Modify hard coded array to database pull
Hello all,
I'm new to the array stuff, and am having problems finding a tutorial or instructions on how to modify a hard coded array to something pulled from a database. I can only find tutorials on how to do it hardcoded. They keep saying it is possible, but never say how to do it. The original tutorial that I'm trying to learn which brought up this question can be found at: http://www.brandspankingnew.net/archive/2007/02/ajax_auto_suggest_v2.html
So as an example, if I've got the database connection already established as:
$con = mysql_connect("localhost", "root", "") or die('Could not connect to server');
mysql_select_db("my_database", $con) or die('Could not connect to database');
With fields as my_database_names, my_database_ratings, and my_database_images; how do I modify the below code to use the database information instead of using the hardcoded array? Any suggestions (or letting me know of where a good tutorial is) would be appreciated.
<?php
note:
this is just a static test version using a hard-coded countries array.
normally you would be populating the array out of a database
the returned xml has the following structure
<results>
<rs>foo</rs>
<rs>bar</rs>
</results>

Thank you so much. I was planning on hand coding it because my objective is to learn, not to have dreamweaver do it for me, so I will check out the link :
http://docs.php.net/manual/en/mysqli.query.php.
LOL, I thought I was just starting to understand MySQL, and now I've got to start learning MySQLi. I hope there is not too much different between the two. Thanks again.

Hi All,
I am trying to load shape file into a sql spatial table. A execution process task is used to run the ogr2ogr.exe program.
This is how the process tab looks like .
Executable : C:\gdal_ogr2ogr\bin\gdal\apps\ogr2ogr.exe
Argument : -f MSSQLSpatial MSSQL:server=SQL-ABC-DEV;database=MYSIMPLE_Dev;Trusted_Connection=True;\\mypath\files\shares\Data\www.mypage.htm\my_sample_file.shp
Success value : 1
For above settings, package runs fine. The spatial table is created in SQL server db. However when hard-coded SQL server name and database name are replaced with global variables , the spatial table is not created in the database. Yet the package runs fine.
It does not throw any errors. (I am using another variable for full file path. It is not causing any errors though)
" -f MSSQLSpatial MSSQL:server="+@[$Project::SQLServerName]+";database="+ @[$Project::DatabaseName] +";Trusted_Connection=True;"+ @[User::Filepath] + "\\my_sample_file.shp"
Both variables are string type. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong here please?
I am running this in VS 2012.
Thanks for your help in advance..
shamenThere should be a single space just after True:
before
" -f MSSQLSpatial MSSQL:server="+@[$Project::SQLServerName]+";database="+ @[$Project::DatabaseName] +";Trusted_Connection=True;"+ @[User::Filepath] + "\\my_sample_file.shp"
after keeping the space
" -f MSSQLSpatial MSSQL:server="+@[$Project::SQLServerName]+";database="+ @[$Project::DatabaseName] +";Trusted_Connection=True; "+ @[User::Filepath] + "\\my_sample_file.shp"
Thanks

Best way to deal with hard coded variables in a package
There is a plsql package that reads a line from a file, parses the data, does a ton of sql operation with it (select update, inserts, calculations) and then writes the output to an output file.
The file names and the firectories are retieved from a database table.
Example:
select location,file_name into loc_in,file_in from temp_tbl;
p_File_handle := utl_file.fopen (loc_in, file_in, 'W');
My co worker is suggesting that getting the variable values from the table is not a good practice. He suggests that the values should be hard-coded in the program. Now you might ask what would happen if the file name or directory changes. His suggestion is to have a build file and do a token substitution of those hard coded values in the program and then load in to the DB. In short the process will involve the following steps:
-Get the package from the repostory.
-Change the file name and directory in the token file.
-Run the build process that will replace the values in the package .
-Load the new file (with the updated values) in to the DB.
Example:
This way the program will be initially coded like this:
p_File_handle := utl_file.fopen ('${loc_in}', '${file_in}', 'W');
After the build file runs, it will replace the values as
p_File_handle := utl_file.fopen ('C:/test', 'testfile.dat', 'W');
Once the file has changed with the new updated values, compile that into the database.
Ideas/comments?Re: Best way to deal with hard coded variables in a package: why have you reposted using a new profile?
Neither post provides enough clear information on what the actual requirement is. We need more data in order to comment on your idea, your co-worker's, or to suggest alternatives.
My co worker is suggesting that getting the variable
values from the table is not a good practice.His reasons for this are...?
"variable values": Why do they vary? How often do they change?
The file names and the directories are retrieved from
a database table.How do the values get into the table? What is the volume of the data?

How to mention User specific fileshare as Hard coded value in DB table
I have a scenario like whenever the user clicks on Print, the application will generate a temp file Temp.txt and place it in fileshare location that is given in Database hard coded value as C:\Test, The problem here is when more than one user clicks on print button, the second user is getting error, as the same file is being used by first user.
To save the temp file, I want to mention a locaton something like "C:\Documents and Settings\<User Id>" where <user Id> will be '0001' for user one and '0002' for user two. (0001 and 0002 are suppose to be the user login name within the organisation). Is there anyway to specify the user id of the active user as a hard coded value?take the output of select user from dual; in a variable and then append that either with file name or with directory location..

