Migrating 'production queries' back to DEV/QA in 04s

Hi All,
We anticipate that some of our 04s BW queries/reports will be developed in our dev system and migrated to QA/production, and that some reports will be developed directly in production as 'ad hoc' reports.  These 'ad hoc' production-built reports are often valuable reports to have in the dev/qa landscape for future project/regression testing.
In BW 3.x, SAP documented an approach using transports to collect BW queries in a production system and transport them back to a dev/qa system.
Has this process changed in 04s?  Is there a different recommended that we should consider?  Advice on using XML export/import instead?
Thanks!

Hi Lonnie,
I haven't tested it but it should be the same in NW2004s. Using XML is not a good option for transporting between SAP systems. That's what the transport mechanism was designed for!

When migrating from time machine to my new hard drive, it migrates the first back-up I made several years ago. How can I migrate the latest back-up ? I need time machine to migrate the latest back-up. Should I delete the older back-ups ?

As noondaywitch says, it should use the latest backup.
Where are your backups (external HD, Time Capsule, etc.)?
It sounds like there are two separate sets, and you're not connected to the right set.

  • Production Copy Back - RFC's/Ports/EDI

Before copying back from production to pre-production we want to export the RFC destinations/Ports/EDI partners from the pre-production environment. When the production copy back has been completed we want to import the RFC destinations/Ports/EDI partners copied previously back into pre-production environment. Does anyone have a definitive list of tables that should be copied to perform this task.
I know SAP identify OSS note 182172 for the EDI partners but what about the RFC's and ports. We know we have to do some manipulation of the ALE/EDI partner/RFC's after but it does reduce the workload greatly rather than having to recreate everything again. We have performed an SQL trace on each area to identify the tables.

It looks infotype for the Unit relationship is missing. How did you copy back or replicate it ?

  • How to clone my SAP (production) to my SAP (dev) ?

I need to clone my SAP (production) to my SAP (dev).
What are the proper procedures of it ?
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi Ming,
Based on requirement you can decide upon the approach.
    1) In case you need to have all the data from PRD to DEV you can go with homogenous system copy method using backup/restore or Export / import.
    2) In case you need to have only master data copied from PRD to DEV, you need to use SAP TDMS to perform the data transfer from PRD to DEV. Additional license will be required for SAP TDMS.
    3) In case your database size not high ( say less than 500 GB) and you need all the data from PRD to DEV, you can perform client copy from PRD to DEV using profile SAP_ALL.
    Hope this information is useful.

  • Migrating from ZFS back to UFS

    Hello all!
Does anybody know a procedure to migrate from ZFS back to UFS? If I have zfs with BE how is it possible to go back to ufs root with correct BE configuration ?
    Regards, Pavel

There can be different reasons to migrate back from ZFS to UFS. For example you cannot create new BE with vxfs/ufs shared filesystems using -m option if your root is in rpool.. Or if you need using EMC BCV clones imported on the same host which is not supported for zpool. Or if you have run into a bug in the new patch on zfs...

    Venkat,
Migration of Queries can do using T-code u2013 RSZC.
    Purpose-
If you are doing enhancement or remodeling to your Infocube, then in order to not stopping users from viewing Reports, we copy all queries to another Infocube and allow users viewing data.
It is not possible to create all adhoc queries which are created on top of that Infocube when we want to reuse them.

  • Struggling to migrate sharepoint sites developed on dev or qa over to production

So, user 1 comes along and wants to put together a new site. He wants to use SharePoint Designer to set up pretty colors, create a new theme and use it, create a series of custom lists, etc.
Meanwhile, on these same machines, there is a variety of InfoPath development occurring by developer 2. The development is going on in a different site collection than user 1 is using.
User 1 gets to the point where he wants to migrate the minty fresh sharepoint site from dev to production.
He creates a template with content.
He copies it over to the production system. When he attempts to use it, he gets an error saying that Feature '{gobblidy gook}' is not found.
We look at features turned on, and the out of the box features are the same.
HOWEVER, the dev system has quite a number of dev instances of the InfoPath apps as they have gone through the "code, test, fix" cycle.
It appears to me that the issue is that the template is listing every one of those InfoPath forms as a requirement.
There's no way that I am interested in broken or incomplete InfoPath features being installed into production.
It appears to me that the user is stuck recreating the dev site on production.
That seems terribly inefficient to me.  The entire template concept is pretty screwed up if templates uploaded to one site collection become required in another.
I presume that one or more of us - user 1, developer 2, or myself - is missing some critical bit of information that would make these things work.
Or is this really the kind of limitation by which others using InfoPath are hindered?

Where can I find those best practices?
Before we started using SharePoint, we always had at least dev, qa, and production machines where things being developed would start out and migrate through.
I suspect there would be a lot of resistance to giving all users their own VMs as well as their own SharePoint farms to work under, and I expect that attempting to move InfoPath apps from an individual's environment would have the exact same problem as we
are encountering - a developer wants to iterate through a series of unit testing before they consider an application (ie InfoPath form) stable enough to undergo testing by a group of stakeholders. Thus things created on the dev machine will have dependencies
on "features" (aka the individual test versions of the InfoPath form) that would not be installed on the stakeholder's test machine, and the last stable version on the test machine would have dependencies on versions that would not be promoted to
    production.
developing on production has the issue of having to work in parallel with the previous stable version of the application, without causing the users of the stable version issues.

