDSS.mdb" object. Have your system administrator or the person who created this object establish the appropriate permissions for you.
    There is no security on the Access database so I'm a little unsure as to what is causing this error to occur; does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks very much

    There is an option in the users guide for switching off any security in Access. This should solve the problem with permissions

  • Please Help!!!!! Problem Migrating from sql 2000 stored procedure to PL/SQL

    I have used a tool to convert my sql 2000 stored procedure to Oracle 10g PL/SQL, here is an example
    SQL 2000 Stored Procedure
    CREATE PROCEDURE [GetEmployees]
    AS
    Select * from EMPMST ORDER BY emp_name
    GO
    After Transformation i got 2 files, one was a procedure and other a package
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE GLOBALPKG
    AS
         TYPE RCT1 IS REF CURSOR;
         TRANCOUNT INTEGER := 0;
         IDENTITY INTEGER;
    END;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE GetEmployees
         RCT1 IN OUT      GLOBALPKG.RCT1
    AS
    BEGIN
         OPEN RCT1 FOR
         SELECT *
         FROM EMPMST
         ORDER BY emp_name;
    END;
    When i execute the procedure GetEmployees i got this error :
    SQL> execute GetEmployees;
    BEGIN GetEmployees; END;
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
    PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'GETEMPLOYEES'
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
    PL/SQL: Statement ignored
    Please Help me in debugging this error. Thanks in advance.

    As the poster above mentioned you cannot call "GetEmployees" without a parameter.
    Note that the procedure declaration has the following line
    RCT1 IN OUT GLOBALPKG.RCT1
    This means that whenever you want to call the procedure you must pass it a variable of type GLOBALPKG.RCT1
    However unless this is merely a homework or learning exercise (i.e. you are not porting the code of a production application) i would strongly recommend that you do not attempt to simply convert the code to PL/SQL.
    The reasoning behind this is that Oracle's architecture will be completely different to the source of the original code and if you attempt to simply port the code (especially using an automatic tool) you will almost certainly hit problems.
    For example the SQL Server's 2000 code may (should be) be written based on SQL Server's locking strategy. Oracle's locking strategy is completly different if you try to use the same techniques as you do in SQL Server the performance will suffer.
    Porting a code or a database schema from one platform to another involves a lot of analysis in order to take advantage of the features of the destination platform.
    As I said this may not be important to you depending on why you are attempting a port.
    Good Luck.

  • Unsupported Data Type (migration from Access 2000)

    Hi,
    I'm trying to convert an MS Access 2000 database, which contains a table with 2 'Binary' data type columns.
    The OMWB does not seem to know this Data Type, and the GUI does not allow me to add it. Is there any other way to add this Data Type ??
    I should somehow get it to convert to Oracle RAW.
    Generating the Oracle Model with the 'Binary' type in the xml file generates errors.
    thanx in advance,

  • Migrating from mssql to oracle or postgres to oracle

    I have a database driven web application written in J2EE. Currently this application works with Microsoft SQL 7.0 and Postgres 7.3. It uses various datatypes and also has many stored procedures. I will be migrating actual data, table definations and stored procedures.
    Can you please tell me whether to go for MS SQL to oracle migration or postgresql to oracle?

    Hi Margaret,
    The Oracle Migration Workbench MS SQL Server 7 plugin will migrate your MS SQL Server 7 schema, stored programs and data to Oracle. You can freely download the Migration Workbench from the Migration Technology Center on OTN at http://otn.oracle.com/tech/migration/content.html.
    Currently the Migration Workbench does not support migrations to postgres.
    I hope this helps,
    Tom.

    please offer your suggestions.Using imp/exp is not so hard so you can try it by yourself. Export all schemas to a dump file from 8i and export it to 10g
    For syntax you can refer to documentation:
