Mixing Tables with Divs :: Discussion

I've been doing a lot of study lately regarding standards.
There seems to be some controversy regarding mixing tables with divs. There is the purist camp who advocate all divs, and there is the practical camp that advocates tables for structure and divs when needed otherwise.
I would be interested in the thoughts of GoLive (as well as DW) users who would like to comment.

Can I replace my table with divs, in this context?

Hi,
I'm trying to accomplish something without the use of tables. Maybe someone can tell me how.
- The skeleton is basically made up of 3 newspaper-style columns.
- Their widths aren't very likely to change -- their widths will be fixed -- so this eliminates one problem right off the bat, right?
- The first column (left) is a sidebar menu, and it has its own distinct background image pattern.
- The other two columns (mid and right) share a flat background. Right now, I'm just calling the same 1k JPG twice (once in each of those two columns/cells). I find this simpler than creating an unnecessary container just for the common background.
- All 3 columns begin at the same line (0).
So far so good, the fixed widths and the fact that they all begin at y=0 makes this easier than it otherwise could have been.
Now here's the tricky part :
- The amount of content is different from page to page (some pages are longer than others), and the amount of content per column will also vary individually (so the sidebar might be the longest column in one file, the mid column could be the longest element in the next, and so on...)
- The layout is horizontally centered.
- All 3 columns need to end at the same spot, which will be dynamic from page to page (in other words, the backgrounds of these columns need to stretch/repeat until the end of the column with the most content, whichever of the 3 columns that may be on any given page).
- There is a page-end image to display that is as wide as the combined 3 column widths.
As you can imagine, using a table with 3 columns makes this easy as pie. But I was told to avoid tables whenever possible, so if there's an easy way to justapose 3 divs and have them behave like 3 cells of the same table -- without too much markup -- I'd give it a try, and potentially leave tables behind for good.
It would be easy enough to create a large container div, horizontally center it, and left-float 3 divs inside it... but this doesn't address the problem of having to have those backgrounds repeat all the way to the end of the site. The way I just described, the backgrounds would vertically end wherever the content of that individual column ends.
And since we know divs don't like height=100%, well...

Fireworks Imports - Replacing Tables with Divs

Hi folks,
I love Fireworks to bits but it's intergration with DW is slowly driving me nuts.
Take a look at the code for www.total-formula1.com
I've imported a nav section, top bar and footer from Fireworks - which (IMHOP) look great until you look at the code.
Then it becomes a mess of tables and spacer gif's.
I've tried importing as CSS with images but it looses behaviours.
Am I kidding myself. Do I have to split it all up and use DW to perform rollovers?
Thoughts, help or a loaded shotgun welcome.

Fireworks CSS and Images export does not support Javascript. Same with States, if I recall. CSS and Images will not export out anything but the current state. You would have to add that code (CSS or JS) in by using Dreamweaver or another editor.
If properly set up, you may be able to export the entire page as CSS and images, then only have to add in the CSS to create the mouseover effect, after they've been exported as graphics.

It seems you have exported the html from photoshop into
Dreamweaver.
This is not the best way to build a page. You should slice up
your images
and then export the images only into a folder. You then build
the page
using these exported images in your table or css layout. You
can place the
images directly into table cells or divs or use them as
background images
via css.

Importing table with mixed case on MySQL

I am trying to import a table form MySQL 5.0. Two tables exist with the same name, with first letter capital in one and all lower case in the other (ex. Jobdetails, jobdetails). After hitting the Show ATL button on the data source, all case sensitive settings are Yes. The table with the first letter capital is always imported no matter which table is selected. I can't import the lower case table. I am on Data Services 12.2.

I have found that patchSet 9.2.0.3 fixes some bugs in Oracle Text.
One of them is Bug 2684307: "Mixed tokens not uppercased with BASE_LETTER in multibyte database". That's exactly the problem i am dealing with.
I will proceed to install this patchSet and verify that this does not happend anymore.

Using expdp to export a mix of tables with data and tables without data

Hi,
I would like to create a .dmp file using expdp, exporting a set of tables with data and another set without data. Is there a way to do this in a single .dmp file? For example, I want all the tables in a schema with data, but for the fact tables in that schema, I only want the fact table objects, not the data. I thought it might be easier to create two separate .dmp files, one for each scenario, but would be nice to have one .dmp file that satisfies my requirement. Any help is appreciated.

