Modify a query in a view to be dynamic

Hello
The following view's Query outputs the months of a financial year i got it with the assistance of a member here Blueshadow.
Well,i put it in a view to select month_code and month_desc in a report.
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW FINANCIAL_YEAR_MONTHS
(MONTH_CODE, MONTH_DESC)
AS
select  to_char(add_months(FROM_DATE,rn-1),'MM/YYYY') as financial_month,
month_desc
from (select * from cde_fin_year where fin_year_code = *2007*)
cross join (select rownum rn from dual connect by rownum <= 12) x
join cde_month on (cde_month.month_code = to_char(add_months(FROM_DATE,x.rn-1),'MM'))
order by x.rn;All i want to do is to make this statment dynamic not only specified to year 2007 but any year to be entered so i want to change this line to accept any parameter as follows :
from (select * from cde_fin_year where fin_year_code = *2007*)Regards,

What Satyaki De is suggesting does not create a dynamic view but rather allows to create a view dinamically. View itself is static. That solution simply prompts you what year to use while creating the view. When created, view will ONLY return the months of the financial year entered while creating the view.+* Normally, one would create view without imposing year selection and adding year to view select list:
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW FINANCIAL_YEAR_MONTHS
(MONTH_CODE, MONTH_DESC,fin_year_code)
AS
select  to_char(add_months(FROM_DATE,rn-1),'MM/YYYY') as financial_month,
month_desc
from (select * from cde_fin_year)
cross join (select rownum rn from dual connect by rownum <= 12) x
join cde_month on (cde_month.month_code = to_char(add_months(FROM_DATE,x.rn-1),'MM'))
order by x.rn;and use specific year when selecting from the view:
select * from FINANCIAL_YEAR_MONTHS where fin_year_code = whatever-year-you-need;You will have to check how it affects preformance. If optimizer will realize to push down condition fin_year_code = whatever-year-you-need, you should be OK. Otherwise view will calculate data for all financial years and only then filter that data with fin_year_code = whatever-year-you-need. Another solution could be PL/SQL package:
CREATE OR REPLACE
  PACKAGE PKG_FINANCIAL_YEAR
    IS
      PROCEDURE SET(
                    p_financial_year NUMBER
      FUNCTION GET
        RETURN NUMBER
        DETERMINISTIC;
END;
CREATE OR REPLACE
  PACKAGE BODY PKG_FINANCIAL_YEAR
    IS
      g_financial_year NUMBER;
      PROCEDURE SET(
                    p_financial_year NUMBER
        IS
        BEGIN
            g_financial_year := p_financial_year;
        END;
      FUNCTION GET
        RETURN NUMBER
        DETERMINISTIC
        IS
        BEGIN
            RETURN g_financial_year;
        END;
END;
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW FINANCIAL_YEAR_MONTHS
(MONTH_CODE, MONTH_DESC)
AS
select  to_char(add_months(FROM_DATE,rn-1),'MM/YYYY') as financial_month,
month_desc
from (select * from cde_fin_year where fin_year_code = PKG_FINANCIAL_YEAR.GET)
cross join (select rownum rn from dual connect by rownum <= 12) x
join cde_month on (cde_month.month_code = to_char(add_months(FROM_DATE,x.rn-1),'MM'))
order by x.rn;Now, you would have to set/change financial year before selecting from the view:
PKG_FINANCIAL_YEAR.SET(2007)
/Keep in mind, even though PKG_FINANCIAL_YEAR.GET is declared as deterministic, there is no guarantee it will be called once, so it might be slight performance degradatation. Similar can be achieved by creating GTT:
CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE GTT_FINANCIAL_YEAR(FIN_YEAR NUMBER);
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW FINANCIAL_YEAR_MONTHS
(MONTH_CODE, MONTH_DESC)
AS
select  to_char(add_months(FROM_DATE,rn-1),'MM/YYYY') as financial_month,
month_desc
from (select * from cde_fin_year,GTT_FINANCIAL_YEAR where fin_year_code = FIN_YEAR)
cross join (select rownum rn from dual connect by rownum <= 12) x
join cde_month on (cde_month.month_code = to_char(add_months(FROM_DATE,x.rn-1),'MM'))
order by x.rn;Same way, you would have to set/change financial year before selecting from the view:
DELETE GTT_FINANCIAL_YEAR
INSERT GTT_FINANCIAL_YEAR
  VALUES(2007)
/SY.

