Moving multiple keyframes

Hello,
In AE CS3, I'm trying to make a relative change to all the position keyframes on one layer. I click "Position" to highlight all, then drag the value slider, but it just adds a new keyframe where the position indicater is.
I've dug around in the help file (and thought I found a solution) and in the forums, but no luck! Surely there's an easy way to do this!
Thank you in advance!
AE CS3

You say that you tried something that you found in Help, but it didn't work. What, exactly, did you try?
Here's what I would recommend, from "Change multiple keyframe values at once":
"If you change a value by dragging the underlined value, all selected keyframes change by the same amount. In other words, you make a relative change. For example, if you select several Position keyframes on a motion path and drag the underlined value for one of them, all selected keyframe values change by the same amount."
From your initial description of your problem, it doesn't seem that you selected the keyframes themselves; it just seems that you selected the property.

  • How to adjust multiple keyframe values accurately?

    How can I precisely adjust a set of keyframes, eg. adding 10 to the X coordinate of all selected position keyframes?
    This is painful in the graph editor.  I have to zoom way in, and then carefully drag the group of keyframes up until I see a delta of "10".  I often end up actually moving it by 10.001.
    Parenting and unparenting isn't a solution, because I need to be able to do this for any keyframe, like expression sliders, not just transforms.
    I started to write a script for this, but I can't find any way to move a keyframe, other than deleting it, creating a new one and then carefully copying over the interpolation settings, which seems risky (if it loses keyframe information, I might not notice until much later).  I guess I could write a native plugin, but that's a lot more work.  This is pretty basic, so hopefully there's already a way to do this.

    Arrow keys only work with position, but I need a solution for any keyframe stream.  Entering equations into the numeric entry doesn't work when moving multiple keyframes, since it still sets every keyframe to that value.  If the value is 10 and you enter "10+20", it doesn't add 20 to every keyframe, it just sets every keyframe to 30.  It would be perfect if it let me type in "n+20", and then evaluated the expression for each keyframe to set its new value, but no such luck.
    As for number scrubbing, there are countless problems, even ignoring the lack of precision. You can't drag by just 1; it doesn't start changing until the cursor has moved a minimum distance, so it doesn't move at all and then suddenly jumps to +3.  (That's normal dragging behavior--it's so you don't accidentally drag when you're just trying to click--but it makes this interface hard to use.)  You also can't easily see the number you're changing (the mouse cursor is covering it!), and if you have an expression on the field you can't see the initial value at all, since it shows the result value until it sees a drag, not the source value.
    I wrote a script for this.  (The issue of changing keyframes was something else--you can change the value of keyframes from scripts, you just can't change their time.  Which is still a problem, but a separate one...)  If anyone wants it: [JavaScript] // Recursively find all keyframes in a property group.  function findKeyframes(p - Pastebin.com
    Examples:
    - Select a bunch of position keyframes, run the script, and enter "n[0] += 50" to add 50 to the X position of all selected keyframes.
    - Select slider control keyframes, and "n++" will increase them all by 1.
    - Select scale keyframes, and "n[0] *= 2; n[1] *= 2; n[2] *= 2;" to double the scale of all of them.
    - "n[0] = Math.round(n[0]); n[1] = Math.round(n[1]);" will snap selected keyframes to the nearest integer.
    - Select rotation keyframes, and "n += 90" will add 90 degrees to all of them.
    - Select checkbox keyframes, and n = !n will flip them all.

  • Moving multiple audio keyframes within a clip...but not all of them

    I have a highlight video with an underlying music bed where I've dropped the levels when I have someone speaking to the camera.
    I had to shorten the video and need to re-align the keyframes for some of the sections of music back up with the audio of the video clips.
    I've figured out how to shift all the keyframes together in an audio clip, but I can't find anything on shifting only a certain selection of keyframes within a clip. I'm hoping that there is an easier way to do this than moving each keyframe individually.
    'FCP Help' mentions using the Range Selection Tool, but instead of moving keyframes, it cuts out the section of the clip that is selected and moves it.
    I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

    If so, create some locally stored mailboxes with Outlook to transfer and sort messages from the server stored mailboxes. This will store the messages locally on your computer's hard drive and remove them from the server at the same time. The iPhone's Mail client will download messages available in server stored mailboxes only with an IMAP account. • Select and move multiple keyframs

    I just switched from Adobe Premier Elements on a PC to FCE 4. In PrEl, you can select multiple keyframes in their equivalent of the Viewer, you can them move them as a group. (Select them shift click or drag a square around them.)
    This is really useful for changing the timing of motion, i.e., if you decide that you'd like the motion to take a little longer etc.
    it also lets you move them to a different time w/out rick of changing the values in the overlay.
    I can't figure out a way to do this in FCE, is there a hidden way or something I'm missing?
    thanks

    I'd like to be able to stretch out a motion. For example, I scale in a photo. But I later decide the scaling should take 8 seconds rather than 5. I'd like to grab the 2nd keyframe for scale and rotation and move them both equally 3 seconds later.
    I believe moving a motion path just changes its position, but doesn't affect it's duration.

  • Selecting multiple keyframes in edit window

    i am trying to figure out how select multiple keyframes at once in the edit window, to drag either to start or end of a clip instead of doing it one by one, i have used premiere for a long time, and i am used to just dragging a marquee box over the desired keyframes and moving them, i just cant seem to find out out this simple process in fcp. thx

    You cannot grab a "selection" of keyframe's and move them within the clip, it is an all or nothing operation with FCP ... and its been yet another of the major failings of the app for a long time, the sort of thing that was forgivable for a fairly long while, but really by now it should have been addressed.
    PLEASE post your feelingson this to the FCP feedback page
    In the meantime, if you're happy to move all the keyframes of a specific clip rather than just a small selection, or if are happy to divide (blade tool) the clip into sections so as the keyframe slip only affects specific keyframe selections, then the operation is different depending on whether you want to slip audio of video keyframes ...
    Video keyframes can be slipped relatively simply audio keyframes are a bit trickier.
    *FOR VIDEO*
    Toggle open the keyframe overlay area on the timeline (option T)
    Right click in this area of the clip whose keyframes you want to adjust and choose those keyframe properties that you want to adjust from the drop down menu
    Then hovver your mouse over the keyframe line that appears for those properties (not on a keyframe itself but on the line that joins them) ... the cursor should change to a || shape, and if you click and drag the keyframe line whilst in this tool mode then the keyframes will move without moving the content.
    *FOR AUDIO*
    Lets assume that you have applied a series of audio level keyframes to a clip and now wish to slip them a little, heres how:
    Load the audio clip from the timeline into the viewer
    Select the Slip tool
    Then simply click and drag on any keyframe (or anywhere on the level line itself) within the waveform area of the viewer to slip the clip's keyframes (the cursor will change to the slip tool as you hover over the right area)
    ... release the mouse button and you'll see that the keyframes have indeed slipped appropriately, whereas the clip's in, out and placement, has remained unchanged.
    Unfortunately however, there's none of the feedback that we've come to expect from rest of the FCP interface during this process... no phantom marks showing where the keyframes are moving to, no counter to show how many frames left and right the keyframes are being moved.
    It seems to be one of those not-quite-finished undocumented features.
    Hope it helps
    Andy

  • Moving multiple queries from one category to another in QM

    Hi All,
    Is there is any way of moving multiple queries from one category to another in the query manager?
    Or is the only way of doing it by saving each one individually into a different category.
    Any ideas ?
    Regards,
    Rakesh N

    Hi Rakesh,
    The query manager has limited function compare with normal file management applications. Under current design, you have to do this one by one. You just need to make sure move the smaller amount of queries to large category. Category name can be changed easily.
    Thanks,

  • "manually manage music..." missing songs when moving multiple albums at once

    Since updating to iTunes 10.6.1.7, when adding songs to my iPhone (iPhone 4, iOS 5.1) it does not fully copy every track/song.
    I have it set to "manually manage music and videos" ...when I am moving multiple albums to the thing at once, the earlier albums only copy the songs started before I select the next album. Consequently, I find that I only have partial albums for almost everything. I suppose I could be patient and wait for each album to download before selecting another album, but this used to work before and took a lot less time. (I would drag multiple albums into my iPhone and it would queue up all of the tracks(songs) and correctly download asynchronously.)
    Is this a known bug or is there something I am doing wrong? (As always, I did some searching for answers but came up empty on this one...)
    Thanks in advance for your help!
    MikeY

    The order iTunes is showing the tracks can be changed. Select the album column heading to get tracks list in album order. Normally within an album the tracks will list in track order when viewing this way.

  • Moving multiple objects in a Finder window

    Try a simple experiment in Tiger (10.4): in a Finder window with the icon view + snap to grid ON, select multiple grouped objects (e.g. 10-20) and move them to a different place in the same window.
    They will not stay grouped but be sometimes dispersed in a random way or even move to places belonging to different grids.
    Another experiment is to move a single object from one window into another one: this changes the grid of the second window from time to time.
    This is extremely annoying when you want to keep the icons ordered.
    This bug existed also in Panther.
    I'm convinced it will exist in the next Mac OS X release. Do you bet ?

