Moving the timeline from a loaded swf file

Hi,
I have been at this problem for awhile now.
I have a two swf files, whic are loaded using ths code as an example:
stop();
var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest("Enchilada_A.swf");
var loader:Loader = new Loader();
function imageLoaded(event:Event):void {
    ldContainerB.addChild(loader);
loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, imageLoaded);
loader.load(req);
The first one is triggerrd by a MC button that is on the timeline.
That first swf loads fine.
At the end of that file(which is short animation)
I have code that says:
MovieClip(parent).gotoAndStop("frameThree");
I have also tried:
MovieClip(root) and
if (movie Clip is parent) {
MovieClip(parent).gotoAndStop("frameThree");
and/MovieClip(parent).nextFrame();
I have also tried placing this. or root. into the code.
I am not talking to the timeline from this swf file.
Once the timeline moves to the next Frame the new swf file can load.
My solution was to combine both swf files into one, which loads from the timeline button.
It works and I can gt by but I really woud like to learn how to load a swf and talk to the timeline fro more flexibilty.
I'm out of strategies.
Is my code in the wrong place(at the last frame of the animation?
Should it be written on the timeline by creating a new var that has a function once the animation is completed.
Any suggestions and/or commens would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks,
I finally had a chance to get back to this project and used your suggestions, whichare definitiley helpful. I also, created a new and very basic version of the project so I could easily see what was happening.
This is the code that works:
stop();
MovieClip(parent.parent).nextFrame();
trace(container_mc);
I'm still trying to understand how the child parent relationship is working but this will get me going in the right direction.

  • Controlling a Movie Clip on the Main Timeline from a loaded SWF?

    Is it possible to control a MovieClip on the main timelne from another loaded clip?
    I see posts that control loaded clips, but most are all from the loader in the main timeline.  I have a moviclip on the main timeline that I want to make visible or invisible depending on what keyframe is playing in another loaded swf.
    If I try to call the movieClip from the loaded SWF I get "error #1119.  Access of possibly undefined property...." because it doesn't exist in the loaded SWF, just the main timeline.
    The old AS2 way just used "_root".  Since "_root" doesn't exist any more, how do you control items on the main TimeLine from a loaded SWF?

    I am not clear what you mean because you are saying you are trying to target a movieclip that does not exist where you are trying to target it.
    Try using a trace to see what you are targeting when you you target the MovieClip(parent.parent)....
    trace(MovieClip(parent.parent));
    The other approach I mentioned earlier is the more OOP-correct approach if you would rather try that way.  Here's a rough outline of it...
    AS3 - Dispatch Event
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/470135?tstart=120
    Example:
    Add something to trigger the event in the child (your loaded swf):
    dispatchEvent(new Event("eventTriggered")); (
    if dispatchEvent problem, see: http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1899603#post1899603)
    In your loading/parent swf, listen for the complete event on the Loader.contentLoaderInfo.  In the complete event handler, add a listener for the event on the loaded swf.
    // event handler triggered when external swf is loaded
    function loaderCompleteHandler(event:Event) {
        MovieClip(event.currentTarget.content).addEventListener("eventTriggered", eventHandler);
    function eventHandler(event:Event):void {
        trace("event dispatched in loaded swf");
       // this is where your main file can set the visible property of your movieclip

    when the user click the picture , the video is loaded and
    starts to play ---- so far everything is working fine
    now what I want to do is, once the video finishes playing (

  • Help needed in accessing the url from which a swf file has been loaded

    Hi All,
    Can anyone help me out in finding the url of the swf file
    from which it has been loaded? The purpose of the url is, I am
    loading some flv files using relative path. I just want to achieve
    the same by appending the relative path to the parent swf url from
    where the parent was loaded.
    I am a newbie to AS3, So please don t mind if this is a silly
    question.
    Can anyone help me on this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Prabakaran Srinivasan.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply. I think the option you gave is only
    applicable when the AS3 class comes in the DisplayObject hierarchy.
    I want this information in an AS3 class which does not extend any
    of the Sprite or its super class hierarchy. Can you let me know the
    possibility of fetching the value from such a class which i
    specified???
    Thanks,

  • Problem with displaying the data from Database on swf file.

