MS-Office security patch of each language?

i am having Office 2010 on my reference image it is necessary to install language packs? MS-Office by default consists of language pack? while during software updates deployment just need to select diffrent OS language language pack updates or need to
select MS-Office security patch of each language?

While during software updates deployment just need to select diffrent OS language language pack updates or need to select MS-Office security patch of each language?
You need English and for Service Packs you also need the languages.
If you don't add the language for your software updates, this will happen:

So start by checking the reports and see what's missing.

For each of the security bulletin, you would be having affected software. So first of all, you need to find out which  product/software has triggered this security alert, then you have to install the appropriate fix for it.
Since the list what you have given is big, I took the first one as an example.
If you go to this link https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/security/ms13-084.aspx, you would be having a list of affected software section. Find the list of software's mentioned in this article which got installed in the server/servers which triggered
an alert from your security tool, then  download the corresponding fix for it and apply it.

  • Creating new databases after latest security patch applied

    10.2.0.4
If I create a database AFTEr applying the opatch for the October 2009 security patch, do I need to also run:
    @catbundle.sql cpu apply
Or is it included in the create database? I use the DBCA to create new databases.

    user8574962 wrote:
This is what Oracle states on metalink doc id: 422303.1
Once the bundle patch or the Critical Patch Update (CPU) patch is applied on an ORACLE_HOME should you run post-installation scripts for every newly created Oracle database using the same ORACLE_HOME?
    Solution
This should be documented in the patch's README as the answer will vary with each patch.
If the patch's README is not documented, then the Post Install tasks should be run.
And this is what the OCTCPU09 README says:
3.3.3 Post Installation Instructions for Databases Created or Upgraded after Installation of CPUOct2009 in the Oracle Home
These instructions are for both non-RAC environments and RAC environments when a database is created or upgraded after the installation of CPUOct2009.
You must execute the steps in Section 3.3.2.1, "Loading Modified .sql Files into the Database" for any new database only if it was created by any of the following methods:
Using DBCA (Database Configuration Assistant) to select a sample database (General, Data Warehouse, Transaction Processing)
Using a script that was created by DBCA that creates a database from a sample database
Hope that helps.Point taken that it could vary by patchset, but those particular instructions quoted square exactly with what I had said. To quote with emphasis:
"You must execute the steps . . . for any new database *only if* it was created by any of the following methods . . ."
And what are those methods? Creating the database from a sample (pre-patch) database. If one uses dbca to create a 'custom' database, the resulting scripts will start from scratch with a CREATE DATABASE command - no pre-patch version sample or seed database involved.

  • Latest Security Patch for Oracle DB 10.2.0.4 on 11.5.10.2 environment

We have SUNOS 5.10 with database 10.2.0.4 on 11.5.10.2 environment. The requirement is to patch latest security patch.
last patch was done 17-FEB-2009 ( retrived from registry$history). So, i would like to apply the latest security patch.
Please somebody let me know which one is the latest patch to be applied for this environment.
    Thanks

    Hi Hussein,
The customer can install CPU Patch or PSU Patch on top of 10.2.0.4. I agree with you but I think you are misunderstanding for what I am trying to say. Why not go for the latest Patch Set 4 (10.2.0.5) and then apply CPU Patch 9952270 or PSU Patch 9952230 on top of it (recommended). Every quarter, Oracle provides Critical Patch Updates (CPU) to address security vulnerabilities, and Patch Set Updates (PSU) to address proactive, critical fixes and security vulnerabilities. When deciding for CPU or PSU, please consider the following guidelines:
Critical Patch Updates and Patch Set Updates
The Patch Set Updates and Critical Patch Updates that are released each quarter contain the same security fixes. However, they use different patching mechanisms, and Patch Set Updates include both security and recommended bug fixes. Consider the following guidelines when you are deciding to apply Patch Set Updates instead of Critical Patch Updates.
    1) Critical Patch Updates are applied only on the base release version, for example 10.2.0.4.0.
    2) Patch Set Updates can be applied on the base release version or on any earlier Patch Set Update. For example, 11.1.0.7.2 can be applied on 11.1.0.7.1 and 11.1.0.7.0.
    3) Once a Patch Set Update has been applied, the recommended way to get future security content is to apply subsequent Patch Set Updates. Reverting from an applied
Patch Set Update back to the Critical Patch Update, while technically possible, requires significant time and effort, and is not advised.

  • 11-May security patch trouble

I applied the 8.0.1 security patch to CF version 8,0,1,195765 Standard.
All data sources verify OK when checked through the CF Administrator, but when running any application, all database connections fail.Pages that do not involve a data connection work fine.
    The error is:
Can't find data source "TheDatabaseName" or, when using the client variables database a more generic "Operation failed on the ClientVariables data source."
I backed out the update, and things work again.
All patches up to now have been applied. (Specifically: C:/ColdFusion8/runtime/../lib/updates/hf801-1875.jar;   C:/ColdFusion8/runtime/../lib/updates/hf801-1878.jar;   C:/ColdFusion8/runtime/../lib/updates/hf801-77218.jar;   C:/ColdFusion8/runtime/../lib/updates/chf8010003.jar;  )
Anyone have an idea about what's going on here?