  • Bug in BC4J test query while creating view based on query

    In BC4J while creating a view from query if we test our query , BC4J modify the query with the following one :
    "SELECT * FROM ( " + ourQuery + " ) where 1=2;"
    so for the Query like "SELECT ename,ename from emp" which is a valid query it modifies it to
    "SELECT * FROM ( SELECT ename,ename from emp ) where 1=2;"
    which is an invalid Query and BC4J get a SQLException:column ambiguously defined and Test fails
    BC4J does this modification in query because it doesn't want to Fetch Data from Database and add the where clause
    to the query but in Cases like above this modification doesn't work properly.
    one way to solve the problem is by giving alias name to the columns of query.Is there any other way to do the same as my query is completely Valid and i don't want to change it at all ?

    Hi Jan,
    Actually I am getting my query at run time and based on that I am creating a view.This Query can be given by User of my application and at that time it'll be very painful for me to handle that.
    It's definately a Bug in BC4J as they should not modify the query in this way.Thanx for ur interest in my problem.

  • Modify existing query in Discoverer Report

    Hi,
    1) I want to put an outer join to the existing discoverer work sheet query. Is there any way I could do it.
    2) I am trying to modify the query by Export and Import options in the Discoverer Desktop and I am getting the below error. All I did was added (+) in the existing query
    Error: No EUL folders based on table AR_LOOKUPS found.
    was there any thing I am missing here?
    Thank you,
    Prashanth

    There seems to be a little confusion in the details mentioned.
    First check on which folder, Business Area is the report based on. Then is that folder a Sql folder or a table/view ?
    Then in the source you may have to change the code add outer joins etc., Not in the Discoverer Report.
    From what I think is export/import does not work in this scenario.

  • Different query for same view showing on different page as list view web part

    Hi all,
    If you have three pages and want to add Documents library as list view web part to these three pages with different query (Programmatically), Do you need to create three different views for Documents library or it is possible to have different query when
    I add the list view web part to the page?
    thanks and appreciate all kind of advice.

    When you add a List View Web Part to a page, SharePoint actually copies the selected view query into the Web Part itself. For example:
    You create a custom view on a list called "Mede71's View" and you configure it only show the Title column
    You add a List View Web Part to a page and update the settings to use the "Mede71's View"
    You go back to your list and change "Mede71's View" and add the "Modified Date" column
    Your List View Web Part will not reflect this change because in step 2 the Query from the view was copied into the List View Web Part
    When you programmatically add the List View Web Part, you can either assign it to an existing view or supply the query directly. If you want to instruct users to be able to add their own web parts pointing to those views in the future, I would recommend
    creating the views first.

  • VO Extension Error in modifying the query of XML Publisher Report Template

    Hi Friends,
    I have one requirement related to calling XML Publisher Reports Template from OAF Page.
    When clicking on the submit button the XML Publisher template is calling and displaying the data.
    Our requirement is to display some more columns in the XML Publisher Template and display the data.
    As according to OAF stndards,whenever we need to add new columns for display or SELECT purpose,
    we will do the VO Extension. So we modified the query by adding the new additional colums in the standard VO.
    I am able to retrieve the data from the SQL DEVELOPER. But when doing the VO Extension process and
    calling the template from the OAF page its throwing the following error.Please suggest me some alternatives
    to fix the issue.

  • Select query in materialized view with two dblinks

    Hi All,
    We have oracle 10g On windows.
    We are trying to create materialized view. Scenario is we have base table on other database and we are creating mview on different database.
    Basa database have two schema's and i am selecting records from that two schema's using two private db links.
    But when i am tryin gto create mview its not getting created. After 15 hrs. its still showing creation command and not finished.
    Query is :-
    Is it good practice to have two db links in select query of materialized view.

    If the former, you ideally want the local Oracle db to send the join to the remote database, and for the remote database to drive the join between those 2 tables. There is a hint (<i>driving_site</i>) that can be used - or the join query can be defined on the remote database as a view, and the local materialised view can then use that remote view.
    If you have 2 different db links and joining across these - usually a bad idea to perform distributed database joins. There are lots of limitations as to how the tables can be joined. Worse case, full table scans of both remote tables, pulling all the rows from the 2 remote database tables to the local database, and joining these on the local database.
    I have seen some severe performance issues in the past as a result of distributed joins. I'll rather use 2 materialised views for pulling both distributed tables's data locally, and then do the join on local data (using indexes, partition pruning, etc)Hi Billy,
    My scenario is i have two database database A and database B. Database A is having two schema's SCOTT AND HR. SCOTT schema have select privileges on HR schema.
    DB LINK is between Database B to Database A. name is db.link.B.A.oracle.com.
    What if i priovide while creating materialized view, the schema name before the table name in database B for this particuler table so it will pick up the table from that schema using same DB LINK(db.link.B.A.oracle.com.) that i am using to fetch records from SCOTT schema.
    Above schnario is like two base schema's and one db link using two schema.

  • Query SharePoint List View

    As per http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms434064.aspx if we use
    list.GetItems(query, view.ID.ToString("B").ToUpper());
    properties of the view that is specified by the viewName parameter override the properties that are specified in the query object that is passed through the query parameter. For example, if the query
    object includes a tag that specifies only items containing a particular column value, while the view specifies to return all items, this method retrieves all of the items
    So is there any way to query a sharepoint list view (not All Items) using CAML query?
    I this retrieving view in a data table and query it later, which is an option but might give a performance degradation.

    Hello,
    Did you try with SPView.Query method? If not then this can be query to specific view.

  • Snowflake dimension: named query vs. database view

    A test question features a Product table with a Product Size code; Product Size description is taken from ProductSize table. As far as I can tell, the question asks me to choose between (a) setting up a database view joining Product and ProductSize, and
    (b) doing the join in a data-source-view named query. I don't see a clear winner. (My thinking is as follows.  Yes, he view would speed up the processing, even if not materialized. On the other hand, with a small dataset, the performance gain would be
    minor in absolute terms. Do I want to have an extra database object in the picture?) Yet the question's author does. Can anyone advise please?

    Hi Demyan,
    According to your description, you want to know which is better, using named query in datasource view or using database view, right?
    Based on my research, there is no performance differences between using named query in datasource view and using database view because they both result in SQL query being sent to the source system. Here is a blog which discuss this issue.
    Consistency: If you already have logic in database views, I would continue to use them. As long as you know that you go to one spot to view/change the logic. Putting the logic in 2 different spots could lead to confusion.
    Security Permissions: often you may not have permission to alter the source databases, in this case you have no choice but to setup named queries in the dsv.

  • Is it possible the query in view object is dynamic?

    Is it possible the query in view object is dynamic?
    Generally, make the column list dynamic.
    I think this is related to whether view object can be assembled at runtime based on a dynamic cursor in a procedure?
    I ask this because I would like to know how we can use OA framework to simulate crosstab workbook in Discoverer?
    Anybody has some clues, please advise.
    Thanks.

    Hi Shay,
    Let me tell you briefly... I am sending input as customerId,customerNumber,CustomerName to the web service, if the record is available i am getting the response and i am displaying those records on page as a table. Now when i click a row i need to populate another table with all sale orders of that customer. From webservice datacontrol i have only customer object, I dont have Sales Order Object. For this i need master detail relation. In this case how to proceed. Thats why i am thinking to create a vO and EO object for sales orders table and i want to create view link for this sales order and customers. As i don't have customer VO and EO object to create view link.