    Hi ,
      I am new to flash.Thanks in Advance Please help me....
    Actually my requirement is my application consists a button(submit_Btn) when we click on the button(submit_Btn), each time it must to database(through servlet) and brings the data from database and places it on the flash swf file.Here my problem is for the first time when we click on the button it goes to database and place the data(which was returned from database) on the swf file.Next  when we click on the button for the second time(or anytime) it is not going  and bringing the new data from database(if some data is modified in database or not),Infact it is showing the old data(the data that was collected from previous ClickListener) only on the swf file and it is also not showing any complile time or run time error.
    my Code looks like this:
    submit_Btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,onCheck2);
    function onCheck2(evnt:MouseEvent):void {
    var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
        var xmlurl:String = "http://localhost:8888/xmlServlet";
        var xmlrequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest(xmlurl);
    xmlLoader.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.TEXT;
    xmlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, xmlcompleteHandler);
    xmlLoader.load(xmlrequest);
    function xmlcompleteHandler(event:Event):void {
        var loader:URLLoader = URLLoader(event.target);
        var succData:String=loader.data;
            var xmlData:XML = new XML();
            var xmlList:XMLList;
            xmlData = XML(loader.data);
            xmlList = xmlData.children();
            for (var i=0; i<xmlList.length(); i++) {
                for (var n=0; n<xmlData.UserHumanap[i].HumanapDot.length(); n++) {
                        var x_coordinate:Number = xmlData.UserHumanap[i].HumanapDot[n].@x;
                        var y_coordinate:Number = xmlData.UserHumanap[i].HumanapDot[n].@y;
                        var point2:Point = new Point(x_coordinate,y_coordinate);
                        var circle:Sprite = new Sprite();
                        circle.graphics.beginFill(0x00ff00);
                        circle.graphics.drawCircle(point2.x,point2.y,3);   //Placing the data as dots on the swf file
    Thanks in Advance.......Please Help me..........
    its Urgent..........
    Thanks,
    Swarthi

    Checkout following line in your code
    var xmlurl:String = "http://localhost:8888/xmlServlet";
    now change it to
    var xmlurl:String = "http://localhost:8888/xmlServlet?random="+String(MAth.random());
    I think you will get the point now

    I think you'll need to use localConnection.

  • Targeting the timeline of a loaded swf - AS2

    I'm loading an external swf into a project and I want to be able to start and stop the loaded swfs timeline at will....
    I'm loading swf into an MC:
    loadMovie("myFile.swf", swfHolder_mc);

    you can reference the loaded swf's main timeline by referencing swfHolder_mc AFTER loading is complete and the swf is initialized.

  • Calling a function in a flex app from a loaded SWF

    How can I call a function in a flex application from a loaded
    swf file?

    Two ways:
    Application.application returns a reference to the top-level
    application scope. You can access any public member, var, function,
    component, etc through that reference.
    Dispatch an event event form the loaded swf and use a event
    handler in the main app. All the gurus advise this as best
    practice, to ensure "loose coupling" It is also pretty easy,
    especially if you use a bubbling event.

  • Trouble Playing A loaded 'SWF' file in the pain timeline

    Hey there. I have created a presentation that loads
    interactive SWF movies into a 'target' movie clip on the main
    timeline.
    As you progress through the presentation different SWF movies
    are loaded into the presentation. And this in turn allows me to
    change the presentations content quickly and easily for different
    clients.
    These SWF's use some of the flash preloaded content objects
    like combo box's and the like.
    However when these SWF's are called into the main
    presentation they cease to work properly.
    They work fine when tested independently of the main
    presentation.
    Does anyone know how I may be able to get these SWF's to work
    properly?
    Cheers Fletch

    The first thing to do is check the scoping in your loaded
    SWF. Any references to _root, for example, mean something different
    once the SWF is loaded into your wrapper movie.
    Also, some of the V2 components don't work properly when
    their SWF is loaded into another SWF. There's a Tech Note and easy
    workaround here:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_19278
    Good luck!

  • Loading class from an external .swf file

    Hi,
    My flash application has lots of resources which will change all the time. In order to keep the the user from having to download my main .swf file over and over again, and in order to keep the main file's size low, I would like to put the resources into separate .swf files and load them dynamically from a url using a Loader.
    Once downloaded I would like to extract the classes that are in the resource swf and use them in the main swf. Can anyone share some code for doing this? Note that I am not just interested in using a symbol from the resource swf. I would like to use a class, with all of its methods and everything, and my main swf does not contain the class definition. Only the resource swf does.
    Thanks!!

    This is a great question for flash programming.
    And when you know the answer to this, you are likely to use it on daily basis like the top level programmers  of an agency.
    ApplicationDomain is your answer and the adobe docs has a chapter on this.
    ApplicationDomain is where all of your classes will be loaded into and when you use a loader you have the ability to target this with the laoderContext.
    AplicationDomain.currentDomain loads all classes into the main app and if your main app already has these classes, then the app uses the parents classes
    new Application.Domain() specifies a seperate repo of classes that are loaded in so that classes in the main app will not be confused by the classes in a loaded swf. that refer to the same names.
    this locks down the communication between the swfs but will use the newer updated classes on the child when a child is loaded in with the same class names as the parents.
    new ApplicationDomain(currentDomain)  will enclose a new repo with the parent repo of the class definitions.

  • Loading swf files from an iPhone Air App

    Although the faq says its possible ( http://bit.ly/gyxmCo  )  I can't seem to load .swf files from my app.
    There's no .AS code in the .swf file I'm trying to load.
    PNG files load with no problems, swf's fail.
    A working example would be appreciated instead of suggestions, I've spent the entire day trying out suggestions
    regards,
    Martijn

    Because I can't see any library assets in an as2.0 file.
    I've discovered that the swf fails to load as soon as you make a symbol 'export for actionscript'
    probably because it will then create a class. So you can only load SWF's as simple pictures or animations, you cant use it as an asset library with multiple animations/images/sounds in it..
    As for you other questions:
    it doesnt matter if the file is local or on the web. same results
    I created the swf file from a fla in CS4,  and I'm compiling my air project that loads the swf  with FlashDevelop.

