Moving table column

I am able to add a column to a table through the SQL Workshop Object Browser. The column gets added to the end of the table.
However, I don't see any way of moving the added column into position in the table. It is possible to move a table column in Apex, or do I have to use another tool?

Why do you need to move a column? The table has the column, so is it for a visual affect or what exactly? Only way I know of is to drop table and rebuild with the column in the position you want..

• Moving table columns is very slow

In my application moving table columns is very slow, with the rendering of table cells dragging behind the rendering of the table cell (using Java 1.5). I use a custom table cell renderer that subclasses a JPanel and contains a JTextField.
I checked I was overriding all the methods that DefaultTableCellRenderer does for performance reasons and found I wasnt overiding validate() and invalidate(), over-riding these the table column performance is now ok, but the cells are now not rendered correctly.
I also put a System.out.println into getTableRendererComponent() and found that even if I only move a column slightly the getTableRendererComponent() is called for every cell displayed rather than just the cells within the column moved/columns either side of it which is what i expect.
Any ideas what i should do. My own vague idea is to put some code into validate() and invalidate() to only call super implemntaions when really need to, but dont know how to work this out.

Hi, thanks for your help - ive created a full test case, code below. I have reworked the code so I dont need to do a removeAll() but the issues remaining are:
1. If I override validate() with an empty method nothing is displayed in the grid
2. The renderer is alot slower than the using default renderer even though ive removed stuff like borders.
The code below has validate without the empty method.
(My real renderer is a bit more complicated, and I do require to use a JPanel)

• 'sort' icon in the header of table column

Hi everybody,
I am using table UI element in WD ABAP. Table columns can be sorted and the method fro event 'onSort' is defined.
On each table column header a tool tip with icons ▲▼ appears when the cursor is moved over the right side of the column header.
Is it possible to make this icon appear on the right of each column header permanently?
Thank you for your help,
Helen

Hi Jörg,
We are using IE6 or IE7. And nothing appears. ONSort action exists and defined.
May be I will create internal message for ABAP WD.
Kind regards,
Helen

• Problem in truncate/drop partitions in a table having nested table columns.

Hi,
I have a table that has 2 columns of type nested table. Now in the purge process, when I try to truncate or drop a partition from this table, I get error that I can't do this (because table has nested tables). Can anybody help me telling how I will be able to truncate/drop partition from this table? IF I change column types from nested table to varray type, will it help?
Also, is there any short method of moving existing data from a nested table column to a varray column (having same fields as nested table)?
Thanks in advance.

>
Unfortunately you can't do those operations when a table has a nested table column. No truncate, no drop, no exchange partition at the partition level.
A nested table column is stored as a separate table and acts like a 'child' table with foreign keys to the 'parent' table. It is these 'foreign keys' that prevent the truncation (just like normal foreign keys prevent truncating partions and must be disabled first) but there is no mechanism to 'disable' them.
Just one excellent example (there are many others) of why you should NOT use object columns at all.
>
IF I change column types from nested table to varray type, will it help?
>
Yes but I STRONGLY suggest you take this opportunity to change your data model to a standard relational one and put the 'child' (nested table) data into its own table with a foreign key to the parent. You can create a view on the two tables that can make data appear as if you have a nested table type if you want.
Assuming that you are going to ignore the above advice just create a new VARRAY type and a table with that type as a column. Remember VARRAYs are defined with a maximum size. So the number of nested table records needs to be within the capacity of the VARRAY type for the data to fit.
>
Also, is there any short method of moving existing data from a nested table column to a varray column (having same fields as nested table)?
>
Sure - just CAST the nested table to the VARRAY type. Here is code for a VARRAY type and a new table that shows how to do it.
-- new array type
CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE ARRAY_T AS VARRAY(10) OF VARCHAR2(64)
-- new table using new array type - NOTE there is no nested table storage clause - arrays stored inline
CREATE TABLE partitioned_table_array
( ID_ INT,
arra_col ARRAY_T )
PARTITION BY RANGE (ID_)
( PARTITION p1 VALUES LESS THAN (40)
, PARTITION p2 VALUES LESS THAN(80)
, PARTITION p3 VALUES LESS THAN(100)
-- insert the data from the original table converting the nested table data to the varray type
INSERT INTO PARTITIONED_TABLE_ARRAY
SELECT ID_, CAST(NESTED_COL AS ARRAY_T) FROM PARTITIONED_TABLENaturally since there is no more nested table storage you can truncate or drop partitions in the above table
alter table partitioned_table_array truncate partition p1
alter table partitioned_table_array drop partition p1

• JButton to simulate table column header

is there a property on the JButton that will make it behave the same way as a table column header ? Someone showed me a property window of a swing app and they wanted to know how it was done. i suggested to juse use soem buttons, but when i looked closer it was apparent that the action of the buttons was different from what i am familiar with. the buttons moved in/out when they were clicked instead of just turning color.

i was just playing around with it again and used an AWT button. these do the same thing that the example i saw. i wasnt aware of this difference between swing jbuttons and AWT buttons. When pressing an AWT button, it appears as if it is depressed when you click it as opposed to a swing button that just changes to a darger grey. what am i missing ?

• BUG: Export DDL and Data fails for mixed case table/column names

Hi there,
I have found a bug in SQL Developer. See details below.
Description:
When "Export DDL and Data) function is used on a table/columns not named in UPPERCASE, sql generated by SQL Developer is invalid.
Steps to reproduce:
- open SQL Developer, connect to DB
- make a table named "lowerCase" (in double quotes, so it won't be automatically changed to capital letters)
- you may also add some columns, for example "lowerCol1", "UpCol2", ALLUPCOL3
- add some data rows to the table
- choose Tools -> Export DDL and Data
- check exporting of tables and data, on "filter" tabs choose your "lowerCase" table
- press "Apply"
Error:
Generated SQL contains invalid INSERTs: mixed-case table and columns are referenced without obligatory double quotes, which yields an error when generated script is executed (see below, relevant line is underlined)
-- DDL for Table lowerCase
CREATE TABLE "DBO_HT"."lowerCase"
( "lowerCol1" VARCHAR2(100),
"UpCol2" VARCHAR2(100),
"ALLUPCOL3" VARCHAR2(100)
-- DATA FOR TABLE lowerCase
-- FILTER = none used
-- INSERTING into lowerCase
Insert into lowerCase (lowerCol1,UpCol2,ALLUPCOL3) values ('lc','uc','auc');
-- END DATA FOR TABLE lowerCase
Remarks
SQL Developer: version 1.2.1, build MAIN-32.13
Oracle DBs: 9.2 & Express
OS: Windows 2000 Professional
If you need any more details/testing, let me know. I'd really appreciate a quick patch for this issue...
Alternatively, do you know of any other simple way of copying a single database (it's called a schema in Oracle, right?) from one computer to another? Possibly something so simple like detaching->copying->reattaching mdf (data) files in SQL Server... I thought that this "Export DDL&Data" function will do, but as you can see I couldn't use it.
I just need a simple solution that works - one operation on source to stuff, get the resulting files to other computer and one operation to have it running there... I think that such scenario is very basic, yet I just can't achieve it and I am simply not allowed to spend more time on it (read: our test project fails, my company rejects my "lobbying" and stays with MSSQL :/ )
Thanks a lot & bye

Thanks for your reply.

You're right. I just wanted to give some very short feedback on my experiences with SQL Developer, so I didn't think starting new threads would be necessary, but as I was writing it became much bigger than I initially planned - sorry about that. I will make proper threads as soon as possible. Having "Edit post" button on this forum would also be useful.