  • Changing the query on a view object

    I have a view object right now, based on an entity. It is the default view object, so that means the query in the view object is straight forward, it grabs all of the attributes from the table. And there is no WHERE clause.
    In reality I only want to show a finite set of rows from my table. Every time a record is changed/edited in this entity and committed, a new row in the database is created with the same information (I'm using CreateWithParams) except for a few columns.
    I actually don't really have update on this table, just creation of new rows. But to the user, I want it to 'look' like they are editing something in the table.
    Example:
    12, 11:32,Thompson, 60 (the user edits this information in an adf table, and a new row is created in the db)
    12, 11:55, Thompson, 75
    I have a timestamp (see above) field in the database that is used as part of my primary key, so that I know which record is the latest.
    When the VO query is run, I want the user to only see the latest row from the db.
    12, 11:55, Thompson, 75
    So...
    I went to my VO, and I changed the WHERE query to add this:
    where t1.TimeStamp = (Select MAX(t2.TimeStamp) FROM rcl.x t2 where t1.uid = t2.uid);
    Now, this isn't a mysql/sql question. There's actually a better query that I'd rather run, but the VO editor doesn't allow me to change the query itself....
    When I save the new WHERE to my VO, run my page again, I get the expected result (showing me only the latest records).
    However, when I try and sort on the table in which my data is displayed, I am now getting ORDER BY errors.
    I don't want my VO to be read-only sql based. I want to be able to update my table, so I have my VO running off of the entity.
    Why doesn't the VO allow me to change the query itself? (Like do a subquery, instead of having my where clause do the work)
    Why are order by errors being thrown when I sort on my adf table after changing the where clause in my view?
    Hopefully I wasn't too convoluted in the explanation of my problem..
    Thanks in advance,
    Joel

    HI Joe,
    Regarding your problem you can do one of the following tasks:
    1- easily to tuning on your view object, I mean in the tuning page of the view you can set that only return 1 record or 2-3 record fetch not all the record.
    in the order by you will order by the timestamp field and descending.
    2- you can order by the timestamp descending and in the where clause only set the rownum<2 (will return the last record) you can also set rownum<5 and get the 4 last record etc.
    3-editing the view query in the expert mode is not advised at all because of many consequences that you will face.
    4- maybe it is not bat that you add a readonly view for the table you mentioned and every time you unpdate the entity just re-execute the read-only view.( this method maybe is good maybe is not it depends on your business logic)
    Regards.

  • Running a query in a View Designer results in an error, but running the same query in a Query window works

    Hi everyone,
    Just as my title says, I have a query which I've written in a query window and it works perfectly.
    But when I try to add the query code into the view designer, it throws a Syntax error.
    Error in ON clause near '('.Unable to parse query text.
    Also, when running the query from the view designer (pressing red exclamation mark) I get a different error.
    SQL Execution Error.Executed SQL statement: SELECT Sku, ParentSku, UPC, ...Error Source: .Net SqlClient Data ProviderError Message: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
    Has anyone else experienced this and is there any workaround?
    I have tried to create the view with T-SQL (CREATE VIEW etc.), but when opening it in the view designer I get the error from the 1st image.
    Thank you,
    Radu

    Hi Radu,
    Yes, I have faced similar issue. I had a View and it was working totally fine but when once I opened it in via right click - View Design, it was giving parse error.
    Cause is that Query designer parse and executes the query without error but the way View designer works, it can't parse it.
    Later I ignored View desinger and just used T-SQL like CREATE/ALTER view.
    Workaround is to do right click on View - Script View as - CREATE To/ ATER To.
    Regarding Timeout error, again the issue with View designer which couldn't execute query in there and ended up with timeout error.
    If your SELECT query and SELECT * FROM YourView works fine in Query designer, you are good to go.

