Multi-language iPad app - Folio Builder

Hi!
I am working on a custom b2b iPad app using InDesign's Folio Builder and I need to have it in three languages. I know that during publication process it is possible to choose which languages are supported. But how to make the folio work in those languages?
Thanks!

That would be the easiest way. There's no way to automatically have the
content change.
BTW, someone moved this from InDesign to the DPS forum. Please keep any DPS
related inquiries here in the future.

  • ID no longer sees my iPad via Folio Builder

I've run into an issue where InDesign CS6 no longer sees my iPad via Folio Builder.  It was working perfectly for weeks during my app build.  Was able to conduct unit tests throughout build but for some reason InDesign no longer sees the iPad.  When I connect the iPad to my macbook pro via usb, iTunes detects and recognizes it.  I have all the recent software updates installed.  I even reinstalled Adobe Viewer app.  I make sure Adobe Viewer is running on my iPad and cable is connected.  Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.

  • Multi-language Help in a multi-language web app

    Hello!
I had posted this on the RH HTML forum but removed that and
posted here for a wider audience...
***Please note: this question is not specific to RH but is
applicable now that RH 7 is unicode enabled. If you have experience
that does not relate to RH, please share anyway!
Once I have developed WebHelp (for example) in multiple
languages, how do I connect the help files to the web application
that the help is about? How does the correct language output get
displayed? For example, the application (that the help documents)
changes its interface based on browser language. Can the
appropriate help content be displayed based on browser language?
How is multi-language help generally implemented for an end user?
And, equally important, how does context-sensitive help
    (mapping) work with multiple languages?
I have never been involved in a multi-language development
effort and so I have no experience to relate this to. Any guidance
    will be greatly (and gratefully
    ) appreciated!
    Kathy

That's how our developers do it, but I just want to throw in
one other detail. The help output for each language has to be in a
separate directory. So if you have 5 languages, you'll have 5
directories. It's up to the developers to code the app so it
detects the browser language, then looks in the appropriate help
directory when the user clicks your help link or icon.

  • Taking over app/folio building role

    Hi all,
My firm has a published DPS app that I will be assuming responsibility for. Previously, a colleague uploaded/published (under his email) the folios that I created and he then built the app.
    I'd like to update the folios and the app, using my credentials -- email, .p12's, etc., and I'd like it to be as transparent to the end users as possible. To be clear -- I'd prefer that the app merely appear to the user as an update -- with previously published folios appearing as updates as well. Here's my thinking and please let me know if I've missed something;
Email - may not be possible to update folios using my email and still have them be linked to the app? I may have to continue to use his email creds.
.p12 - I should be able to rebuild/update the app using my .p12/certificates/mobileprovisioning files, etc. and it wont show as a new app as long as I use the iTunes Connect tool to update.
Does this sound about right? Am I forgetting something?
BTW, we are both on the Apple Dev account.
    thanks
    dw

So it is possible to update an existing app and folios, invisibly to the end user, using new credentials. Yes it's posible. When you update the app, existing users will get an update as soon as it's approved by Apple. When the update is downloaded, it'll completely replace the old app with whatever content is published from the new e-mail.
    To do so;
Republish the exisiting folios under the new email, but you must use the same ProductID from the previous published version/email.
On the iOS dev site, create new profiles (dev and dist), under the existing AppID.
    That sound right?
The previously published folios wont show in the updated app, because theyre tied to the old email, through the old app. So I should leave the old folios in place for users that havent upgraded, correct? Correct, the old folios will be replaced with whatever is published from the new e-mail. So, if there's any folio from the old e-mail that you want to present and still be downloadable after the update, those folios needs to be published with the new e-mail too.
Also, if your app is enabled for subscription, the same Shared Secret Key from your iTunes Conntect In-App purchase must be copy-pasted into your new e-mail account using the DPS account administration panel for the subscription to entitle existing subscribers. Making sure the same product ID's for the old folios from the previous e-mail is used. Also the subscription product ID should remain the same.

  • InDesign CS6 folio builder/links question. For iPad app.

Hi there. I am a graphic designer who is very experienced in InDesign using the software for print purposes. I am now branching out with the capacities CS6 has and am learning to design (mainly presentation) apps for the iPad. So, I've designed a portfolio as a multiple page document with both portrait and landscape page orientations. The app would consist of a starter page which would be a load of animation exported as swf, and imported back into InDesign as HTML5, or MP4, or however (I haven't nailed this yet as I'm leaving this till last as this page will serve as a screen saver until swiped). When the viewer swipes page 1 they will enter into the main 'contents' page with a load of thumbnails of clients I have and within those clients a load of case studies. So, I've roughly designed the layout and will need to build but I need to know what I'm limited by.
    Page 1 title page,
page 2 contents (with scrollable bar with links to other pages)
page 3 will be the 1st client and will need approx 6 case studies, which I presume I'll need to make extra pages. And so on.
Anyhow, I digress – the question I ask is that to upload and test on the iPad through content viewer I obviously need to upload the articles as separate pages (incorporating both H & V orientations) but would I make the links from my 'contents' page when the document was a multiple page document (ie in it's original state) or would I apply these links (as buttons I presume rather than hyperlinks) when the articles have been separated and  I'm working with page 01, 02, 03 etc in folio builder?. I know how how to create buttons from thumbnails but I can't work out how to link them to their desired targets (next page/page no/ etc etc) for the record I want to present my work on an iPad as an app, without relying on WIFI or 3G. Last question (phew) Is I have a picture frame with a slideshow in - is it possible for the viewer to click these and open them in full screen mode and flick/navigate through that way? then click via a cross in the top corner back to the screen they were on. Very grateful for any replies – It's a steep learning curve from print! Steve C, London, England

