Motion control using MCU 28stage controller of Zeiss

Hi,
Does any one know how to control Z axis motion using MCu 28 stage controller of Zeiss, with/without LabVIEW. I am working in the windows environment. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks
Deepak

Hello Deepak,
The MCu 28 stage controller by Zeiss should have a driver that will control it. The driver will be developed and managed by Zeiss.
- If the driver is a .dll that you can make function calls to, then LabVIEW has the ability to make calls to the .dll.
- A .dll can be accessed by most programming environments (C, C++, Visual Basic... & LabVIEW).
If you do not have access to the driver for the controller, then you will need to follow up with Zeiss.
If you are wanting a significantly easier motion controller to integrate into your application, National Instruments offers a variety of Motion Controllers (www.ni.com/motion).
- If you have any specific questions regarding upgrading or making .dll calls from LabVIEW, then please contact National Instruments
at 1800 IEEE 488.

  • Is it possible to do motion control using Lookout

Is it possible to use activeX controls in Lookout for controlling nuDrive motor drive?

    Hi,
This doesn't directly answer your question.. but will hopefully give you some ideas to explore. It's more of me thinking aloud..
Are you familiar with NI's Datalogging and Supervisory Control (DSC) module for LabVIEW? This is an excellent solution for projects involving both, a high number of IO points in an industrial setting and for high-speed measurement and acquisition. You have the benefits of LabVIEW, like DAQ, Motion and Vision, and at the same time have the Supervisory Control features like alarms, historical logging, security, networking, etc., that you want from Lookout. You can get more info' on DSC from:
    http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?cid=10418〈=US
I strongly recommend you take a look into this as a solution if your project i
nvolves Motion along with high number of IO points.
However, if you HAVE TO use Lookout, another approach would be to use DSC in combination with Lookout. Let the DSC module address Motion issues, and it (DSC) being an OPC Server, can be in turn communicated with Lookout (as an OPC Client).
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,

  • Homing switch causing motion control problems

I am controlling a dome for a telescope. I have a home position switch and motion control using one of NI's motion controllers. Everything works fine except for one bug. The dome just goes around and around. I can run a Home type reference search and it works fine. But if I command a position that runs through the home switch zone the dome stops moving. If I hit the command a second time it runs right to the correct position.
So why does the home switch stop the motion if I am not doing a reference search. Should I be using some other form of referencing?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Do you have the home switch also configured as a limit switch?
What motion hardware are you using.  In addition to home limits, the ni cards often have a + limit and - limit and also a software limit, these can be configured via the api or in max.

    Hi Patrick,
The reason why the Motion Control examples will not work for you is beacuse they are meant to be used with the NI Motion boards. Since you are using DAQ boards, the examples are probably not going to be able to help you too much. However, there is one example on the community that might be a place for you to start.

What exactly do you mean by this? What do you want in the case structure or while loop?

  • How can I use flex motion control VI without hardware?

I would like to try and simulate the motion control of my system before i hook up the motion control card. But when I use the VI in flex motion contro took kit it asks for address or something and gives me an error. Can't I just simulate without hardware?

    Hello,
The only way you can use FlexMotion without any hardware is to set it up as Open Loop Stepper Control. Otherwise, you will get errors when no encoder signal is fed back to the controller.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.

  • Motion control: PXI 7350 controller and UMI 7774 to interface with third-party driver UDK5114NW2

    Dear community,
This is about Motion control in Labview: I try to control a step motor by using a PXI 7350 controller and UMI 7774 to interface with  third-party driver UDK5114NW2. The problem is 5 Disable LEDS on UMI 7774 board always lit even when I check "enable" on "Motion I/O setting" in configuration of PXI 7350 motion controller. Furthermore, when I start to control step motor, it is not working and I found disable LED on UMI board still lit. I don't know how to solve this problem. Can someone help me to figure out? Thank you in advance!

    Dear Community,
I said wrong, 4 disable LEDS on UMI 7774 Board instead of 5 as my previous post. Why nobody help me to solve this problem. I can not turn off disable LEDs on UMI 7774 Board so I can not start the strp motor. Please help me!

  • Tension control in labview using PCI 7354 Motion Control Board

I want to make a program for web tension control of roll to roll system in labview using PCI 7354 Motion Control Board. Is there any interface program that can convert my controller output in a format to be directly used as the input of PCI 7354 (Motion Controller Board) for tension control?
    Thank you!

thanks for your reply, i have already make the code of a straight line move and the motor moves successfully, but know i want to put the H-bridge to be able to make a reverse direction for the motor, for your information i only use a PCI-7340 controller and a UMI-7774, where the controller connected to the UMI-7774, the UMI connected to a PWM circuit and the PWM connected to the DC-motor, so what do you think i can do?

  • Is it possible to condition a load cell signal with a 1520 SCXI and then use it as the primary analog feedback for a 735X motion control board?

    My system
    PXI 1052 chassis
    PXI 8196 RT controller
    Flexmotion 7356 motion controller
    Flexmotion 7354 motion controller
    6259 M series DAQ
    1520 SCXI
    1520 SCXI
1314 SCXI frount mounting terminal block
    DSM strain gage load cells
    Exlar SR Brushless PM motors
Kollmorgen servo star CD series 5 drives
    My objective:
I want to measure the force on the load cells with the 1520 SCXI (i.e. excite the load cell then amplify and condition its output) then I want to use this analog (force) signal as the primary feedback for my motion control system (7356 and 7354 motion controller connected to my drives and motors).
    The problem:
The motion controller boards (7356 and 7354) can be configured for force feedback control via analog feedback from a load cell.  However the boards implicitly expect the load cell signal to be amplified and conditioned with and external signal conditioner rather then using an NI SCXI module.  Currently I’m am reading the SCXI signals via the 6259 M seriers DAQ and consequentially have no way to route the signal into the 735X boards for force feedback control.  I can use softmotion to control the motors but then I loose the fast PID update rates possible with the 735X boards.
    The question:
Is it possible to condition a load cell signal with a 1520 SCXI and then use it as the primary analog feedback for a 735X motion control board?

    Hi GG,
    Thank you for your feedback.
    >create your own external circuitry to amplify the signal.>
True a few op-amps could amplify and filter the signal externally but the performance of such an amateur built system will never match the accuracy and functionality of the 1520 SCXI.  That’s why we spent the $2500 for the professional version.
    >One thing that you could do is to use a UMI with your motion controller and then wire your signal from your SCXI to the UMI.>
As I understand it the UMI is basically a break out connectivity interface for third party drives.  After conditioning and amplifying the analog force signal with the SCXI module the analog signal isn’t available to wire into a UMI.  To my knowledge the conditioned signal of the SCXI resides only in the PXI backplane (i.e. there is no physical access to the conditioned analog signal).  Can you explain how the UMI could be help here.
Again thanks for your input GG.

  • Is it possible to do torque control using Flex Motion?

I am trying to control the output torque to a motor?
I know you can do velocity control using FlexMotion, how about torque control?

To hold a servo motor at constant torque, all you need to do is provide a constant voltage. You can accomplish this using the analog output (DAC) of a FlexMotion board. To gain access to the DAC, configure the axis as an open loop stepper, then use the Load DAC.flx VI to output an analog voltage. The downside to this is that you won't have feedback, so you'll have no way to determine your position.

  • Dynamic force control using linear servo actuator + load cell

    Hello,
I am designing a test fixture which will allow us to test the performance of actuators we install in our products. I need to apply a constant load to the actuator while it is extending/retracting. I would like to be able to use a linear servo actuator and a load cell on the same axis as the UUT to provide and monitor the load. The actuator under test does not travel at high speeds, its max speed is approximately 1in./sec.
I need to be able to maintain a constant load while the actuator is moving. Therefore  I'll need some kind of closed loop system to maintain a velocity such that the load being reported from the load cell is equal to the expected load as the actuator is moving.
I am trying to figure out how to best implement this in a cost effective and time-saving way. I have not purchased any hardware at the moment so am open to suggestions. We do have LabView 2009 with all the toolkits. Would it be best to implement this using a motion controller card or would I be able to get good results using a standard DAQ?

As you have stated correctly, you will need a deterministic closed loop system to accomplish this task. The most cost efficient while reliable solution for this purpose is a motion control board like the PCI-7352. This board provides quadrature encoder inputs for positioning tasks and analog inputs for any other type of control. Torque/force control is a very typical task for this board and it provides a simple API and useful configuration tools.
If cost savings are a primary goal, you could also use a PCI-7342, but for your application I would recommend the PCI-7352, as the PCI-7342 provides only 12-bit ADCs, while the PCI-7352 provides 16-bit ADCs, resulting in a much better resolution of your force feedback signal.
    I hope that helps,

  • Simple straight line motion control with brushless motor and encoder/microswitch

I want to go build a motion control system/program using labview. I have a brushless motor and a controller and a National instrument DAC (NI USB-6009). This is how my system looks like: receive an input signal 4-20mA, this should be converted to 0-5V for the controller for speed, controller should move motor till it hits micro switch. The micro switch/encoder should generate a signal (5V) back to shut the controller. I want to record the position of the motor in labview. How do I do this? How do I set the system up? Thank you in advance

    Controller from anaheimautomation: MDC151-050301
    Motor:BLWSG234D-36V-4000-R3
    Controller and motor go together.
The input signal for the system will be 4-20mA. Using this signal I will correlate it to a specific voltage which will drive the speed of the motor. This will displace the lead screw linearly. I will have a microswitch that will be triggered by screw and will relay a signal to shut the motor. I want find a way to record the position of the shaft/leadscrew at that specific point. I want to identify a home position, halfway position and full length travel position. I will use 3 swiches or 1 switch in three positions to identify all these points.
My end result should be whwn I turn on the system or start the program It should detect whether it is at the home position, if not travel to home then respond accordigly given an input signal(4-20mA).
How will I program such on labview...finding all the right icons to record the data is such a mess for me since i'm a beginner.
    Thanks

  • PWM in Motion Control

    HI All,
I am facing a problem in Motion Controller.
We are using PCI 7344 and UMI 7774.
Now their is a connector on the Motion control card for Digital I/O.
In this Pin No 5 and Pin No9 are PWM1 and PWM2 respectively. Now I have used to VI PWm duty and config PWM. I am seeing the PWM waveform on CRO.But to my surprise the output is not matching the required data.
IF you go for HElp and click config PWM VI block , you can see a table given where the internal clock selected corresponds to a particular frequency in 734X and 735X.Now since I am using 7344 my frequency should match with 734X table , whereas this is not happening and
my frequency matches the table of 735X.
SO i am bit confused about the controller specs or is someor the other way Iam missing some thing more.

    Manish,
please have a look at this table which comes with the NI Motion function help file for NI-Motion 7.2. This table should contain the correct values. The latest revisions of the 734x are named 7340 and the PWM output should follow this table.