Generally, you're right - in most cases it's true that "switching DBMS is a major commitment" and "you will produce terrible code" if you don't learn the new one.
However, I think that you miss one part of market here - the market that I think Express is also targeted on. I'd call it a "fire&forget databases" market; MySQL comes to mind as possibly most common solution here. It's the rather small systems, possibly web-accessed, whose data-throughput requirements are rather modest; the point is to store data at all, and not necesarily in fastest way, because given the amount of data that is used, even on low-end hardware it will work well enough. What's important here is its general ease of use - how easy is to set up such system, connect and access data, develop a software using it, how much maintenance is needed, how easy this maintenance is, how easy are the most common development tasks as creating a DB, moving a DB from test to production server etc. There, "how easy" directly translates to "how much time we need to set it up", which translates to "how much will the development will cost".
Considering the current technology, switching the DBMS in such systems is not necesarily a major commitment and believe me that you will not produce terrible code. In many cases it's as simple as changing a switch in your ORM toolkit: hibernate.dialect = Hibernate.Dialect.OracleDialect vs MySQLDialect vs MsSql2005Dialect
Therefore, in some part of market it's easy to switch DBMS, even on project-by-project basis. The reason to switch will appear when other DBMS makes life easier => development faster. From that point of view, I can understand my colleagues giving me an embarassing look and saying "come on, I won't read all these docs just to have db copied to test server". And it doesn't mean "they are not willing to learn anything new", it's just that they feel such basic task should have self-explaining solution that doesn't require mastering any special knowledge. And if they get such simple solutions somewhere else, it costs them nothing to change the hibernate dialect.
I think Oracle did the great job with introducing the Express to this "fire&forget" market. The installation is a snap, it just works out of the box, nothing serious to configure, opposite to what I remember from installing and working on Oracle 9 a few years ago. In some places it's still "you need to start SQL*Plus and enter this script", but it's definitely less than before. I also find the SQL Developer a great tool, it can do most of what we need to do with the DB, it's also much better and pleasant to use over Oracle 9 tools. Still, a few basic things still require too much hassle, and I'd say taking your schema to another machine is one of them. So I think that, if you do it well, the "schema copy wizard" you mentioned might be very helpful. If I was to give any general advice for Express line of DB/tools, I'd say "make things simple" - make it "a DB you can't see".
That's, IMHO, the way to attract more Express users.

• Oracle APEX 4.0 - Interactive Report - Table Column Filter Issue

Environment: Oracle APEX 4.0 - Interactive Report - Table Column header Filter Issue
We have developed an interactive report using Oracle APEX 4.0, which contains a record count of around 3,000 Rows. All the rows values are unique in nature. When we try to filter the same with the help of column header filter option available in the interactive report,We get only 1000 records.
Could some one help us, why this behaviour under APEX Table Column Header Filter as if it does not display beyond 1000 distinct values.
Is there a way or workaround on how to get all the records in the column header filter?
Thanks in advance.

• Unable to capture the adf table column sort icons using open script tool

Hi All,
I am new to OATS and I am trying to create script for testing ADF application using open script tool. I face issues in recording two events.
1. I am unable to record the event of clicking adf table column sort icons that exist on the column header. I tried to use the capture tool, but that couldn't help me.
2. The second issue is I am unable to capture the panel header text. The component can be identified but I was not able to identify the supporting attribute for the header text.

I'm not sure if you want the values from the attribute or the element, but this should give you a good start :
SQL> alter session set nls_numeric_characters = ".,";
Session altered
SQL>
SQL> select x.*
2 from my_table t
3 , xmltable(
4 xmlnamespaces('http://www.oracle.com/fsg/2002-03-20/' as "sg")
5 , '/MasterReport/sg:RptDef/sg:RptLine'
6 passing xmltype(t.xmldoc)
7 columns type varchar2(30) path 'sg:RptCell[1]'
8 , amount number path 'sg:RptCell[2]'
9 ) x
10  ;
TYPE AMOUNT
debits 100
credits 100

• Which option to use to search text in multiple table columns

Hi, I have a case where I have 4 db tables. On the UI there is an option to search a keyword from some columns of these 4 tables.
Table1 = summary, description are the columns user can search on
Table2 = project_name is the column user can search on
Table3 = need_by_date is the column user can search on
Table4 = owner is the column user can search on
On the UI, user can enter a keyword and check the columns they want to search on. Out of the above, they can check one column, or more, or all.
My question is what is the best option to use oracle text search in this case.
Option 1 = I create a procedure to select these columns and then create an index on this procedure. In this case, is there a way to specify
which columns to search on?
Option 2= Create 4 separate indexes on these table/columns and then query the columns which user has selected to search on.
Any other better idea?