You could do this with where clauses. Let's say you have 10 tables to export, 5 with data and 5 without data. I would do it like this
tab1_w_data
tab2_w_data
tab3_w_data
tab4_w_data
tab5_w_data
tab1_wo_data
tab2_wo_data
tab3_wo_data
tab4_wo_data
tab5_wo_data
I would make one generic query
query="where rownum = 0"
and I would make 5 specific queries
query=tab1_w_data:"where rownum > 0"
query=tab2_w_data:"where rownum > 0"
query=tab3_w_data:"where rownum > 0"
query=tab4_w_data:"where rownum > 0"
query=tab5_w_data:"where rownum > 0"
The first query will be applied to all tables that don't have their own specific query and it will export no rows, the next 5 will apply to each of the corresponding table.

WCF-SQL table operation on tables with the same name.

My situation involves generating table operation schemas (Insert, Update, Delete, Select) for tables in two different SQL databases. These tables happen to have the same name. For the sake of discussion lets call the tables dbo.Customer. However,
these tables have different fields in them. When generating the schemas to be used by BizTalk, they end up as the same message type like so:
Database1: http://schemas.microsoft.com/Sql/2008/05/TableOp/dbo/Customer#Update
Database2: http://schemas.microsoft.com/Sql/2008/05/TableOp/dbo/Customer#Update
To my understanding, I can't simply change the namespaces or root nodes to be unique since this structure is expected by the SQL Adapter (shown here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd788023.aspx). I had a couple thoughts on a solution:
Use schema versions to differentiate between the two different table schemas.
Use a unique namespace and root node for the schemas. Then, create a custom pipeline component to modify them to the standard as it is sent to SQL server.
Modify the schema so support both tables with all columns in both tables.
I don't really like any of these solutions, so I am hoping somebody in the community has run into this situation before and has something better.

You don't really have to do anything other than make sure the particular message gets routed always to the correct database.
Having duplicate MessageType's is only a problem if you're relying on the automatic resolution of the XmlDisassembler and that would only be a concern on the Response side.
To get around that, just create a custom Pipeline with the XmlDisassembler and set the Document Schemas list to only the one for that Port.

Now what I want to do is allow user to select rows on the table. Once they select a row I want to get that selected row and search SP list based on the selected value. Also I would like to make this table with search area to search records.

How to Create a Table with Merge and partitions in HANA

Ok,
1) the UNLOAD PRIORITY has nothing to do with the order of data loads in your ETL process
2) Unloading of columns will happen automatically. Don't specify anything specific for the tables, then SAP HANA will take care about it
3) Not sure where you get your ideas from, but there is no need to manually "flush" tables or anything like that. SAP HANA will take care of memory housekeeping.
4) Partitioning and how to specify it for tables has been largely documented. Just read up on it.
5) Delta Merge will happen automatically, as long as you don't prevent it (e.g. by trying to outsmart the mergedog rules)
Seriously, I get the impressions that this list of requirements is based on some hear-say and lack of actual information and experience with SAP HANA. There are a couple of extensive discussions on data loading optimization available here in SCN and on SAPHANA.COM. Please read those first.
All this had been discussed broadly a couple of times.

Dynamic Table with two columns

Hi!
i have to create a Dynamic Table with two columns having 5-5 links each with some text...... three links r based on certain conditions....they r visible only if condition is true...
if the links r not visible in this case another links take it's place & fill the cell.
links/text is coming from database.
i am using Struts with JSP IDE netbeans

Cannot highlight specific things in tables with the new CC Dreamweaver

I'm an interactive designer, so I code and design emails for my company. Since DIVS are not able to be used in emails (too much browser incompatibility), our emails are coded with tables (sadly).
That being said, in CS6, whenever I selected something in the design view, Dreamweaver would immediately highlight whatever I selected. So, for example, the "hero" image in the email - I would click it and the URL to the image would then be highlighted. Same for text, links, anything. Worked great, saved lots of time.
My coworkers and I, after having a crap top of issues even installing CC in the first place, can now no longer do this. When I select that hero image in design view, Dreamweaver highlights the whole table that it is in, or something else completely irrelevant, instead of the image link. We now have to search through our code to find the URL or whatever we're looking to edit, which is extremely time consuming and opens up a whole lot of QA issues. We notices with DIVs, that this highlighting function works fine, but since we mostly work with tables it's very frustrating.
Is there a setting, a work around? Anything? Help D:

Nothing changed in DW in regards to selecting something in Design View and having it highlight in Code View, but, your explanation of what's happening gave me a thought...
Are you certain you are actually in Design View?
DWCC 2014.1 did some strange stuff to Design/Code/Split/Live preferences. It's possible you are actually editing in Live View (you'll see light blue outlines around selected items) which doesn't work as well as Design View and will highlight the wrong code a very similarly way to what you describe.
Make sure Design is selected from the dropdown menu next to Split in your Document Toolbar.

