Moving IWEB from one MacBook to MacBook Pro

Hello - Just purchased new MacBook Pro. I was told to buy the firewall cable and just push "T" and everything would transfer. This was not really true. Things ended up in a muddle. One problem is the IWEB. It did not transfer with all blog entries. The blog www.curioustidbits.com is online accurately. It's on the old Macbook correctly but it is only 1/2 there on the new Mac. What would be the best course of action to get all the info on the Pro? Thank you.

Perhaps NOTE 1 in this article is relevant:

I have moved everything from my macbook pro onto my iMac. For some reason I cant see any of my music in iTunes even though I have logged in with my normal apple ID. Please help me before I kill something!!

How did you go about transferring your library onto the iMac? There are specific instructions one must follow to do this correctly without causing loss of data. Simply signing in via your Apple ID won't do much of anything unless you are an iTunes Match subscriber.
Did you just copy the entire iTunes folder over? If so, Quit iTunes then hold down option and click the iTunes icon in the Dock. Don't release option until the popup appears asking if you want to create a new library. Simply navigate to the library in the folder you copied over.
If you didn't go about transferring your library in that way, and you still have the MacBook Pro, follow these instructions to transfer your library properly to avoid data loss.
    Hope that helps!

I have a password problem. After importing data and settings from one MacBook Pro to a new one, I have to put my iCloud password in when re-starting the new computer, but the password from the old computer in when waking the computer from sleep. I want to use my iCloud password on both computers consistently. How can I fix this?

The only other place to change a password for the computer login is in Users & Groups preferences. But I don't really know enough here to fix your problem. You can try fixing the keychain:
iCloud- Frequently asked questions about iCloud Keychain
    Tutorial: Resolving Keychain Issues
If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
      1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
      3. Click the "First Aid" tab
      4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
      5. Close the Preferences window
      6. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
      7. Enter your username and password
      8. Click the "Repair" button
The second option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible. This can be accomplished as follows:
      1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
      3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
      4. Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
      5. Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
      6. Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting
          "New Keychain"
      7. You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then
going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:
      1. OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      2. OS X Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      3. Mac OS X 10.6: Enabling the root user
      4. Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.

I'm doing a transfer from one macbook pro to another. I have CS4 Photoshop Extended. When I go to open it on my new computer it says error 150:30.

Don't try transferring Adobe software. It rarely works and usually breaks the activation mechanism (150:30 error).

  • Running two Apple displays from one Macbook Pro?

I have two Apple displays with mini-display ports.  I have ONE Macbook Pro with ONE mini-display port.  Problem.
I purchased this USB 2.0 to DVI Display Adapter from Monoprice but still can't figure out how to get my mini-display ports to work with this.
Is this even the right product?

You can use another DVI, VGA, or even HDMI display for far cheaper with this adapter, US$60 plus shipping:

Warning: Results may be unacceptably laggy.

  • Moving iPhotos from Old MacBook Pro to my New MacBook Pro!

How do I move my entire iPhotos Application from my old MacBook Pro to my new MacBook Pro? I want to keep all my albums and slideshows intact. Is this possible? I'm going from a MacBook Pro OS 10.5.8, iPhoto 7.5.1 to MacBook Pro OS 10.9.1 iPhoto 9.5.1

Migration Assistant has a poor record with iPhoto Libraries, unfortunately.
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • Switch HD from one macbook pro to another?

I have a new macbook pro (i7) arriving this week, and I would like to simply take the HD out of my existing macbook pro (i5) and put it in the new one ... (instead of bothering with the migration tool). Would there be any problem with this? Or should I cross my fingers and use the migration tool? (or option 3: re-install everything from scratch, on the new machine)

I just went through this. I have a brand new 2.8MHz i7 MBP which was an upgrade from a early 2008 MBP. I had grief after restoring from a Time Machine backup as some of my Startup apps, added Preference Panes or such caused the new MBP to not boot. Applecare walked me through a procedure which entailed a complete reformat of the HD, reinstall of Snow Leopard, then a Root User restore of my Home user folders to get things right. Post that process I still needed to reinstall many apps as well to get things right.
Long story short, I'd wish I just started fresh, only restoring my data only from the backup then reinstall the applications. Turns out a much cleaner fresh start this way. Also, it seems like a long time and lots of trouble to reinstall your apps, but it is worse to try and troubleshoot individual glitches that pop up plus do a bunch of reinstall anyway.