  • How to modify search query based on new FE

    Hi,
    As per a requirement, in All Accounts search (advanced search section), I had to replace 5 checkboxes (e.g. Role1, Role2, Role3, Role4, Role5) by a single dropdown (codelist) name= "Account_Roles" containing same values (Role1, Role2, Role3, Role4, Role5). I created Customer's XBO and declared field of the codelist type, name= "Account_Roles". So, the XBO now has below 6 fields :
    Role1, Role2, Role3, Role4, Role5 (type = Indicator)
    Account_Roles                            (type = codelist)
    Existing search on All Accounts worked on the 5 checboxes and fetched those accounts for which the values matched.
    E.g.
    If in search parameters, I check Role1 & Role2, and for Account1, these values are stored as "true", then Account1 will be shown in the result list.
    Now the search UI doesn't have the checkboxes, but codelist ('Account_Roles') which can have value 'Role1'/'Role2'/'Role3'/'Role4'/'Role5' or combinations are also possible like 'Role1' OR 'Role2', etc..
    My question here is -
    Will the old search query that worked on indicator fields earlier, handle the new FE "Account_Roles" automatically ?
    If not, then will modification be required to existing search query ?
    If modification is required, what steps I need to follow to handle this new field instead of checkboxes.
    I need exact steps to modify a search query, as I tried several things in the PDI but was not able to confirm if this requirement can be implemented by modifying search query or it is not feasible from PDI perspective.
    Appreciate all your inputs.
    Thanks,
    Sachin.

    Hi,
    you can create a link between the vendor objects itself, means link 0vendor with 0ven_compc and 0ven_purorg. This should give you a list of all vendors multiplied with the comp codes multiplied with the purch. org. May be here it is possible to create another link between a attribute (eg. comp_code of 0ven_purorg with comp_code of 0ven_compc). In case it is not possible you need to add this link information somehow. Another option might be to create 2 queries. One on a infoset of 0vendor and 0ven_purorg and another one on 0vendor and 0ven_compc.

  • Passing an argument in the SQL Query of a View Object

    Hi,
    It is possible that this question has been asked before, however I have searched for a half an hour in the forums and couldn't find a solution.
    I am also new to using JDeveloper and ADF. Here's the situation:
    I am developing an application that doesn't have to do anything else then displaying data from a database. Pretty straightforward actually.
    Now I have made a vew pages with several collapsible panels (af:showDetailHeader) and have setup the datasources (or so I thought).
    All that remains is:
    - drag & drop a view object, from the application module that I created, onto the collabsible panels, so a child element gets created which displays data from the database.
    - hack the layout so it looks like I want it to.
    The problem that I have is the following:
    I am using a 'User'-class that contains values I need when quering the database.
    That User-object is part of a user-session.
    What I want, for example, is to use the 'getPersonId()' function of that User-object and pass the argument to a SQL-query of a certain view-object.
    The query would become something like:
    'SELECT * FROM people WHERE people.personId = :someNumber'.
    Now I've read some stuff about variable binding, which is complemented by something like (backing bean code):
    getDBTransaction().getRootApplicationModule().getACertainViewObject().setWhereClauseParameter(1, user.getPersonId());
    The examples I have found that might match my wishes are not using business components, but EJB's. I am having difficulty with understanding the 'how'-part of variable binding.
    Also, I do not know enough of ADF to be able to create a situation like:
    'User loads page, collapsible panel 1 is fully shown, the others are undisclosed.'
    (meaning, that for panel1 a query has been executed.)
    'User clicks on collapsible panel 2 which triggers a backingbean that somehow retrieves data from a view object'.
    I would appreciate any help that somebody can give.
    If it is not too much of a problem, please provide code snippets in case you have a solution. I am new to ADF :(.
    -edit
    I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0 in case that is of any importance.