  • Migrate Webi Report / Universe from Dev to production

    Hello,
there are lot of possibilities to migrate a Webi report or a universe  from Development server to Production server. my question for the experts is what is best practice scenario to do that. What should i take in consideration.
if i rename my Production universe, place it in an other Path and  base my migration on the option "compare name and Path" of the universes. would it migrate ? What about the Connection ?
My Target when migrating Universes. Is only to migrate the universe without connections
But when migrating Webi Reports is to migrate only the reports without universes or connections. But at the same time be sure that the Report is adressed to the right universe in the Destination System.
Is that realistic .. Thanx ..

    Prerequest:
You should have Remote access to both the server the BO is installed
    Approach1:
    Login to source server
create a folder with the name temp.biar in the desktop of server 1
Go to import wizard of server 1
select server 1 as source and temp.biar file as a destination and import all that required to biar file
from server 1 connect to server 2 and place this biar file in some shared folder
    connect to server2
open the shared folder and copy that biar file and place it in the desktop of server2
Go to import wizard of server 2
select the temp.biar file from desktop of server 2 and destination as server 2
    and complete the process
Note: as we are doing this in remote, there will be lot of issues while connection to path which sometimes even the erro r message will mislead us....
    Approach2:
    dont create any biar file
    Login to server 2
    Go to import wizard
select server 1 as source and server 2 as destination and move directly from server to server
Approach2 is not preffered if server 2 is production serve....
    this may help
    Thanks,

  • Move Production back to Dev

    Hi all
I am looking to take a copy of our Production BPC environment and move it to Development.
I regularly do this using UJBR but only for master and transactional data (not meta data).
Is there a way to move all elements of production to development ?  By this, I mean: BPF's, teams, task profiles, etc...
If this is possible, could you confirm how this can be achieved ?  e.g., delete existing environment in dev beforehand, etc..
    Thanks
    Ian

    Thanks Nilanjan
A final question for you..... As this appears to be a rather big step, is there a way to take a backup of the environment in Prod (e.g., ENV1) and restore it as a new one in Dev (e.g., ENV2) ??
This would allow us to see exactly how the full restore (including metadata) behaves.
    Thanks again

  • List view threshold showing error on Production but not on Dev

I have a library on Production containing 6000 items.
There is a web part which displays items from that library (all on one page) and it is showing error because the items exceeded 5000 limit.
The same web part on Dev is not showing error when I display 6000 records from that list on a single page.
List view threshold is set to 5000 on both Production and Dev.
Why both servers are showing different behaviors? Is there some other setting other than List view threshold different on Production than Dev?
    Where do I look?

    Hi Frank,
The number of items in a folder needs to be less or equal to the list view threshold.
If a list/library has 4000 items and a folder with 3000 items, both the folder view and the root folder view will
work for a list view threshold of 5000. However, if the folder or root folder grows to have more than 5000 items,
it will stop displaying items in the default view.
The easiest and quickest solution is to change the list view threshold for the period you migrate the site, then change it back to default. To do this follow the steps:
go to your SP2013 Farm's Central Administration
go to the "Manage Web Applications" under the "Application
    Management" section
select the "Web Application" where you migrate the site
click the "General Settings" dropdown and select "Resources
    Throttling"
change the "List View Threshold" to 12000 if your library has 11000 pages
migrate your site from SP2010 to SP2013
change the "List View Threshold" back to 5000.
SharePoint 2013 works the same as 2010 in terms of list view threshold: you can use folders and/orviews filtered on indexed columns to
access items in a list/library with more than 5000 of items.
When you try to add/delete an entire list/library that has more than 5000 items, then the operation fails. The solutions here are:
see what I've said at point 2. above
enable the "Daily Time Window for Large Queries" option located in the same place as the "List View Threshold".
This enables you to get around the "List View Threshold" during the time window you set, which could be sometime at 23:00 when nobody accesses SharePoint, for example. You can migrate your site during that time window.

  • Migration of Webi Reports from DEV To QA

    Hi ,
we are implementing BO for the first time using SAP BW data as the Source.
we are done with the development of the BO webi reports .Now need to migrate the reports form Dev to test system.
Can anyone send me a Procedure for mirgrating the Queries from Dev to Test.
    We are using BO 3.1 Sp2 .
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hey janardhana Ch,
    One can use :
    1. LCM(Life Cycle Management)
    2. Import Wizard
SAP BO introduced LCM specifically for migration of reports/universes etc between different environments. (DevTestQA--Prod) and at the same time one can use "Import Wizard" also.
And Import Wizard you can use for migration from older version to newer versions.
Per my experience, i used and using Import Wizard for migration between environments.
If you need further help on this, just let me know your mail, i'll share real-time migration doc which i prepared.
    Thank You!!

  • Migrating discoverer queries from 10g to 11g

We are thinking about upgrading Discoverer 10G to 11G. Is there any type of query migration process necessary? Or will the 10G queries run just fine in 11G?
    Thanks!

They should run fine for the most part - perform the upgrade in test instance and then verify.

  • Windows 8 Product key back

    Hi
I bought few years ago HP p6 2490eo desktop pc.
It had Windows 8 preinstalled, but on box it didnt have any cd for windows 8 key.
Then i installed WIndows 10, but i thought its stupid so i uninstalled it.
And now i have installed windows 8.1 preview thing and pc wants me to activate windows 8 again.
But i cant find any product key if i look from BIOS it only shows my windows 10 key.
So is it possible to get my windows 8 key back if i send like proof of purchase?
    Thanks

Windows 8 key is embedded in the BIOS, so if you installed the correct "edition" of Windows 8, it should activate automatically.  If you used Windows 8.1 to install, then maybe READ THIS to get a way to insert the key.
BTW: I doubt HP will help on this matter.