  • Ways to transfer data from one Macbook Pro to another

  • Transferring account from one MacBook Pro to a newer one

Hi, we just bought a brand new MacBook Pro (non-retina) and we want to transfer just one account from our older MacBook Pro.
What's the best way to go about this? What kind of firewire do we need?
Our current MBP is 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, using OS 10.6.8.  The new one will have Lion.
    Thanks!

  • Can I transfer a hard drive from one macbook pro laptop to another?

I have a 2009 Macbook pro with a cracked screen and a messed up track pad (laptop A), but a fully functional hard drive. I have another 2009 Macbook pro (laptop B) with a blown hard drive, but everything else seems to be fine.
I removed the blown hitachi 320 hard drive from laptop B and set it aside. Then I removed the seemingly good Seagate 500 hard drive from laptop A and put it into laptop B. When I turn on Laptop B with the hard drive in it I get the folder with the question mark screen.
HELP. I am not tech savvy at all. But I can follow directions. Thanks.

*Please let me know if you need additional information from me.

Restart the computer with the Option key held down.
If you see the drive, click on it and then select it in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
If you don’t, insert a Mac OS X install DVD, press C if needed, and either repair the drive or install an OS onto it.

  • Move hard disk with OS X installation from one MacBook Pro to another

    Hi all,
I'm switching from my Unibody MacBook 17" to a Unibody MacBook 13". I want to keep my current hard disk including the OS X installation and all installed applications from my MacBook 17".
Can I just move the hard disk from my MacBook 17" to my MacBook 13" and expect OS X (and the installed applications) to work without any problems?
Many thanks and all the best,
    Michael

    Hi Kurt,
many thanks for your reply. I don't have a firewire cable and there is only a single hard disk involved (the MacBook 13" will only come with a 250 GB hard disk, which is too small to hold all the information from my current 500 GB hard disk).
What I could do is to physically move my current 500 GB hard disk from my 17" to my 13", reinstall OS X with the DVD coming with my 13" and then restore from my time capsule during install. That should work and avoid the driver problems which you mentioned, right?
Many thanks and all the best,
    Michael

  • Transfer email on MAIL program from one macbook pro to an IMac.

Is it possible to just transfer email on MAIL program from one mac computer to another mac without using the internet? I have a huge amount of email that I would like to transfer my email but I have a limited amount of data download allowance. I am not sure if migration assistant will be that specific.

Follow these instructions only if both Macs are running exactly the same version of OS X.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with an item selected. Quit the application if it's running. Copy the selected item from the old Mac to the new one any way you like.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Can I move an SSD from one MacBook Pro to another?

I have a late 2011 MBP but am getting the latest MBP today. I have a 500 GB SSD in my current MBP and 8 GB RAM? Can I just move the SSD and RAM from the old MBP to the new one?

I just did this - moved a late 2011 (15") to a mid 2012 (non-retina).  In my case the RAM would not transfer (2012 machine needed faster RAM than 2011) but the SSD did transfer.

  • HT204350 How many hours (maximum) does it take to migrate 400  GB from one MacBook Pro to another MBP using Ethernet connection?

How long do I need for migrating data from old MBP to a new MBP?

The fastest way would be to connect the two computers over Firewire, start the new MBP in Target Mode, and either clone the whole hard drive from the old MBP or only copy across the things you need. Doing it that way would take about 1-2 hours depending on how much stuff you're copying.
Ethernet would be a lot slower.