    Hi DarkStar,
    In my case there are no other major application running when I see the moving multiple objects bug in the Finder. And (as for econupmac) the problem is intermittent.
    I've checked the bug again and realize that it appears mostly when I'm moving a group of objects belonging to different columns. Here is what I did:
    Create a folder with the 'Snap to grid' option ON and 'Icon size 16x16'. Set its View as Icon. Load this folder with 30 files and organize them into 3 groups of 10 files side by side. Enlarge the size of the folder to have plenty space by maneuver.
    Now select the 5 bottom files of the middle column and move them gently around, then release them. The 'Snap to grid' feature will work fine and the files will be shifted to the nearest grid position... except when the files will stay in the middle of nowhere (you might need to do it several times until it happens).
    THIS IS THE APPLE BUG.
    This bug is more easily seen when a group of objects belonging to 2 adjacent columns is moved. Check this on a nicely arranged folder : Select the 5 bottom files of the middle column and the 5 bottom files of the right column and move them slightly. I bet that they will not stick to the grid. This will create a second grid which corrupts the folder. The next time you'll move around objects in this folder you'll see how crazy the folder behaves.

  • Is copying and pasting multiple keyframes disabled?

    I haven't used after effects for a year or so, but I am 100% positive that I was able to copy multiple keyframes or duplicate them just by holding down the alt key and dragging, or by hitting cmd+c and cmd+v. I'm trying to do that now but it copies the actual layers, not the keyframes and I found a plugin here http://aescripts.com/paste-multiple-keyframes/ that lets you copy and paste multiple keyframes .. I really don't understand why adobe would disable such a helpful feature, could anyone let me know if they have the same problem or am I doing something wrong? I'm desperate!
    Thank you

    > I am 100% positive that I was able to copy multiple keyframes or duplicate them just by holding down the alt key and dragging
    That has never been a feature of After Effects.
    > hitting cmd+c and cmd+v
    I just tried copying and pasting multiple keyframes using these commands, and it worked fine for me.
    > I really don't understand why adobe would disable such a helpful feature,
    We changed nothing in this area.

  • Numerical way wanted of moving many keyframes ?

    Hi
    Flash CS5
    I need to move left and right keyframes until I have my animation fine tuned, I have a very long timeline of many scrolls width and having to drag KF's left and right, re scrolling a few times to do so, is a real pain.
    Is there a way of selecting a keyframe in a timeline and entering the new frame number to have it move to that frame ?
    If I have a Classic Tween with a few KF's in it and its guide layer the next row above it , can I shift that entire tween sequence on one row to a position that overlaps that sequence ..and how ?
    I also need to alter magnification on the timeline to lessen all thsi scrolling, again how ?
    Envirographics

    The option to reduce cell size on the timeline is here (but I find it sort of unusable at tiny), in the upper right of the timeline panel:
    You can select all or a portion of a sequence (from the start to the end of a single keyframe) by just double clicking anywhere inside the keyframe.
    To select over multiple keyframes just do as you're doing. Click to select the first frame anywhere you want to start:
    Scroll over to where you want the selection to end, hold shift and click to select the end:
    You're then free to drag that piece anywhere in the rest of your timeline or press cut or copy frames, then drag or paste where you want it.

  • Moving multiple audio keyframes

    ok.. This is strange... This should be a no brainer.
    I have a range of audio keyframes, due to t a change in the edit, I now need to move a range of keyframes earlier in time.
    now it looks like I can select the range... however, I can't seem to do anything with it.
    I can't.. ahem.. 'EDIT' them....
    any ideas ?
    The attached images show the position after I manually move them one by frakkin one...

    AFAIK, there is no way to do what you want (which is perfectly reasonable, BTW). At least it's not in the FCPX documentation or something I've been able to discover by using every combination of modifier keys I could think of. One at a time seems to be the current limitation.
    If anyone knows something different, hopefully they'll chime in.

  • Moving multiple symbols "breaks" motion tweens

    I'm working on a character rotation in Flash CS 5.5 that leads into a basic walk cycle using all motion tweens. The tutorial I'm following (which only uses classic tweens) says to grab all the upper body symbols with free transform and rotate them forward a little. This works fine with classic tweens, but with motion tweens, the parts pop strangely out of place and the more frames I try to move the upper body symbols on, the worse the symbols start randomly sliding around. You can see a simple before/after example posted below. Moving the profile view upper body symbols displaces the arms on the first frame.
    Is there any way to move multiple symbols without ruining them? Someone else described at length a problem like this on an old thread, but no one answered: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1084800
    I've tried taking all the upper body layers and sticking them in a symbol, but that won't work because the left hand will pass over the left leg instead of under due to layering.
    EDIT - Whatever change is made to the arms during the walk  changes the key frames at the beginning, but only if selected with other symbols. If I move the upper body parts down instead of rotating them, the first frame arms will be retroactively be moved down.