    Steve,
we have many resources, from step-by-step tutorials to videos and more at our DPS Developer Center at http://www.adobe.com/devnet/digitalpublishingsuite.html.
There is also a very cool (and free) app called DPS Tips with many examples on using interactive overlays in DPS: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/digital-publishing-suite-tips/id436199090?mt=8
The iPad Publishing Companion Guide PDF is available on the DPS Dashboard (https://digitalpublishing.acrobat.com). The link to download the Companion Guide is available in the "Additional Resources" section on the Dashboard.
I think that these resources will provide answers to most of your questions.

  • IPad App Approved, How to Build/Submit iPhone Version?

I've got an iPad app approved and working well through iTunes, but now that the feature is available, I want to publish this for iPhone. I've got a few questions about the best process:
FYI—I've already got my new folios created for iPhone resolutions (as renditions with the same Product ID).
    1. Is it best that I build an iPhone and iPad version of the app and submit it to Apple as a Version update (can I even do this with Apple)? Or should I build just an iPhone version and submit that as a separate app?
    2. Why do I not get the iTunes Subscription option when I try to build the app in Viewer Builder (I chose to make an app for both iPhone and iPad). Multi-Issue is selected and grayed out so I can't change it.
    Thanks!

I'm trying to do exactly the same this morning.
When I open Viewer Builder and try to modify the app (v19, multi-issue) you couldn't go back and select ipad and iphone devices with iOS.
I didn't try, but I think you probably have to create a new app with the same ID and settings, new certificates, etc... and submit to Apple this new one as an update.
    Am I right?

  • How to add iPhone folios to iPad app in iTunes?

My ipad app is in the itunes store.
I have now built separate folios for the iphone 3/4 and iphone 5. The folio names are identical to the iPad app. I need to update the app to make these iphone folios available for download in iTunes app store. I have not "published" the iPhone folios in the DPS Folio Producer yet.
Once I publish the iPhone folios in the Folio Producer, are they going to available in the App Store or do I also have to update/create a new multi-folio app with App Builder (selecting iPad and iPhone but using the same original app name/id) for them to be available to iPhone users?
Not quite sure how this all works. I've read this:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/help/create-folio-renditions.html
But still don't quite understand the iTunes part of it, and don't want to do this, wait a week for the app to be approved in iTunes, only to find out the iphone apps aren't there.
    Thanks!

Did you set up the original app as both iPad and iPhone?
If so you just need to publish your iphone folio's and they will appear in your app when viewed on an iPhone.
If you didn't set it up as both in the first place, you will have to start again and do an Apple update
    Hope that helps a bit

  • IPad not showing up as Preview Option in Folio Builder

I'm currently using Adobe DPS (Windows), and trying to preview my folio in an iPad. I've got the Content Viewer app open on the iPad, am signed in, and am also signed in in Folio Builder. And of course, I've got the iPad plugged into the computer. After plugging in the iPad, an arrow appears next to Preview, which I assume would have been the iPad showing up as an option. But on clicking the arrow, I only get the option to open the content viewer on my desktop. Has anyone experienced this issue?

Preview on Device for the iPad/iPhone works only on Mac OS computers, not Windows. If you sign in to the Adobe Content Viewer on the iPad using the same Adobe ID used to sign in to the Folio Builder panel, you can download your folios from the cloud.

  • Problem with "small black line in right margin" with Folio Builder / Adobe Viewer in Ipad. Id CC.

    Hi there,
When I create a Folio Builder and I check my Id project in the Adobe Viewer (It happens in the Ipad App and in the Desktop Viewer), I can see a black line in the right margin (maybe 4 px). And I can't adjust my background (It's an object with a colour) to use the "full resolution available for the app in the ipad", and yes, I'm using rules and I can see that my background object it's 1024 x 768. I have tryed several projects and upgraded the project to the "30 version".
But I'm a new user with ID/DPS. So, is this a reported bug? Or I'm doing sth wrong?
And for me, the most important question, will this problem be solved when I send my project to the applestore and DPS transform my Folio to the Store? Or what I see now it's what I will see?
    Thanks!

