Mpeg-2 at 320

Use compressor to save mpeg-2 file at size 320x. I am not able to get custom size on mpeg-2. Client want video save as mpeg-2 and size 320. How?

The MPEG-1 format was created before 16x9 existed. So MPEG-1 does not do 16x9.
Your client can also demand that you provide them with a live, actual unicorn. Unfortunately their demands do not mesh with reality. So they will have to decide, do they want MPEG-1 (which means 4x3) or do they want 16x9 (in which case you can give them an MPEG-4 file).
Or another alternative would be to put black bars at the top and bottom of the video to letterbox the video.
I would also suggest you stop saying, "mpeg file". There is MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4. Three very different beasts. You can give your client an 16x9 MPEG-4 file that in all honesty is an "mpeg file", but I take it they want MPEG-1.

  • Best setting for mpeg streamclip conversion of mpeg2 to mov

Through this forum I learned about mpeg streamclip. Thanks so much! Now I am able to convert an mpeg to a mov and keep the audio and quality, etc. Now my problem is that I am building a site, refering to the movies externally so they play in quicktime, which is working but they take too long to load and play. The info is:
    Format: MPEG-4 Video, 320 x 240, Millions AAC, Stereo, 48.000kHz
    FPS: 15
    Data Size: 1.23 MB
    DRate: 340.34 kbits/sec
    Time: 00:00:02.10/15
    Duration: 00:00:30.6/15
    Size: 320 x 240 pixels
That's not a big file but for some reason it's taking long to load. I've seen so many clips online that just play right away and they seam long. What am I doing incorrect when I exported to Quicktime?
Thanks in advance for any help. I've spent way too much time on this part of this project!

Use QuickTime Pro and encode video with H.264. Take a look at this post and look for 'Fast-Start.'

  • Unable to view .asf video

I could use some help. I just got a new MacBook after a having gotten frustrated with the PC world, however the transition has been frustrating.
My problem is in viewing and hopefully being able to edit video I have recorded on an RCA Lyra 2780 DVR. The clips (of a medical procedure) play on the recorder and my work PC (Windows Media Player).
My MacBook recognized the DVR (ie I could see the files listed) but when I tried to play one or import them into iMovie I got the "Error opening movie" message. After reading some posts I downloaded Flip4Mac software and was able to click on files and not get the error message any longer but when the Quicktime window opened and I hit play the timer began to count down but no images visable. When I try to import in to iMovie it works on opening the file but get to "less than one minute remaining" but never finishes.
    File Format:Microsoft MPEG Layer-3, Stereo, 32.000 kHz

    Hi Lung Doc,
I did find a program that will fit your needs. It is at:
    http://www.easywma.com/
This allows quick and easy conversions to another file type so you can use them in other OS X applications such as QT or iMovie. Please be aware however that editing after conversion in QT would require the upgrade to QTPro.

  • ITunes 10.6.1.7 -  The Track Number of any song i play in iTunes is being erased! PLEASE HELP!

    Hi!
I'm experiencing a very weird bug in iTunes 10.6.7 (64-bit) - on Windows 7. What happens?
With some of the songs, when I use my Left Mouse Button to double-click the song (to play it!) in the music library (in iTunes of course), the song loses the meta-data of the total number of tracks.
The setup of my iTunes is as follows:
Each of my songs are part of different albums, so that means that every song has meta-data of the total number of tracks of the album its part of.
Every song in my music library has been converted by iTunes (so they all have the same specs). Here are those specs:
(Forgive me if I use different words for the technical terms, I'm working with an iTunes in my own native language so I don't know all the english equivalent words.)
    Type: MPEG-audiofile
    Bitspeed: 320 kbps
    Samplefrequence: 44,100 kHz
    Categorization: MPEG-1, Layer 3
    Channels: Joint Stereo
    ID3-tag: v2.3
The following spec is the only thing I can think of that is significantly different between the songs that could be the cause of the bug.
Here is the information on this specific spec of one of the songs which has this problem:
    Coded with: iTunes 10.6.0.40
My question is: is there anyone who experiences the same problem with this version of iTunes? Were you able to fix it? Or any advice?
    Thank you for your time!