AMDP exporting table with fields from various sources

I am writing an AMDP that has an output table a list of employees and attributes. These attributes have various sources with various keys. If I cannot with any practicality construct this table with a single select statement, which given my search criteria, I probably can't, must I break my output table into multiple output tables that can be created with a single select?
I declare the structure of output table et_employees in the class as something like

As far as I can tell, I cannot do an update et_employees in the method to modify individual fields. I can only do the select statement.
I see my choices as
elaborate select statement that I may or may not be able to construct (haven't thought this through but it may be doable)
more than one output table
create multiple local tables and then do a join on them for the output table.
I am seeing the last one as my best option.
To throw in an unrelated issue, AMDP procedure cannot seem to cope with a table that begins with a slash, e.g., /MRSS/D_SQP_ESTR. The USING statement is o.k. but any access in a select or inner join gets an error.

let me do some assumptions on your problem and then try to help you:
Assumption A: You only like to query data from tables, which, I simply assume, are available in the ABAP data dictionary. In this case, I don't think there is a performance gain with AMDPs compared to OpenSQL, so just use OpenSQL and do joins on the relevant tables, leading to exaclty one resultset in the output.
Assumption B: You need the AMDP because you have a good reason and you like to query data from tables employee_source_a and employee_source_b for your resultset. In case yes, you can e.g. use "temporary" tables (don't declare them explicitly), e.g. use the construct like:
lt_employee_source_a = select ...from employee_source_a ...;
lt_employee_source_b = select ... from employee _source_b...;
et_employee = select ... from :lt_employee_source_a ... (inner/left outer) join lt_employee_source_b on...;
Or you could use the CE_JOIN function if that suits your SQLScript development better.
To elaborate a query statement for et_employee for without the lt_xxx tables is hard to say from your question - it should be posible if there are no nasty aggregations/calculations which prevent it :-).
There's no need to use two resultsets in the output in case that's not what you need in the application.
The option to have several resultsets is rather a feature of DB Procedures, which allow for several resultsets while a view/OpenSQL query can only give you one resultset.
Conclusion: You answered your question yourself, the last option seems to be the best option :-).
Concerning the "slash issue": Guessing around I'd propose to use quote the table name like "/MRSS/D_SQP_ESTR"... but just a guess. Could you please post the error message or open a second discussion on the issue?

Query performance on same table with many DML operations

Hi all,
I am having one table with 100 rows of data. After that, i inserted, deleted, modified data so many times.
The select statement after DML operations is taking so much of time compare with before DML operations (There is no much difference in data).
If i created same table again newly with same data and fire the same select statement, it is taking less time.
My question is, is there any command like compress or re-indexing or something like that to improve the performance without creating new table again.

Try searching "rebuilding indexes" on http://asktom.oracle.com. You will get lots of hits and many lively discussions. Certainly Tom's opinion is that re-build are very rarley required.
As far as I know, Oracle has always re-used deleted rows in indexes as long as the new row belongs in that place in the index. The only situation I am aware of where deleted rows do not get re-used is where you have a monotonically increasing key (e.g one generated by a seqence), and most, but not all, of the older rows are deleted over time.
For example if you had a table like this where seq_no is populated by a sequence and indexed
seq_no         NUMBER
processed_flag VARCHAR2(1)
trans_date     DATEand then did deletes like:
DELETE FROM t
WHERE processed_flag = 'Y' and
      trans_date <= ADD_MONTHS(sysdate, -24);that deleted the 99% of the rows in the time period that were processed, leaving only a few. Then, the index leaf blocks would be very sparsely populated (i.e. lots of deleted rows in them), but since the current seq_no values are much larger than those old ones remaining, the space could not be re-used. Any leaf block that had all of its rows deleted would be reused in another part of the index.