Hi,
multicolumn only works on columns in the same table.
If you can also query just on one field, then an index per field will be preferable. If you query always on all the fields then the one index approach is good. For this last the options are:
1. Use User_datastore, create a procedure and a dummy column
2. Create a materialized view for the query and build an index on this materialized view
3. Store the fields as an xml in the main table and index the xml column.
The maintanance of options 1 and 3 are bigger, because you need triggers to be aware of an update. Option 2 and 3 will need more storage.

• Urgent Help Required for Check Box in Table Column

Hi all,
Could any body help me to solve my problem?
First of all I have created a table whose one column is check box. The column of the tables are Name,Phone,ID,Address and a checkBox columns. In one view
the table will be found with data. I want to click on some of the rows(suppose there are 5 rows, but based on some condition I have selected the check box of 3 rows).
Next there will be a button(Supose SEND Button).
After selecting the check box I want to press that button and then a new window will come which will show two tables. one for selected rows(with the same columns name except check box) and another for Unchecked rows with the same column name(Name,Phone,ID,Address).
Could any body help me by sending the details and code?
Thanks and Regards.
Sudip

Hi Sudip,
1) create custom controller and appropriate context structure there (dataNode(Name,Phone,ID,Address,Check))
2) create view StartView. Map data node from custom controller to node in view. Create table and bind context node attributes to appropriate table columns.
3) create view ResultView. Map data node from custom controller to node in view. Create 2 nodes (CheckedData, UncheckedData) with supply methods. Create filtering implementation in supply methods (add checked and unchecked node elements to appropriate nodes).
4) create new window with resultView as default view
4) in startView in button action handler put something like
IWDWindowInfo _windowInfo = wdComponentAPI.getComponentInfo().findInWindows("Popup");
IWDWindowManager manager = wdComponentAPI.getWindowManager();
IWDWindow _window = manager.createWindow(_windowInfo, true);
_window.open();
So, just tried localy and it works.
Best regards, Maksim Rashchynski.

• Table Column - Different UI elements in a column

Hi,
I have the following requirement. I need to create a table shown below.
COLUMN1 COLUMN2
ROW1 cell11 cell21
ROW2 cell12 cell22
I need cell11 and cell22 to be textviews and cell12 and cell21 to be inputfields. In other words, I need different cells in a table column to be of different types.
How do I do this.
Thank

Hi,
An easier way to switch between input field and text view is to just bind the readOnly property. Why actually switch between InputField and TextView.
Create an attribute 'EDITABLE' type Boolean in the node that is bound to the table.
1.Create all the cell editors as input field.
2.Bind the readOnly poperty with the attribuite 'EDITABLE'
3.Now pass abap_true to make it a text view and abap_false to make in input enabled.
However it is possible to switch between different UI elements using Cell Variant .

• New table/column in publication breaks replication

Hi,
SQL 2008R2
I added a control table to a database that is being replicated to a different server. The tabled called [__Updated] has one column called [DateUpdated] of type datetime2. I manually created the table in the subscriber, added the new table/column

It falls over with the error shown below, any ideas?

• Problem with LinkToURL in a table column

Hi,
let's say we have a LinkToURL element with a text and an image. Then a click on the text OR a click on the image navigates to the given URL.
This behaviour changes if you put the LinkToURL element in a table column. In that case the link is executed only if you click on the text, nothing happens if you click on the image (I assume this is a bug, of have I missed a detail?). If you have a LinkToURL element without a text and with an image only, this becomes a problem.
One column of my table contains a single image, and a click on that image shall open a link. Is there another way to do this except using a LinkToURL element?
Thanks,
Karsten

Hi Valery,
yes, this hint is exactly what I needed. I just changed the LinkToURL to a LinkToAction, and this can be activated by clicking the text OR the image.
The necessary coding in the action handler would then look like this:
WDWindow wnd = wdComponentAPI.getWindowManager()
.createExternalWindow("http://www.sap.com",
"SAP Global", false);
wnd.open();
Thank you very much,
Karsten