Issue solved - It turns out that the QuickTime version on my PC was 6.5 and I needed to update to version 7.6 or higher to allow videos to play in iTunes. I updated to QuickTime version 7.7 and then added the old podcast folder to iTunes while in podcasts. This found all video podcast content and then the auto reorg moved all folders to the new podcast directory. For the videos I manually moved earlier, I had to move (not copy) them back to the old directory or folder then add that old folder and they were now in the right directory and viewable in iTunes.

  • Exporting FCP HDV Sequence To MPG-1

    (Re-Posted From FCP Forum)
I need to compress a 60 minute 16:9 video for the web.
It's HDV, in an HDV timeline, in FCP5.
I'm using a 2 minute test clip while I try to figure it out.
I've tried using Quicktime Conversion (since I'm a little bit familiar with it) and it doesn't offer MPG-1. I see MPG-4 and MPG IMX, etc.
I've also tried the MPG-1 setting in Compressor but it dims out the frame size options in the geometry pane. So the resulting MPG's are the wrong aspect ratio.
I have a workflow on the PC that I used prior to HDV by exporting AVI from Premiere into TMPGEnc Plus for MPG compression. So I decided to try and get an AVI to use with that. I used the Quicktime conversion to AVI and my two minute clip ended up at 16GB. Something's not quite right with that.
SO... hopefully somebody knows the magic word to make compressor let me change the frame size of my MPG (don't know why it wouldn't let me). OR... someone knows how to make Quicktime let me make an MPG1.
    Thanks in advance...

    Compressor will only output MPEG-1 at 320 x 240 or 352 x 240. Thus, you can't output HD resolution using Compressor's or QuickTime's MPEG-1 codec.
If you really need to do HD resolution with MPEG-1 on the Macintosh then you should check out Digigami's MegaPEG product.
    http://www.digigami.com/megapeg/
Also, the ten to twenty-five dollar MPEG2 Works product(s) supports custom MPEG-1 sizes, but I don't know if they will support something as large as HD.

  • Video is jerky from my itunes download

I just downloaded the daily show and played it thru quicktime 7. The video is frozen and jerky. It's cos my system is pretty marginal I know. But vodcasts and other mp4 video plays fine. It's just that the daily show has an fps of 30 and stereo sound, my system can't handle it. Is there any way of reducing the quality or otherwise working around this? The lower fps stuff looks good enough and plays well.

Well that's the point I don't want to buy a new computer when this one plays most video I want. Here's a good comparison:
    Video: Bill Gates runs like a girl (podcast). AAC stereo (L R), 44.100 KHz, MPEG-4 Video, 320 x 240, 29.97 fps, 786.45 kbits/sec. PLAYS FINE
Video: Daily show (bought from itunes). MPEG-4 audio (protected),stereo, 44.100 KHz, VRML media, 320 x 216, 29.97 fps, 654.94 kbits/sec. PLAYS VERY BADLY.
Can someone explain why the first video plays much better than the second, when it has a higher resolution and bit-rate? Also what is VRML media, is it a video codec?

  • Copy a VCD?

I'm not exactly sure where to post this question but here goes: I need to copy a home movie on VCD for a friend. I got the VCD to play on my iBook using QT but I don't know how to copy it.
I downloaded VCD Copy X but could only copy the MPEGAV.dat file and not all of the other folders and the .dat file is not sufficient to copy the home movie.
It's not worth it to buy any software (e.g. Toast) for this project but I would like to help her out.
Am I missing the obvious here? Is there a simpler way to copy the movie on to my iBook's HD and then burn a DVD of it? (Is there also a way to make her a VCD copy of it - it's for a family member abroad who may not have a DVD player)?