Well this is, and always has been, a community support forum.  I.E. a place for users who share in the use of tools and products to gather and discuss.  It has never been an offical channel for support form Adobe nor Macromedia before them nor Allair before them.
As Ben Forta is an offical ColdFusion Evangilist and an actual Adobe employee, I'm not too bothered by his blog being a more direct connection then this commuity forum.
Now if you want to say something about the offical Technote being broadcast that it has been updated.  Now that would be something I would get behind.

  • Find missing security Patches

    Hello team,
Is there anyway to find out all the security patches we are missing in our production environment.
    Thanks
    Ammu

Please refer to (Oracle E-Business Suite Releases 11i and 12 Critical Patch Update Knowledge Document (October 2013) (Doc ID 1585639.1)).
You can identify the missing patches by following the same approach for identifying them at each tier node (i.e. query AD_BUGS, use "opatch lsinventory", ..etc).
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • IMac suddenly unstable after last security patch

I don't remember exactly when I updated my OS with the last security patch, but I do know that before that time my machine was rock-solid, never crashing. Since that update it crashes about 4 or 5 times per day. Sometimes I get the gray screen of near death, sometimes I simply get a freeze. There's no other new software or hardware that could account for my problems - just the OS security patch.
The crashes appear to be random. Sometimes when I launch Safari, once or twice while reading mail, and several times while the machine was sitting idle. I'm not even sure where to start looking for a potential conflict. It's been a long, long time since I had to diagnose an unstable Mac. Any guidance would be appreciated.

The problems you're describing are identical to mine over the past few weeks. The computer will be running when I walk away. It goes to sleep (all black screen) and when I return and wiggle the mouse the screen will wake at full brightness, but often the clock in the top right stopped minutes or hours earlier. Can't force quit - have to hold the power button to restart.
After much research on a variety of boards, I deleted the InputManagers from User/Library/InputManagers and manually removed others. I've been running Console and individually tracking down each error that seems worth consideration. This topic needs more attention. I've contributed to another thread here:

  • Quarterly Security Patch (CPU07JAN) Install takes over 4 hours

Has anyone else found the quarterly security patch installation times to be unreasonable? Just finished rolling out Jan 07's CPU and it took 4.5 hours for one box. This was on a Sun E4500 w 4 CPUs and 8 GB ram patching Enterprise Edition 10.1.0.4. Patching Standard edition on a smaller box takes less than 2 hours. The only downtime these databases have is for the quarterly patches, and to have the systems down for this long once a quarter is unreasonable. I opened a service request with Oracle, but they danced around the issue saying patch times really depend on the system and environment. Most of the time spent while running opatch is in 'ar' while rolling back the previous patch or patching archive files. The system load is very low during this time so its not a resource constraint. No other processes are running during the patches. This issue has been consistent with each set of quarterly patches, and it seems to get a little slower every quarter. Any insight would be appreciated. Suggesting RAC is not an acceptable solution.

This is a well known issue by now. I think Oracle is trying to do something in this regard. The reason it takes long time is the "ar" command as you just said, but here Oracle has less choices, the "ar" archives one .o at a time and when there are so many .o's to be changed it takes so much time, because "ar" is not very quick, esp on Sun platforms.

  • Do you push non-security patches? (i.e. hotfixes, product updates, etc.)

I work for an organization with about 11,000 computers, and we are switching from Altiris/SMP to SCCM. We've always struggled with pushing patches in SMP, and have experienced a lot of issues with their patching product (especially lately). Now I've always
been a big proponent of preventive maintenance, so I have always been on the side that we should push hotfixes, and product updates, along with security related patches. Unfortunately we have had a bad spell with patching lately, and I am starting to rethink
    this strategy.
I was curious what the general consensus is. We don't have a lot of time for patching, and I am worried the issues with non-security patches are going to distract us away from patching that really is critical. Basically consider anything that has
    a severity rating of 'none'.
So what is the general consensus; do you only push security updates, or do you push non security updates too?
    Appreciate your time.

in our organisation (45,000 workstations), we adopted ConfigMgr and Windows7 at the same time.
(we migrated from WinXP and HP CA / Radia).
When we did this, I made the decision "if there's a patch in the catalog, and it's Required on at least 1 PC, we will acquire/test/release it".
This doesn't include "hotfixes" since those aren't published into the WSUS feed from MU, nor does it include "CU's" for Office.
(Almost) Everything in the feed is what we do, as long as it passes our testing protocols. Some things, we skip. (stuff like MSRT and CheckSUR). We also skip stuff that doesn't apply in our locale (Australia), e.g. the EU stuff, and Japanese pop words dictionaries.
    We have Win7, Win8.0, Win8.1. 32bit and 64bit. Office 2007/2010/2013. We have IE8/9/10/11. We have no WinXP.
I don't cover patching for WindowsServer (that's a different team, and they don't use ConfigMgr at all).
It seems to me (and I'm convinced that I'm not alone), that MSFT have accelerated the release cycle of a lot of patches since Win8 was released, largely dropped the concept of ServicePacks, and, there are shorter cycle-times now (which surely must mean there
is less testing being done at MSFT).
So I'm not overly surprised that in the last 6 months there have been quite a few patches released then withdrawn then revised.
    Even those with Security/Severity ratings.
I'm still in favour of releasing non-security updates to our estate, so that's what I do.
But, patching = change, and change=risk. Some risk mitigation is addressed by testing, but we can't test every feature of everything.
Not patching is also a risk. (how long will you put up with the internal noise about those really annoying defects?)