    If you are interested in getting decent results at some point youwill have to looke into the Bone-Tool or use a extension like DragonBones
    The reason why you are having "Displacement"-problems lies in the "Math" behind how AnimatorFactory (the system behind Motion Tweens) handles transformations different from Tweens (Its outright misleading to call them Tweens, and Adobe did a poor naming job).
    Right click one of the Motion tweens and chosy "copy as Actionscript 3.0" from the context menu then paste the code in any available textEditor and you will see sth like:
    import fl.motion.AnimatorFactory;
    import fl.motion.MotionBase;
    import fl.motion.Motion;
    import flash.filters.*;
    import flash.geom.Point;
    var __motion_Symbol1_9:MotionBase;
    if(__motion_Symbol1_9 == null) {
        __motion_Symbol1_9 = new Motion();
        __motion_Symbol1_9.duration = 24;
        // Call overrideTargetTransform to prevent the scale, skew,
        // or rotation values from being made relative to the target
        // object's original transform.
        // __motion_Symbol1_9.overrideTargetTransform();
        // The following calls to addPropertyArray assign data values
        // for each tweened property. There is one value in the Array
        // for every frame in the tween, or fewer if the last value
        // remains the same for the rest of the frames.
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("x", [0]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("y", [0]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("scaleX", [1.000000]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("scaleY", [1.000000]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("skewX", [0]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("skewY", [0]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("rotationConcat", [0,3.91304,7.82609,11.7391,15.6522,19.5652,23.4783,27.3913,31.3043,35.2174,39.1304,43.043 5,46.9565,50.8696,54.7826,58.6957,62.6087,66.5217,70.4348,74.3478,78.2609,82.1739,86.087,9 0]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("blendMode", ["normal"]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("cacheAsBitmap", [false]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("opaqueBackground", [null]);
        __motion_Symbol1_9.addPropertyArray("visible", [true]);
        // Create an AnimatorFactory instance, which will manage
        // targets for its corresponding Motion.
        var __animFactory_Symbol1_9:AnimatorFactory = new AnimatorFactory(__motion_Symbol1_9);
        __animFactory_Symbol1_9.transformationPoint = new Point(0.499943, 0.500000);
        // Call the addTarget function on the AnimatorFactory
        // instance to target a DisplayObject with this Motion.
        // The second parameter is the number of times the animation
        // will play - the default value of 0 means it will loop.
        // __animFactory_Symbol1_9.addTarget(<instance name goes here>, 0);
        // Call the addTarget function on the AnimatorFactory
        // instance to target a DisplayObject with this Motion.
        // The second parameter is the number of times the animation
        // will play - the default value of 0 means it will loop.
        // __animFactory_Symbol1_9.addTarget(<instance name goes here>, 0);
    This is only the code for simply rotating a rectangle over the duration of 24 frames.
    You notice 2 two problems right away: while having the registration point in the center, Flash distorts the values:
        __animFactory_Symbol1_9.transformationPoint = new Point(0.499943, 0.500000); //should be (0.5, 0.5)
    you can imagine that this "error" gets worse when inherited from nested symbol to nested symbol, it "exponentially" grows with each nesting, and it will soon reach a point were it gets visible.

  • Moving Multiple Subtitles

    I have a ten minute educational video that I have manually created subtitles for in DVDSP4 (I realize there are better methods for creating subtitles, but I wanted to get this done as quickly as possible and I very rarely do subtitles).
    After placing all of the subtitles, I decided to trim one section of the video by a couple of seconds in FCP. I then reimported the footage into DVDSP. I was hoping to then select all of the subtitles after the edit point and move them to the left by the duration of the trim, but unfortunately I cant figure out how to move more than one subtitle at a time. Even if I select multiple subtitles, only the one that is clicked on gets moved. Even better would be to just hit the "minus" key, type the duration and hit return to move them, like you can with clips in FCP.
    Is there any way to move a range of subtitles, or do I have to move each of them one by one? (Im hoping Im just mising something as it would be incredibly stupid if this was the case)

    As Hal says Belle Nuit is supposed to be good. Played with the demo but never actually used it extensively. STLEdit would be your best bet but unfortunately the developer has stopped offering it for sale due to lack of interest.
    We use both STLEdit and on a PC we use Lemony which is very good for taking one subtitle format and changing to another, shifting timecodes, etc.
    Subtitle Workshop on the PC is supposed to be good. I believe soemone on the Tully DVDList (Bouke?) is about to release new subtitling tool.
    Most people who deal with subtitling a lot are usually supplied with some kind of ready prepared file from the film distributor or the like. We do quite a few Japanese movies and always get some kind of file sent with timecode references - of course the English often has to be corrected! (Bet their English is better than my Japanese however...)