    LT and NH
    If I follow NH's directions,
after clicking "Save" button, I get this error message in a Disk Utility Progess pop-up box: "Unable to create 'VCDCopyLaniSL05.cdr' - Input/output error." (Note: when I went into Disk Utility, I clicked on what I later learned is the "disc session" (the indented CD Icon titled "694.4 MB Untitled 0") instead of the whole Disc Icon (titled "797.4 MB MatshitaDVD-R UJ-845E)
When I first tried LT's directions, I couldn't get it to work but as I wrote it out and duplicated it in this reply, it worked (and I detailed the steps so far at the end of this post) ..but before burning the DVD, I have 2 more questions (couldn't figure it out on Apple's support pages):
    1. This home movie is actually on 3 VCDs - Can I copy all 3 on to a single DVD and if yes, How?
    2. My friend needs another copy to send to family in a country where they at best can play VCDs. Can I make a copy (I guess I'll have to use 3 CDs) in VCD format and if yes, can I use any CD media (e.g. CD-R) and will the size be sufficient? (even though the MPEGAV.dat says data size is 795.4, in disk utility, the session CD icon had capacity at something like 695.x MB whereas the complete Disk was listed as 795.4 MB)
    Original VCD Info:
    ISO 9660 File System
Capacity: 62 KB (this didn't make sense to me)
Movie info (from QT playing MPEGAV.dat from original VCD):
    Format: MPEG 1 Muxed 320
    Source: /Volumes/TOX-VCD/MPEGAV/MUSIC01.DAT
    Data size: 795.41 MB
FYI: If I follow LT's directions above according to How to copy previously-burned DVD-R video discs, the following happens:
    1. I select the "disk" not just the session. For Max OS X 10.4 and Later, I go to File and choose New and Image from "?" - "Disk Image From (Select a Device)" is not in bold so can't be chosen as an option. The bolded options are "Blank Disk Image" and "Disk Image from Folder".
    2. If I choose Disk Image from Folder and click on the CD icon in the upper sidebar, all the VCD's folders (CDDA, CDI, EXT, MPEGAV, SEGMENT, and VCD are listed in the first column). At the bottom I can choose "IMAGE"
    3. then I get the New Image From Folder box and Save As "COPYVCD", on "Desktop", Image Format "DVD/CD Master", and Encryption "None"
    4. It copied and converted and I ejected the original VCD. There appeared in the disk listing (and on the desktop) a diskimage icon titled "TOX-VCD.cdr" (I'm not sure why it didn't save under my name "COPYVCD"

  • Need help with MPEG1,2,4 - QT vs. DVD

I tried burning some public domain Betty Boop cartoons to DVD. Upon playing back the DVD, some had good video but no sound; others had decent sound but pretty bad video.
Playing in QT, all play okay. Going into the Video TS folder and playing the VTS files from there, some have no video but ok audio, and some the opposite. Same is true playing the VTS files in MPEGStreamclip. I am able to isolate some of the problems but am confused with others. Examples, by titles (BB=Betty Boop):
“BB-Chess-Nuts” - DVD=good video with no audio. QT=good video, good audio. QT tells me it is MPEG-2 Muxed. 640x480. (Toast tells me the video is MPEG2 and the audio is MPEG1).
“BB-Bamboo Isle” - DVD=bad video, ok audio. QT= good video, good audio. QT tells me it is MPEG-4 vid, AAC aud. 320x240. (Toast tells me it is MPEG-4 vid and MPEG-4 aud.)
“BB_Old Man of the Mountain” - DVD=bad video, ok audio. QT=good video, good audio. QT tells me it is MPEG1 Muxed. (Toast tells me it is MPEG-1 vid and MPEG-1 aud.)
I am in OS 10.3.9, QT 7.1 Pro., Toast Titanium 7.0.1
Any ideas, help will be appreciated.
    nÔÔdle--hëad

You should search the discount bin at your favorite DVD store. Titles like these can be had for under $10.
You will always get bad video when moving from MPEG-1 dimensions (320 width) to MPEG-2 (DVD size is 720).
Nothing you can do about this fact. Pixels are really only doubling in size when you export to MPEG-2 size. Same facts with your MPEG-4 file.
You must always use MPEG Streamclip for these exports. QuickTime Pro can't extract audio from muxed file formats (MPEG 1 or 2).

