Migrating iTunes library from a Windows PC to a Mac

Hi.
If I previously have iTunes on a Windows PC and want to migrate the enitre library to a Mac, how do I do it? I've got all the files transfered over the traditional way - via an external hard drive - but I can't bring the playlists over. I'd hate to have to start creating playlists again.
Cheers...

  • Transferring entire iTunes library from a Windows PC to a Mac.

Can someone please leave a simple, step by step guide to help me move my iTunes library from a Windows PC to a Mac? I want an identical library on my Mac with play counts, playlists, device backups and all of that stuff.  I don't care if it takes a long time to do as long as it is simple! Thanks.

I can't find anything helpful! I want a way to copy the entire library with device backups, playlists and all that stuff! I want it to be like a mirror of the library on my PC!

  • Moving my iTunes library from a Windows PC to a Mac

I did do a search on this topic on both the Apple website and in the forums but couldn't find anything helpful. How do I get my iTunes library from my Windows machine to my new iMac? Thanks!

The simplest way to move your iTunes library from a PC to a Mac is:
    • Locate the iTunes folder on your PC (My Documents > Music > iTunes)
    • Copy the entire folder to your Mac (use a USB flash drive, or an external hard drive)
    • Put the iTunes folder in the corresponding place on your Mac (Home > Music > iTunes)
    • Launch iTunes on your Mac
With a bit of luck, your Mac should understand all of the files and their arrangement, and iTunes should display your library.

  • How do I move my iTunes library from a windows to my new mac?

I have a fairly extensive library of music (made of both purchased music and other sources) on my family's windows computer, but recently purchased by own Macbook Pro for school. I want to transfer my Itunes library to my new mac. What is a relatively easy way to do this?

The Apple Store will do this for you.
You can call Apple Support and they will help you do it.

  • Is there another way to copy my iTunes library from a windows pc to my mac than using migration assistant

when i use migration assistant to transfer my iTunes music it creates a new and separate user account which is annoying but even worse when i attempt to play songs iTunes states that it can't locate file???

See this -> Move your content to a new Mac - Apple Support
"If two user accounts have the same name
If your new Mac already has a user account with the same name as one you're trying to transfer, Migration Assistant lets you decide what to do. You can either replace the existing user on your new Mac, or give the user you're migrating a new account name.
Selecting the option to replace an existing user overwrites that user's Home folder on your new Mac. This can be convenient if you just set up your new Mac using the same account name and of your important data is still on your original Mac. Don't select the option to replace the existing user unless you're certain you don't have any important files stored in this user's Home folder on your new Mac."
I create an new account named Admin, then log into this account to run Migration Assistant.

  • Migrate iTunes library from Windows to OSX

Hi all, just bought a new mac to replace my Windows PC and I want to get my iTunes library on it. Having a look around the net I found a few posts like this:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15263517?searchText=Migrate%20iTunes%20lib rary%20from%20Windows%20to%20OSX#15263517
    and
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/migrating-itunes-library-betw een-windows-and-mac-os-x/
which basically suggest just copying over the "itunes media" folder from my pc to the mac in the correct location and it should just work. As these two posts are both a bit old I thought I'd check up to see if there's a better way of doing it now or if that's still my best option.
    Thanks

If you want to move over your playlists as well you need to copy the iTunes folder containing iTunes Media. All your library files are in their. iTunes Media is just your content files

You can't. iCloud does not apply to music. You will need to subscribe to iTunes Match to get music into the cloud but note that this is not a back up service.

  • Moving iTunes library from one Windows PC to another

How can I move my iTunes library from one Windows PC to another using iTunes 11.0.1.12?
I seem to lose my playlists and more oddly some track meta-data and settings - can anyone point me to a good guide as the search hasn't turned up anything that's worked for me?
    Thanks

Thank you so much for replying!  I'm not sure I quite understand, though.  The media folder is in (2TB) /iTunes/iTunes Music/Music currently, cloned from (1TB) /iTunes/iTunes Music/Music.  If I copied the /iTunes/ folder from 1TB to the 2TB, I'd be doing the exact same thing as when I cloned it, which I'm willing to do if I'm understanding you correctly.
Or are you asking me to copy all of the files (minus the /iTunes Music/ folder) in the (1TB) /iTunes/ folder and replace all of those files in the (2TB) /iTunes/ folder?

  • HT1364 Move itunes library from a windows computer and import this library to itunes on a macbook air

Is it possible to move itunes library from a windows computer to an external drive (time capsule) while, keeping all the playlist, ratings, plays etc. And importing this library to itunes on a macbook air? And how is it done? The media files should stay on the external drive since there is not enough space on the macbook air.
    Regards

Hey man. Thanks a lot for the reply (hold the options instead of command key while launching). My old itunes library is now on my new computer in itunes, but the mp3 files are not in the same itunes folder. Where do I place these or what do I do to play them in my new itunes library?
All the songs in the library have exclamation marks in front of them because itunes can't find them.
    Thanks again

  • How to move iTunes library from my iBook to my new Mac??

What's the best way to move my current iTunes library from my iBook to my new Mac?
I am sure there's a simple answer I just don't know it yet.
    Thanks for your help.

Probably the most straightforward way to get iTunes onto your new computer is to network the two computers and copy your iTunes folder across. This works fine if you have been using iTunes to completely manage your music and all your songs are in iTunes Music not in different folders. Connecting two Mac computers using Ethernet
Copying the whole folder brings with it the iTunes Music folder and also the iTunes Library (iTunes Library.itl in Windows) database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
When you copy the iTunes folder make sure you put it into the same location on the new computer. This has to be the exact same place, on a Mac this would be in Username/Music/. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will be the same as on the original one Songs, Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings etc. When I moved iTunes a while ago for my daughter I was also using the same version of iTunes, not sure how important that is but it's probably worth keeping them the same.
Another way to connect two Macs is to connect them over Firewire and put the one with the iTunes library on it into target mode: How to use FireWire target disk mode