  • How load swf file (flash 8) with adobe captivate 3 without enter the HTML?

    How load swf file (flash 8) with adobe captivate 3 without enter the HTML?

    Hi SaSQuaCh69247,
    Issue 1 :- Select the SWF file in library, right click, and
    select update.
    Issue 2 :- Actually it could be valid for Issue 1 also. It
    seems like SWF file you are trying to import, does some action
    like, importing another swf or connecting to server on the first
    frame itself. Captivate will try to play the first frame of SWF
    when you import them. Try creating a keyframe with the stop action
    as the first frame in your SWF, and see if you still have the
    issue.
    Issue 3 :- The approach I am mentioning over here is
    generally the last approach which I will take in such scenerios,
    but since you have already experimented a little, so try this.
    Go to C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application
    Data\Adobe\Adobe Captivate
    Rename captivate_v20.dat as captivate_v20_org.dat.
    Restart Captivate Application.

  • Extracting portions of the timeline from iMovie to create a 'Sound File'

    Hello
    I recently used my Cannon GL2 as a field recorder to record 16 bit audio sound effects.
    I'd like to extract certain portions of the timeline to create various 'Sound Files' which will be used later (as sound effects), in either iMovie, or FCE HD.
    In iMovie HD, the only method I'm familiar with to extract a portion of the timeline to a 'Sound File', is to FIRST export that portion to a Quicktime File. Then I use 'Sound Studio 2.2.4' to import the Quicktime File. In Sound Studio, I can then create either an AIFF File, or Wav File.
    From there, I open iTunes, and import the Wav File. Now I convert that Wav File to an MP3 (if I need to compress the size of the file).
    I know I can import Raw DV Video Files (Captures), into Garage Band, but then I can't export that edited project into a Sound File.
    But I do know I can use Garage Band to edit (EQ), a portion of the timeline, then Export that portion (as I explained above). But I'm still going through some extra steps .....
    With all I'm mentioned, perhaps I need to get another software program in order to eliminate a step on my way to exporting a portion of a Video timeline from either iMovie, or FCE, and get straight to creating a sound file suitable for later import back into FCE, or iMovie?
    Thanx for your comments
    Mike

    Hey Piero
    Comestah?
    I'm an Italiano too My Granparents are from Bari
    Well yes thank you - that certainly answered part of my question
    Now I wonder if I can extract just a 'PORTION' of the timeline? I tried to insert division points without actually cutting out all the unwanted stuff, and highlighted just that portion, but the Audio Extract process reverts back to extracting the ENITIRE timeline. So I guess I'd have to actually cut and delete all the unwanted parts, then 'save as' to that NEW iMovie project reflecting just that edit in order to extract JUST that audio piece?
    I wonder if the process is more precise in FCE?
    Gracias
    Mike

  • CPU/Memory Usage increases when loading SWF files in AIR.

    Hi,
    We face the below mentioned problem. Would be great if someone could help us.
    Due to problems with uploading the attachment here, please send a email to the following email-id ([email protected]) and I shall send the attachment in response.
    CPU/Memory usage increases drastically while moving the SWC components and loading the SWF Files.
    "Problem Description" - On executing the sample application, a window with multiple objects is shown. The loaded SWC components in flex consume too much Memory and CPU cycles. This is visible in TaskManager. On dragging one of the object, CPU  / memory usage increases drastically.
    "Steps to Reproduce" -
    Draggable window is placed at the bottom in the sample application with Text indication.
    Drag the indicated window.
    "Actual Result" - System's CPU usage increasing drastically  around 50% to 60 %.
    "Expected Result" - Drastical increase in memory\CPU should not occur.
    "Any Workarounds" - No"
    Thanks in advance.

    You can control your external swf from your main.swf in the following method:
    loadswf(clips[0]);
    function loadswf(tmp:String):void{
        passedString=tmp;
        ldr= new Loader();
        ldr.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, progressListener);
        ldr.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, swfLoaded);
        ldr.load(new URLRequest(animPath+tmp));
        function progressListener (e:ProgressEvent):void{
            ploader.visible=true;
        function swfLoaded(e:Event):void {
            mcExt = e.target.content as MovieClip;
            ldr.contentLoaderInfo.removeEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, swfLoaded);
            mcExt.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,onEnterfn);
            ploader.visible=false;
            addChild(mcExt);
    function onEnterfn(e:Event):void{
        var num:int=mcExt.currentFrame;
        switch(passedString){
            case clips[0]:
                if (num==1) mcExt.play();
                if (num==9) {
                   mcExt.skipmc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,skipfn);
                    function skipfn(e:MouseEvent):void{
                        mcExt.stop();
                       mcExt.removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,onEnterfn);
                        gotoAndStop("help");
                if (num==mcExt.totalFrames){
                   mcExt.removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,onEnterfn);
                    gotoAndStop("help");
                break;