  • Can't seem to edit, save or export with QT Pro 7 on some movie files

The movies I'm trying to edit, save or export are:
    AAC, Stereo, 32.000 kHz
    MPEG-4 Video, 320 x 240, Millions
Other options seem to be not available too : copy, cut, extract, trim, etc. Basically all editing functions.
I am using QT 7 Pro
    I am using Mac OS X 10.4.x
I can successfully edit other movies.
Any ideas what might be happening?

It's very easy for a QuickTime author to "Save As Un-Editable" using AppleScript.
    http://www.apple.com/applescript/quicktime/
Even the owner of the file must use it on a "copy" because of its power.

  • Email notification for motion detection on webcanm center

no matter what i do, or what e-mail address i use, i run into an "starttls" errorI have used my emailgoogle emailyahoo email any one have a solution please?has anyone ever gotten the email function on motion detection to work ?(btw using VISTA (aka crap) sigh?

    Try this -
    MPEG-4
    Resoultion : 320 x 240
    Video quality
    Fixed quality  Normal
    max frame rate 30 fps
    MPJEG seting
    Resolution: 320 x 240
    Fixed quality Normal
    Max frame rate 30 fps
    2.  Motion detection settings are fine...
Also you can try Mobile Streaming -
RTSP by default uses port 554, so you should forward port 554 into the static LAN IP of the camera...Once you do this, you can type in a URL from our cell phone browser like rtsp://MyName.MyLinksysCamera.com:554/xxxxx (where xxxxx is the access code...
Having the access code as part of the URL allows you to use a custom home page on your phone to instantly select the stream to view and no username or password prompt is required...Keep in mind that some mobile devices and cell phones support RTSP, but at this time many do not...Some phones like the iPhone do not support RTSP at this time. Check with your wireless carrier for more details if their network or wireless hardware supports the RTSP protocol...

  • Quicktime - got sound no video

Hi there - hope you can help. I am a very basic user. Have some videos which used to play fine (they are realy precious ones of my kids as babies etc) and now suddenly they won't play the images. Got sound. Blank white screen. They were taken on my digital camera.
I have been searching for days and have looked through some other messages in this forum and tried a few of the basic things suggested with the Quicktime settings to no avail. The only thing I haven't tried is looking for the codecs cause I don't understand what I need or where to look. I looked in "Quicktime Inspector" and found the following info -
    Format u-law 2:1 mono, 8.000KHZ, MPEG-4 Video, 320x240, millions.
    Movie FPS: 20.00
Please help! Will be eternally grateful.

    Hi,
I'm having same problem. My mp4 films used to work fine, now I only get sound, no video. Same thing in QT-player, and quickview. iTunes and VLC play the files fine. The problem just appeared for no apparent reason. Really frustrating. Funny thing is tough, that some mp4 files work.
One of the clips that's NOT working is:
    MPEG-4 (Perian), 320 x 240,
    AAC, Stereo (L R), 44,100 kHz
One of the clips that WORK is:
    MPEG-4 (Perian), 320 x 262,
    AAC, Mono, 22,050 kHz
Doesn't really make sense to me. Could the audio-rate have something to do with this?
    I have: QT pro 7.4.5
I tried to remove the components somebody suggested in another thread, but no help. I even tried to remove all the QT components. No help. I have also installed Perian again. no help..
Any suggestion and help would be appreciated.