Hi Experts
we have a requirement, Users is created in OIM through trusted Recon. For all the users created through recon, certain attributes need to be hard coded (these attributes are not present in Trusted source) and LDAP sync is also enabled in our environment. so these attributes should be updated with user creation only.
I want to know various options of achieving this requirement
Any help appreciated.
Regards
A AbhinayThanks for reply
We need to pass this values to OID through LDAP sync for recon users only.
We tried with post process event handler

Hard-coded playlist XML url into Flashvar?
Hey All,
So right now, I have a video player that pulls in all sorts
of info (flv url, caption file url, video title, description,
preview image, etc.) through an external xml file (playlist.xml).
It works great, but I need to change the coding so it's not
hard-coded into the FLA, rather from the embed code for the swf.
Any idea how I can do this?
Here's the chunk of AS3 code that's involved in the original
loading of the XML data as well as the html text too.
Thanks!
JoeI tried the solution here:
http://www.actionscript.org/forums/showthread.php3?t=185370
But couldn't get it to work... Still looking.

Hard coded text in SAP include
Hi,
I am using Logical database in my program(PNP). in that there is one hard coded text. which is caught in extended program check as an error. can we fix this? without having access key?
that hard coded text present in standard include.Why fix it? The enhanced program checker isn't perfect. The "error" is harmless.

Rolling Fiscal YR reporting - trying to eliminate hard-coding
Hello,
I'm trying to create an embedded report that shows sales order history for only the current fiscal year. The only way I've been able to get the report to run correctly is by hard-coding the dates, but I'm trying to get away hard-coding. I've tried YEAR(invoice date) = YEAR(current_date), but this shows calendar year. I've also tried YEAR(Invoice Date) = valueof(NQ_SESSION.CURRENT_YEAR), but this pulls all dates b/c it is a session report.
Is all date fields in analytics mapped to custom fiscal years set by Oracle? And, if it does map, then can anyone give an example of case statement or function to try?
Thanks.Thanks: I did post to the OpenSource projects forum over there. Would it be appropriate in the general announcements as well?

Parse schema name - Avoiding hard-coded schema names
Hi all,
I have been trying to find a similar thread but had no luck. I want to avoid hard-coding schema names in my reports. I have tried to use a Substitution string but I don't seem to be able to reference it by just doing :default_schema. I already reference the parsing schema like this: #OWNER# which is saving me a lot of time. Is there any way to create additional variables like that one instead of those substitution strings that can't be parsed in a query?
Thanks a lot for your help.

Will you actually get any benefit from using substitution strings? They are also hard-coded at design time. You could use application items if you need something dynamic.
Bind variable syntax (:default_schema) will not work for lexical substitution of substitution string and application item values in report queries. You have to use static text (&DEFAULT_SCHEMA.) references (and be aware of the potential for SQL injection that this exposes).
I wouldn't recommend using schema qualifiers directly in APEX applications. I would use grants, synonyms and views at the database level. -

Log Message:
fix air-config.xml so that there are no hard-coded values for the build number. This gets updated from the root build.xml by using a combination of a value from build.properties, release.version, and a value passed into build.xml build.number.
partial fix for sdk-15812
Ticket Links:
http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/sdk-15812
Modified Paths:
flex/sdk/branches/3.0.x/frameworks/air-config.xmlI need to add just one more thing and that is on battery life. Last night I sat with the rMBP on my lap installing software, surfing the web, answering emails for close to 4 and 1/2 hours. At the point I took it back to the charger it still was showing a computed battery time remaining of 3.5 hours.
Today I had two VMs open and took the machine of the charger and sat outside with my dogs for about 30 minutes. During this time I was working in both VMs, editing and compiling code. My battery life estimate showed a good solid 4 hours.
This is roughly 6 times greater than what I had with my 2010 MBP and it too had a SSD. I am not sure why but this retina MBP just seems to not work as hard doing anything that caused my 2010 MBP to struggle.
While the battery life is certainly better than I expected it is clear that load can change that very rapidly. So I think I still need to visit clients with an external battery or charger in hand. But I don't think I will be quite so scared that my laptop will simply run out of power before I can even get it plugged in. -
Native SQL Performance Difference Between Hard-Coded Value and Parameter
Hi,
I have a native SQL (Oracle) query (fairly long & complex with a few sub-queries) that returns in under a second in both ODSI and using an external SQL tool. This query has a hard-coded value for a particular column, namely, a date column.
When I modify the ODSI function signature so that I pass in a parameter and then replace the hard-coded value in the native SQL with the appropriate parameter binding notation (i.e. '?'), the query takes much longer (2-30 seconds). The duration of the query depends on how many records are actually returned, so it must be running a separate query for each of the results (i.e. the more results returned, the longer the query takes to return).
What can I do to keep the duration of my ODSI query low while allowing for the parameter?OSDI plan with date parameter:
