Moving automator input windows to frontmost position

Is there any way of specifying an automator input dialog be placed in the frontmost position? At the moment, several of these inputs pop up behind other windows, so I have no idea that they are there. Seems like a curious behaviour to even allow, let alone be the default action!

Dialogs won't appear if the application they are from is not currently in front (active). If you are running the workflow from Automator, you can use the Launch Application action to make Automator the active application.

  • Automator - bring input window to front

    Hi,
I found an Automator Service that allows you to set a keyboard shortcut to move a selected file in the finder. (see here.) It mostly works, except that the input window that the Automator workflow opens appears behind the selected finder window. I found a discussion here on the Apple forums describing a trick to use an Apple Script, but this isn't working for me either.
If anyone has any advice on setting the focus on the input window, I'd appreciate it. It kind of defeats the point of a keyboard shortcut if you have to use the mouse to select the input window.
    Thanks,
    Tom R.

Or if you wish, you can replace all of your actions with the following single Run AppleScript action. Specify the posix path of "Sorted Abstracts" folder in variable d.
    on run {input, parameters}
--set d to "/path/to/Sorted Abstracts" as POSIX file
set d to (path to desktop)'s POSIX path -- for test
        tell application "SystemUIServer"
            activate
set dst to choose folder with prompt "Choose a Destination" default location d
        end tell
tell application "Finder" to move input to dst
    end run
Service workflow will look like this:

  • Can Track Automation Be Locked to SMPTE Position?

Hello all! My question, for the most part, is in the subject field. Can track automation be locked to smpte position? I just did hours worth of track automation edits, locked all my regions to SMPTE position, then changed the tempo to better fit the underlying music only to find out that my automation didn't follow the locked regions. Bad news!! Does anyone know if there's a solution to this problem?
    Thanks in advance!

    Sup,
it would never work with the Regions Locked to SMPTE.
Solution: without going thru details, just unlock the regions then do your tempo change.

  • Some programs won't remember window size and position

I have a couple programs, notably ComicNerd, that won't ever seems to remember window size or position from quit to restart. I can't seems to find any evidence other people are having the same problem with the program, so I assume it's something wrong with my computer. Anyone have any idea how I can fix this? Is there some permissions problem or something?

It's likely a corrupted Preference file
Look in your Users/Library/Preferences folder for  .plist file with ComicNerd in it and just move it to your desktop and restart the program/computer.
The preference file should rebuild itself, so look for it and if it's in the Preference folder then delete the one on the  desktop.
You also might want to run ALL the cleaning and maintenance aspects of the free OnyX and reboot.
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/
the Verify > preference (show only corrupted) should also help locate other corrupted .plist (Preference) files for similar action like you did above.

  • Producer Consumer & User Events with user input windows

    Hello All,
I am planning to build Labview code using the Producer Consumer & User events pattern, the application needs multiple user input windows for things like personal data, feature selection etc, there could be around 15 or 20 distincts screen/panels required.
The main question from me is... Is there a best practive approach to navigating/loading from one window to another etc, and also providing a way to to retrun to the previous window.
Also I may need need to be running some slow logging and control hardware in the background while navigating some of the screens, this seems like the producer consumer vi will be running in the background while the user input causes a load/display window event.
A simple Producer Consumer multiple winjdoow example would be very welcome. Thanks.
    Regards Chris

I will second Mike's suggestion to use a central VI with subpanel(s).  It is usually less confusing than multiple windows.  Typically, the selection/navigation mechanism is on the left of the main panel, global info (like help) on the right, and the subpanel(s) in the center.
The advantage of subpanels/subVIs is that you can launch your subVIs and keep them active in the background, even though they are not being used.  This means they will keep their state information and load into the subpanel almost instantaneously the next time you need them.  For a short tutorial on subpanels, check out this link.  Scroll down to the fourth reply for working code.  The original code posted is broken.
Communication between your VIs or loops is typically done with either queues or event structures.  State information in each should be shift registers in the respective VIs.  If you have the time, I would highly recommend you learn how to use LabVIEW classes.  The command pattern is tailor made for this kind of application.
Finally, avoid global data if you can.  Global data is anything that you can get to from anywhere (globals, functional globals, etc.).  Use of these can speed your development, but can also lead to sloppy design which will cause you major problems later.  If you really need globally available data, use a data value reference.  It is unnamed and requires a reference, which tends to enforce better programming practice.  Yes, there are instances where you truly need globally available, named data, but they are fairly rare.  You should only use them if you are experienced and really know what you are doing.

  • I have just moved from using Windows all my life to Mac OS Lion. My accounting software "Tally" does not run on it. Please help !

I have just moved from using Windows all my life to buying a Mac Book Pro running on OS Lion. But my accounting softwares Tally 7.2 and Tally 9 do not run on it.
I just learnt that the software platform of Tally Accounting softwares are specific to Windows only.
I need to run the accounting software, Mail and several spread sheets and documents at the same time.
Is there some way I can do this on the Mac Lion OS?
    Help solicited !

Yes, you can share files across a network as long as the network server is setup so your Mac can connect to it. See Mac OS X 10.7 Help: Connect to shared computers and file servers on a network, Mac OS X 10.7 Help: Connect your Mac directly to a Windows computer, Mac OS X 10.7 Help: Connect to a Mac from a Windows computer, and Mac OS X 10.7 Help: Connect to shared computers and servers using a network address.

  • InDesign forgets window size and position when opening

PC with Windows 7, CS 2014.
I set up Illustrator so that it does not open full screen (I have a 27" monitor) so that I can have panels permanently open around the edges. Close Illustrator and re-open it and it remembers the last set window position.
InDesign remembers the position of the open panels but opens the main window full screen every time, and it's really annoying having to resize and reposition the main window every time I load InDesign.
I upgraded from an earlier version of Adobe CS and that older version of InDesign remembered the window size and position. Why did this change?
    Can this be fixed please?

From the InDesign top menu have you tried going to Window/Application Frame to put the application in it's own resizable frame? That will hold the window to the same size each time you open an InDesign file.

  • Finder windows size and position etc.  on clients' machines

How to configure server's finder windows size and position etc. are on clients' machines so that they persist? Thank you!
PS: If this has already been discussed, please refer to the thread. Sorry for double post in that case.

Try connecting to the Share as the Server Admin, make your window the size and position you want and logout again.

  • Edit Window's Fixed Position Causing Problems

Once I've selected text to print and click the Edit button, the edit window opens on my primary (left) monitor (I'm using 2 monitors with the browser on my (right) second monitor) UNDER the Taskbar which is positioned at the top of the left monitor.  Because the Edit window is fixed, I can't resize it; can't move it; can't access any of the tools in the window (because they're hidden under the Taskbar)!!
Why can't the Edit Window "honor" the position of the Taskbar?  At least, allow me to resize or move the window to another position onscreen.

The web is not yet read for this. I wouldn't use it.

    Hi
    1. In comp controller  in wdDoInit I get the list of countries and write them to a local node.
    2. This node is mapped to a view in a different window.
    3. When I press enter,  a pop up window is created. The values mapped from the comp controller to this view are presented to
the user in a nice table.
    4. When the user selects a line  in the table, the method writes back the value to my input field.
        Quite straight forward.
The problem is  that when the user enters a valid name into the input field before even pressing "Enter" the framework
returns "entry is not in the set of values".
    Frustrating.
    regards

  • We just moved from a Windows server to a Mac server with our Macs -problem!

We just moved from a Windows server to a Mac server with our Mac Network!!!
    Problem:
Now, when we create files from our personal computers, no one else can write them. We can all read these files, but when we make changes we have to save a version! This wasn't happening on the Windows server, so I can only guess that it's a setting on the Mac? (G4 Laptop running 10.4.5)
Can anyone help me figure out what setting needs to be changed?
Thank you very much in advance!
    -Alex

This is normal behavior, and is a result of the POSIX umask. Newly created files have their POSIX permissions (owner, group, and everyone fields) set such that only the owner can read and write.
The best way to solve this problem is to use an ACL entry to define desired permissions for a folder, specifying inheritance (e.g., permissions apply to this folder and any newly-created files or folders inside of that).
Please see my ACL Tips version 2 link for more information, including a more detailed explanation of POSIX and ACL permissions and how they work together: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1732788

  • Software to restore apps window size and position after change in screen resolution

    I use a 27' iMac'10 with SL 10.6.8, running it at 2560x1440 screen resolution.
Whenever I have to attend meetings via GoToMeeting or Webex and need to present, the resolution is too high, since most participants are on 15' laptops or even iPad's these days.  Therefore, I reset the screen resolution to 1600x900 for the time of the presentation.
After the meeting is over, I reset the resolution back to 2560x1440.
Problem: After the reset, all my apps are scaled and out of place, so I need to manually reset them to their original sizes and positions.  I use Divvy to make this a bit less painful, but still it's a manual chore.
Is there any software out there that let's me restore my windows to the exact settings they were the last time before I changed screen resolution?

I agree, the ability to remember window sizes and positions when switching between laptop and using the Thunderbolt display would be very useful.  It's like your Mac remembering the volume level depending on whether you have headphones plugged in or not.