  • 320 vs. 480 width for MPEG Handbrake settings

I have been using Handbrake for a while now and have used the exact settings recommended on the following site:
    http://howto.diveintomark.org/ipod-dvd-ripping-guide/
However, after reading several posts, I now know that you can set the width to 480 in MPEG (I haven't tried h.264 yet because it didn't work the first time I tried it and now that I've read enough to understand some of my settings might have been off, I'm not sure the extra encoding time and possible battery drainage is worth it).
My question is, is there a noticeable difference in video quality on the ipod between MPEG files using 480 as the width and files using 320? Or is it only on a TV that you'd notice? And how much would the file size increase by changing that one setting? Right now I'm able to get about 2 movies per GB, with an average length per movie about 132 minutes.
I have been reasonably happy with the video quality of what I've encoded so far, though I do notice occasional pixelation. Any particular settings I need to change to improve that problem?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the test results. Very interesting, looking at tests 3 and 5. I imagine that the 2 pass encoding had a little to do with it (not only can it improve image quality, but it it does that by eliminating un-needed data in any given frame and adding them when needed, making for a slightly smaller file size and better image quality). But that doesn't fully explain the file sizes for test 3 and 5, with their different sampling rates.
Well, remember that when you select an averege bitrate, it's just that...an average. You can select 1000 kbps, but that doesn't mean that every frame is encoded at that rate. It's just that HandBrake will keep that as a target and will sample around that number. You could have one third of your movie sampled at 900 kbps, one third sample at your set target 1000kbps, and another third at 1100 kbps. That's still an average of 1000kbps, but a total size of 3000 kb. Something happened with either test 3 or five (or both) that made them have the same file size. Still though, that's amusing.
As for the pixelation, I'm really stumped as to why any of them have pixelation. Apple says those formats (at those exact sizes) should work. But, seeing the little blocks in movies (like a wall or ther sky) isn't new. If you look closely (in iTunes), I'll bet that the blocks seem to be different colors. That might be because of HandBrake detecting different shades of color on a solid object (a wall or something). So, it tries to compensate (with the limited space it has in the screen) to display different colors. This is how you get blocks.
It's still strange though, and I don't know of any setting that might fix it. Play around with it a little bit and you might find something. I don't know how bad you pixelation is so I can't really get more specific than that. But hey, it's better than the guys who's movies won't even show up (or play) on their video iPods!

alles was im Hintergrund lüft könnte stören.

  • Shuttering MPEG HD - BUG?

  • Keynote-to-Quicktime-Mpeg-No Audio

    Hi all,
-Made a great Keynote presentation with audio.
    -Exported as Quicktime file.
-Trying to use Quicktime PRO to make into MPEG.
-MPEG doesn't recognize the audio file
Can someone help me merge the two into the MPEG? The Quicktime file plays the audio with video, but upon condensing the file to MPEG, splits them up.
    Thanks much,
    blahgeetsa

I see my option to convert to Mpeg-4...I'm trying to email a large 41mb Quicktime file to a client....don't need alot of bells and whistles, just the ability to make the file palatable.
Since you say the QT Pro does not seem to like your source file audio and you still refrain from stating what compression formats and/or workflow was used in the source file, I would probably recommend you try MPEG Streamclip (free) here to eliminate certain problems you may have had with QT Pro. This application contains an "iPod" preset option which may suit your purposes and preserve your audio content at the same time. In any case, the iPod preset can be found in the "Export to MPEG-4" File menu option window. If you download the beta 2 version, you have a number of display size options (basically 640 or 320 widths at various preset aspect ratios) which may or may not suit your source file whose display size you have yet to mention. Suffice it to say, the smaller the display size, the the higher the quality you can achieve in a smaller file size. If the preset options don't suit your needs, you can, of course, modify them as you wish. Since you neglected to mention the duration of your source movie, it is difficult to estimate how small you can make your target file. Basically, a 320x240 display, reasonably good quality H.264/AAC (mono) file can be made at about 384 Kbps total average data rate (320 video/64 audio) which equates to slightly less than 4 MBs/min of duration. An MPEG-4 would require roughly 3 times as much space for the same quality or you could settle for poorer quality at the same data rate. Larger display sizes in the iPod can go as high as 12 MBs/min, so I assume you are will want to stick to the lower end data rates. Lower data rates are possible, but will undoubtedly further reduce the final audio/video quality.