    Hello Stijn,
    I didn't think about a referenced bean rule in the faces-config.
    I added it right away and I am now able to set parameters of a View-object, not using a page button and before the page loads. You made my day!
    In case anyone ever reads this post again, the summary of how to generate a table based on a View-object using dynamic parameters.:
    1a: Go to faces-config.xml -> Overview tab'
    1b: Go to the menuitem "Referenced Beans"
    1c: Click on 'new' and select the existing bean you want to access data from and input a name. In this example I use name="user"
    2: Create a View-object using the wizard.
    2a: Specify the query you want in the menuitem 'SQL Statement'.
    Add the 'parameters' you want to. You will have something like:
    "SELECT * FROM someTable WHERE table.columnname LIKE :someArgument".
    - hint: if you want the result to become something like:
    "SELECT * FROM someTable WHERE table.columnname LIKE '%someArgument%'" then you have to add the '%'-characters in your code itself (read: someClass.setParameter("%" + someArgument);).
    2b: In the menuitem 'Bind Variables' you have to add the variables you are referring to in the query. If you look at the query in 2a, then you have to add a variable with name "someArgument".
    2c: Add the View-object to a Application Module (create one if nessecairy).
    3a: Open a .jsp(x) file. Drag the View-object created in step 2 from the 'Data Controls'-pane to the page.
    3b: Click on the '+' of the View-object in the 'Data Controls'-pane and open 'Operations' and drag 'ExecuteWithParams' to your page as a button.
    3c: We do not want to use a button, the action has to be executed immediatly. So In the page source remove the lines that were created after dropping 'ExecuteWithParams'.
    3d: Right-click on the page and select "Go to Page Definition".
    3e: Go to the action id that is called 'ExecuteWithParams#', where # is a number.
    Change the id to something useful.
    3f: Change the NDValue so it corresponds with the value you want.
    Example:
    <action id="getAddressData" IterBinding="AddressesView1Iterator"
    InstanceName="MyHRServiceModuleDataControl.AddressView1"
    DataControl="MyHRServiceModuleDataControl" RequiresUpdateModel="true" Action="95">
    <NamedData NDName="someArgument" NDType="java.lang.String"
    NDValue="#{user.personId}"/>
    </action>
    Note: It is possible to use the value of a Backing Bean in NDValue.
    Note 2: user is the bean I referred to in the faces-config.xml!
    3g: Under the executables item, add an 'invokeAction' to pass the parameter to the View-object before your JSP-file loads:
    <executables>
    <invokeAction Binds="getAddressData"
    id="loadAddressDataOfPersonIdInSession"
    Refresh="prepareModel"/>
    Thank Stijn Haus for this :)

  • Select query written on view giving dump

    Hi All,
    I have written the following query on COAS view in my code:
          SELECT aufnr bukrs INTO TABLE gt_aufnr
            FROM coas
              WHERE
                    aufnr IN r_aufrm AND
                    auart IN s_auart AND
                    autyp = c_autyp_01 AND
                    kokrs = c_kokrs_mbca.
    When records in range r_aufrm are too many like 6000 or so it gives me a run time error on this query - DBIF_RSQL_INVALID_RSQL. Error description says size of select query is large.
    Question : Is this bug coming because I am using the view. If i select the records on table AUFK (only table on which the view is created), will it rectify the problem?? I am asking this because it's in production and I cant make any change and test then and there.
    Note: the range r_aufrm contains two types of records for AUFNR - 1. with sign GE and others with sign LE. So I cannot use for all entries. If I still can, please tell me how?
    Thanks a looot!
    Waiting for the response,
    Navita

    Thanks All!!
    I think, this range limit has caused the problem. Range limit is 999 records.
    Just one question I have. At runtime when I check the number of entries in r_aufrm in the query, I get 6000 entries. So, does it allow 6000 records to enter the range variable even if it has a limit of 999. Is it the case that, in select query only it will throw a dump if records in range exceed 999??
    SELECT aufnr bukrs INTO TABLE gt_aufnr
    FROM coas
    WHERE
    aufnr IN r_aufrm AND
    auart IN s_auart AND
    autyp = c_autyp_01 AND
    kokrs = c_kokrs_mbca.
    Please clear my doubt.
    Thanks a lot for ur help!!!!

  • Query on Materialized view and materialized view log

    I am creating a materialized view something like this.but getting following error:

    SQL> create snapshot log on scott.emp;

    ERROR at line 1:

    Note when i have my query in materialized view as "select * from emp;" in place of
    "select deptno,sum(sal) sum_sal from scott.emp group by deptno;" This code works fine.
    How do i have a materialized with with a group by clause.
    Thanks in Advance

    Got the answer myself.
    I wasnt adding all the required columns.
    CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW LOG ON scott.emp
    WITH SEQUENCE, ROWID (<all the required columns>)
    INCLUDING NEW VALUES;
    Anyways,
    Thanks guys...
