ModelNode and Java Dictionary structures

Hi all,
when working with Models it seems it is not possible to bind the context to a java-dictionary-structure, right?
But if I want to use dictionary-structures, for example because I want to set an "output-format" or a "max-length-constraint", then I have to copy the data somehow into valueNodes and valueAttributes, right?
Or am I completely on a wrong track?
Josef

Josef,
you're right. model-nodes (-attributes) can't be changed in any way. but you can create (new) model-nodes that are created to (model)dictionary-structures.
if you want to maintain the attributes like "max-length" you have to create your own dictionary objects, because the model-attributes are derived from the backend.

  • X I and Java Dictionary

    Hi Friends,
    I have created some tables in Java Dictionary Project in NDS and deployed it on the server.I want to access those tables directly from XI. For that i have done JDBC connection to the underlying data base of the Java Stack on server. Connection established succesfully but it is giving that no tables found.Then i tried to access the tables using Oracle SQL+ environment,there also i can't see the tables that i have created through Java Dictionary .
    My question is that " I have created tables through Java Dictionary but want to access the data directly using some Oracle Client." Is it possible?????/
    Regards,
    Gowtham K

    yes it is very much posiible. You just login to oracle enterprise manager there search ur tables under the installed databses. Login to database as an administrator.You will definately find the tables there.So if u want to access these tables from ur editor ,create a user if needed or use the existing user and configure ur client.
    It will definately work.U will be able to access the data too.

  • Mapping between ABAP and Java IPC structure

    Hi all:
            Somebody know how translate the following abap structure to java:
    KOMK-KDUMMY = 'X'
    KOMP-PSTYV = 'ZTAD'
    KOMK-ZZNTGEW
    Help me please!!!

    David,
    Open KOMK in se11 / data type and check the meaning.
    Its a header bridge structure between pricing and other application.
    You can find meaning of structure attributes there.
    Only the names are different but meaning of them remains the same in CRM.

  • Synchronization JAVA and ABAP Dictionary

    Hello all,
    I'm going to do some Java-Development and have to call function modules in SAP ABAP (BAPIs) Environment. All the Input and output parameters are defined within the ABAP Dictionary. Do I have to create all these Dataelements and Structures again in the JAVA-Dictionary? Is there no way to generate them from ABAP-Dictionary? I can't believe this!
    Thanks for Help!
    Wolfgang Ritter

    Hi Wolfgang,
    Of course you can generate Proxies to call ABAP BAPIs. Within NWDS, follow this menu path: "File > New > Other" In the popup box select "SAP Connectivity", Click next, this starts the SAP Enterprise Connector wizard that will guide you through connect to an SAP system, selecting BAPIs/RFMs and then will generate all the Java Code needed for calling those BAPIs/RFMs.
    There is tons of documentation out there for this tool.
    Good luck!

  • Preferred Uses of Structure from Java Dictionary

    Hello Friends ,
    I am confused about the scenarios where the structure can be used as the data type from the java dictionary
    It will be help full if could be known about some scenarios which could make the usage of structure clear

    Hi,
    Java Dictionary can be used as a central repository for cross-platform definitions of data types and database objects.
    Data type descriptions in the form of structures are used in Web applications and can be created in the Java Dictionary independently of the program code. Structures created in the Java Dictionary can be reused in different Web Dynpro contexts.

  • Java Dictionary and Text

    Hello,
      I'm creating an application that requires me to store a large amount of text (around 5000 characters).  The first part of the dilema is how I should persist the data in the java dictionary.  Should I just create one large field?  Or do I need to do something complex and split up each text into smaller lines and have some retrieval method?  The next part of the question has to do with searching this text.  What is the best way to make this text searchable?  Any ideas are much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dustin Gronso

    Hi Dustin,
    if you want to have the text searchable, you have to split it up. For columns of type 'string' there are two possibilities in the Data Dictonary:
    1. varchar: the length is limited to 1000 characters, but you can search with a WHERE condition
    2. CLOB allows longer length, but no index or WHERE condition for this column is possible.
    Hope this helps,
    Juergen

  • Your opinion on Java dictionary and Open JDBC

    Hi all,
    What is you experience with the Java dictionary and Open JDBC? I'm awaiting your feedback!
    My take on the topic is:
    Pros:
    - database independence, will run on any NW installation, saves labour
    Cons:
    - one schema, no way to test db code outside of NW
    Questions:
    - Is there a naming convention to prevent name clashes with SAP and other vendors objects?
    - Is there a way to deploy to a different then the default schema?
    Regards
    Gregor
    Background: Migrating an app to NW, I kept the db code using 'native JDBC', created my one schema and data source in the NW database ... and produced a functioning app.

    You can set the maximum number of connections by using:
    ServerSocket server = new ServerSocket( port, backlog );
    Where backlog is the number of connections at any one time. I'm not sure - but I'm guessing that the physical limit is dictated by your hardware. Once you queue is full of connections, you are right - any further connections are refused. The default number of connections is 50.

  • How to query Database via Mobile WebDynpro with Java Dictionary?

    Hi all,
    I'm developing a simple mobile webdynpro appplication using Dictionary(DC). My Question is, how the Java Dictionary can query/insert/update/delete the underlying default database tables? I'm reluctant to use EJB as it is just for a simple application. Is there any quick and simple way to achieve this?
    Any help would be much appreciate.

    Hi,
    Dictonary project will helps you in creating tables in the backendand creating the same context structure in your WebDynpro application..
    But for doing update/add records you need to write code .Please check this How to create tables in Database when webdynpro project is deployed

  • Java Dictionary or ABAP tables

    Dear all,
    Can anybody tell me when to make use of Java Dictionary?
    I've seen different projects that make use of ABAP tables as well as Java dictionary to store data. But what will be the criteria to decide which one I should choose for  my data persistence?
    For example, I've a requirement at my hand, which will have huge data transfer per day & the number of records in the table will be in lacs. Where will I persist my data in Java dictionary or ABAP tables?
    What are the pros & cons of each?
    Regards,
    Aparnna

    Hi
    Sir as your question : I wanted to know the pros & cons of using Java Dictionary (Dictionary DC) as well as ABAP tables ?
    Please try to understand both are different things in their context , OK let me try again
    1.  Java Dictonary is used used to define the table structure its data types and  used for portal database if it is small/ lightweighted.
    2.ABAP table is again for defining the structure , datatypes , which is used in RFC/BAPI.
    3. When to use what or Pros & Cons
    Java supports more models (Javabeans, web services, adaptive RFC, and XMI) . Data Dictonary is common every where  ,OK
    Compared to the function module model in  ABAP,
    (so u can think like this that  ABAP tables are base in SAP environment to define metadata of the databse , Similar concept java has implemented using data dictonary)
    There is nothing comparable because both have their own purpose to serve, except Java Dictonary are mostly use for small project or if project involvment is only in Java., where as ABAP table has no limit .
    and ,
    Second thing is both has code wizards to generate the metatdata after definition.
    Best Regards

  • Error while saving date value in Java dictionary

    Hello Everybody,
    I got following error while saving date value in one of the fields of the Java table.
    Internal error occured in submit request: Error in method updateRequestContact : The object of type java.sql.Date with the value '2005-12-04 08:00:00.0' assigned to host variable 9 is not normalized. It must not contain time components in the time zone running the virtual machine.
    I can't find why it is taking time value in the date object.
    This value is coming from the RFC as a date value, and I am saving this value in Java dictionary table.
    Same code for this was working fine earlier. But, now suddenly it gives error like this.
    Even if I provide date on the screen from webdynpro application, this date value can't save in the Java dictionary and gives same error.
    What should be the problem behind this?
    Regards,
    Bhavik

    Hi Satyajit,
    I am getting date value from the screen of the webdynpro application from date picker control and passing this value in Java dictionary.
    More Information:
    I have dat value in the Date object: <b>target_date</b>
    But Now I have made new Date object as following:
    Date target_Date1 = new Date(target_date.getYear(),target_date.getMonth(),target_date.getDate());
    Then I am passing this object to Java dictionary. Still it gives same error.
    Then I have changed code as following:
              int l_year;
              int l_month;
              int l_days;
              l_year = target_Date.getYear();
              l_month = target_Date.getMonth();
              l_days = target_Date.getDate();
         Date target_Date1 = new Date(l_year,l_month,l_days);
    Now it works for me.
    But I guess this is not the perment solution. It looks very strange. I have used so many date objects at various palces. So, this solution is not the final for me.
    I want to findout the main cause of it.
    One more thing: This code was working for a mornth or two. But, now suddenly it is giving this error.
    Please help me if anybody knows.
    Regards,
    Bhavik

    PLZZ DO HELP OUT!!!

    The message in simple English just means that "You are doing something really bad" !!! It is absolutely not the communication problem, but understanding problem.
    Though you may be executing the same function using SE37 or in the webshop application through JCo, the runtime context is different and without knowing what exactly your Z rfc is doing, it is very difficult to help. To start with, the userid - that is who is running the RFC is different in both situations. In SE37, it is the logon user and in the web, depending upon whether the connection is stateless or stateful, it could be the anonymous ICSS user or the logged in user. Here again, if you have used UME, it is the user id and if you have used ALIAS user, then it is the alias user id. This is just an example. Your runtime context can be different due to many other reasons too.
    So, to make this simpler - what is that you are trying to do?
    BTW, try not to create multiple threads for the same issue..

  • How not to use Cold Fusion and Java

    Overview
    This write up is intended to give java developers that are
    developing ColdFusion applications some beneficial information:
    things that are not documented.
    Scenario
    The company builds enterprise class web application software
    for fortune 500 companies. It had purchased a CF 7 based product,
    had and existing proprietary J2EE based product, and needed to
    integrate the two while meeting a host of new requirements. These
    requirements were based on delivering a better user experience,
    faster / cheaper integration, increased flexibility /
    configuration, useablily, decreasing maintenance costs, the ability
    to deploy in either install or ASP models. An initiative was
    started to create a new framework that integrated the best of each
    technologies. Tactically, this meant that we were to build a hybrid
    CF and java application: one that used building blocks (decoupled /
    cohesive components) that would allow applications to be rapidly
    assembled, configured and deployed. This made sense on several
    levels, the team was composed of Java and CF developers, the CF
    rapid application development was very productive, there is great
    functionality delivered in the CF platform and initial performance
    tests showed no cause for alarm
    The agreed upon design, based on requirements, and analysis
    by both the CF and Java staff has us using CF in the presentation
    layer, using a CF based MVC, use of CF based web services. The MVC
    was deployed using CFC inheritance for model objects and views made
    use of CF custom tags. The internals of the application, used a
    rules engine, some proprietary java, ORM, and other J2EE
    technology. The initial performance of the system was reasonable.
    We pushed on with product implementation.
    Then it was time to load test the application, and tune it.
    Under load the response times were orders of magnitude slower,
    sometimes the pages even timed out.
    Armed with our profiler, oracle execution plans and we
    charged ahead addressing issue after issue. Note that we took
    meticulous care in tweaking the active thread pool and ensuring
    that our CF setup was tuned for our application. None of the
    observations here are a condemnation of the language; rather they
    are aspects that, when considered together, not conducive for
    building integrated java and CF frameworks that use a structured /
    OO programming practices. Further detail can be provided on
    request.
    CFC inheritance should be avoided - resolution of variable
    scope is expensive even if properly declared.
    Since CF creates a class per method under the covers call
    stacks become very large, especially if used in a loop. This is
    nominally exacerbated by CF calls necessary to set up for the
    method call (String.toUpper()).
    Nesting of loops and if statements should be kept to a
    minimum - the conditional for each lookup of logical operator like
    LT, GT are synchronized. Under load this results in thread waits.
    Jrun has as single thread pool - both http and web service
    requests use the same pool. Under load this leads to thread
    deadlock. There are work arounds, but they are painful.
    Recursion should be avoided - we had a few recursive routines
    and these had to be rewritten.
    Custom Tags - should be used sparingly - each custom tag
    makes a synchronized call to the license server - (This may be
    fixed in CF 8)
    Summary
    In the end we got the performance to reasonable numbers, but
    we ended up moving some code to java (Custom Tags) and getting rid
    of 'good programming' practices (Inheritance, loops, etc), mandated
    proper variable scoping for those things left over. We prototyped a
    sans cold fusion implementation and had an order of magnitude
    improvement in performance and number of requests served per
    second.
    The lesson? Use Coldfusion in its sweet spot: make a query,
    iterate over the results and format for display. Extensive use of
    structure programming techniques or OO CFCs should be avoided: they
    will work but under load - but are better as a prototype. Building
    frameworks in CF? Think twice, no three times, and, if you must, be
    minimalist.
    Text