Sorry! I have found an answer here in the discussion:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5835960#5835960
So, the problem will be solved in the final app, and it's just the scroll in the Viewer.
    Thanks!

  • I can't see the iPad option in the preview for the overlays or the folio builder.

I can't see the iPad option in the preview for the folio overlays or the folio buider.
I have the content viewer on my iPad and I am logged into it.  This was working before.  Getting a new version of the app does work.
    Please help.

    Hi Bob,
I think there's still something amiss here.
I have the v25 Folio Producer Tools for CS5.5 and the v25 Folio Builder panel. (I'm on 10.6.8 for reference.)
I also have the latest v25 CV from the App Store, and with my iPad Mini plugged in, and the Content Viewer open, the option to side-load still isn't showing.
I thought it might be because I also had a v24 viewer (custom built) installed, but that's not the case. I uninstalled both of them and just downloaded the v25 viewer from the App Store. The result was the same.

  • Third and next folios don't appear in iPad app

I've built a multi-folio app for iPad and it is now published at AppStore.
First 2 folios published for my app appear in the app but third and next folios don't although all of them are displayed as 'Published' in Folio Producer.
Meanwhile all new folios appear in the Anroid app created under the same Adobe ID.

    Tried 1048x768 and 2048x1536
All folios in iPad app are 2048x1536 now
Used the same product ID for all folios

  • Folio Builder without 'creating apps'

Like many designers I have been somewhat frustrated with ID to iPad options for simple presentations. My needs are straight-forward and don't involve monetisation of 'apps' or anything distrubuted via the AppStore. I am simply wanting to produce presenations that get delivered on an iPad.
PDF is almost perfect, but doesn't cut it because of the inability to use video
Keynote doens't offer me the design flexibility (typefaces etc.) and I prefer to stay 100% (as much as possible) in InDesign
Not interested in the complex workflows going via Flash and HTML 5. Doesn't suit my workflow.
Folio builder is obviously what I have been looking for and was the primarily reason I just upgraded to CS5.5. I just cannot get my head around the workflows... I have spent days researching and just hang up after two hours on hold waiting for an Adobe Support tech... never again ;-)
Can I use Folio Builder to produce presentations WITHOUT paying $500 a month? My understanding was that I should be able to still produce content and view it on a local iPad and on the iMac using Content Viewer via an Acrobat.com account (ie. using my Adobe ID). One day I would love to produce 'real Apps' but for now, my clients simply don't have that need or the ability to make it cost effective.
I have been trying for a week now but cannot get Content Viewer on my iMac or iPad to 'work'. By that I mean shared folios are not viewable. I can see shared files in Folio Builder but when I go to 'preview' it 'gets stuck' in Content Viewer. Blue bar just stops and after hours nothing happens. On the iPad I always get a message asking me to 'upgrade the app' but it's the latest version...
I am hoping that these 'digital publishing tools' touted by Adobe are not just for the use of the 1% of designers working for large publishing companies or very large agencies.
Anyway, thanks in advance for your time. Any help MUCH appreciated!

I just posted this a few minutes ago in another thread, but it bears repeatin in this thread, IMHO:
"I have been closely monitoring many threads here at DPS (and DPS Private Beta Forums) in the last few weeks, and yes I am new to this particular product group having only been in it since March.  But I wonder if there is some way that Adobe can be made aware of how serious this issue is with Builder and Viewer and tools "not lining up" with Apple.

  • Folio producer tools update required to use folio builder but content viewer app not available

    Hi,
I have a problem with DPS Folio Producer tools.
We are unable to use Folio Builder to update our iPad presentation to the cloud because we keep getting this message: An update is required to use Folio Builder. Please click here to download Folio Producer Tools.
We have previously done this only to discover that the new version of Folio Producer Tools is incompatible with the Content Viewer and the new Content Viewer app is not yet approved, or available from Apple.
So we have done a rollback to a previous version of the Folio Producer Tools which worked for a few hours, but is now prompting for the update again - but as explained above we cannot download the update until the Content Viewer app is available.
    HELPPPPPPP!!!

    This is the DPS model.
When a company thinks first about monetizing solutions instead of making it an extra option.
You are not free anymore to use the tools you want, you must follow Adobe's decisions to update online apps.
Online apps are everything but good.
You will have to wait until the Viewer gets approved by Apple.
Dear Adobe: do you see how many people come here because they don't understand how your technical model works?

  • InDesign CC - "Create App" option missing from Folio Builder panel

I am using Windows 7, InDesign CC.
While watching a Terry White video I made an app along wth the tutorila All works fine in the Desktop Viewer. When it reaches the point of going to the "Folio Builder" panel mine does not have the "Creat App" option that Terry White has.  Is this because I have windows not
    Mac?

Yes, a Mac is required to create DPS apps.

When i update my folio through the Folio Builder in Indesign 5.5, the Content Viewer in iPad dont update de folio.