    Hi All,
Currently i am looking for the list of non security patches released by microsoft during years 2007 to 2009.
I am aware that most of these patches are very old and newer version (superseeded) patches have been released by microsoft.
But i have a very specific requirement from our business client to make these patch list available.
Please assist me in getting the list of patches for the mentioend period .(any link or KB containing corresponding list will do)

  • Is Acrobat 8 still being updated for security patches?

    Hi,
Noticed that Acrobat 9 had a new patch released on 7/31/2009 but there was no Acrobat 8 patch.
Does this mean that Acrobat 8 isn't vulnerable to the authplay.dll vulnerability or does that mean that Acrobat 8 is no longer supported?
    Thanks.

  • Slow macbook pro since the airport security patch and last OS update about a week ago..

Hi, my Macbook Pro has slowed down to a crawl on the internet since the airport security patch and OS update about 1 week ago.  I am using Firefox 3.6.17 and have tried all versions up to date (but 3.6.17 is the best).  Same issues with Safari too.  I am using an Airport wireless modem also so should not be any issues with compliance.  Local programs seem to run OK... but the internet is slow enough to grow a beard... Do they have a patch for this issue.  It only started after the updates.  Was blazing fast until that.

How large is your hard drive and how much hard drive space do you have left?
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.

  • Vulnerability/security patch management

I'm looking for the best way to manage SAP security patches and vulnerabilities. We have to do a monthly assessment of the newly released vulnerabilities from SAP and determine if they relate to our systems. I'm having a hard time finding a good place to get a list of recently released notes.
I found https://websmp210.sap-ag.de/security - click on Security Notes, but the list doesn't appear to list everything, and doesn't show what is new or updated from month to month. This creates a lot of manual work looking at each note every month.
Does anyone know of any tools that can help with this. I'm looking for something like what Microsoft does with it's monthly security updates, and ideally a tool like WSUS that can analyze the systems to determine if they require the patch or not.

    Hello Jeff,
Very good question! I have very often thought about this, and how I would like to have the information communicated to me without it being communicated to anyone else...
Specifically regarding the security notes page, I have observed that the notes are added to the list at the top. However, the release date of the note, an update to the version of the note, nor a related note does not bump it to the top again nor influence the specific order.
Certainly, the notes which are listed there are important ones (as indicated by Keerti)... or the principle is... some components are worth keeping an eye on, particularly if you use them or they are new.
Alone the fact that they are published for all OSS users and additionally on that (security) page, should be reason enough to think seriously about implementing it or considering it in your own developments... If you look at some of them, you might also see they are corrections which enable security controls, so regarding your patch management I can also recommend that you differentiate between your "program error patching cycle", and your "correction and activation instruction cycle". Of course, some notes are not intrusive on customers who do not require the correction or are oblivious to it.... so you can patch until the cows come home... it will not help you until you activate the new security feature or change your technique... User types are an example of this.
In some special cases, you need to have found the problem, before you are able to activate a solution for it. Sometimes you have to use the potentially problematic feature (setting up customizing or settings for it, and assigning authorizations to use it...) at which point the system will point things out to you. In other cases, the system will hassle you to change it for many reasons, not only the security reason.
It makes sense to restrict authorizations and settings to only that which you use. That helps a lot. See various threads here on transaction SU24 for some examples from the authorizations aspect of security.
Another tricky aspect is, once someone has a patch installed in their system or a security researcher has found a bug... should they make statements about it in the internet (followed by Smiley's :-)...? Often, a 90 day grace-period for admins is observed.
If you stick around here at SDN and read some of the posts here carefully, then you can also learn a lot in a relatively short space of time, on an ongoing sort of distributed space of time....
Reading the security wiki's and guides are also very helpfull of course.
Risk rating can also be tricky. You might find that if your security analysts are all security or authorization admins, then they might prefer to go for program corrections rather than role changes... or concept changes... Management might even resist changes, for fear of them, their costs, etc.
Regarding analyzing your systems, you might want to consider a "Security Optimization Service" session. You can also download this and maintain your own additional checks. That requires a small additional effort and cost. You can find more information on it by searching "OSS" and service.sap.com/security. In a 1 day or more detailed session if you want, you can cover many risks with a relatively low effort.
I have participated in two of these (we requested them) and it was helpfull. I also provided some feedback to SAP suggesting checks and some risks. My take on it is: If we contribute to improving standard solutions (and reporting bugs), then we all benefit from it "for free" in the standard products.
Last but not least, there is monitoring. You can learn a lot from the various monitoring possibilities (check your legal requirements for security there as well).
Some thoughts from me for your interesting question,
    Julius