    interesting aslbert123,
    Not that I doubt you, but could you answer some questions
    about your implementation that was so slow:
    1.) Did you put your CFCs in the application or server scope?
    2.) Were you initializing your CFCs, via CreateObject or
    <cfinvoke>, on every request?
    3.) Are you sure that you were properly Var'ing every
    variable in your methods? (people typically forget about query
    names and loop iterator variables)
    4.) Could you give examples of how your inheritence was set
    up?
    5.) For CustomTags, did you call them the old <cf_tag>
    way or the newer, better-performing <cfimport> way?
    6.) How did you connect CF to Java exactly?
    Thanks,
    Aaron

  • Simple Transformation from Adobe Form XML document to Dictionary structures

    I have an XML document that I am receiving via email (the XML document is generated from an Adobe Interactive form). I would like to write a simple transformation that will map that XML document to a structure and internal table in my ABAP program. I am new to Simple Transformations and I am having trouble working out how to write a simple transformation for this type of XML document. I would prefer to write a custom transformation rather than using the identity transformation (ID). I would appreciate any help you can provide.
    Please refer to the below for an example of the XML file.
    This maps directly to 2 dictionary structures that exist within our system containing all of the same components. PIM_REQUEST_HDR has a corresponding SAP dictionary structure Y_REQUEST_HDR and PIM_REQUEST_ITEMS has a corresponding SAP dictionary structure Y_REQUEST_ITEMS.
    Can anyone help with some instructions or examples of how to create the simple transformation?

  • Java dictionary database table in web dynpro application

    Hi,
    I want to access java dictionary database table in my web dynpro application in java.
    Right now I have created one java dictionary DC.
    and in that Dc i have created two database table .
    Now I want to use this table in my web dynpro application.
    Can anyone help me.

    You can use the Dictionary Projects to create tables in Database. You must use codes to access these database tables that is created using Dictionary projects.
    You have to use the DataSource in order to get connection ; Use Visual Administrator to see the data source name.
    You can use the following code to access the database table.
    ResultSet result = null;
    try
         InitialContext initialcontext = new InitialContext();
         DataSource datasource = (DataSource)initialcontext.lookup("jdbc/<DataSourceName>");
            Connection connection = datasource.getConnection();
         Statement statement = connection.createStatement();
         result = statement.executeQuery( <Query>);
         connection.close();
    } catch (NamingException e) {
         // TODO Auto-generated catch block
              e.printStackTrace();
    } catch (SQLException e) {
              // TODO Auto-generated catch block
              e.printStackTrace();

  • Dictionary structure with reference to two transparent tables

    Hi
    I have a question about structures defined as dictionary objects.
    Is it possible to define a dictionary structure consisting of the structure types of two transparent tables, i.e. to define a dictionary type that corresponds to something like this:
    TYPES:
               BEGIN OF ty_s_tablejoin,
                  tab1     TYPE z_table1,
                  tab2     TYPE z_table2,
               END OF ty_s_tablejoin.
    where z_table1 and z_table2 are both transparent tables?
    I need it as a dictionary type in order to pass the structure/table into a function module as an input parameter.
    There might be other ways of doing this, but it could be interesting to know if it is possible. Please excuse me if this is a weird question, I'm rather new with SAP.
    kind regards
    Klaus Stenbæ

    Hi Klaus,
    You can't create a structure in the data dictionary from two tables.  However, you can define tables based on structures then create a structure combining both.
    For example;
    Create structures ZST1 and ZST2 (containing the fields of z_table1 and z_table2 respectively)
    Then create tables z_table1 and z_table2, defining them based on ZST1 and ZST2
    Finally create a structure (say ZST12) combining both ZST1 and ZST2
    From a practical point of view, ZST1 and ZST2 should not contain the client field as when you combine them the field will duplicate.  Add the client field to z_table1, z_table2 and ZST12 before including the structres.
    Hope this helps,
    Nick
